i watched another kieran culkin movie, continuing my journey to watch everything he's ever been in!

paper man was unlike anything i have ever seen. but i loved it. it was WACK.

10/10 would watch again, 10/10 recommend.

Wonder woman animated Paper man

I saw a movie called Paper Man earlier. It's probably not worth getting this emotional about because I'd hesitate to recommend it to anyone, though I did like it and I probably will rewatch it at some point. I think it's a good movie, but it has a lot of the stereotypical indie movie tropes from the late '00s that probably would turn some people off, and there's other movies in a similar vein to this that I think are better.

What got me is Jeff Daniels' character, Richard Dunn. I found him to be a weirdly relatable character. This isn't to say that I think anyone should emulate him because the entire point is that he's an extremely emotionally immature man, but he's emotionally immature in a lot of the same ways I am.

So I think this movie was a bit of a wake up call for me, though I don't think it necessarily intended to be. It's a good sign that I probably need to do a lot of self reflection and start doing better. I really don't want to be in my late forties and still be like this.

Really, my big regret with this movie is that I didn't see it sooner. If I had have seen this when I was sixteen or seventeen, it probably would have been like cocaine for me--I'd have been watching it on constant repeat. It's been on my to-watch list for a long, long time, too, so it's not like I've only just heard about it now.

But still, thank god I saw this movie now and had the oh shit realisation I did before I actually end up being like that for real. In a few years when I've had the personal growth I clearly need, I should probably send a thank you note to the directors or something. (Or maybe not; I think that might be weird.)
