My bookbinding tools and stuff

I started binding in July 2023, so I'm certainly no expert, but in case you're interested in what I use to create my binds…

I use Adobe InDesign to typeset and Illustrator for graphics

I print on an old Canon laser printer for black and white and an Epson ET-3830 inkjet for color

I purchase my shortgrain paper from Church Paper (for folios) and the long grain paper I use for quartos is just whatever (nothing special)

I love my punching cradle and guide that I got off etsy.

I use this thread (that I wax with beeswax) for sewing signatures

I love this cardstock for endpapers (Craft Consortium ink drops) but I collect pads of 12x12 cardstock in various designs from craft stores.

I like this bookboard (in black specifically)

ETA: I recently ordered precut boards from Hollander's. I cannot recommend this enough. I got the .10 thick board.

I use these tools for spacing and squaring when creating covers

Everything gets stuck together with this glue. (GET THE POINTY TOP!)

I have an old Silhouette Cameo for cutting vinyl and applying foil to bookcloth (with this pen)

I use this foil quill for freehanding

I apply laser toner foil with this Scotch laminator

I have a thermal binding machine from Amazon and I use these glue strips with it

I have this guillotine (but I don't recommend black for visibility reasons)

I have purchased bookcloth from Hollander's, Colophon, and Amazon. I don't recommend the Allure line if you are decorating with HTV or paint.

Get this heat and bond if you want to make your own bookcloth

I make ribbon bookmarks with charms like these and these crimps.

Caveat: These are just the tools and supplies I use. I am not an expert. I'm a hobbyist who is relatively new to it. Some of the things I use might be "wrong" but every book I've made works, so who cares?

Literally bc Amazon is THE same business model, but it's made to look more streamlined, as if you're always buying From Amazon even tho a ton of the listings on there are in fact from different sellers, like you can find on ebay. They are both online marketplaces.

the difference is that ebay purchases actually show up where I tell them to

some ppl are scared of ebay, and I think it's so funny because it'll be like. one of my sisters wanted to know where I got a particular lotion, I sent her the ebay link, and she's like omg I'm scared, what if they take my card information..... GIRL. amazon is worse!!!!

Witchcraft Exercises - Witchy Inspo Journal

Not sure what to do with all those notebooks you’ve collected for future use in your craft? (Don’t lie, we all have a stack somewhere.) Turn them into inspo journals!

Create and maintain a journal where each page is a quote or song lyric or picture that inspires you in your craft or defines some element of your practice. Use scrapbooking materials, washi tape, stickers, stamps, and any art supplies you wish. If you’re skilled at drawing or painting, you can do that too. 

The journal can be a simple notebook or a three-ring binder or a nice scrapbook from the craft store, whatever works for you. Try to do a page a week if you can, and collect ideas for future pages when you can’t. Update as often as you feel inspired to do so and enjoy some witchy art therapy.

This can also be turned into a devotional activity, with your inspo journal dedicated to your chosen deity(ies) or pantheon. A devotional inspo journal can also make a great private altar if you don’t have the space for one in your home or if you’re a stealth witch who can’t practice or venerate openly.

Any tips on cosplaying? I wanted to try cosplaying Ramona Flowers but I’ve. Never done anything remotely related to cosplay so I’m not sure where to start with like clothes and such

YES ACTUALLY

Personally I like to build my cosplays by thrifting basics and adding onto them and doing arts and crafts with it if I can ! While some characters require a very specific article of clothing, (like the time I did Iono from pkmn and in that case I just bought a premade costume,) you can find similar or even identical clothing pieces at a thrift store. My possessed Hunter cosplay was super cheap, I got a corduroy yellow jumpsuit from Buffalo Exchange and a wolf shirt from mercari. Thrifting is also sustainable and in some cases you can reuse pieces you buy for either casual wear or other costumes! Like if I wanted to, I could take off the black felt patches and use the jumpsuit for a Kazuichi cosplay ! Also I just like making my cosplays from thrifts because I feel like it adds a little personal touch.

Also, premade cosplays like you find on Amazon tend to be made in sweatshops and out of cheap polyester that gets hot and uncomfortable over time. As someone who lives in Houston, you can probably guess why temperature is an important factor to consider for me. The only things I try to get off of Amazon for my cosplays are things like hosiery (stockings, gloves, leggings, underwear) and wigs. Wigs are a whole other category I’ll make a separate post for.

YOU DO NOT HAVE TO BUY FANCY FABRIC OR SUPPLIES!! seriously! The patches of felt I used for Hunter was craft felt that was like 98 cents a yard. Maybe less I don’t remember. And the belos streaks on the gloves were green craft felt I painted with cheap acrylic paint and cut out! And then hot glued! - craft stores like Michael’s or hobby lobby (which you should always steal from as it is always morally correct to steal from hobby lobby) will have basic, solid color Gildan shirts in varying styles and colors for super cheap. I use those as bases for lots of my costumes, as they have tank tops, tees, v necks, sweatshirts and hoodies that you can build on and around. Strawberry crepe is one of those! The sweatshirt was leik $4.

use eva foam for making props or headpieces! It’s bendable, lightweight, cheap, and comes in a variety of thicknesses. It’s what I used for the magnemites on iono and the headband for strawberry crepe!

✮ country boy matt who... spoils the fuck out of you. at first it started off small, buying you whatever you touched in the store, your amazon Wishlist... etc., etc... but then you saw a pretty car at a dealership but didn't get it. the next day, he went and got it. then you saw a really nice house that was closer to your parents, but it was out of your price range. guess what? he bought it for you.

✮ country boy matt who... will take you out to dinner after every big accomplishment. got that job you wanted? fancy restaurant. got a promotion IN said job? fuck restaurants, he's taking you on a vacation! (he loves spoiling you w everything he's got, it's his love language.)

heeseung || decorating your appartment

you and heeseung had just moved into your new appartment and you wanted to decorate it yourself instead of hiring someone. heeseung was totally on board with the idea and you guys started browsing for home decor on amazon and looking for inspo on pinterest. you also took a trip to your local craft store for paint and other supplies.

when you had all the stuff, heeseung played some music on his phone and you guys got started! you had never imagined having a date of this kind but you weren't complaining!

first thing you did was change into some old clothes and start painting the walls. it got pretty messy, especially after that mini paint fight you had. some of the rogue paint ended up of the wall where the paint was still drying but you didn't mind, it was a nice touch.

next up on your agenda was setting up furniture and placing the decor items like picture frames, a clock, lamps, etc.

you observed the finished result and were left in awe. you swear you've never had more fun.

jay || cooking

c'mon you can't tell me you weren't expecting that from enhypen's personal chef.

the plan was to make enchiladas since you mentioned how you were craving mexican food that morning (he isn't gonna tell you that tho ofc).

you guys had gone grocery shopping for the ingredients beforehand. you weren't the most experienced cook, more into baking, but you had jay by your side so there was nothing to worry about. you were more than glad to play sous chef.

he had assigned you the task of preparing the stuffing, giving some basic instructions he headed over to the stove to prepare the sauce.

ding! that meant the enchiladas were ready! putting on some mitts, jay took your dinner out if the oven and the smell almost had you drooling. when it was time to eat, however, your impatient ass dug in too quickly and burned your tongue. jay immediately got up to get you a glass of water but you knew he was gonna laugh at you for it later.

the enchiladas tasted heavenly after they had cooled down enough to eat.

jake || lego building

"darling i don't think that piece is supposed to go there" you looked back and forth between the manual in your hands and the unfinished model on the floor.

you had ordered a new lego set for jake for your 6 month anniversary. his eyes had lit up instantly, letting out a gasp with his mouth wide open making the ':0' face which quickly gave way to the puppy smile you adored, as you looked at him affectionately.

"do you like it?" "ARE YOU KIDDING??? I LOVE IT!! AND I LOVE YOU EVEN MORE!!! i've had my eye on this particular set for a while now!" your own smile widening at this reaction "i'm glad".

"let's do build it together!" "r-right now?" "why not?" you were caught slightly off-guard by his eagerness but went along with it regardless, finding him too adorable to resist.

and that was how you had ended up here. you weren't objecting tho. "are you sure?" you detached the piece and repositioned it at a different angle like how you had seen it in the manual, and gestured towards it after you were done to answer his question, "oh".

you stood up, dusting your hands as you surveyed the finished result, jake mirroring your actions. "i think we did a pretty good job" turning to look at him expectantly. "we did more than a good job sweetie". with that he picked up the model and placed it beside your tv and you knew it was staying there for a while, not that you mind of course.

sunghoon || movie marathon/tv shows

your favourite thing to do after a long day was curl up and binge netflix. after meeting sunghoon however, the activity was no longer something you did alone. being in his comforting embrace while watching some random kdrama or movie was the coziest and nothing short of therapeutic.

"what're we watching next?" you flipped through the various shows, you and sunghoon were clad in your comfiest pair of pjs with your blanket such that it covered both of you perfectly, you head nestled on his warm chest "i saw a clip from that one on youtube yesterday!" "okay! let's watch it!" you pressed play.

one thing you found out about sunghoon from these dates was that he had MAJOR second lead syndrome. you would often bicker over which male lead was better or in the rare case that you agreed over it, the two of you were just yelling at the screen.

"NONONONO!!!! GET AWAY FROM HIM! JUNGWOO IS SO MUCH BETTER!!!" "YES!! KISS KISS KISS KISS"

remarks like these were always flying about.

turning into an ugly sobbing mess while watching 20th century and twenty five-twenty one, laughing at shin hari's antics till your stomachs ached while re-watching business proposal for the millionth time, whatever it be, you could always rely on these evenings to take away the stress of even the worst day at work.
