Palomena prasina nymph with the classic miserable wet dog face. i almost never see these guys as adults for some reason but multiple times a year the woods will be covered in these shitty little lentils and it's a fun time for everyone involved. except for them since they're very scared of me (June 26th, 2024)

For the ten characters ask: Pet, JinYeong, Zero, Athelas, Marazul, Morgana, Daniel, Palomena, Camellia, YeoWoo (aka, main City Between/Worlds Behind casts)
Oooo excellent theme! :D Let’s sort these out! (Please note most of these should not be taken seriously as I would never, for example, push someone down the stairs) (on purpose)
Send me 10 characters and I will tell you who I would…
Marry: Daniel (shhhh we’re pretending there aren’t ships involved and that we’re the same age, grumpy protective-older-brother wolf boy is my favoriiiite and if I HAVE to pick one—)
Drink tea with: Athelas (look, statistically speaking, he’s been at his least problematic while enjoying a cup of tea, and I’m assuming he has no reason to poison me)
Party with: Morgana (I wanna have a gamer party with this girl, show me ALL the cool things!!!)
Kiss: Pet (platonically, on the head, combined with a hug and a “good job,” the girl needs hugs for all she’s been through)
Go out on a date with: Zero (it would be awkward for both of us, but I might get lucky and see him defrost enough to tell me some interesting stories about Behind or his adventures)
Push down the stairs: Marazul (1. He really annoyed me in the first series, and 2. I’m assuming his wheelchair is enchanted not to dump him so I am envisioning a cartoony juttering-down-the-stairs sequence)
Slap: Jinyeong (I enjoy his character but you know he deserves it, esp. if he goes on about how beautiful he is)
Invade the dreams of: Camelia (idk what this really means, am I showing up in her dreams or just watching them like a movie? I’m running out of options and she seems like maybe she’d have interesting dreams)
Take a nap with: YeoWoo (I feel like her fluffy gumiho form would be comfy to nap against? This is all assuming she would even allow this.)
Rob: Palomena (look I was out of options and this was almost YeoWoo but she would DEFINITELY murder me. I feel like Palomena would just be Disappointed which would still hurt because she’s one of my favorites and I wanted to put her on the friend-date one, but at least I’m not dead and she’s not gonna try and trap me with tricky fae consequences)

The City Between and Lockwood&Co have similar vibes, but something that puts The City Between higher on the list for me is the way Pet interacts with other women. Lucy is always jealous and suspicious of other women, and I hate it. Pet, on the other hand, tends to have a very positive view of other women, and is always friendly towards them, even women who are "prettier" or "more talented" than she is. She builds friendships with other women very quickly, and I love it.

you are not immune to hemipteran faces. i posted a Nezara viridula nymph a while back, and now here's an adult. superficially these aren't super different from the native Palomena prasina, but they're a more vivid green and "smoother" looking, with less visible lines around the pronotum and scutellum. it's probably a good sign that they're still much rarer than native stinkbugs out here, but i'm okay with seeing one every now and then

Saw this little lady (I'm sure it's a lady?) today and had a great photo sesh with her.

This photo is particularly interesting because you can see the spiracles, also called the respiratory openings, very well. And when I look at the abdomen in this photo, I think I can see a gonapophysis which is part of the female genitalia.
She held oh so still for me and didn't even want to get off my hand for a long time, until she finally flew into the sky. Maybe she left some eggs for me, who knows. Do you guys know what their eggs look like?

@casperwyomingxer submitted: This friendly green shield bug (Palomena prasina) in my UK garden left this mysterious red liquid on my hand. Is it possible to know what this liquid is in terms of its chemistry (something general like nitride or aldehyde would be good enough, though it would be great to know what causes the colour red as well) and its biological function? Like is the liquid its waste or defensive fluid?
I was pretty excited about smelling a stink bug for the first time and was disappointed that the liquid did not smell lol.
Some people can't smell the stink at all! I know I can't. It's defensive, but I'm afraid I know nothing about the chemical makeup.
