Fire Burn And Cauldron Bubble—Stiles is a Potion prodigy who gets one too many detentions after his latest concoction causes his cauldron to explode, so he's set with the task of brewing Wolfsbane potion for the new assistant groundskeeper, Derek Hale.  All the while, he's been practicing brewing a love potion, which leads him to realize he's in love with Derek—who is older and unattainable, considering that Stiles is seventeen and still in Year Seven.  

I love how Derek slowly opens up to Stiles and lets him under his guard, I love the dynamics between Derek and his sister, I love how awkward—and thus cute—conversations tend to be between Derek and Stiles when one of them is nervous and I love how nervous Stiles is on his first date with Derek, I love Stiles' sarcasm and wit....not to mention all the pining he does for the assistant groundskeeper.  Also, I'm glad they both agree to wait until Stiles is of age and graduated Hogwarts before they embark on a relationship—shows restraint and maturity.

We're All Freaks Here by pandacowhipster

Pairing: Sterek

Why: This fic was so much fun. This is a Hellboy AU, and despite significant changes to his appearance and circumstances, Stiles’ characterization is consistent: still saying awkward things, making pop culture references, and of course providing a generous amount of sarcasm. I also love Derek, who starts out quiet and scowly, but gradually gets more comfortable with the team, and Stiles in particular. (And check out the art for this fic!)

Why: I said oh, Derek multiple times while reading this fic, because it’s the perfect portrayal of a Derek who’s never actually had to make the first move before. Why: I love fics with a touch-starved character, and I also love fics that feature explicit consent. This fic has both of those in spades, and it’s so good. It’s wonderful to see Stiles and Derek looking out for each other, and eventually get comfortable and snuggly with each other. (Which is one of my favorite things!) It’s an exploration of Derek’s issues (and some of Stiles’) without being too heavy, but rather stays light and sweet.
