FAQ- Original Archive
The text of this FAQ comes from the original bambodock-and-minis.tumblr.com and was written by Silvia.
What is this blog about?
I am a fond user of Bamboo Dock and the apps that go with it.
When Wacom announced they would discontinue support for the dock, I knew this would also mean it would become impossible to access minis, see their descriptions or download them. So I downloaded the minis I liked the most in order to keep them on my hard drive. Even after support was discontinued, they could still be used as they don’t require server support to run.
Unfortunately my hard drive died suddenly and miserably, and, as it turns out, it is entirely impossible to retreive any data from it.
I tried to find the dock and the minis I used online for download, but, even though the popularity of Bamboo Dock earned it the priviledge to be widely available for download, the minis didn’t share the same fate.
I imagined I can’t be the only person facing such a predicament and decided I could use my resourses and at least try to create an archive of some kind of the minis I succeed to find. This way they’ll be available for other people who want to keep using them like I do.
2. I want to use Bamboo Dock on a Mac computer.
Unfortunately, I am unable to help you. I know nothing of Mac computers and have used Windows all my life. All my resourses are for Windows. I’m sorry.
3. Where are the minis for Bamboo Dock installed?
Each of the Bamboo Dock minis you download additionally is a single .wcm file which can be found very easily:
First, open your C drive (the one where Windows resides);
Open the folder called ProgramData. It is a hidden folder so it’s possible you’re not able to see it. If you can’t see it, that doesn’t mean it doesn’t exist. You need to open Folder Options, select the View tab and change the hidden files and folders setting so that it shows hidden files and folder. Save the changes and you’ll be able to see the ProgramData folder;
Inside the ProgramData folder there is another folder - Wacom;
Inside the Wacom folder you’ll need to open the “default” folder;
Inside the “default” folder you’ll find a folder named Widgets - this is where you’ll find the .wcm files which are your minis.
The minis that are included in the Bamboo Dock installation package - Landmarker, Free the Bird, Mona Lisa and Bamboo Paper can be found in the main installation folder in C:\Program Files\Bamboo Dock\Bamboo Dock\default\widgets.
Note: The MoodTuner app isn’t installed in C:\ProgramData\Wacom\default\widgets and doesn’t consist of a single file. It is instead installed in a separate folder inside the main Bamboo Dock installation folder.
4. How can I move my Bamboo Dock installation, complete with added minis, from one computer to another?
There is a way and it’s not difficult. Read here.
[link to original tutorial post]
5. I have a problem with a mini which doesn’t work.
Unfortunately, that’s what it means that Wacom discontinued support. There is no guarantee that the dock itself or any of its mini apps will work - now or at any given point in the future. Some apps have been dysfunctional for a while - SumoPaint and PaperCakes being the examples I’m aware of.
6. I’m looking for a mini to download here, but I can’t find it.
Currently I have a very small resource I’m working with - mainly minis I was able to pull out from older computers I don’t use much anymore. If you can’t find a mini, it’s because I don’t have the .wcm file for it, hence am unable to upload it and make it available to the public.
7. I have a mini I’m using on my computer and want to provide the file to this tumblr so that it can be made available to other people.
Please, email me at [email protected] and I’ll be in touch with you as soon as humanly possible.
8. Can I use minis without installing Bamboo Dock?
No, minis only work with Bamboo Dock already installed.
9. I have downloaded a mini. How do I add it to my Bamboo Dock?
There is a way and it’s not difficult. Read here.

80% of the time, if I don't know what to make, I'll cut out a paper baked good. 🎂 Since I was a kid, the picture books with illustrations of the characters whisking up batter or rolling out dough were my favorite (Amelia Bedelia 🥧 or ぐりとぐら🐭, anyone?). It looked like magic, and I wanted in! What were you drawn to as a kid that still shows up today?⠀ ⠀ ––⠀ On this one, I experimented with *not* doing what I'd habitually do, in order to shake things up. For ex, I didn't use beveled edges on the icing (what I'd normally do for something soft-edged) and brought in artificial hard lighting (most of my work is soft light from the sun). aka having FUN ☺️⠀ ⠀ #paperplay #paperart #cutpaper #papercake #reinasaurplay⠀ https://www.instagram.com/p/CLHpnwjBqDX/?igshid=18zhtkrsx5yr3

Alan: Katarina, Maria has been crying for hours now, what on earth did you do?
Katarina: Nothing!
Alan: You were the last one with her! She mentioned you said something upsetting!
Katarina: She baked me some cupcakes.
Alan: And then?
Katarina: And then I told her they looked nothing like cupcakes to me.
Alan: That's horrible!
Katarina: They weren't even in cups! They were in paper! Papercakes!
Alan: They are paper cups!
Katarina:...
Katarina: They were delicious...
Alan: You go apologise to that girl right now.

I love the recipes on your blog! Admittadly, I've only tried the Itallion Stallion, so I can't say much, but now it's my go-to for lemon papercakes and my family loves it. Considering that one was spectacular, I'm pumped to try some of your other recipes. You must be an amazing baker.
Hi!!
This was the best message to wake up to, and I am over the moon that you've enjoyed the Italian Stallions! Please let me know if you try any of the others and what you thought!
Baking is a fun hobby and it gives me a different kind of creative outlet where I can play around with flavours and textures and presentation. I have a baking sideblog where I put most pic and recipes nowadays, so feel free to check out @trubaking!

What Is: Bamboo Dock
This post/info was originally written by Silvia. I have made updates where needed for new information or clarity.
Tumblr media
Bamboo Dock is a useful little application which allows you to store shortcuts to applications and also helps you manage your Wacom Bamboo tablet.
Support for Bamboo Dock was discontinued in April 2016 and is no longer available for download on the Wacom website. The same applies to the so-called Minis - the custom applications that were available for download through the Dock. The software is still free, and using, sharing, or hosting the files is not illegal.
The purpose of this Tumblr is to host tutorials of how to install the Bamboo Dock and its Minis as well as to provide useful information on the software as far as my limited abilities and knowledge allow.
If you are using Bamboo Dock and have Minis installed that aren’t available in the linked download(s), I would be grateful if you let me know and possibly provide a copy of the Mini files so that it can be uploaded and made available for download freely.
Below is a list of all Minis available for download and their descriptions.
Default Minis- these come with Bamboo Dock and do not need to be added.
Landmarker: connects to a map server and allows you to draw on top of the map and save the image. (Currently Broken)
Mona Lisa: upload your image or take a photo, and then distort or draw on it. The deafult image to play with is the Mona Lisa.
Bamboo Paper: create digital notebooks with plain, graph, or lined paper. Allows for multiple notebooks to be created and saved.
Free the Bird: draw blocks to control the direction of a bounced ball to hit a birdcage and free the bird. 10 levels.
Input Panel: brings up a keyboard on-screen to type with your tablet.
Additional Minis- these Minis require following the tutorial to add them.
Doodler: For making random notes on your computer or small doodles. It has a variety of writing instruments, is very light and smooth and easy to use.
iNudge: allows you to create a loop of electronic music using a pattern board. It’s very relaxing and doesn’t require any musical knowledge.
DoodleBlast: an ink-type game in which you have to draw lines in order to ensure the rocks will fall into the jar.
MoodTuner: connects you to a random radio station when you choose a color to represent your mood. (Currently Broken)
Mah Jongg: classic mahjong game with 10 different levels to choose from and pleasant background music.
PaperCakes: a logic game where you manipulate a sheet of paper by folding or flipping it. Your goal is to help Doodle - a magical drawing who really wants some cake.
Livebrush: a simple yet functional vector-based drawing application that uses motion-based technology to create a very smooth drawing experience. Not formally a Mini, but included.

Happy almost Valentine's day! Nika and I worked on a Valentine's day card and a cake for Noah. Nika made all the color choices out of what we had, and she wanted "lots of hearts!" but it frustrated her that she couldn't cut the hearts that actually looked like hearts. So I helped her cut them by holding the paper for her. I liked that she wanted to decorate the backside of the card too. #valentinesdaygift #handmadepresent #valentinesdaycards #preschoolactivity #preschooler #4yearsold #artsandcrafts #familytime #familyplaytime #handmadegifts #funtime #cake #papercrafts #papercakes #mokumokufamily (at Los Angeles, California)

3 Ways To Grow Small Brands On A Limited Budget
Surrounded with world-renowned brands such as Amazon, Apple, Procter & Gamble and Netflix, we tend to forget there are over 28 million small businesses in America that create two-thirds of all new jobs. Publications, podcasts, business schools (and myself!) love to analyze what makes these giants successful. Although these case studies are inspirational, it is very hard if not impossible to implement such strategies with little to no marketing budget.
I truly believe that ‘small’ brands and businesses are poised for growth in today’s crowded marketing environment. Below is some (free) advice on how to build a brand when you can’t afford the Super Bowl half-time, nor even a local TV spot. I intend to turn the tables here, by giving small brands some tips that large players could hardly, if ever implement.
1. Offer A Product That Is Noticeably Different And Superior
A local brewery can’t compete with Budweiser’s marketing budget. But its product is locally-made, has a distinctive taste and comes across as authentic. Such craft beer should be marketed to connoisseurs that seek your craftsmanship as well as regular beer drinkers that will indulge with your product from time to time. Remember that you are not trying to dominate the lager segment: these same people likely drink Budweiser also and that’s ok. Your play is to secure a niche of loyal buyers and leverage the uniqueness and quality of your product to command a price premium.
This same strategy can be implemented for any artisan-made products, such as small-batch whisky, scented candles, olive oil, barbeque sauce or marmalade. If your production is very small (for now), take the time to write labels, and thank you cards by hand. Yes, it takes ages and doesn’t scale up, but it costs pennies and handwriting is the hallmark of authenticity.
The smaller the budget, the more you will have to rely on your point of difference. If you don’t have one, here are 50 ideas. Brands with small budgets should focus their resources on promoting their strengths, ideally the key point of difference. Often, being local can be your strongest link versus large competitors. Communicate your local origins, reflect the local culture and reposition the ‘strangers’ as your far away, disconnected rivals.
2. Engage In Customer Intimacy
As Jack Trout once pointed out, being ‘mentally closer’ to what’s important to customers sparks an intimacy that is a core advantage for smaller brands. For example, cross-fit studios, spin-cycling studios and other small gyms charge 2-5 times more than large fitness chains. Yet they often offer a lot less amenities, in much smaller venues. Their success is found in customer intimacy. That is, to understand the goals of each and every member, develop custom fitness programs accordingly and track member’s progress. I worked for a large health club chain early in my career. Keeping track of each member in a club that hosts 2,500, let alone remembering their name is next to impossible. For $40/month at a large chain, you buy access to a well-lit parking lot, plethora of equipment and large changing rooms decked out with saunas and hot tubs. For $150/month at a local gym studio, you pay for personalized training and membership in a community.
Of course customer intimacy is not limited to the fitness industry. Consider these examples: The Papercake Gal (a.k.a Larissa) designs custom wedding stationary with monograms that extend to party favors, postage stamps and even lighting at the reception. Also, Klein Epstein & Partners designs made-to-measure clothes at similar or lower prices than designer suits.
3. Provide Useful And Meaningful Content
Meaningful content is one of the great business equalizers of our times, lifting profiles to that of much larger competitors. While this is widely known, today many small brands have yet to take advantage of the opportunity. Creating content (like this article) is hard work, but it’s cost effective and pays off. People seek and value free, ‘how to’ content to help them deliver on their projects. To be impactful, your content must be informative and express innovative and actionable ideas that matter to your target customer while relating to the essence of your brand. The key to success is persistence: whether you maintain a blog, Instagram feed, LinkedIn profile or Youtube channel, it will take weeks, possibly months before you gain any real traction. Therefore, try to produce content that will be valuable to your audience in the long run. ‘5 tips to lose weight in the New Year’ might be newsworthy today, but becomes pretty irrelevant after January.
If you don’t want to educate your audience, you can simply showcase your craft: Mark’s Bake Shoppe in Staten Island produces outstanding videos and pictures that feature Mark’s artisan-made cakes and pastries. It’s no wonder his Instagram account boasts 1,300+ followers. And if you think 1,300 is small, check the following of your local grocery store (assuming it has any).
Be sure to develop your content with customer intimacy in mind, this is key versus the larger players.
To sum up, most of these strategies require hard work and don’t scale well, but they’ll lay the foundation for a stronger brand on a small budget.
