I think we as a society are missing out on the potential of shellshocked soulmate AUs.

I do not know why I enjoy this trope so much because I think in a lot ways it's pretty allo-and heteronormative and I do not in any way believe in soulmates irl but it is interesting to explore in fiction, I guess.

After that completly unnessecary ramble, here are some cute suggestions I would love to have fics about:

-a classic "what I draw on my skin, appears on mine, too" soulmate AU

Fits them both perfectly, they would have been in contact since they were small but can't meet each other because Mikey's a mutant.

-painsharing between soulmates AU

Mikey's dangerous lifestyle as a TMNT would lead to a lot hurts that Miles has to suffer, too. Yay! Angsty, I guess. Miles would worry a lot about his soulmate in this one. (Maybe, it would even work better if it's a Raised By Draxum AU)

-This isn't really a seperate soulmate AU trope but the return of Mystic Miles.

So, because soulmates share oftentimes literally in these AUs souls and we say that Mikey's mystic come from his soul, would that mean Miles would be just as mystically talented as Mikey? Like, in this case, it's not only Hamato ninpō Miles would get but like all of Mikey's mystic badassery.

Fun angsty twist to the whole thing: When Future!Miles dies in the bad timeline, Mikey gets stronger in mystics because he now has all of his mystic potential for himself. Yayyyy

So yeah, shellshocked soulmate AU, my dudes. Fun stuff.

pain sharing soulmates 🫣

this one can't be explained in just a snippet so.

okay painsharing has been done a few times with soulmates so i wanted to tweak it a little and just mess around with the concept. so instead of sharing the physical sensation, i wanted to make them experience a more consistent pain based on the physical distance between soulmates.

obviously you can see how this would be an issue since maxiel were born on very opposite ends of the world and both have to travel a lot for yk. their jobs.

i haven't fully worked through it yet besides some general ideation and such, but was also thinking of making one of them hyper-sensitive to the pain and the other very blind to it. for angst reasons.

According to the thousands of historical records on the subject, the phenomenon could be dated back to the same period as the dawn of humanity.  In 1951, when it could still be found in roughly 8.7% of the world’s population, the World Health Organization dubbed it NSPD—Neurologically Shared Pain Disorder. No treatment options.  In 1980, when NSPD could be found in roughly 7.5% of the world’s population, the DSM-III was released. It featured new sections on gender dysphoria within children and renamed the extremely controversial “ego-dystonic homosexuality” with a tamer sounding but equally controversial “sexual orientation disturbance.” If one turned the pages of the DSM-III even further, they would chance upon a section dedicated solely to NSPD. A single treatment had emerged earlier that year, in which one affected by DRPR would be placed on routine doses of Aphairo, a version of duloxetine that was targeted toward pain relief.  On April 15, 2012, when DRPR could be found in roughly 5.2% of the world’s population, the first Formula 1 racer known to have DRPR stood on the top of the podium. As far as the public would know, Nico Rosberg would remain the only Formula 1 racer with this condition until 2022.  In February of 2021, when DRPR could be found in roughly 3.3% of the world’s population and several months before Max Verstappen would win his first Formula 1 world championship, a legal case would be brought before court regarding the prescription and usage of Aphairo on patients with DRPR. One of the 1,387 pieces of evidence collected was made by Winona Flemming, a 27 year old woman, who testified that her medication had not only vastly dulled her perception of DRPR-related pain, but it had permanently damaged her ability to determine the distance between herself and the person she was linked to. 283 other people, varying in age, race, and gender, would claim the same over the course of the next month.  Five hours later, when the story would break into the mainstream news cycle, Max Verstappen would email his doctor and ask to make an appointment regarding medication, and then he would dump 42 tablets down his drain. At the same time, Daniel Ricciardo would ring his doctor up, discuss the possibility of trying Aphairo, and then call his mother. 

this was thrown together pretty quickly a few days ago so i have no idea whether or not my ideas will change. for now here you go.

Since Merlin is trending again, I might as well have this great oppurtunity to compile my list of the top 10 Merlin fics that I've read!

But Never You by secygaybxtch -- THIS FIC, it's made me cry too many times to count and definitely deserves it's spot as No.1 -- A magic reveal fic

Ship Of Theseus by theandrogynousdragon -- I have been emotionally damaged by this fic, quite severely might I add. I've read it at least 15 times. The way immortality and their take on time travel is portrayed is simply beautiful. A fandom must-read.

Iwaizumi is pretty sure that all those legends are full of shit. Some people never meet their soulmate. Some soulbonds are born broken and others are built up to break. Sometimes a butterfly is just a stupid butterfly.

Pain, sudden yet muffled, paints its way across his right shoulder and down the back of his throat. The tips of his fingers and the skin of his knees curl on the edge of oversensitive, and Izuku doesn't know where any of it came from.

It isn't until the throbbing in his shoulder squeezes, taking itself from an amalgamous ache to a more distinct shape that he jolts with a gasp and things start to connect for him.

"Midoriya, is there something you'd like to share with the class?" His teacher's voice breaks through the revelation, flat and sardonic. Izuku is too caught up in his head to notice, mind churning a mile a minute as he begins to fit together a picture.

"I think… I think I just got a soulbond." He says, eyes wide as his hand drifts up to his shoulder. He brushes against the ache, trying to push the phantom sensation of nails digging into his flesh away, but there's no hand there and the pressure stays.

-Or- Izuku and Eri are soulmates and share each other's pain. At least, that's how it's supposed to work. Izuku finds he isn't too keen on sharing in this case, and would much prefer to take it all himself.

just read a soulmate series that gave me whiplash

because it started out as, i assumed, ‘first words your soulmate says to you are written on your body’ except one of the two didn’t have the first words he had like..... they had known each other for four years and THEN the other person said the words??

but THEN it was like, painsharing, too?

but that wasn’t all, THEN it was a reincarnation AU and they were gods who were cast out of like fucken olympus or something??  and there were no real tie ins between all these three things, like no explanation about why the universe was like that?  like i’m all for mashing together soulbonds and such but like... they just didn’t seem like they thought it through at all?  like it was suddenly just ‘here i’m going to throw in another type of soulbond just because’ and i ????

Soulmate AU (Painsharing)

Everything has been leading up to this. Izuku can’t fail here, not now. He obtained a Quirk, he passed the entrance exam- he’s not about to be expelled because of a fitness test.

He takes a deep breath and tightens his grip on the ball, searching for the solution to bring him one more step closer to his goals. His Soulmate is out there somewhere waiting to be saved. Izuku can feel it in his pounding heart, in his buzzing skull, in the yawning chasm between two souls yet to connect. He needs to become a Hero, not just to become a Symbol of Peace for everyone, but for them.

One finger. That’s all Izuku needs to finish this. With a mental apology to someone he’s never spoken to, he rears back his arm, charges up his Quirk, and throws. His finger feels like it’s been run over by a truck, but the ball is soaring farther than everyone else’s besides Uraraka’s. He clenches his screaming fist and grins tremulously at his teacher.

“I can still move-!”

WIPs and Ideas

This is kind of a collection of things I’ve been working on / ideas that I have. Some have been posted, some haven’t been. This list is *just* going to be projects I have in mind for BNHA and will not include other fandom pieces that are in the wings. This is because BNHA is basically consuming my life and until I return to a modicum of ‘balance’ it’s probably the only thing I’ll be writing consistently for.

Everything’s under the cut! because it’s uh. Long.

Burden to Bear [Here]- Most of you know this one! Bio!dadmight, Izuku has a mutated quirk alongside one for all. Izuku continues on his path to follow in his father’s footsteps, and Inko is... unhappy that both of the people she cares the most about have no sense of self preservation.

Currently we just finished Kamino Ward. Ah, I can say without providing too many spoilers that I have up to the internship arc planned with some stuff that has to happen after that, so there’s a significant amount left in the story.

Wingbeat of a Butterfly - TodoDeku; bio!dadmight time travel AU. Adult pro heroes Duality and Deku are hit by an unknown quirk and they disappear from their world, only to wake up in the bodies of their teenage selves. They begin preparing immediately for the horrors that await them in the future while struggling to prevent anyone from catching on that things are not what they should be. Chaos ensues eventually. This is planned as my primary project after Burden to Bear.

Brittle Glass Beneath my Skin - Kidnapped!Villain Izuku, possible bio!dadmight, possibly not. Izuku was gifted a quirk by AFO, but also is under the influence of a number of quirks and carefully managed handling to ensure his near-complete loyalty. By the time he resurfaces it may be too late to save him, but will that stop All Might from trying? (No it absolutely will not). I’m considering adding a level of pain and memory sharing soulmate to this AU, but I haven’t actually.... decided that.

The Secrets Between Us - This is an extremely dark soulmate AU centering on Todoroki and Midoriya. It's loosely (very loosely) based on the premise of Kimi no Na Wa ("Your Name") in that they swap bodies with each other when they sleep regularly. The similarities basically end there. This story will explore a heightened level of abuse in the Todoroki home and the effects that has on Shouto as well as on Izuku who is forced to keep those secrets too. 

Razor Thin Line - This is a project that is actually the first thing I thought of when I started watching BNHA, somewhere around the Stain arc. I’m biding my time on it because I don’t know if I can do it justice. It’s meant to be a series of short(er) fics that examine the thin line between heroes and villains and between good and evil. The first installment is intended to heavily feature Shouto/Endeavor/Touya(Dabi). I’m open to suggestions of other heroes/villains/ideas to explore!

Rise from the Ashes - Vigilante Todoroki Siblings (all of them!). They are free from Endeavor, but only for as long as they can evade capture. Basically Touya takes his siblings with him when he runs away, and they grow up a little rougher than they may have otherwise, but together.

Sins of the Father [Here] - This was not supposed to be a multi-shot but uh. What can I say except my brain ran with it. Angsty Dad for One. All Might becomes acutely aware of the fact that his nemesis has a family. Enjoy the slight cliffhanger oneshot and be happy in the knowledge it will grow at some point. P:

Untitled Fantasy AU - Inspired by an AU that @thatfunkyopossum talked about with me one day (because I came forward with tododeku fantasy askldjfsdkljf xD) Prince Shouto, Genie Izuku, Rebel Leader Touya. Vague premise is that Shouto receives an ornate box with a puzzle lock as a birthday gift and he eventually opens it to find... a tiny genie Izuku who offers him the standard three wishes. Things get uh, Interesting.

I’ve also got some plans for a TodoDeku Swan Princess Au. But it’s just a vague.... idea right now.

We Are Not Alone [here] - Painsharing Soul Mate AU pieces. Additional one shots will probably be added to it sporadically. They are mostly play pieces tbh and are a little choppier because I tend to write them in one or two writing sessions and release them.
