RWCH Readathon 2024: Day 6
Undercover Princess - Chapter 15
Im a day late im sorry. Lets do this
I love that thunderstorms surround Ellie, and shes been described in relation to them, so its only fitting that Jamie's (spoiler alert) arrival is preceded by a storm too.
Let down your hair gives us another fairytale reference in Rapunzel. But this time it refers to Ellie, not Lottie, which I've always found facinating
Storms do make people act strange. Thats just from experience working with kids. They always get hyper or more disruptive and its really strange. The ex psych student in me wants to know more
I love that binah just randomly appears for exposition and its pampshaded just enough that its honestly kind of believable as just a quirk of her character
"Some sort of prince charming" ... WELL
But really, I love how this chapter shows us how susceptible Lottie is to the idea of a Prince Charming, foreshadowing in a way her reaction to Edmund, and why shes so naive to him.
I also really like that Ellie is notably more anxious while trying to pretend shes not, over stating that oh this will absolutely not impact us
As if shes trying to convince herself that it isn't Jamie
This chapter so brilliantly shoes what the energy is like when theres a new kid at school and everyone is excited, and Ellies apprehension indicates that it just might be a little important...

love the character within these images- gives a level of context to the audience to perceive the object as part of this oriental/ floral layout- scenery matters
the packaging in itself reflects the surroundings, having lots of playfulness- creating intriguing, story-telling narratives.
"I'm usually approached to create product-driven imagery where the object is placed into a highly imaginative environment and is manipulated in 3D,"
"It's something I've long been fascinated by, and I use these objects as a tool for storytelling, whether that's around mundane pantry staples or by using ultra-luxury objects in a surreal or ironic way. I love introducing humour and a hint of subversion into my work."

the glow replicates the warm, comforting feeling elicited from a fresh loaf of bread
captures the essence and taste in a tactical way
"Bread has a completely different 'expression' depending on various factors such as temperature, humidity, yeast condition, and the baker. As I learned more about bread, I became more and more fascinated with it."
"It perfectly described the 'charm of bread' that I was looking for."

embracing the Mediterranean essence of 'La Dolce Vita/The Good Life' and the stories surrounding producers, dedication to quality and culinary adventures while aiming to expand its reach to a broader audience and attract a younger demographic.

restaurant project replicates/ re-creates Chinese 90's nostalgia, literary movements, and history.
“I was interested in subverting these traditional elements and reimagining them in a modern context,” says Jingqi. “I decided to take on a more inquisitive approach to understand how certain Chinese cultural traditions shaped the visual landscape of both the past and present.”
whimsical in design, every colour and design is representative of something ti do with Chinese culture and heritage
brilliant use of imagining these attributes in action, designing sets and rooms- every last detail has been considered.
Through looking at these kinds of projects, I am really inspired by the different ways they have been able to create narrative, metaphorical meaning, and identity through their designs. Each design choice is playful and intriguing, which really aligns with the vision i had for my first idea.

This art-board I created made me see all of the different things i could create when presenting this concept.

LISTEN so there's this company called pampshade that turns real actual bread into lamps and i'm OBSESSED with the idea of xiao zhan finding out about them?? he would love this!! in fact i think they should approach his studio with an endorsement deal bc this would be a true match made in heaven 🥐🥹💖
imagine the commercial videos being something like:
xz waking up and looking all soft and sleepy, it's still early so the room is dark but he's illuminated with the warm light of a softly glowing croissant on his bedside table
or
xz going to sleep, putting away a book he was reading and turning off his cute little reading light bread lamp. cut to morning. the bread lamp has mysteriously disappeared and there are only tiny crumbs left?? oh no what happened--
THE POSSIBILITIES ARE ENDLESS

INTUITIVE DESIGN THEORY
Croissant Bread Lamp (Battery Powered LED Light) by Yukiko Morita
Made out of real (unsold) croissants, this lamp or pampshade provides a gentle ambient light source and is designed to be displayed on a table or desk. It may not provide enough light to light up a whole room, this croissant pampshade is great for aesthetic purposes or to be put on display only.

Bread Lovers Will Eat These Up! Pampshade Loaf Lights Made from Real Bread.
image courtesy of pampshade Yukiko Morita upcycles bread into creative lighting by partnering with bakeries and using day old baked goods for her collection. The artist first had the idea to create bread lights from real bread way back in 2007 when she was a student in the printmaking department at Kyoto City University of the Arts. In 2016, her “Pampshade” branded bread lamps were exhibited at…

Lamps made from real bread loaves! They’re hollowed out, treated with resin to make them “permanent” (and non-snackable) and lit by LEDs.
The inventor, Yukiko Morita, was working in a bakery and didn’t like seeing unsold bread discarded as food waste, so now she collects bread that would otherwise be discarded and converts it into lighting. My favorite part is that a lot of them have an option to buy the snack made with the innards of the bread.
NGL the toast is pretty tempting.

- yukiko morita, “pampshade”
As a student working part-time at a bakery, I couldn’t stand the sight of unsold bread being thrown away at the end of the day. I would take it in my arms and carry it home, eating it myself, decorating my room with it like flowers, giving it to friends. This modest attempt at daily resistance changed when one evening I saw the light from the western sun illuminating a piece of bread whose white contents I had hollowed out and eaten. For a brief, inexpressible moment, it glowed beautifully within the darkened room.
