Turkey is very close to Koreans hearts as in the war in 60s Turkish soldiers respected and helped Korean people and didn't just stay in their own barracks. Koreans as individuals also gave alot of money to turkey so doyoung giving alot isn't weird or really that different to others giving alot.
Maybe it's just me but in my culture if u give, ure not supposed to tell it anyone so it's still weird to me how celebs publish their charities in Korea. Also doyoung is all allbout public image and donating to a country who supported Koreans in the war is a good thing to do for image
P.S. I envy Turks their positive image, at least in Asian counties. I'm Pakistani and I can tell u we love them as a nation and it seems like most Asian do too.
Don't judge another culture by the rules of your own. Do's donation gained publicity as a good example. It is not a small scale local case (like scholarships, a dog shelter or building a village school), it's a natural disaster all countries are helping with.
~100k USD is a lot of money. I know you didn't mean it, but just to clarify, in cases like this "good image" is "set an example", not "create a clean image for myself".
SM's idols do charities every year and it is advertised (like 127 playing basketball with cognitively impaired kids or helping to feed elderly).
Funnily enough, just the other day I talked with my friend about fandoms. @jan-fm said that the fans should be educated by the agency (and the idols), their behavior controlled in a way as to not go to destructive extremes.
People follow famous people instinctively (apes learn from the "top-dog", someone higher in hierarchy), influencers now are as powerful as ever. When an idol buys a product, his fans buy it too, when an idol preaches something positive, his fans do it too (look at Army boasting how BTS is all about peace, good example and stuff, even the toxic fans do good because it's "our identity").
Charity needs to be taught, the idea (and the experience of feeling good after a donation, a good deed) implanted. Maybe in your culture religion or tradition do it. SK is a country where prospective employees are told to do plastic surgery to have a chance at getting hired, a country whose people spend the most on luxury goods (fake status), a country where mental illnesses are not a thing. Therefore, I see only positive in idols and celebreties letting the public know that they are members of a big charity society. It's not like Doyoung is a controversial figure who would make people doubt his intentions.

Low key so embarrassed at times to be a Pakistani when it comes to fandoms. I — for better or for worse — have been in several different fandoms that span the world, yo. MCU, Harry Potter, K dramas, J dramas, K-pop, Turkish dramas, Bridgerton, anime… literally everything.
I have never seen this mentality of fans trying to dictate who an actor can or cannot work with, and I thought I had seen pretty much everything. I mean when youre as big of a BTS fan as me, you legit think you’ve seen it all when it comes to toxicity, but once again pakistan unpleasantly surprises me.
Plus, with pretty much zero exception to this rule, it is always the female in the situation who is blamed for working with an actor which is their job, regardless of if the female is part of the hit pairing or the kebab mein haddi. The Maya and wahaj thing is recent, but it was the exact same with sajal and Ahad. Fawad and Mahira. Ayeza and Imran Abbas for a while. To some extent, mawra and Ameer Gillani, and the two leads from fairy tale whose names i can’t ever remember.
Where does this come from in pakistan? What is it about our culture that makes people think this is acceptable? Can you tell me if you’ve seen it anywhere else aside from Pakistanis? I legit don’t even see Indian/hardcore Bollywood fans say this type of stuff about their faves. A part of me is wondering if it’s the same subset of people who think telling an actor their clothing is acceptable or not is saying these things and that’s where the entitlement comes from, but I don’t want to falsely accuse the deen of something if there’s another cause.
ps you should check out “the glory” K drama on Netflix. I think you’d like it.
one word: misogyny.
it's a misogynist society and a frustrated society. there's no welfare for the people. economy is shit. the political state of the country is shit. there's literally no security of future here. things get progressively worse and worse for the people who are living here on monthly wages, God only knows how the people surviving on daily wages are faring. no one is having it "good" here except for a very very VERY select few. and there's no way of showing that frustration for many people. social media gives people an anonymity to channel their frustrations in different ways. kisi deewar pe toh sar phodna hi hai.
btw, I disagree that Pakistani fandoms are so worse of the lot. this story is the same everywhere. the only reason why it looks bigger here is because compared to other fandoms, by quantity, Pakistani fandom is smaller. it's like a small town where everyone knows everyone. there's no escaping the trash at the side of the road cuz everyone is using the same road to travel. while other fandoms like kpop for instances can still allow fans the make their own safe circles away from the negativity and still manage to enjoy the feel of a large community. itna toh main likh ke de sakti hoon that by no comparison is Pakistani fandom worse than the stuff kpop fans, specifically armies, pull out. it's all about where you are getting your news from.
twitter is just ONE of the platforms where fandoms exist. before the monopoly of social media came into place, we had multiple platforms which housed fandoms. idk if you have interacted with fandoms at different places. for me, the tumblr fandom culture largely shaped how i interact with the media (a mix of meta analysis+edits). the twitter side of fandom interacts with media different. Indiaforums had a very different way of interacting with media. soompi and dramabeans were where I went for kdrama side of fandom. we also have reddit which is a completely different beast. and these are just English speaking platforms. the local Korean/Chinese/Japanese platforms which remain the biggest and most influential communities for the East Asian media content have a culture that outsiders simply cannot understand no matter how good the translating account is.
so yeah, yes Pakistani fandoms have problem. but which fandom doesn't? the general rule of "mute and block and be vigilant in maintaining a timeline that caters to only your interest!" applies here as well as to every fandom ever. ignore the shit takes and the negativity the best you can; they only exist to sour your personal good time here.
(i LOVEEEEEEEEEE The Glory. i showed my love for it decently enough on twt back when both the parts dropped)

Pakistani BTS ARMY organized a series of projects to show our love and support for Bangtan in honor of their 4th Anniversary. These included an Oral Health Campaign and a partnership restaurant between P.B.A and California Pizza in Lahore.

PROJECTS OVERVIEW:
By Iffah Asif Mughal
Sometimes being a fan is hard in a country where fandom culture isn’t always taken seriously. It’s even harder when the fandom revolves around a foreign entertainment industry which is neither Bollywood nor Hollywood. It brings up the ever so common question “It’s in a different language! Why do you care if you don’t even know what’s being said?”
Korean Entertainment in Pakistan is slowly but surely making its way into the hearts of Pakistani youth but it’s still not widespread enough that we can easily find each other. It still comes as a shock when a fellow classmate reveals that they too, listen to Kpop or watch Kdramas.
It may surprise many to know that the Pakistani K-entertainment fanbase now consists of more than 2000 people. 26 year old fangirl, Maryyam, created a Facebook group Kpop Pakistan United Fandoms in 2014 with the hopes of uniting all Pakistani k-entertainment fans in one place so they could have someone to fangirl and relate with. She has also created many other K-Entertainment groups such as Pak Kor Chingu and Pakistani BTS ARMY and is also the admin of many other Pakistani and International groups and pages.
Recently, in honor of BTS’s (Kpop Boy Group) 4th Anniversary she and the rest of the Pakistani BTS ARMY admin team worked on a series of projects for the promotion of Kpop in Pakistan. One such project was an Oral Health Campaign with the motto “Everyone deserves to smile.” The project was organized for a year and was finally put into motion when a team of volunteering dentists visited school’s in Pakistan for an Oral Health education program that was successfully carried out under BTS’s name for their 4thAnniversary this year.
The program included a free dental checkup, teaching sessions on “How to Brush Your Teeth Properly” and distribution of free dental goods (toothbrush, toothpaste and a manual on proper brushing). Pakistani BTS ARMY members donated and participated in this project to make it successful. As oral healthcare is expensive and not available to all, the aim of Pakistani ARMYs is to make more people aware of their health and make treatments affordable for them. PBA team hopes to continue this welfare campaign throughout the rest of the year.
Another 4th Anniversary project PBA team organized was based on the increasing trend of themed restaurants. The PBA team came up with the idea of creating a BTS themed restaurant also as a 4th Anniversary project. The members of the team struggled to find a restaurant in Lahore willing to endorse their idea. After much time and effort they came across a local Pakistani Pizzeria, California Pizza, and pitched their idea to the multi-unit operation manager Terry. He fell for BTS’s charisma instantly and furthered the proposal to his management team. After receiving the approval for a partnership to be formed, the PBA team got the second floor of the Pizzeria to themselves to decorate as they wished.
The second floor, now having been dubbed “Bangtanistan” (Bangtan + Pakistan) is decorated with BTS flex, images and standees. The restaurant playlist has been updated to play BTS songs and the screen plays BTS’s multitude of music videos. The PBA Team also dedicated a special section to other kpop groups for fans who aren’t BTS stans but enjoy other kpop boy and girl groups. The restaurant is located at Johar Town, California Pizza near UCP/Shukat Khanum. As a bonus surprise for ARMY customers, anyone who places a free home delivery will get BTS goodies as a gift.
PBA Team is working hard to launch similar restaurant projects in other major cities such as Karachi and Islamabad with the help of Pakistani BTS ARMY.
A fan book project was also organized by BTS Pakistan Official Fan Club (BPOFC). Messages from Pakistani ARMY were compiled in a book along with pictures and fan art which will be sent to BTS as a sign of love and support from their Pakistani fans.

moment of proof ~
i discovered bts (and k-pop/k-drama) during the first 2 weeks of the covid lockdown and safe to say that it has quickly become all that i do now. but not in an obsessive way. it seeps into my daily life, and makes me feel better.
i now try new stuff, not restricted to korean influences. for e.g. i try new dishes and bake cakes, i watch different YouTube videos, i watch a hell lot of k-dramas and even read some books. i should also add that given i'm asian/brown, i feel more represented under these new influences compared to western media. this might be why i feel closer here.
when i listen to music, i look up the lyrics and their underlying themes. when i complete a series/book, i delve in the reddit discussion and read almost every interpretation of episodes/characters. when i see a recipe, i look up alternatives instead of giving up if i don't have the ingredients.
it's weird to explain but it feels like since discovering bts and the subsequent k-culture that comes along, i have allowed myself to open up and receive a much wider artistic browsing experience in general. i reconnected to bollywood/pakistani content as well as my own culture.
i may have also simply just grown up and matured during the lockdown and post-lockdown. i have done more "casual" introspection and pondered on what i like and what not. following which, i also started therapy.
so when bts released their anthology album, i felt like i had to have "proof" of my new found love for art in general. be it books, food, music, videos, fashion, and artistic creation in general. so i bought the album and now cherish it as a visual proof of how much i changed and how i enjoy these interests of mine.
definitely didn't expect to receive all this additional content (lyrics book/poster and a 2seok photo card combo) but here we are.
here's to further introspection and inner discovery while browsing deeper of what the world consists of.

My relationship with music is an on and off type thing. I don’t listen to music much, but when i do i want to listen to supremely good, heartfelt songs. That is why i always lean back onto the oldies or any good remake of the older songs (english or urdu). But lately i have been obsessed with old folk songs of Pakistan. So let’s begin (in no particular order):
1. Kithay Nain Na Jorin - Ali Sethi’s tribute to Reshma is just wowww!!
2. Chan Kithan - Ali Sethi. I’ve just newly been introduced to Ali Sethi so yes i’m a little obsessed. This is a song sung in sariki. I had a friend translate this for me and i loved it.
3. Faasle - Another Coke Studio remake by Ravish and Quraltulain Baloch. This always makes my heart upset for that love that i could never have which i never knew i wanted in the first place.
4. Ranjish - Ali Sethi’s tribute once again. Original is just as good. The thing i love about Ali Sethi is he does justice to the original version. This took me alot of tries to get through the whole song because i always got teary 2 minutes in.
5. Ae Dil Kisi Ki Yaad Men - Salim Raza. Just dayyummm
6. Yeh Mera Dewana Pan by Mukesh.
7. Lag ja Gaale - Lata Mangeshkar
8. See You Again - Zayn Malik’s version. I’m not a zayn malik fan, but his voice really suits these kinda songs.
9. Awake - Jin (BTS) The thing is…i listen to music from any language! So long as it’s good, i don’t mind the language at all. So this is a korean song by the most underrated singer of BTS. There are people that argue he can’t sing…but just listen to this. (Ofcourse i love other BTS songs too)
10. By My Side - Wannabe another korean song.
I have so much more but i can’t think of them at the moment. My playlist is scattered. There is no real type of music that i stick to.

morning, afternoon or night?
oh damn this is actually very hard to answer,,, bc this changes from day to day!! sometimes im in such a good mood at eight in the morning as i walk to the bus stop bc the sun is shining but it isn’t hot and there’s a nice breeze!! afternoon,,, nah not my vibe i get tired by then!! and then night,, i actually get sleepy by ten ( i know im weak ) but like i adore the night sky,, if i ever get the chance or go outside when its dark,, i guarantee 110% i will point out jupiter and try to find smth unique,, if i got to choose a dream career, one of the options would be in astronomy 🌌☄
what reminds you of home (doesn’t have to mean house… just things that remind you of the feeling of home)?
first of all, home by bts first came to my mind, u can tell how much bts adores army and the vocals just make me chill and relax!! apart from that,, being around other friends n loved ones that make me feel comfortable and they aren’t judgemental!! like idk how relatable this is, but sometimes ur sitting w a group of rlly good friends but ur not like rlly into it,, just kinda sitting and listening but other times ur laughing so much and making jokes and u feel so welcomed yknow?? also traditional dishes like pakistani cuisine,, for real tho it just hit different after a long day !!
send me soft asks!!!

Pakistani politician brings down BTS member Jungkook’s birthday billboard in Gujranwala (Photo Credits – Wikimedia)
Pakistani BTS fans went to new heights to celebrate the birthday of K-pop band member Gene Jungkook. Megaband has earned one of the biggest fan bases of all, as they call themselves ARMY.
An incident took place in Gujranwala, Pakistan, where a birthday billboard featuring Gene Jungkook on the singer’s 24th birthday was removed within hours.
The birthday AD placed on Jungkook’s birthday (September 1) was erected for about four floors at a crossroads in the city. The words printed on it were “Jungkook BTS Gujranwala Army”.
A billboard for his 24th birthday in Jungkook, Pakistan was forcibly removed by a political party for ‘promoting homosexuality’, which made me very sick. The girl who pays for the billboard has to pay to put it up??? + pic.twitter.com/oXv5CGIcD7

Provincial Assembly candidate Furqan Aziz Butt, who is also working for the Islamic political party Jamaat-e-Islami, had a birthday hoarding put up by the army for Jungkook, claiming to have received “a lot of complaints” from citizens. was later removed.
Speaking to entertainment outlet Vice, the local politician said that: “There was so much ruckus. There are young people in this city. This group exerts negative influence on them and encourages them to behave in wrong activities. They promote homosexuality.”
“Why was it put here? They don’t have a brand name here and they don’t sell products here.” “Those who plant it call themselves ‘Gujranwala Army’. There is only Pakistani army here.”
The move by the local politician has engulfed ARMY in dismay, with the hashtags “#PakBTSARMYsAreStrong” and “#PakistanLovesBTS” used by them trending on Twitter. He also revealed that Pakistani fans had arranged several charity drives to support the local communities.
Zainab Saman, a BTS fan from Islamabad, told Vice: “The Gujranwala incident has hurt Pakistan’s BTS army very badly. A politician appears out of nowhere and says that BTS is promoting homosexuality and spreading obscenity. BTS has never used obscene verses in their songs. They are just about loving themselves and being happy. Don’t they know how much they are tarnishing the image of Pakistan?
