The Pale Beyond
I started a playthrough of this game. And I am in love with it. I've only gotten to the start of week 5, and I feel like I'm about to emotionally devestated VERY QUICKLY. But I love all these characters, and we'll see how it goes. While I'm a little sad there's no real way to customize the First Mate (your POV PC) the fact that they leave it nebulous is AMAZING. I have yet to find any bits of dialogue that they assume anything about you as such. I'm really digging it. Love it. Will update again once I've gotten further in.

So You Finished Disco Elysium and Don't Know What to Play Next
You may have seen my other games rec post (if not, there are a lot of recs there). But I have since played many more games that, if you love Disco as much as I do, you might also really enjoy! (Many of these are on sale for the Steam Winter Sale until 1/2/24, go check them out! Some are even as little as like 2 USD!)
A House of Many Doors
This one was mentioned very briefly in my last rec post, but I think A House of Many Doors deserves more words dedicated to it. This game is set in The House, a strange dimension of huge rooms that pulls things and people from other worlds into it, trapping them forever. You play as one of the house's denizens, and you are on a mission to escape.
If you enjoyed the concept of The Pale in Disco, I think a lot of aspects of The House will appeal to you as well.
Norco
Norco has been on my wishlist since I made the last post, but I finally got around to buying and playing it a few months ago. Norco is an RPG set in the oil town of Norco, Louisiana, and paints a beautiful and strange picture of the rural-industrial south. It contains heavy Christian themes and absolutely stunning pixel art. One of my favorite games I played this year.
Clickolding
Cickolding is a very short horror game in which you play as a person getting paid to click a clicker while the man above watching. It's weird and highly sexually charged, though no actual sexual content occurs. I can't say too much about this but it is an experience, for sure.
The Pale Beyond
In The Pale Beyond, you play as the first mate aboard The Temperance, which is bound for the Antarctic in search of a missing scientific vessel. Things, as you might expect, do not go according to plan. You must keep your crew alive, relatively healthy, and in good spirits.
This one's also a strong recommendation for fans of The Terror, for obvious reasons. (Side note: if animal death is a trigger for you, I'd recommend playing this with caution, or not at all.)
Inscryption
Inscryption is the game that changed my mind about deckbuilders (I used to really not like them), which opened the door to my current addiction (Balatro. If you haven't bought it, don't. Your friends may never see you again).
Inscryption is a horror deckbuilder roguelike that is by the same creator as The Hex and Pony Island, both of which I also recommend. It's an incredibly fun game, and I recommend not looking into the plot too much because it's way more fun going into it as blind as possible.
Slay the Princess
In Slay the Princess, you are the Hero. You must slay the princess. If you don't the world will end. That's all there is to it. Why would you do anything other than slay her, after all? You don't want the world to end, do you?
Slay the Princess is a time loop game where your choices affect the next loop -- I don't want to say too much on that because it's a fun thing to experience yourself.
80 Days
Inspired by the Jules Verne novel, you play as Passepartout, valet to Phileas Fogg. Your employer has entered a bet to race around the world in 80 days. In this text-based adventure, it is your job to balance his budget and health, and to plan your route.
There are so many ways to make this journey, and enough different events that I'm far from having seen it all despite how many times over I've played it. Highlights for me include: falling in love with a man while we nearly died in the arctic, getting jailed in Russia for nearly a week because I made some poor choices, and abandoning our mission to become a jewel thief.
Other Games You Might Wanna Check Out
Jalopy, Overboard!, Vampire: The Masquerade - Bloodlines, Yes Your Grace, Buckshot Roulette, A Date With Death, Fields of Mistria, Obscura, Tavern Talk, Killer Frequency, Not For Broadcast, The Life and Suffering of Sir Brante, Bastion

[BTP] Aes Sidhe forward scouts, known colloquially by human towns close to the war-border as 'Green Men' for their woolen camouflage and ability to seemingly appear from thin air. They lead the main Sidhe host towards villages to burn and fortresses to plunder.

the thing about anti-LGBT sentiment in postcolonial countries being positioned as a foreign incursion that's ultimately used to reify traditional power structures that strengthen capitalism in their respective territories is that for all their posturing western states don't actually see anti-LGBT laws in the global south as something bad but rather a tool that can be used to their benefit. LGBT repression, whether used to shore up right wing political movements or as a limp justification for regime change, is a valuable weapon in the hands of imperialists.
a lot of problems we see in postcolonial states are fights between the local bourgeoisie and the international bourgeoisie - the issue to them fundamentally isn't that the working class of our country is being exploited, it's that the spoils are going elsewhere rather than being consolidated by our own bourgeoisie. capitalists in the global south often co-opt ideas like 'anti imperialism' and twist their meaning to shore up right wing nationalism and strengthen the power of the domestic bourgeois class, not to actually challenge imperialism (or the capitalism that belies it). it's also why so many petit bourgeois in the global south are easily convinced into being anticommunist right wing nationalists lol it often suits their class interests

God, I get the absolute worst people in the notes of my posts.
Imagine being the kind of atrocious human being who says that Jews have a "victim complex" after suffering a pogrom which took 1,200 lives and a concurrent 400% worldwide rise in antisemitic abuse and violence, less than a century after the worst genocide in history decimated two thirds of their population, which they still haven't recovered from, and which is being denied more and more with each passing day.
Imagine being the kind of unimaginable cunt who finds that acceptable behaviour.
Would you say that Black people concerned about racism and police brutality have a "victim complex"?
Would you say women concerned about sexual assault or domestic violence when 1 in 3 are victims at some point in their lives have a "victim complex"?
Would you say trans people concerned about anti trans legislation in health and social care have a "victim complex"?
So why is it, again and again and again, Jewish people facing very real oppression and persecution are seen as fair play to behave hideously towards?
#antisemitism#apologies for the language#but some people are just utterly beyond the pale#and abject hypocrites

I swear, the Pale King just organized a conveyor belt for the production of minions from the void and delegated his duties to them
In my understanding, Lurien and the Collector were the two most reasonable specimens, so the King made them work. For free, of course, only out of a sense of love for its creator. And less autonomous samples became his kingsmoulds
Lurien was obviously entrusted with overseeing the City of Tears, but I think the situation is more interesting with the Collector
I think the King originally appointed him as a scientist who was supposed to study the effects and consequences of contact of living beings with the void. Is it possible to defeat the infection in this way or reduce its impact? It would be easy for him, since he himself is from the void
After all, he has his own tower with a study. But to be honest, the Tower of Love reminds me of one big room with soft walls for a madman, and it stands literally on the very edge of the city, isolated from it. I think the king initially saw that the Collector was not quite adequate, but he needed research, so he simply provided him with a tower with access to the Edge of the Kingdom so that he could catch unreasonable beetles there for research, and not cause problems in the city
The bug with the void flowing out of its eyes, in which we find the key to the tower, thinks that they have been together with someone for too long, and have become one. I think it was one of the assistants or workers in the tower who escaped when the influence of the void on the inhabitants of the tower became obviously detrimental. He locked the Collector up and took the key with him so that he could no longer "protect" everything he could reach
#And Lurien at the same time#“Why do I have to deal with the crazy scientists in this city”#Between loyal but obviously autistic creatures and normal living workers the King chose the former#Probably because their work is free#By the way#in the city and beyond you can find many portraits and beetles with void flowing out of their eyes#I think it's because there were rumors about research on this topic in the city#and many citizens were really sure that contact with the void would protect them from the plague#Well they really don't look infected#Just painfully dead#or maybe it's like with lead whitewash in the Middle Ages#Void treatment just became fashionable#Fashionable black eyeliner and pale mask#hollow knight#hk#hk pale king#hk collector#hk lurien#hollow knight pk#hk pk#lurien the watcher#hollow knight collector

m*a*s*h set in present day: frank seduces margaret by gifting her flag-themed lingerie ($2.99 clearance at walmart) in a high-end designer shopping bag. she can't contain herself and drops hints all day about how ✨someone✨ is treating her like a queen and wouldn’t-you-like-to-know what he got me and from WHERE here's a hint it's on FIFTH AVENUE. it goes south when frank does something to inspire swamp rat revenge, so they stir up trouble by leaving evidence around that the original contents of the bag were for you-know-who instead. the last straw and last joke of the b-plot as she kicks him out of her tent is that "THESE ARE MADE! IN! CHINA!!!!"
#frank stands firm on AMERICAN MADE ONLY#unless it’s on sale#she can forgive a lot but some things are beyond the pale!!!#frank/margaret i love everything that's wrong with you never change#mashblogging#mash

[OC/BTP] Lady Iseult D'Awleigh from her time in the cloistered life of an acolyte and druidess of Urathail
Acolytes of Urathail are willingly blindfolded as a rite of passage until they experience a 'revelation' and are brought into the fold of the mystery cult. Iseult ascended the ranks to an initiated Awakened, who carry meditative mirrors of polished steel.
