I think we as a society are missing out on the potential of shellshocked soulmate AUs.

I do not know why I enjoy this trope so much because I think in a lot ways it's pretty allo-and heteronormative and I do not in any way believe in soulmates irl but it is interesting to explore in fiction, I guess.

After that completly unnessecary ramble, here are some cute suggestions I would love to have fics about:

-a classic "what I draw on my skin, appears on mine, too" soulmate AU

Fits them both perfectly, they would have been in contact since they were small but can't meet each other because Mikey's a mutant.

-painsharing between soulmates AU

Mikey's dangerous lifestyle as a TMNT would lead to a lot hurts that Miles has to suffer, too. Yay! Angsty, I guess. Miles would worry a lot about his soulmate in this one. (Maybe, it would even work better if it's a Raised By Draxum AU)

-This isn't really a seperate soulmate AU trope but the return of Mystic Miles.

So, because soulmates share oftentimes literally in these AUs souls and we say that Mikey's mystic come from his soul, would that mean Miles would be just as mystically talented as Mikey? Like, in this case, it's not only Hamato ninpō Miles would get but like all of Mikey's mystic badassery.

Fun angsty twist to the whole thing: When Future!Miles dies in the bad timeline, Mikey gets stronger in mystics because he now has all of his mystic potential for himself. Yayyyy

So yeah, shellshocked soulmate AU, my dudes. Fun stuff.

pain sharing soulmates 🫣

this one can't be explained in just a snippet so.

okay painsharing has been done a few times with soulmates so i wanted to tweak it a little and just mess around with the concept. so instead of sharing the physical sensation, i wanted to make them experience a more consistent pain based on the physical distance between soulmates.

obviously you can see how this would be an issue since maxiel were born on very opposite ends of the world and both have to travel a lot for yk. their jobs.

i haven't fully worked through it yet besides some general ideation and such, but was also thinking of making one of them hyper-sensitive to the pain and the other very blind to it. for angst reasons.

According to the thousands of historical records on the subject, the phenomenon could be dated back to the same period as the dawn of humanity.  In 1951, when it could still be found in roughly 8.7% of the world’s population, the World Health Organization dubbed it NSPD—Neurologically Shared Pain Disorder. No treatment options.  In 1980, when NSPD could be found in roughly 7.5% of the world’s population, the DSM-III was released. It featured new sections on gender dysphoria within children and renamed the extremely controversial “ego-dystonic homosexuality” with a tamer sounding but equally controversial “sexual orientation disturbance.” If one turned the pages of the DSM-III even further, they would chance upon a section dedicated solely to NSPD. As far as the public would know, Nico Rosberg would remain the only Formula 1 racer with this condition until 2022.  In February of 2021, when DRPR could be found in roughly 3.3% of the world’s population and several months before Max Verstappen would win his first Formula 1 world championship, a legal case would be brought before court regarding the prescription and usage of Aphairo on patients with DRPR. One of the 1,387 pieces of evidence collected was made by Winona Flemming, a 27 year old woman, who testified that her medication had not only vastly dulled her perception of DRPR-related pain, but it had permanently damaged her ability to determine the distance between herself and the person she was linked to. 283 other people, varying in age, race, and gender, would claim the same over the course of the next month.  Five hours later, when the story would break into the mainstream news cycle, Max Verstappen would email his doctor and ask to make an appointment regarding medication, and then he would dump 42 tablets down his drain. At the same time, Daniel Ricciardo would ring his doctor up, discuss the possibility of trying Aphairo, and then call his mother. 

this was thrown together pretty quickly a few days ago so i have no idea whether or not my ideas will change. for now here you go.

Ohhhh you could do so many cool things with a vex!Scar interpretation of hunger au. There really is something to be said about scarian sharing their respective hungers together. Something something the intimate act of feasting together something something food as both love and a weapon something something the raw animal will to survive something something understanding someone down to their most basic, unfiltered core. December 2024 General Update Post: Break Recap and Plans for 2025

I said I was going to take a fanfic break back in September and I was expecting it to be two weeks, maybe a month max, but instead it was like 4 months. I started a new job that I was expecting to kick my ass but nope. It was a class. I was consumed like I have never been consumed before.

Other stuff happened too and I was kind of going through it but I survived so it's fanfic time again.

I decided to end my break about halfway through December and immediately wrote two Creature Commandos fics:

Artificial Souls Don't Make Artificial Families is a platonic soulfamily AU oneshot where soulmarks appear on first touch with your soulmates. It's mostly Rick freaking out that he's soulmates with a bunch of monsters.

Artificial Souls Still Feel Pain is a queerplatonic polyamorous soulmate AU twoshot with the pain sharing soulmate trope. The first chapter shows Rick through the years feeling the Commandos' pain, with some focus on their mutations/transformations, and the second chapter is more Rick freaking out that he's soulmates with a bunch of monsters.

These will probably be posted this week. They’re all edited and everything. I just want to wait until the good posting hours but I have been sleeping through them unfortunately.

The painsharing fic idea came from my IRL friend who was originally a client of mine then I very unprofessionally became friends with and turns out she'd read one of my fics before meeting me. Crazy coincidence.

Anyway, she's got my DC obsession going again so expect more DC fics maybe but I lost motivation for the two I was working on (a wingfic AU and a SuperLantern thing)

My other WIPS are the stepdad Magneto adoption fic and that monster au Submas fic that I've talked a little about but haven't posted.

He Died Loving You (stepdad Magneto fic) has one arc written that needs editing and two more outlined. Someone wrote a fic of the fic which gave me some inspo for more family-oriented stuff so look forward to that.

Idk what's going on with my Pokemon one. Love the idea but I started writing it like a year and a half ago and it's barely started. Might just be one of those ones I work on forever because it'll probably end up being a long one.

The Masking series is being moved out of my WIP folder. I know people would like to see more but I am feeling unmotivated about the ideas I was excited for, and I know the stuff I wanted to write wasn't the stuff people were really interested in seeing. A sequel/seeing Zoroark Ingo back in the modern world just isn't interesting to me.

I have a folder that just has loose ideas/outlines that I always think I'm going to write immediately but I know I'm not going to. Lmk if you're interested in any of these and that might motivate me to write them but otherwise they're getting tossed into the old idea bin:

Dreaming of Sunshine fic where Shikako and Sasuke escort the film crew from the Land of Snow movie to the Land of Rain to film the Utterly Gusty Ninja movie and instead find Pein (it is a real plot point in DOS that they never got to)

HalBarry fic where Hal thinks someone is impersonating the Flash on dating apps so he schedules a date with them but actually Barry just likes eating with people. Obviously turns into real dating lol

Submas fic in a world without Pokemon where Emmet becomes a Pokemon TCG player or streamer or something after Ingo disappears but Ingo is 100% convinced he got isekai'd to the Pokemon world when he comes back so Emmet has to give up Pokemon because he believes all his pokemon stuff is harming his brother's recovery

Submas fic where Ingo is an opera singer. That's it basically.

X-Men 97 fic about Morph deciding to use his real face because reasons

My long term hiatused things:

MCU/Miraculous crossover after the Snap. I wrote the beginning and outlined the rest of it but lost motivation. Not posted.

Young Justice/Naruto crossover focused on a Green Lantern Sai. I started working on it since 2019 and it's been restarted so many times. Not posted.

Ben 10/Sanders Sides crossover where the Sides are aliens. Wrote it in 2020 and lost motivation to keep updating.

My current abandoned fics are a Ben 10 Halloween fic also from 2019 and a TMNT fic from 2018. Pretty good record in my opinion.

My 2025 goals are to keep working on the stepdad Magneto adoption fic, ideally writing those next two arcs, and making progress on that Submas monster au. Maybe also do more oneshots? I always make plans at the beginning of the year and don't stick to them. I want to chase my whims more and not have bigger WIPs so I don't stop myself from writing when an idea hits and I am ready to obsess.

But Never You by secygaybxtch -- THIS FIC, it's made me cry too many times to count and definitely deserves it's spot as No.1 -- A magic reveal fic

Ship Of Theseus by theandrogynousdragon -- I have been emotionally damaged by this fic, quite severely might I add. I've read it at least 15 times. The way immortality and their take on time travel is portrayed is simply beautiful. A fandom must-read.

The Servant or the Wife? by diabeetus -- Just hilarious, inspired by that one post on here ya 2010ers know

do you write smut? if so, what kind? i do write smut! in fact one of the fics i might (???) actually publish if i finish it (and looking like i will) is like . some percent smut. as for what kind, well, i live by the tenet that smut is ideally also a character study. the 2k of blowjob IS in fact a necessary part to the media analysis. any smut i write is probably gonna have something to say about the characters. also i excel at writing Bad Sex That Sucks So Much And Feels Painful To Read. these two things are connected more profoundly than you think. (also my wip that i might publish is svsss cumplane i think that tells enough)

have you ever had a fic stolen? nope! i've disowned fics that i don't care about anymore though so someone might've taken a concept since i basically put a free for all in the last chapters of all of them idk

what’s a wip that you want to finish but don’t think you ever will? in my wips there is a svsss-inspired bnha au. it’s a banger concept and i have a lot of ideas for it but honestly i am just not invested enough in Making It Happen, so it’ll probably stay in the wips forever. there’s also a good bunch of throwaway fic concepts i’ve had that are cool in theory but i’ll never probably write, but game of self-preservation is the only one i actually started plotting out and writing that i fully do not think i will ever do anything with further. open to talking about it but i just really won't write that thang

what are your writing strengths? i like to think i’m good at balancing crangst a lot. i’m physically incapable of not making things at least a little funny, and i love making blorbos suffer, so this gives me like… mad tragicomedy skills? also i'm pedantic about having plot threads followed up on and the ending being satisfying, so i Try! also i am, for reasons i cannot possibly explain, really good at writing weed fic. the person who knows what im talking about Knows Why and it stays in the grave.

what are your writing weaknesses? Actually Finishing Things, and Actually Hitting Post. those two are related. i have can't focus on one project for too long disease, and i’d feel guilty posting fics i might not come back to just out there, especially since i write non-linearly, so. yeah.

what are your thoughts on writing dialogue in other languages in a fic? i think it’s cool as fuck more writers should use languages nyehehehehehehe. i kinda do it when writing danmei fics because untranslatable terms are fully undodgeable in that one, so.. can't say i've ever complained

what’s a fandom/ship you haven’t written for yet but want to? strangely, for all my actual years long love-hate relationship with it and also my love for felis, i haven’t… written any actual substantial asterisk war fic. i do want to one day i just have uhm. what’s your favourite fic you’ve written? and, there’s the question i knew immediately how to answer. where the dog lies is a [tgaa] time travel/massive canon divergence fic, and as much as i’m not tgaabrained right now, i know i will come back to writing it, because it’s genuinely my magnum opus, my best fucking work ever. talking about it as a time travel is true but feels a bit reductive, because in the time travel concept is a hidden character analysis/recovery fic that i’ve legit cried about leaning over the keyboard. something that can be so deeply personal. like i WILL finish it one day once i fall back into the tgaa hole it’s my favourite thing ever that i’ve made as a creative.

Second and last chapter of the painsharing soulmate AU has been posted!

Really like the idea of the Creature Commandos being friends before being assigned to Task Force M and just having a united front against Rick and Rick not really knowing what to do about it. But it's even funnier for them to have a pre-established dynamic and still just not like each other very much.

Anyway, this led to me hyperfixating and writing about 20K in three days for two different fics. Both are soulmate AUs, the first purely platonic and the second one up to interpretation.

This first one uses the soulmark at first contact trope. Plays with that idea of having an established dynamic but still not liking each other. They have to learn to be a family!

This second one uses the shared pain trope, which really means something when the majority of the group was mutated against their will.

Pain, sudden yet muffled, paints its way across his right shoulder and down the back of his throat. The tips of his fingers and the skin of his knees curl on the edge of oversensitive, and Izuku doesn't know where any of it came from.

It isn't until the throbbing in his shoulder squeezes, taking itself from an amalgamous ache to a more distinct shape that he jolts with a gasp and things start to connect for him.

"Midoriya, is there something you'd like to share with the class?" His teacher's voice breaks through the revelation, flat and sardonic. Izuku is too caught up in his head to notice, mind churning a mile a minute as he begins to fit together a picture.

"I think… I think I just got a soulbond." He says, eyes wide as his hand drifts up to his shoulder. He brushes against the ache, trying to push the phantom sensation of nails digging into his flesh away, but there's no hand there and the pressure stays.

-Or- Izuku and Eri are soulmates and share each other's pain. At least, that's how it's supposed to work. Izuku finds he isn't too keen on sharing in this case, and would much prefer to take it all himself.

There was simply no correlation between her quirk use and the phantom pain that sometimes decorated her, like the colored parts on an old apple. But the solution created a new problem.
