Love of my life.

The story of a redhead quidditch player falling for a peculiar blonde that didn’t care about fitting in.

Ginny Weasley knew when she got to Hogwarts she was not straight. Even at 11 years old she knew she felt something more for girls than she did for the guys her mother kept trying to set her up with. She was so scared to say anything about being a lesbian that she made her crushes her best friends, because that’s better than not having them at all. But one girl in particular made Ginny’s head spin and that was looney Luna Lovegood. Everyone called her looney because she talked about the creatures no one saw and only theorized about.

Luna Lovegood, an oddity even at Hogwarts, thought she’d find love by her 3rd year, not even a chance. All of the boys were garbage and she was so deep in the closet she was basically bordering on Narnia. She’d rather keep her friends, just that, friends, even though she had her heart set on one ginger in particular. Ginny Weasley was a broody redhead with a love for quidditch, joining the team when she was in her 3rd year after one of the chasers graduated. Luna made it a point to attend every Gryffindor match and cheer her friend on even if the thought of her muscular body made Luna’s head spin out fantasies she had to shove into the depths of her brain.

It was their 7th year, the war was done, Voldemort was dead. And they were not only helping rebuild the school, but trying to finish their education. Harry had run off to Romania with Draco to study dragons, those two were madly in love just like how Ginny wished she could be. For a short time during the war she fancied Harry; they even dated for a short time. But Harry confessed that he and Draco were falling in love and that he was gay. This didn’t bother Ginny as much as it should have but she had her heart in other places besides Harry. She was still scared but she needed to tell her love how she felt before it was too late.

Throughout the year the girls grew closer than they had ever been, they helped rebuild the castle and add charms they wished they had to help future students through their time boarding at Hogwarts. By the end of the year Ginny had sent her parents an owl telling them she was spending the summer at luna’s to help her rebuild her home after her father’s death. She got an owl back on the day they were supposed to leave telling her to bring Luna to the Burrow for the summer and she’d get Arthur to put a team together to rebuild in the fall.

“Cmon Luna, let’s go.” Ginny said ushering Luna out of the school toward the cairrages that were towed by thesterals to the Hogsmeade station.

"Are you sure Gin? I don't want to impose on your family." Luna worried

"it's no problem Luna, really. My mum would have never offered you a place to stay while we help rebuild if she didn't want you there." Ginny told.

"ok Ginny, I trust you." Luna said. She suddenly realized that she would being close proximity to her crush all summer long and even after that because of the rebuilding process.

It was going to be a long summer.

Ginny was excited, nervous, scared, and panicking all at he same time. She was about to host her crush for the summer, in her bedroom. She was going to share a bed with her crush and pray she didn't do anything stupid to ruin their friendship. She knew a relationship wouldn't work with Luna because said blonde was simply uninterested. Luna had her own loves to follow and Ginny wanted so hard to respect that. Little did she know.

A month into her stay at the burrow Luna almost blew her cover when she was watching Ginny work out. Her face had a bright red tint to it that contrasted greatly with her pale skin and Fred noticed Luna's look.

"oi Luna, you alright? Your face is awfully red," he asked approaching the blonde.

"oh it's nothing Fred, but thank you for asking." Luna smiled embarrassed.

As soon as the ginger man was out of sight she sighed frustratedly. She just wanted Ginny to love her the way she loved Ginny. She was tired of this game of chicken she was playing. She found herself walking outside to the workout bench Ginny was perched on without even thinking twice.

"Ginny, can you come in for a bit, I need to talk to you." Luna said trying to avoid looking at Ginny anywhere other than her face. She wore a sports bra that was dark green that accentuated her ample breasts and matching shorts that hugged the curve of her hip and rounded the swell of her bum. Her toned stomach was shiny with sweat and her hair was tied into a messy bun to keep it out of the way from the bar.

"course Luna," Ginny said. Upon entering the house she followed Luna to the bedroom and sat on her bed looking up at the blonde.

"Ginny, I'm tired of playing chicken with myself. I'm sorry if I ruin our friendship by saying this but it needs to be said. I love you, not like a friend, but like a partner," Luna told avoiding Ginny's eyes.

"oh thank God. I was about to die keeping that secret, now come here my little star and give me a kiss." Ginny said reaching for the blonde.

"wait... What?" Luna asked shocked

"I was too scared to say but I've liked you since second year and i made friends with you just so I could have you in my life even if I couldn't truly express my love for you like I wanted to." Ginny said "I'm so glad you said something because it was quite literally eating me up inside spending so much time with you and not saying I love yoy or calling you gushy pet names."

"that's a relief," Luna said, she took her opportunity and grabbed the gingers chin and crashed her lips to Ginny's.

Ginny quickly took over and grabbed Luna by the back of her neck while the blonde moved her hands to grasp Ginny's hips.

When they pulled away there was feeling of relief in the air between the two.

"I'm so fucking glad we did that." Ginny sighed.

"Me too," Luna smiled.

After everything they've been through this has to have been the hardest for both girls to admit.

Upon entering the house after their first kiss and official beginning of their relationship Molly approached the two.

"Mum, before you say anything; Luna's my girlfriend now and I plan on one day if she'll let me putting a ring on her finger. She deserves everything and more and I could not be a happier woman than I am with her by my side." Ginny told

"it's about time you two, I was wondering how long it'd take." Molly smiled at the pair.

"What?" Ginny said confused "you knew? I was so deep in the closet I was in Narnia. how could you know?"

"I'm your mother, I have a sixth sense for this type of thing. I knew you were gonna turn out gay the first time you picked up a broom. It's genetic, I'm bisexual and I played quidditch, Charlie is genderfluid, and he played quidditch. Fred and George are both asexual panromantic they played. Then Ron turned out to be pansexual and he played. Then you started playing quidditch an it was only a matter of time. I'm surprised it took you this long." Molly explained

"it didn't really take me this long to realize, it just took me this long to work up enough gall to admit it to the low of my life," Ginny told wrapping a protective arm around Luna.

"go on and do lesbian things, I have to make dinner for everyone, Harry, Ron, Draco, Hermione, Bill, Charlie, Percy, Fred, and George are coming to spend some time together before the summer bustle." Molly said, basically permitting the two to do as they pleased.

"ok mum," Ginny smiled dragging Luna off to a nearby broom cupboard.

"Ginerva Molly, don't you dare even think about defiling my broom cupboard especially not for your first time. Go to your room and cast some silencing charms, I'll send a patronus when dinner's done," Molly scolded. "Nonsense I swear, your brothers already defiled that broom cupboard enough."

"eww mum!" Ginny grimaced.

"it's the truth though," Molly responded.

Ginny took Luna and hauled her over her shoulder and took off for the stairs.

"don't do anything dumb" Molly called after the two.

Finally a happy ending for the two longing lovers.

i was a harry potter nerd ages 8-14 and dipped during the 2018-19 early jkr transphobe era when she was liking tweets about magdalen berns and maya forstater and then going naurrrr it was a mistake i misclicked!! i distinctly remember explaining to a teacher about it and the teacher going "oh idk im sure it was a mistake shes very feminist and charitable" well whos vindicated now. anyway unfortunately i have a lot of lore stuck in my head from when i wrote wattpad fanfiction at 13.

so canonically the marauders are like a nickname that james potter (harry's dad), sirius black (the dog guy), remus lupin (the werewolf guy), and peter pettigrew (the rat one) called themselves when they were at school. they're the ones who made the marauder's map, that magic map that fred n george give harry.

in fandom, the marauders era refers to basically the entire cast of characters who were around during the marauders school years during the 60s and 70s and 80s. eg snape, lily evans (harry's mum), pandora lovegood (luna's mum), regulus black (sirius' brother), and like all the other random ass order of the phoenix and death eaters who happen to be around at that point (marlene mckinnon, mary macdonald, barty crouch jr, evan rosier, etc etc etc)

its all made up and entirely fanon built on top of fanon. its been around for ages, i remember seeing tumblr incorrect quotes reposted on instagram in 2015 like its been FOREVER but it blew up in 2020 during the dark academia tiktok explosion and now its forever ingrained in shitty internet culture.

you would think in a world where half the characters are nazis and the other half are anti nazis that these characters might like hate each other but that's canon and the fandom has about as good a grasp on optics and narrative as the author does. often its just an AU where voldemort doesnt exist and pure-blood supremacy is just window dressing and treated the same as the way sexism/feminism is treated in fandom

i will say a lot of the current hp fandom do disagree with jkr's views and dont engage with anything she's published recently (like the video games n shit) but like a vast majority still do. and sorry making all the characters pansexual and trans to spite jkr does not actually make a meaningful difference in the world but whatever

primer for this mess but i've had the idea for this chart for a while now and it's so reductive and leaves no room for nuance but its fun to think about as a non-binary writer myself, so yeah! here are my non-cis characters plotted out on a chart by gender alignment and expression. the 0,0 value would mean complete androgyny and genderqueer-ness. further explanations on each character's gender/expression/relationship (vaguely from left to right) to gender found under the cut!

luna lovegood, they/she — non-binary, presents feminine most of the time / pansexual

my personal fuck you to j*r, luna's always had like an iffy relationship with gender. not that they struggled with it much, but theystruggled with how the world often sequesters people into boxes. i feel like she's always known that separate from her sex she's really not interested in gender. people probably always were like "girl" at them and they went "i'm not a girl" but ofc they were "loony lovegood" so they thought they was just being their "quirky self". they don't see themself as a women either, they feel very much detached from the whole gender thing in general, but doesn't have a specific label for it. if people ask, they say they're genderqueer or "generally non-binary". she's aware her feminine style doesn't lend to that very well but she's happy as is, and as long as the people around her respect her gender she's fine.

bryn nguyen, she/they — demigirl-ish, presents feminine with an androgynous edge / bisexual

a child of the internet, she's only recently started to be comfortable in putting herself in the not-exactly-a-woman category. she hates that she can't be as androgynous as she wants to be because she has that very youthful, feminine look to her features but she also often has a lot to deal with so she doesn't think too much on it. she's pretty public with it and her pronouns, but people barely respect it rip.

ripley song-o'brien, they/them/all — transmasc agender, presents mostly androgynous with a preference for masculine clothing / bisexual with a preference for masculinity

my only non-cis character that has physically transitioned! the most obvious part is that they always have top surgery, so in any instance, they have the top surgery scars, etc. on top of that, depending on where they are in the plot/verse they've actively been on testosterone, so their body reflects that re: bottom growth, hair growth, an androgynous edge to their features, horniness lol. they do enjoy that with their soft face and their transition, it lends heavily to the confusion people have over their gender. it's very common for people to go "sir- no, ma'am? um?" and ripley would just nod and be pleased with themself. their relationship to their gender has been a long one that includes religious trauma and a shitty mom which would be too much to get into but the end all be all is that they feel detached from gender overall and prefers to dress masculine to offset the gentleness of their face and personality.

hiro tanaka, he/they — he calls himself a man but feels kind of detached from the label, mostly masculine presenting with androgynous streaks / bisexual

while he's comfortable with the public perceiving him however they want, hiro has always enjoyed being a little experimental with his style. he likes pearls, like nail polish, likes skirts. being in the skate community offered him that freedom to explore that before he got recruited to be apart of the short-lived boy group he was a part of, but since being free from that, they've really started to settle into their own and lean into their androgynous preferences.

lou had to repress their inklings towards femininity and androgyny for a lot of their childhood, so once they got into university and was allowed to be themself, they were quick to understand that they were neither a man or a woman. they're often mistaken for an effeminate man, understandably so. they're still trying to get more comfortable with being more daring with their clothes. while they do prefer more masculine clothing, they do want to explore more into makeup and more feminine pieces of clothing. most intimately, they'd like to get into cute lingerie and the like. the best they usually can do is to accessorize though, with nail polish and necklaces, etc.

zayn ramos, he/they — a man but not really, prefers to be very masculine more than anything / bisexual with a history for preferring men

zayn kind of takes the whole gender thing very casually, so he often just says he's a man so as to not complicate things especially when he's with people he doesn't know very well. still, he does feel kind of like a man but not, but still aligns with the experience of being one?? in everyday life he's quite a masculine person, but also it helps that he has a history with drag and so has been able to explore his femininity in that way. it's strange and he hasn't had the time to properly go through it but he likes using he/they pronouns and he only cares about people close to him using them properly for him so-

luna is the oldest of her class, though she keeps it under wraps. she turned twenty-two during the spring of her third year. this is because she took a hiatus after her first year at hogwarts to return to ireland and live with her father. during this time, she helped keep the quibbler afloat following a drop in sales. she helped breathe fresh life into the magazine and became closer with her father again along the way. now, they call each other every sunday afternoon over tea, and xenophilius visits whenever he can to drop off a copy of the quibbler in person.

[ tw: maternal death ] luna's mother, pandora, died while experimenting with a new spell when luna was only nine years old. luna witnessed her death and briefly became a shell of their curious, lively self. xenophilius was the only person they could open up to or trust during that time because he was the only one who understood what luna was going through. together, they keep pandora's memory alive by talking about her frequently and maintaining her quirks and traditions. luna still sprinkles salt in their doorway to ward off negative energy and keeps buttons in their pocket for good luck.

luna's is an avid thrifter and collector of clothing, accessories, trinkets, and oddities. she is very in tune with the "spirit" of the items she buys, and she'll often dissuade a stranger from buying a particular item that she believes to be cursed. her clothes come from all places and time periods, and she hardly ever incorporates trends into her outfits. she takes pride in her individuality and isn't afraid to draw attention.

luna was originally a magizoology major, but they switched to mythology & magical beasts because it piqued their interest far more. they love exploring mysteries and learning about the forgotten legends of ancient cultures. it's their goal in life to discover a species of magical creature that is widely believed to be extinct or to have never existed.

every quarter, luna helps to publish student art in the hogwarts howl. everything from painting, to photography, to poetry, to collage can be featured. however, it took a whole lot of convincing from her friends to include her own painting in one of the issues. she insisted that she go by a pseudonym, but one of the upperclassmen in art club finally convinced her to publish under her true identity. luna's art is abstract and impressionistic, and she primarily paints figures and still life.

So I decided to write a Harry Potter story based in a post-Deathly Hallows/Albus Potter generation (I'm ignoring the Cursed Child for multiple reasons) and here's a recap of my characters so far:

We've got the bisexual half-blood grandson of Corban Yaxley who was raised by his single muggle father after his mother (who was disowned by her wizarding family for marrying a muggle) died and is essentially Tom Riddle if he were the good guy (with a mixture of Harry and Sirus thrown in for shits and giggles)

His pansexual Muggleborn Hufflepuff girlfriend who's half Irish half Romani and basically a Hufflepuff version of a combo of Luna Lovegood and Hermione Granger

Their best friends Albus Potter and Scorpius Malfoy, who are dating btw.

And their other best friend Rose Granger-Wesley who's a lesbian and dating the non-binary (AFAB) Ravenclaw anarchist child of Blaise Zabini who causes problems on purpose for the lolz

BIOGRAPHY.

tw: parental death, neglect

born in a military town in good ol' appalachia the results of a mistake made between barely adult teens. her mother did her best and while poe never knew her real father, she was given a replacement that never made her wonder who he was. oliver adopted her after he married charlie and a few years later poe's favorite person in the entire world arrived, their little spitfire wilde.

from the moment wilde came along poe said she was theirs and to this day she'd claim the same. there's nothing she wouldn't do for them.

everything was right in the world. school was boring but poe made it through the day to day and grades were always good for the most part. just as they were completing their freshmen year of high school, tragedy struck the iverson home and turned all their lives on its axis. oliver passed from an unknown aneurysm suddenly.

after that, things changed completely. their mother became distant, almost inconsolable and simply stopped making an effort to take care of them anymore. poe took it upon herself to grow up and take over the responsibilities while they waited for their mom to pull herself together again. however, that never seemed to happen.

instead, poe got a job on the side, got the paperwork together to sign their mother up for assistance, made sure wilde was taken care of, and somehow still managed to graduate high school. even fell in love ( though she never thought a soldier is who she'd end up falling for ), though their time together was brief. she kept in touch with him while he was deployed, patiently waiting till he could return home again. besides, they were busy enough without adding dating into the mix.

once upon of time she'd dreamed of going to art school ( drawing and painting being a coping mechanism since she was young, comic style being her favorite ) but that was no longer in the cards. instead, she stayed home and continued working. at that point both wilde and them took care of each other, on top of looking after their mother. they made plans to move away, leave west virginia and start over somewhere new. but poe wouldn't leave until wilde graduated high school. it was important for her but also the legality of it all should something happened with their mom or otherwise.

finally the day came, they pooled together their savings, packed their things and left that stupid little mountain town behind them. eyes set on something different, with an ocean and a beach. poe sent one last letter off to their soldier and promised to update him when they could. however, that update would never come. the iverson siblings didn't make it far at all, somehow they ended up in huntsville and their dreams of leaving west virginia for bigger and better things were shattered. now it's right back to surviving and hoping the future is better. poe won't stop dreaming, even if those dreams are turning into nightmares as time ticks on.
