round 2.7 poll 2
Czwórka (Four-in-hand) by Józef Chełmoński, 1881
propaganda: wyjebutnie mocna ta perspektywa. zaraz cię rozjadą. JEST MOC [this perspective is so fucking powerful. they are gonna run you over. BEHOLD THEIR MIGHT]
Panorama racławicka (Panorama of Racławice) by Wojciech Kossak and Jan Styka (and others), 1894:
propaganda: you HAVE to admire it. it's HUGE. the two famous painters who were in charge of the project fucking hated each other and were constantly bickering over who should be named as the main author. they were chasing each other with buckets of paint around the scaffolding. they were bullying their other collaborators. but the final product is so impressive <3
context: Panorama racławicka is basically a 360° view of the Battle of Racławice, one of the most famous battles of Polish history. It happened during the Kościuszko Uprising and is symbolically viewed as a step forward in the liberation of serfs bc they took an active part in it and were officially recognized for it by the uprising's government and some of them decorated etc etc. You can read about Bartosz Głowacki, a national hero and one of the decorated and liberated serfs here. This painting (which is ENORMOUS. its literally 15 x 114 metres. one hundred and fourteen.) was finished for the 100th anniversary of the battle.

30 Day Writing Challenge: Day 21
REVERSED
Tara's version of Day 18: Letter.
"Hey Montana" by Chase Matthew (if you haven't heard it and want to listen to it or read along with the remixed lyrics)
Tara sat down at the computer and immediately began typing. Her English teacher’s assignment was to have his students dedicate a piece of writing to the person that they’re the most thankful for. It could be anything: a letter, a poem, a song, a script—anything as long as it was creative. And from the moment she heard that she had free reign, she knew exactly what she was going to do. She was going to take a song—one that always reminded her of the person she was the most thankful for—and rewrite the lyrics to fit them.
Her big sister, Samantha Carpenter, whom she hadn’t seen in 3 years. Sam left on her 18th birthday, and she hadn’t heard from her since. Never called. Never wrote. Tara would dial her number, just to hear her voice come through the recorded voicemail on the other end.
She would write everything she wanted to say when that beep hit her ears in this remixed version and hope that, by some miracle, her only sister on this earth would be able to hear it.
—

Round TWO - TWO
Daisy, the corporate advisor who defends mega-corporations from lawsuits for a living, didn't die in the first round against my wishes. Curse them for being the protagonist! How did this happen? Has there inherent distrust of others and and their abrasive personality won the hearts of the public? I can't fucking believe this. However, if they win, there's a chance they'll be pit against their ex-wife in round 3.
Jupiter dispatched her opponent easily by hitting them with her truck! Out of everyone in the first round, she won by the highest margin. Good for her, good for her. She's a sweet woman prone to overworking herself! ... these two contrast heavily.

happy dadwc friday Duchess! How about a prompt for Cullen coping with addiction/recovery 🥺😭💖
❝ All the things that I ran from I now bring as close to me as I can. ❞
happy writing :3
Happy @dadrunkwriting! Thanks for this prompt. Here is some slightly circular narration about Cullen's withdrawal, with a focus on his early nightmares post-lyrium.
CW for torture, sleep deprivation, claustrophobia, psychological torture
Sleep isn’t a problem at first. In fact, for the first week or so, he barely notices a difference. His dreams remain blurred, unfocused. Filtered by the last filter he’d taken in Kirkwall. His last one ever, so he keeps reminding himself, though practiced hands still reach for the vial at his bedside when he wakes blearily with the dawn. Muscle memory. Habit. Conditioning. Sleep isn’t a problem, even after the symptoms start setting in. When his reaching hands shake so hard they can barely grip the glass of water. The water he gulps greedily down, while wishing it were gleaming blue instead of clear. The water he can’t seem to keep down, retching it back up moments later. No, even when his insides are on fire and his whole body is racked with the searing pain, sleep isn’t a problem. It’s not until the worst of the pains and the cravings subside, when the Song is little more than a half-remembered tune in the back of his skull, and his body can actually, truly rest. That is when sleep becomes a daunting, dreadful torture.
Every night, when he lays his head down, he knows what’s coming. He’ll try to stay awake as long as possible, reflexively wincing away from the pain. But inevitably, his eyes will close, and he will open them again in the blood-stained halls of Kinloch Hold. Torchlight flickers over bodies, too many to count.
The light is tinted by the magically manifested curtain of his cell. A slender column holding him captive. Too narrow to do anything but kneel or stand – he can’t even properly sit, let alone lie down. No matter how many hours, days, nights pass, no matter how his feet and legs and back ache. He remains standing until he can bear it no longer, and then he kneels in prayer. His knees are bruised and bleeding. He’s exhausted. More tired than he’s ever been. Somewhere in the back of his mind, he understands he’s still asleep, but the fatigue is just as he remembers it. He doesn’t recall how he ever managed to sleep, if he ever did.
His cell is round, affording him a panorama view of the carnage. Every so often, a new body will race through in an attempt to reach the stairs to Cullen’s right. They’re always cut down before they clear the first handful of steps. Every time, Cullen tries to warn them. Every time, his voice doesn’t penetrate the perimeter of his cell. He hears its echo bounce back and forth over his head, driving him mad with his own voice. Every time, the demon emerges from the shadows it hides in. Razor claws rake across torsos, drawing forth gushing red. The room is infused with the smell of blood. Fresh and stale, the stone is saturated with it. Eventually, Cullen stops smelling it. But as tortured with guilt as he is over his failure to save even a single soul, watching them die is still the lesser evil.
Because when the demon is bored waiting for new victims, it amuses itself with Cullen. It knew his desires almost the instant it captured him. All his training was for naught – Desire is a powerful demon, and it read him like an open book. It cackled, mocking his boyish infatuation. It delighted in taking her form and parading around in front of him in her skin. Calling to him in her voice, whispering in his ear, while standing well out of reach. Sometimes wanting, willing. Others, screaming in pain. Spitting vitriolic hatred at him. But always beyond his reach.
He can beat his hands against the curtain of magic until they bleed, scream until his voice is raw and his throat is like cracked glass. But he will never break through it.
Until he wakes, covered in sweat and hands aching from gripping the sheets so tightly, his throat sore. Surely, he must be screaming on this side of the Veil as well, but if anyone has ever heard it, they keep it to themselves. He will wash his face with cold, clean water, drink from the canteen he keeps full at his bedside, and dress for his day.
And the next night, it will start all over again. He will try to stay awake, and then he will fail. He will try to warn his would-be rescuers, and fail. Try to escape, and fail. No matter how he tries to outrun his failures, they follow him, relentless and tireless.
Until one night, when he looks down at the blood-soaked bodies at his feet… and there is no cell to separate them. He reaches a hand out, tentatively, and meets no resistance. He steps forward, and is not repelled back. A sob escapes him before he can stop it, though he clamps his hand over his mouth to prevent more sounds from betraying him. Yet no demon appears. It’s only him, and the corpses of his colleagues.
He turns to the exit, and he’s halfway across the room before his steps slow. Stop. He turns. His eyes travel up the staircase, stopping at the door at their peak. There’s no way out of that room, he knows. He’s conducted Harrowings and Rites of Tranquility from inside that room. There is no escape but the way you’ve come.
There is no escape.
Step by step, his feet carry him to the base of the stairs. He watches himself climb them, as if observing from the outside. He screams at himself, pounding against the rounded wall of his cell, tries to tell him no. Turn around, run away. Escape. But it’s no use.
He watches the demon emerge from the shadows, claws impossibly long and razor sharp. No matter how he screams and pounds and begs. There is nothing he can do to stop what’s about to come. Cullen watches his hand come to rest on the doorknob. Watches it turn. Watches the demon’s arm raise, and strike. He feels the burn of its claws in his flesh.
And then he wakes up.
He flexes his fingers, releases their death grip on the sheets. Rises with a struggle from the low cot given to him when he’d arrived at the base of the Temple of Sacred Ashes. Drinks long and greedy from the canteen. Splashes his face with cold water. And pushes aside the flaps of his tent to start another day.
Tonight, he’ll do it all again.

The best surf spots in the world
It is believed that the inhabitants of Hawaii were the first to ride the waves using a special board back in the 4th century AD. Nowadays, surfing has turned from an ordinary sport into a real philosophy. It allows you to feel unity with the vast ocean, believe in yourself and get out of your comfort zone. The best places for surfing are extremely popular - there are ratings of countries and beaches around the world that every rider in love with the sea should visit. After all, a dizzying flight on the crest of a wave is one of the few ways to experience an incomparable feeling of freedom.
Ocean Beach, San Francisco, USA
Best time to visit: March-August The West Coast of the United States is famous for its excellent waves, and some beaches, such as Ocean Beach, are ranked among the best surf spots in the world. San Francisco is surrounded by water, and athletes have plenty to choose from. Constant waves and a huge variety of breaks allow everyone to ride, regardless of their level. And in this list, Ocean Beach definitely takes an honorable first place in extreme sports and beauty. Here, giant walls and pipes force you to strain all your strength to stay on the board, and the picturesque panorama of the ocean expanses with the majestic Golden Gate Bridge rising above the water makes you freeze with delight in the pauses between waves.
Jeffreys Bay, South Africa
Best time to visit: May-August J-Bay's epic waves have long been a legend among professional surfers. There are very few places in the world where you can find a pipeline like this, which is a real wall of water reaching 2-3 meters in height. The season here lasts almost all year round, and the epic marine views combined with a pleasant climate and friendly atmosphere make Jeffreys Bay and its famous Supertubes one of the best surf spots in the world.
Popoyo, Nicaragua
Best time to visit: December-April Popoyo is a very popular surfing spot among professionals. A beginner just starting to master the board will have a hard time - hurricane winds on the coast create powerful waves, and the incredibly strong Pacific current can pose a threat to life. However, Popoyo has a relatively calm bay suitable for beginners. Here you can not only learn the basics of surfing, but also ride a horse along uncrowded beaches, relax in a cafe on the shore, admiring the incredibly beautiful ocean landscape against the backdrop of harsh rocks.
Mentawai Islands, Indonesia
Best time to visit: April-October The Mentawai archipelago has 70 islands, and many of them have great surfing spots. Legendary surf breaks for masters can be found on Pagi, Siparo and Siberut - such famous spots as Bankvaults and Macaronis. Beginners will enjoy the calm beaches on the island of Sumbawa, where there are practically no big waves. The Mentawai Islands are not only one of the best surf spots in the world, but also vibrant resorts that rival the beauty of picturesque Bali or vibrant Sumatra. Surfers, lovers of diving, snorkeling and relaxing holidays among enchanting tropical nature come here.
Nazare, Portugal
Best time to visit: October-March The giant waves of Nazaré became legendary after Hawaiian rider Garrett McNamara managed to overcome a wave here that was almost 24 meters high. As a result, Praia do Norte beach has become considered one of the best surfing spots in the world - now the WSL Big Wave Contest is held here every year. Riding in Nazar is recommended only for experienced athletes. And if in the summer even beginners can test their skills, in the winter only real professionals can cope with the biggest waves on the planet.
Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia (Gold Coast, Queensland, Australia)
Best time to visit: December-February The magnificent beaches of the Gold Coast became famous back in the 60s of the last century. The coast's unique waves, which create ideal surfing tubes and walls, began to attract athletes and enthusiasts from all over the world here after the release of the film "Eternal Summer", which became a cult favorite in their community. Most surfers visiting the Gold Coast choose to stay in the Gold Coast, which has become one of Australia's premier destinations due to its excellent conditions for a variety of water sports. The total length of the Gold Coast is about 70 km. There are a lot of difficult areas here, so loved by professionals, and beginners can easily find beaches with relatively small waves. You can ride on the Gold Coast all year round, but experienced athletes prefer to come here during the winter months, when the ocean is especially choppy.
Skeleton Bay, Namibia
Best time to visit: December-April The cold and windy coast of Skeleton Bay is a real test for professionals. Powerful surf that does not allow you to calmly enter the water, sharp gusts of wind and huge waves will bring a lot of joy to experienced surfers who love to fight the elements and achieve victory at any cost. In addition, riding here is quite dangerous due to the sharks that regularly visit the bay. But despite all the difficulties, Skeleton Bay is popular among professionals who love adrenaline. The wave length in the bay can reach 2 km - this place is considered the longest left-hand surf break in the world. An experienced rider is able to ride 6 pipes in a row on one such wave thanks to the incredibly strong current. Due to difficult weather conditions, skiing in Skeleton Bay requires a wetsuit and, from May to November, boots.
Oahu, Hawaii
Best time to visit: November-February The north coast of Oahu is a paradise for surfers who come to Hawaii in search of thrills. It is not surprising that this sport originated here - the huge waves are simply ideal for riding a board. On the list of the best beaches in the world for surfing, Banzai Pipeline and Backdoor Surf are at the top positions. Not everyone takes the risk of skiing here - since ancient times, only true masters have dared to conquer the pipes and walls of the Banzai Pipeline. And now, despite sophisticated technology and modern equipment, the exceptionally heavy ten-meter backdoors of Banzai Pipeline make even world surfing champions nervous. Of the 36 unique surf breaks on Oahu's North Shore, dubbed the "Seven Mile Wonder", this stretch definitely deserves the title of the best surf spot in the world. With plenty of reef flats, the North Coast provides some more great surfing opportunities, including Turtle Bay and Waimea Bay, known for their powerful waves. For beginners, the best option would be to head to the beaches of Waikiki. Unlike most surf breaks on Oahu's North Shore, the ocean here is much calmer.
Byron Bay, New South Wales, Australia
Best time to visit: June-August Cozy Byron Bay is about 70 kilometers of clean sand and powerful waves that do not subside for 12 months. The beaches of the bay are perfect for surfers of any level - both professionals and those who are just starting to learn the basics come here. Beginners should choose beaches patrolled by lifeguards for skiing - strong waves and emerging currents can pose a danger. In addition, you must pay attention to notifications from the coast service - blue jellyfish and great white sharks often swim into the bay. Despite the presence of protective nets, they can reach the coastline.
Teahupoo, Tahiti
Best time to visit: November-April Tahiti is known for its resorts, but the southern coast of the island is most popular among athletes. Teahupu is one of the best places in the world for surfing, despite the fact that the coastline is practically undeveloped and its wild beaches can only be reached by boat. If you don't want to live in a tent, you can stay at one of the surf campsites - for example, Tahiti Beachcomber or Papara Beach Campsite. Giant waves up to 30 meters high are ideal for surfing. Beginners will have a hard time here due to the shallow water - the walls often break, which means staying on the climb and reaching the ridge will be a very difficult task. Despite this, Teahupoo is popular with beginners in June - August, when the winds die down and the waves become smaller, providing an opportunity to learn basic surfing skills.
Uluwatu, Bali, Indonesia
Best time to visit: April-October Uluwatu beaches are considered the best surfing spot in Bali, but they are not suitable for beginners. Not very large, but powerful and complex waves in this region force even experienced surfers to strain their strength. In addition, there is an incredibly strong current here, which makes skiing much more difficult. But if you feel confident on the board, you should definitely come here to try your hand at it. The festive and incredibly friendly atmosphere of Uluwatu, combined with extreme challenges on the waves, will definitely be remembered for a long time.
Florianopolis, Brazil
Best time to visit: December-April Florianópolis has more than 40 beaches, and their total length is approximately 1,500 km. The best surf spots are located around the island's capital, Santa Catarina. Due to the unique climatic conditions, there are waves all year round, and thanks to the vibrant tropical beauty and wide variety of surf breaks, the coast can easily lay claim to the title of one of the best surfing spots in the world. Beginner athletes usually ride on the beach of Barra da Lagoa. There are no strong waves that make orientation difficult, and you can choose between right and left breaks. For professionals, the beaches of Praia Mole and Praia da Joaquina are more suitable, where the waves are higher and less predictable due to frequent wind changes.
Buxton, North Carolina, USA
Best time to visit: December-February, partly May The best surfing beach on the Atlantic Coast of the United States is named after the Old Lighthouse Beach lighthouse overlooking Cape Hatteras. This is an open point break with long and fairly powerful waves that do not require special qualifications. It does not work very often - those who want to ride the wave will have to wait for the westerly wind. The water here is quite cool, so a wetsuit will be required.
Surin Beach, Phuket, Thailand
Best time to visit: May-October Despite the fact that Thailand is not on the list of the best places for surfing, there are also opportunities for those who like to ride the crest of a wave. One of the most suitable places for this is Surin Beach on the island of Phuket. The cozy and very beautiful coastline, almost 1.5 km long, is perfect for beginners. The waves here are small, but quite stable, although there are days of complete calm. It’s best to ride in the evening, when the heat subsides, the wind rises, and the colorful sunset enhances the feeling of unity with nature.
Black's Beach, San Diego, California, USA
Best time to visit: all year round Black's Beach is the most extreme surf spot in California. There is nothing to do here not only for beginners, but also for those who have begun to feel more or less confident on the board. The best surfers in San Diego gather at Black's Beach, and athletes from all over the state come here on weekends. The sharp wind and fast currents create high and very difficult waves that are difficult for even a professional to ride. Another advantage of the beach is the almost complete absence of people, with the exception of small groups of nudists.
Bundoran, Ireland
Best time to visit: December-February Bundoran has a strong claim to being the best surf spot in Europe. Huge waves here can reach heights of 50 m, although in many areas they are much smaller. Such diversity makes this natural corner of Ireland attractive to both professionals and beginners. At Bundoran, everyone can choose a spot that suits their skills - from rough elements to flat, gentle waves. The main thing is to have a warm wetsuit with you, as the water in this region is very cold even in the hot summer months, not to mention the winter when surfers flock here.
Killer Point, Taghazout, Morocco
Best time to visit: November-March The Killer Point surf spot gets its scary name from the killer whales that often swim into the region. Nevertheless, skiing here is still quite dangerous - sharks are found in this area, and long and powerful waves near the shore crash against the rocks. Beginners should go to other spots - there are quite a lot of them nearby, but professionals will definitely like the adrenaline-filled Killer Point. The waves here reach 1.5-3 meters, and the strong and changeable current will add to the pleasure. It is necessary to take into account that despite the hot weather, it is worth having a wetsuit with you - it will protect against sunburn and rather cool, especially in season, water.
Hanalei Bay, Kauai, Hawaii
Best time to visit: all year round Horseshoe-shaped Hanalei Bay has the kind of tropical beauty that can only be found in Hawaii. Wild rocks, a stormy ocean sparkling in the sun and waterfalls flowing among exotic greenery make an indelible impression. Additionally, Hanalei Bay is known for its consistently consistent top tube waves. The bay is large enough to offer areas of varying difficulty. There is a place for both professionals and beginners - which is why Hanalei Bay can easily be called one of the best places in the world for surfing.
Pedra Branca Ericeira, Portugal
Best time to visit: October-May Pedra Branca Ericeira Beach is located about 50 km from Lisbon, next to a small fishing village turned surf town. Now this zone has the status of a nature reserve - the only one of its kind in Europe and the second in the world. Its main difference from most European surf points is several powerful reef breaks, which create huge waves. Only professionals are recommended to surf here - it was in Pedra Branca Ericeira that the first Portuguese surfing championship was held.
Siargao Island, Philippines

Just finished playing round 5 (which has been going on since July thanks to all my breaks, oof) and there’s another potential 3-bolt pairing in Panorama that I did not see coming. Not sure how to feel about this one yet, but my brain so far has gone from “What. No way. Absolutely not” to “Hmmm….. this might have possibilities.”
Now I just need to catch up on posting—I’m currently about two households behind, but photos are edited and it’s just a matter of writing up the posts. Wooo, progress!

They are literally smart contracts that allow traders to trade tokens and coins, even when there are no buyers and sellers. Before we proceed, we would counsel you read our article on smart contracts here, as it is the technology that allows the liquidity pools to exist. As a result, liquidity providers (LPs) earn passive income by way of multiple income streams by supplying their tokens on completely different DeFi protocols.

Although DeFi shares similarities with conventional financial companies, corresponding to lending and borrowing, it relies on smart contracts, which are self-executing codes. These protocols enable users to lock their digital assets into a liquidity pool, which other members can entry. Liquidity swimming pools play an important function in creating a ‘liquid’ DeFi system. It allows crypto traders and buyers to access funds within the DeFi markets.

Additionally, when you promote your crypto asset, you may be liable to pay 30% Capital Gains Tax. The authorities’s official stance on cryptocurrencies and other VDAs was clarified within the 2022 Budget. In layman’s terms, cryptocurrencies are digital currencies designed to buy items and companies, much like other currencies. However, they have largely been controversial due to their decentralised nature, which means their operation with none intermediary like banks, financial institutions, or central authorities.
A buyer who owes a payment to the seller should subtract the TDS amount and forward it to the central government. Starting from July 01, 2022, the customer will be responsible for deducting TDS on the 1% fee while making cost to the seller for the switch of Crypto/NFT. If the transaction takes place on an change, then the trade may deduct the TDS and pay the steadiness to the seller.
Mining refers to the process of verifying and recording transactions on a blockchain network utilizing highly effective computer systems or specialised mining hardware. In a blockchain community, transactions are verified by a gaggle of nodes or computer systems, known as miners, who compete to solve complicated mathematical puzzles. The first miner to resolve the puzzle is rewarded with a certain quantity of cryptocurrency, which varies depending on the network. Crypto trades happen directly between consumer wallets on a decentralized change. These transactions are also called peer-to-peer (P2P) transactions.
Lending pools allow lenders to deposit crypto to earn interest funds and the respective protocol token so borrowers can borrow. Other major crypto tokens similar to Solana (7%), Toncoin (12.1%), Dogecoin (3.4%), Shiba Inu (2.6%), Avalanche (3.7%), Chainlink (2%), and NEAR Protocol (4.4%) additionally surged. Major cryptocurrencies saw modest positive aspects on Wednesday, with Bitcoin, Solana, and Cardano leading the rise. Experts count on additional positive aspects within the crypto market because of the world shift towards financial easing. Bitcoin lately surged to a new all-time high of $75,000, fueled by the US election results. Historically, US elections have acted as catalysts for Bitcoin’s value surge. Liquidity swimming pools provide a gradual supply of consumers and sellers, making certain that trading is executed quickly and effectively. They are an essential a half of the DeFi ecosystem as they facilitate peer-to-peer trading on DEXs. Liquidity was an enormous problem for decentralized exchanges earlier than AMMs. The number of buyers and sellers was small in DEXs as it was a model new technology. Automated market makers fixed this downside of limited liquidity by creating liquidity swimming pools. Only high-net-worth individuals or corporations might turn into liquidity providers for conventional market makers.
Liquidity is the basic foundation of the Decentralized Finance area. Liquidity means how you can quickly promote or purchase property with out causing huge waves in the trade or the tokens’ worth. For example, in a traditional market, liquidity refers to the quality of belongings that may be transformed easily into money. If that occurs, you’ll lose entry to your LP tokens, and the loss can be momentary or everlasting. When you stake them in a DeFi protocol, you’re placing your belief within the good contracts. It’s an essential idea in cryptocurrency and important for Decentralized Exchanges (DEXs).
ETH makes use of a Proof of Stake (PoS) consensus mechanism that requires staking tokens to create a model new chain and stakers get rewarded with new ETH tokens. The staked tokens cannot be used anyplace else until the model new block is added and validated. Transferring ownership is another way you’ll find a way to earn income by way of your LP tokens.
These swimming pools are essential to the decentralised finance (DeFi) ecosystem. While the sellers and consumers of an asset present liquidity in traditional finance, DeFi is decided by liquidity swimming pools to function. The funds supplied to the pool by LPs enable liquidity for dealing with transactions. Hence, not like conventional markets, users transact in opposition to the liquidity in a sensible contract rather than with other users. Cryptocurrency markets have been trading decrease in Thursday’s trade, dragged by Bitcoin, Solana, and Dogecoin. Meanwhile, the worldwide cryptocurrency market cap declined 0.7% to round $2.48 trillion in the last 24 hours.
The majority of LP tokens could be transferred to and from the Defi system via your wallet. However, this isn’t always the case, so verify with the DEX platform. Sometimes, transferring the LP tokens with out prior knowledge of the process can strip you of the owner status completely. Once you deposit pairs of tokens in a liquidity pool, you’ll receive LPs because the “Receipt” for this transaction. These LPs define the share you hold in the liquidity swimming pools, which you’ll be able to declare anytime.

round 1.7 poll 4
Pochodnie Nerona (Nero's torches) by Henryk Siemiradzki, 1876:
propaganda: Siemiradzki..... you and your ancient roman fascination....... ilu. the small details and the decorations are so intricate and well done. the light is incredible. there is a TIGER. just lovely

city tour,
city tour,
A city tour is an unforgettable way to dive deep into the essence of a bustling metropolis. Whether you're a local or a traveler, a guided exploration through the streets, landmarks, and hidden gems offers a fresh perspective on the city’s culture, history, and lifestyle. This article will guide you through the highlights of a perfect city tour, providing insights on what to expect and how to make the most out of your urban adventure.
1. Historical Landmarks and Monuments
A well-rounded city tour will always take you to the heart of the city’s historical sites. These landmarks tell the story of a city’s past, from ancient civilizations to modern innovations. From centuries-old castles and cathedrals to contemporary museums, historical attractions are the backbone of any city’s identity. Key examples might include iconic structures such as the Eiffel Tower in Paris, the Colosseum in Rome, or the Statue of Liberty in New York. Your guide will share fascinating tales and facts that bring these places to life, offering a connection to the city's history and evolution.
2. Cultural Hotspots
Every city has its own distinct culture, and a tour provides a chance to immerse yourself in it. Local theaters, galleries, and music venues showcase the vibrant arts scene, while cultural districts or neighborhoods can reveal the city's diverse ethnic influences. Whether it’s Chinatown in San Francisco, the Latin Quarter in Paris, or the vibrant street art of Berlin, a city tour will guide you through the districts that reflect the cultural fabric of the city. Don’t forget to visit local markets or food festivals, where you can sample regional delicacies and learn about the local culinary heritage.
3. Architectural Wonders
A city's architecture can speak volumes about its design philosophy and aesthetic appeal. From stunning skyscrapers to charming old-town squares, the architectural landscape of a city is a treat for the eyes. On a city tour, you might get to marvel at innovative modern structures like the Burj Khalifa in Dubai or the Sydney Opera House, or wander through ancient neighborhoods where the architectural style has remained unchanged for centuries. These architectural gems are not just buildings; they are works of art that reveal the city’s evolution.
4. Hidden Gems and Local Secrets
What truly sets a great city tour apart is the ability to reveal the hidden gems, those off-the-beaten-path spots that locals cherish but might not be in guidebooks. These can range from quaint cafes nestled in quiet alleys to secret gardens tucked away in city parks. Whether it’s a local art gallery, a hidden courtyard, or a charming street market, these places often provide a more intimate and authentic experience of the city. Your tour guide will know where to find these treasures, offering you a unique insider’s perspective.
5. Scenic Views and Outdoor Spaces
Most cities are filled with green spaces and scenic views that provide a peaceful contrast to the urban hustle. Parks, gardens, riversides, and hilltop viewpoints offer breathtaking panoramas of the cityscape. A city tour will often include a stop at a famous viewpoint, where you can take in a bird's-eye view of the city. The journey may also take you through well-maintained parks where you can relax, breathe fresh air, and enjoy nature in the midst of the urban jungle.
6. Local Experiences and Interactions
What truly brings a city to life is the people who inhabit it. City tours often emphasize local interactions, giving you the chance to engage with residents, artisans, or small business owners. A walking tour through neighborhoods might lead you to chat with locals in cafes, visit artisan workshops, or even join in on a community event. These interactions create an authentic and enriching experience, far beyond the usual tourist attractions.
7. Tour Types: Walking, Biking, and More
There are various ways to experience a city tour, depending on your preferences. Walking tours are ideal for small groups, allowing you to get up close to the attractions and immerse yourself in the atmosphere. If you prefer a faster pace, consider a biking tour, which lets you cover more ground while still having a hands-on experience of the city. For a more relaxed experience, hop-on-hop-off bus tours offer flexibility and comfort, allowing you to explore at your own pace. Boat tours can be another option if your city is near water, offering views from the river or coastline.
8. The Perfect Time for a City Tour
City tours are enjoyable year-round, though the timing can enhance your experience. Spring and autumn offer pleasant weather, ideal for walking tours, while summer may be perfect for exploring outdoor spaces and riverside attractions. Consider a nighttime tour if you want to see the city lit up, or a seasonal tour during holidays for festive markets, parades, and special events.
9. Tips for a Great City Tour Experience
Wear comfortable shoes: Many city tours involve a fair amount of walking, so make sure to wear shoes that are comfortable and suitable for various terrains.
Bring a camera: You'll want to capture all the sights and experiences that come your way.
Stay hydrated: Carry water with you to stay refreshed throughout the tour.
Ask questions: Tour guides are often passionate about their city and will love to share insider knowledge.
Plan ahead: Check the weather forecast and prepare accordingly to ensure a comfortable experience.
Conclusion
A city tour offers more than just a sightseeing experience; it is an opportunity to connect with a city on a deeper level. Whether you're interested in history, culture, architecture, or hidden gems, a guided city tour brings you closer to the heart and soul of a destination. So, next time you’re in a new city, embark on a tour that will enrich your travel experience and leave you with unforgettable memories.

Notes: Session #5
Summary: Aaria and Zia interrogate a barmaid, Fred and Aurora get pastries and cake, and Viliam eats pancakes.
Aaria, Zia, and Niko head towards the Perlen Tavern. Along the way, Niko splits off to go speak to people in the streets, to hear if anyone's heard of Wish or Rogan Underbite.
At the tavern, Aaria and Zia speak to Sylvia, a human barmaid in her early twenties—blonde bangs, large ear rings, and (in Aaria's eyes) an attractive figure. Sylvia tells them Wish was there a week ago, with three others: a dwarf, a wealthy lady, and a bland guy whose face she doesn't recall. The party stayed overnight in rooms rented by one Rogan Underbite, though the dwarf went out in the evening and didn't return until the morning.
Aaria and Zia get each their glass of a fruity beer called lumiere, made by the local brewery, and get a table. Other patrons include a man day-drinking in the corner, and two people either having a late breakfast or an early lunch.
Fred and Aurora make their way back from the mayor's, bickering like an old married couple. They stop at Böhler Bakery, where Fred treats them to a chocolate croissant (for Aurora) and two slices of raspberry and white chocolate cake (for himself). They make for the tavern, where Aurora reveals she's somewhat uncomfortable with the atmosphere taverns normally garner. Fred reassures her, and they join Aaria and Zia.
Zia takes the stage to play gentle lunch music.
After speaking to Dr Schmidt, Viliam heads to Granny Peacock's Pancakes—a stone-built square tower, two floors, with children's paintings on the lower stones and a little flowery herbal garden surrounding it. Inside, a Alena the firbolg greets Viliam. She has rich blue fur and thick green hair with golden tips. She tells Viliam to take a seat upstairs, and that she'll come take his order shortly.
Upstairs, Viliam finds a panorama view of Waldstad. Most of the tables are small, made for two, with candles and fresh flowers. He sits by the north-facing window and lights the candle on his table. Alena comes up and takes his order. While he waits, he observes the Walden, the forest beyond Waldstad, and sees birds flying across the tree tops.
A couple, two young men, arrive and sit by one of the other tables. (One of them is the young man who served Fred and Aurora at the Bakery.) Alena comes up with a plate of three fluffy pancakes arranged around a blue sugar flower of a design Viliam has never encountered. Viliam asks about the flower, and Alena reveals that Granny Peacock calls it a 'Dream on a Plate'. Viliam asks how the firbolgs came to be in Waldstad. Alena says they travelled there some 2–3 years ago, from some village to the north, and settled here. Apparently the tower used to be a kindergarten.
Viliam eats the pancakes, then heads downstairs to pay. Another firbolg—Gloria—also young, though shorter and rounder, takes the payment. In the corner, Viliam sees an elderly firbolg with greying fur, grey streaks in her hair, and little round spectacles perched on her nose, hunched over a table and a lamp making detailed sugary works. He compliments the flower he had, and Gloria laughs and says Granny Peacock learned the art from her grandfather, but that she's not taught either of her grandchildren yet.
Viliam then heads towards the tavern, where he finds Alvin already warming his seat at Aaria, Zia, Fred, and Aurora's table.
