GG: oh no what happened that was so terrible?
AT: i'D PREFER,
AT: tHAT THE THING i WANT TO TALK TO YOU ABOUT NOT TURN INTO THAT TOPIC,

GG: permission for what?
AT: tO COMMUNE WITH YOUR LUSUS,
GG: with bec?
GG: uh....
GG: what do you mean by commune?
GG: and
GG: what do you mean the first time!
GG: you did it before?
AT: yEAH,
AT: iT MEANS TO TALK TO HIM, aND, sUGGEST HE DO SOMETHING WHICH IS GOOD,
AT: fOR HIM, aND ALSO FOR PEOPLE HE LIKES,
GG: ohhh
GG: like a psychic power??
AT: yES,
GG: pretty sweet!
GG: when did you do it before?
AT: oH, vERY RECENTLY, pERSONALLY SPEAKING,
AT: bUT FOR YOU IT WAS VERY LONG AGO,
AT: aND, iT WAS A REALLY GOOD EXAMPLE i THINK,
AT: oF EXACTLY WHY WIGGLERS SHOULD NOT BE ALLOWED TO DUAL WIELD FLINTLOCK PISTOLS,
GG: hehe what?
AT: sO, i DID THE LIBERTY OF COMMUNING WITH YOUR LUSUS,
AT: wHICH i HOPE WASN'T OUT OF LINE,
AT: bUT LIKE i SAID, yOU WERE UNAVAILABLE,
AT: uHHH,
AT: bY WHICH i MEAN, uNAVAILABLY SMALL,
AT: sO THEN i COMMUNED HIM TO USE HIS AMAZING POWERS, tO,
AT: iNTERVENE,
AT: aND REROUTE THE PROJECTILE AWAY FROM THE PATH THAT WOULD HAVE HARMED YOU,
AT: aND ALSO,
AT: aS A WONDERFUL BONUS AND COINCIDENCE,
AT: iT HAPPENED THERE WAS A FELON ON YOUR PROPERTY,
AT: iT WAS i THINK SURELY AN AGING ROGUE WHO WAS VERY MUCH KEEN ON INTRUDING BETWEEN YOUR REALLY NICE LOOKING FAMILY,
AT: aND AS FORTUNE WOULD HAVE IT,
AT: tHE SMALL MISSILE WAS REDIRECTED INTO THE SENIOR INTERLOPER'S CHEST,
AT: aND HE DIED,
AT: }:)
GG: omg......
GG: that wasnt a senior interloper, im pretty sure youre talking about my grandpa!!!
AT: oH,
GG: and if im interpreting correctly....
GG: youre saying you used bec to make me shoot him???
GG: augh thats so awful!
AT: uHH,
AT: wHAT'S,
AT: a GRANDPA,
GG: oh boy
GG: ok it is basically an old man, who serves the same role as i guess a lusus does on your planet?
GG: he was like my dad, he took care of me!
AT: wHOA,
AT: tHAT IS A REALLY WEIRD CULTURAL THING, i GUESS,
GG: sigh...
AT: sORRY THEN,
AT: aBOUT,
AT: mY CULTURAL IGNORANCE,
GG: well im not blaming you or anything
GG: it sounds like you were just trying to help
GG: and you did save my life
GG: but......
GG: i mean jeeeez
GG: talk about a misunderstanding
AT: wELL,
AT: nOW i FEEL VERY STUPID,
AT: bUT,
AT: i DON'T THINK i WILL GIVE INTO BAD SELF ESTEEM THIS TIME ABOUT THIS,
AT: iT'S IMPORTANT TO STAY CONFIDENT ABOUT STUFF, DON'T YOU AGREE,
GG: uh
GG: sure?
AT: aND i THINK THIS IS A GOOD OPPORTUNITY FOR US TO BOND, aND BECOME CLOSER IN AN EMOTIONAL WAY,
AT: pROBABLY,
GG: .... it is?
AT: oH YES, sEE THE FUNNY THING IS, i ALSO KILLED MY LUSUS BY ACCIDENT,
AT: i MEAN, mY LUSUS THAT WAS A LITTLE FAIRY BULL, nOT AN OLD MAN WITH A HUGE GUN,
GG: oh nooo
GG: how did that happen?
AT: i MURDERED HIM INAPPROPRIATELY WITH A FOUR WHEEL DEVICE,
GG: :|
GG: ummm what kind of device?
AT: lIKE, tHE KIND BASICALLY FOR CRIPPLES TO SIT IN, aND ROLL AROUND,
GG: oh you mean a wheelchair!
AT: i GUESS, tHAT'S A WAY TO CALL IT,
GG: how...
GG: did that happen?
AT: wELL,
AT: i WAS SITTING IN IT, bEING CRIPPLED LIKE USUAL,
AT: aND HE GOT UNDER THE WHEEL IN HIS NAP,
GG: D:
GG: im so sorry
GG: um also
GG: i didnt realize you were paralyzed
GG: not that im saying sorry for that! that would be rude i think
GG: i am just saying sorry for your loss
AT: oH, iT'S OKAY, oN BOTH THINGS,
AT: hE CAME BACK TO LIFE FOR A WHILE, aND COULD TALK, AND THAT WAS FUN,
AT: aND ALSO,
AT: i'M NOT PARALYZED ANYMORE, }:)
GG: oh?
AT: nO, i HAVE ROBOT LEGS, aND i FEEL GREAT, aND i CAN WALK,
GG: wow nice!
AT: oH YES, iT IS TRULY NICE,
AT: i AM A NEW AND DIFFERENT GUY, mOSTLY,
AT: bEING NOT PHYSICALLY HANDICAPPED IS MOST CERTAINLY THE KEY TO HAVING HIGH SELF ESTEEM,
GG: um
GG: that.....
GG: i dont know if i agree with that!
AT: oH ABSOLUTELY, tAKE IT FROM ME AS WHAT FACT IS TRUE,
AT: aND NOW, i FEEL EMBOLDENED TO DO BOLD THINGS THAT HEROES SHOULD DO,
AT: lIKE, sAVE THE LIFE OF A PRETTY GIRL, AND KILL THE FIENDISH OLD MAN, wHO,
AT: wHOOPS, wASN'T FIENDISH, aND YOU LOVED HIM, sORRY,
GG: well
GG: thats good i guess
GG: i just wish...
GG: maybe you'd told me what happened when i was younger?
GG: i spent years wondering about it!
GG: when i was REALLY young, i was sure the doll sitting across from him did it
GG: and for a long time i was terrified of the evil blue girl!!!
GG: she sort of haunted my childhood and i had trouble sleeping for a long time
GG: but of course i got older and realized that was silly, but then i just speculated that maybe it was suicide
GG: which was just a really sad thing to think about!!!
AT: wOW, yEAH,
AT: i,
AT: tOTALLY BLEW THAT THEN,
AT: i GUESS i COULD STILL TELL YOU ABOUT IT IN YOUR PAST,
GG: buuuut...
GG: even if you do, i dont remember you doing so!
AT: oH,
AT: tHEN i GUESS I WON'T,
GG: er
GG: ok :\
AT: bUT YEAH, iRREGARDLESS,
AT: tHIS IS LIKELY TO BE EXACTLY THE KIND OF THING NOT TO STAND IN THE WAY ABOUT GOOD FEELINGS ABOUT MYSELF,
GG: .......
AT: i MEAN, i SAW THAT YOUR LUSUS SAVED YOU ANYWAY, iN ADVANCE,
AT: aND,
AT: i JUST WANTED,
AT: tO MAKE IT POSSIBLE SO THAT i WAS THE ONE INVOLVED WITH BEING THE HERO THERE,
AT: tO SAVE YOU,
AT: lIKE, tO PUT MYSELF IN YOUR STORY, iN A BRAVE CAPACITY, bECAUSE,
AT: tHAT'S WHAT FEELING GOOD AND POSITIVE ABOUT YOURSELF IS ALL ABOUT,
GG: woooooow...
GG: you sound really confused to me!
AT: aBSOLUTELY, i AM CONFUSED LIKE A FOX,
AT: tHE KIND THAT HAS HIGH SELF ESTEEM,
GG: heheheh
GG: youre incredibly silly
GG: i cant really tell to what extent youre joking around here!
AT: i UNDERSTAND THAT, aND JOKES HAPPEN, yES,
AT: bUT FEELING GREAT ABOUT YOURSELF IS NOT A JOKING ISSUE,
AT: iT IS HEAVY DUTY BUSINESS, aND NEEDS TO BE GIVEN ALL THE SERIOUSNESS THAT SAD THINGS GET,
AT: i'VE LEARNED THAT, fROM MY FRIENDS, AND ALSO, FROM RUFIO,
GG: rufio?
AT: yES, hE'S A FAKE,
GG: what do you mean fake?
AT: a FAKE GUY i MADE UP IMAGINARILY,
AT: hE NEVER STOPS BEING A THING THAT'S NOT REAL,
GG: ohh like an imaginary friend....
GG: heh, ok
AT: i'M PRETENDING THAT BEING FULLY HONEST ABOUT RUFIO'S FAKENESS, AND,
AT: bEING UP FRONT ABOUT HIS GENERAL FRAUDULENCE, tHAT IT WILL ONLY GIVE ME EXTRA CONFIDENCE,
AT: i'M PRETENDING THAT AS HARD AS i CAN, iN THE MOST CONFIDENT WAY,
AT: wHICH MAKES IT PARTIALLY MORE TRUE,
GG: that
GG: sure is a philosophy you have there!
AT: yES, bEING CONFIDENT IS ALWAYS ABOUT SAYING AND DOING THE THINGS YOU FEEL,
AT: eVEN IF THE AFRAID PART OF YOU SAYS, nO, pLEASE DON'T DO THAT,
AT: lIKE, uHHHHHHH,
AT: hERE IS A THING i'M AFRAID TO SAY TO YOU, jADE,
AT: bUT,
AT: i'M TOO CONFIDENT NOW TO LET MY AFRAIDNESS MAKE ME FEEL TERRIBLE,
GG: oh??
GG: well, what is it?
AT: rEMEMBER, i TALKED TO YOU A LOT WHEN YOU WERE SLEEPING,
GG: yes
AT: uHH, aND,
AT: wE TALKED ABOUT LOTS OF THINGS, aND WE HAD SOME THINGS IN COMMON, aND IT WAS NICE,
GG: sure!
AT: aND i THINK CONSEQUENTLY, tHE EMOTIONAL RESULT IS PROBABLY,
AT: tHAT MAYBE i HAVE SOME POSSIBLE RED FEELINGS FOR YOU,
GG: red feelings?
GG: you mean
GG: whoooooaaaaaa
GG: wait
GG: really? :o
AT: wOW, tHAT SURE WAS A HARD THING TO SAY AND MADE ME INCREDIBLY NERVOUS,
AT: bUT i SAID IT BECAUSE OF MY REMARKABLE LEG-POWERED SELF CONFIDENCE,
AT: aND NOW i THINK ALL THAT'S LEFT IS DEFINITELY YOUR RECIPROCATION ABOUT THAT, pROBABLY,
GG: um.................
GG: well
GG: i dont think i can reciprocate!
AT: uH OH,
GG: i mean
GG: youre nice
GG: but i dont really know you...
GG: i dont even know your name!
AT: oH GOSH, hOW STUPID CAN i BE,
AT: i FORGOT TO SAY,
AT: i'M TAVROS,
GG: ok tavros
GG: i dont know if youve fully thought about this!
GG: you dont actually know me very well either
AT: oH YES, i SURELY DO,
AT: bECAUSE WE HAD A NUMBER OF SPIRITED CONVERSATIONS, wHEREIN YOU WERE VERY NICE AND PLEASED TO SPEAK WITH ME,
AT: dID,
AT: i MISINTERPRET THAT, wAS IT NOT ACTUALLY NICENESS,
GG: well no
GG: i was being nice
GG: because
GG: i like to be nice to people when i can, and when they are nice to me
GG: but......
GG: things are a little more complicated than that, you cant know someone just by a few conversations!
GG: i mean, i only talked to you when i was asleep! i am kind of different when im dreaming...
GG: i forget things, and at times im not totally sure whats real
GG: dont you remember thats what its like to dream on prospit?
AT: uH,
AT: kIND OF,
GG: sorry, i feel bad about having to disappoint you...
GG: but i dont know what else to say
AT: bUT WHAT ABOUT,
AT: mY ATTRACTIVE BRAVADO,
AT: aND IGNORING MY INSTINCTUAL COWARDICE HARD ENOUGH TO SAY THAT i LIKE YOU,
AT: iSN'T THAT,
AT: sUPPOSED TO BE VERY ATTRACTIVE, aND ENCOURAGE THE MAJOR HAVING OF FLUSHED FEELINGS IN OTHERS,
AT: i GUESS WHAT i MEAN IS, wHAT ABOUT ALL MY CONFIDENCE,
AT: wHAT DO YOU THINK ABOUT THAT,
GG: jeeeeeez, um...
GG: tavros i am really flattered you like me and all
GG: and that sure is confident of you to say so! and thats great buuuut...
GG: i guess confidence is one thing but there is such a thing as being toooo forward i guess?
AT: wOW,
AT: oK,
GG: i aaaalso think...
GG: and really this is just polite friendly advice!
GG: that if youre really confident you dont always have to say it all the time
GG: it...
GG: oh man im sorry to say
GG: it just comes of as a little insecure and off putting and kind of defeats the purpose!
GG: and all things considered i think we should just stay friends
GG: or really........
GG: continue building a friendship in the first place, since like i said we dont actually know each other that well!
AT: yEAH,
AT: uUUUUUUHHH,
GG: sorry :C
AT: nO, nO, iF i'M BEING REALISTIC i THINK THAT'S WHAT'S REASONABLE TO SAY TO ME,
AT: aND i'LL WORK ON TONING DOWN MY SELF RESPECT A LITTLE,
GG: aaaah no! you should have self respect
GG: just...
GG: oh boy this is frustrating
GG: can we talk about this later?
GG: i have some things to do!
GG: why dont we get back to the original point
GG: why do you want to commune with bec again?
AT: yES, oF COURSE,
AT: i WANTED TO GET APPROVAL FROM YOU, tO COMMUNE HIM AGAIN,
AT: nOW THAT HE'S A SPRITE,
AT: tO PERPETRATE ONE OF MY HEROIC IDEAS AGAIN,
GG: uh-ohhh
GG: what is your idea this time?
AT: i WILL SUGGEST TO HIM THAT HE ATTACK YOUR ADVERSARY,
AT: aS WELL AS OURS,
AT: aND MAYBE BEAT HIM, tO SOLVE EVERYBODY'S PROBLEMS,
GG: wow, i dunno about that!
AT: bUT i HAVE GREAT SKILL IN COMMANDING BEASTS TO GLORY IN BATTLE,
AT: aND YOURS IS SURELY THE STRONGEST BEAST I'VE SEEN!
GG: but hes my best friend!!!
GG: and you have already managed to get one of my family members killed
AT: bUT ACCORDING TO MY SELF CONFIDENCE, i THINK i'M PRETTY SURE i CAN USE HIS POWER TO BE SUCCESSFUL,
AT: wHOOPS, PRETEND i DIDN'T MENTION MY SELF CONFIDENCE, oR SAY ANYTHING OFF PUTTING,
GG: but all of our adversaries have inherited his powers!
GG: i would imagine the strongest guy would have all of his powers, and then some!!!
GG: i am really not comfortable with this
AT: oH,
GG: you said you are asking me permission first and i appreciate that
GG: but if you are asking im afraid my answer is no!
AT: oKAY, i RESPECT THAT,
AT: bUT, i WONDER,
GG: what?
AT: i WONDER IF A TRULY SELF CONFIDENT GUY, wITH THE BEST SELF ESTEEM THERE IS, wOULD EVEN NEED TO ASK,
AT: mAYBE THE BEST GUY WOULD JUST KNOW HE WOULD BE SUCCESSFUL, aND WOULD DO IT ANYWAY BECAUSE IT IS FOR YOUR OWN GOOD, aND EVERYONE ELSE'S,
GG: no way!
GG: that would be smug and arrogant and would make you a bully!!!
GG: later if my friends and i want to ask bec for help and decide thats our best hope, then thats our business
GG: until then, just please stop meddling!!!!!!
AT: wOW, oK,
AT: yOU'RE RIGHT ABOUT ALL THAT, i'LL RESPECT YOUR WISHES,
AT: oR,
AT: wILL i? };)
GG: nooooooooo dont dont dont dont dont
GG: im serious
GG: uuuuggghh i think my headache is coming back
AT: i WAS jUST,
AT: mAKING A JOKE,
AT: sORRY, }:(
AT: i GUESS US BECOMING A FRIENDSHIP DOESN'T HAVE TO HAPPEN NOW,
GG: no...
GG: its fine
GG: i just really dont want you to do that ok?
AT: yEAH,
GG: i have to go now
GG: bye tavros

AG: Aaaaaaaahahahahahahahaha!
AG: HAHAHAHAHAHAHAHA!!!!!!!!
AG: Oh my god, I cannot 8elieve how hilariously pathetic that whole exchange was.
AG: Even 8y your wretched standards, Toreadork!
AG: Hahahahahahahaha, oh god I can't 8reathe!!!!!!!!
AG: A8solutely priceless. XXXXD
AT: hEY, vRISKA,
AT: tHAT WAS SUPPOSED TO BE A PRIVATE CORRESPONDENCE, oF A PERSONAL NATURE,
AT: hOW COULD YOU EVEN BE READING THAT,
AG: Pff. Tavros, sometimes your stupidity surprises even me.
AG: Next time you decide to open your heart to an alien girl........
AG: Make sure her chat client isn't 8eing holographically projected for all to see, ok?
AT: uH,
AT: wHOOOPS,
AG: It was so em8arrassing just reading that Tavros. I'm em8arrassed!
AG: I am actually feeling genuine em8arrassment. Your o8scene incompetence is actually polluting my otherwise pristine composure. Nice going!
AT: sO,
AT: i DON'T CARE,
AG: Jade let you down too easy. She's too nice! Someone's got to tear into you for that appalling display, and once again, guess who's shoulders that falls on?
AG: That's right. Vriska's, as usual.
AT: i THINK SHE HAS THE RIGHT AMOUNT OF NICENESS, pERSONALLY,
AT: aN AMOUNT THAT IS SOME, iNSTEAD OF,
AT: nONE,
AG: Hey, I'm nice when it matters, and where it doesn't strangul8te the critical development of people I give a shit a8out, ok?
AG: Really I don't know what you see in her. She is completely useless, like you.
AG: W8, of course!!!!!!!! It makes perfect sense. You and she represent the ideal matespritship, how could I have 8een so 8lind!
AG: Two perfectly pointless gru8s in a bucket.
AT: nO, i HAVE TOO MUCH SELF CONFIDENCE NOW TO BE UPSET BY YOUR SCANDALOUS IMAGERY,
AT: i DON'T THINK SHE IS USELESS,
AT: aND i DON'T THINK i AM EITHER,
AT: bECAUSE OF NEW SELF ESTEEMS OBTAINED, rEMEMBER,
AG: Oh will you please stop going on a8out your fucking self esteem.
AG: I will say this much a8out her, she was right a8out that. How insuffera8le can you get, prattling on and on a8out how confident you are.
AG: Tavros, you give confidence a 8ad name. I gave you all the chances in the world to earn it, to earn REAL confidence, and you failed.
AG: You couldn't even do the one little thing I asked you to! The one thing that would have made you man up once and for all.
AG: So instead you flew away and cried, and decided to sleep away your sorrow for the rest of the adventure.
AG: Do you have any idea how sick that made me? Everything a8out you makes me sick.
AG: When you talk a8out your self confidence, I throw up a little. You don't know what confidence is. Ro8o-legs don't give you confidence, that 8n't no more true than saying my ro8o-arm gave me mine. See what I mean?
AG: Your confidence is faker than even the great Rufio himself, Lord of the Unreal. It's pure fiction, a false fakey fraudy con jo8 from a wimpy loser charlatan 8ullshit artist.
AG: It's shallow and nause8ting, just like you. Do us all a favor and SHUT UP a8out it.
AT: oK, i THINK,
AT: tHIS IS ACTUALLY MAKING ME PRETTY MAD,
AG: Yeah right!!!!!!!!
AG: I'll 8elieve that when I see it, chump.
AT: i DON'T WANT YOU TO MOCK ME ANYMORE,
AT: i DON'T KNOW IF MY CONFIDENCE IS REAL, oR WHAT,
AT: bUT i WOULD LIKE YOU TO STOP SAYING STUFF LIKE THAT TO ME,
AT: aND TO STOP SAYING BAD THINGS ABOUT MY FRIEND JADE, tOO,
AG: Jade is an idiot.
AG: A useless, 8oring no8ody. What has she done for her party other than fuck up every step of the way? What does she ever do 8ut take naps and get in trou8le?
AG: She's awful, and you deserve each other. Oh w8, except she h8tes you!!!!!!!! Ahahahahahahahaha. Even the 8oring pointless girl h8s you, talk a8out a guy who can't get a 8r8k.
AG: Though I guess she's not compleeeeeeeetely useless. ::::)
AT: wHAT DO YOU MEAN BY THAT,
AG: Ok, Tavros, I gave her credit for something, so I'll give you credit for something too.
AG: Your plan to control her lusus really wasn't a 8ad idea!
AG: And using your a8ility to "save her life" (lol) was a pretty good way to test how effective your powers are across sessions.
AG: Pretty good way to practice, to know where you stand!
AG: Practicing your a8ilities is important, so when it comes down to using them for something that really matters, you know you're ready for prime time.
AG: I know this first hand.
AG: I got lots and lots and LOTS of practice with your little guinea pig friend. ::::D
AG: So really, turns out she wasn't so useless at all! Far from it.
AT: wHOA, wHAT,
AT: aRE YOU SAYING YOU DID TO HER,
AG: Not really the point!
AG: The point is I'm trying to pay you a compliment.
AG: At this point, you are so sad and disgusting, you should treat anything nice anyone has to say a8out you like a chest full of shimmering 8oon8ucks.
AT: oKAAAY, gOD,
AT: wHAT,
AG: Like I said! Your plan was solid.
AG: Controlling the guardian to go after Jack was a fine idea. Sure would stir some shit up! 8etter than 8eing an insignificant stuttering piece of trash all the time, I say.
AG: And you were definitely on to something a8out doing it "irregardless" (lol) of her wishes.
AG: 8ecause it's for her own good! That's what winners do. They do what is right for someone they care a8out even if the other person does nothing 8ut 8itch and moan and act ungr8ful a8out it. 8etter you learned l8 than never.
AG: In fact, I would go as far as saying that if you went ahead with her plan against her wishes, it MIGHT just earn you a smidgen of respect from me.
AG: We'll see.
AG: There's really just one catch.
AT: oH,
AT: wHAT'S THAT,
AG: The catch is it's not going to work!
AT: wHAT ISN'T,
AG: Are you even listening to me? Man, clear the Rufio wax out of your ears.
AG: You couldn't sic the guardian on Noir even if you were inclined. Not even if I were to MAKE you inclined! :::;)
AT: uHH,
AT: wHY,
AG: 8ecause you are dealing with a pro here. I already thought of that.
AG: I thought of everything!
AG: The guardian is not going to attack the agents who engineered him in the first place.
AG: Or who I should say were "encouraged" (lol) to engineer him.
AG: I was striking a mutually 8eneficial arrangement! This is often the most effective way to manipul8 others.
AG: I just sort of gave them an idea. Nudged them along in the direction of seizing more power, which they wanted to do anyway.
AG: Remem8er, I already have a lot of experience getting these simple minded agents to march to my drum 8eat.
AG: I was exiling them left and right in our session! I'm an expert at this 8y now.
AT: wHY WOULD YOU DO THAT,
AG: Tavros, at this point it should 8e o8vious.
AG: I am the unseen hand 8ehind every major event in their session, and to some extent, their whole lives.
AG: At least those events not happening 8y the volition of their own natural incompetence!
AG: Don't you think this is how it should 8e? Shouldn't the greatest player leave her fingerprints on every step of the rise to power of her ultim8 nemesis?
AT: wOW, nO, tHAT'S,
AT: i DON'T EVEN KNOW HOW TO SAY ALL THE WAYS i THINK THAT IS CRAZY,
AG: 8ut you must agree, 8ecause you were copycatting my idea.
AT: nO i WASN'T,
AG: You were 8razenly inserting yourself into Jade's history. The self-insertion plan was my idea, and it's revolting and cowardly for you to deny it.
AT: tHAT WAS, fOR A GOOD THING THOUGH,
AG: Hahahaha, sure. Whatever you say.
AG: It's incredi8ly sad how outclassed you are. It's actually depressing that you thought you could 8eat me at my own game. And then most sickeningly of all, you don't own up it!
AG: I have every angle covered already. The human session is on full Serket lockdown. Any effort you make to disrupt my plans will 8e laugha8le, just like everything you have ever done in your life.
AG: The only thing left to do now is prepare to kill Jack myself, and save everyone's ungrateful asses.
AG: It's a shame you're not strong enough to take him on with me. Too 8ad you spent so long sleeping instead of tur8o-leveling like me.
AG: We might have made a pretty awesome team.
AG: Oh well.
AT: oKAY, tHEN,
AT: aLL OF YOUR USUAL INSULTING THINGS ASIDE, mY TAKE ON THIS IS,
AT: tHAT YOU CREATED OUR IMPOSSIBLY HARD BAD GUY, wHO WANTS TO KILL US,
AT: aND BY ASSOCIATION, i GUESS THAT MAKES,
AT: yOU THE BAD GUY TOO,
AT: iNSTEAD OF A GOOD GUY WHO'S JUST MEAN,
AG: Nice deduction!
AG: Wrong, excruci8tingly linear, and laced with the sort of a8solutes morons like to throw around........
AG: 8ut nice!
AT: aND THAT BEING THE CASE,
AT: eVEN THOUGH i'M TERRIFIED OF YOU,
AT: aND nOT AS STRONG,
AT: oR REAL CONFIDENT,
AT: oNLY MOSTLY FAKE CONFIDENT,
AG: Yeeeeeeees?
AG: Go on.
AT: i THINK,
AT: i AM GOING TO HAVE TO STOP YOU,
AG: Yeah! That's the spirit.
AG: Pretty weakslime threat there, 8ut it's a start.
AG: Tell you what.
AG: If you can find me in this la8, you can have at me.
AG: I'll even give you a free shot! No funny 8usiness or anything.
AT: oK,
AT: tHEN,
AT: hERE i COME,
AG: I'll 8e w8ing. <3

The Archer // Eddie Munson
MASTERLIST
DESCRIPTION: "ℑ𝔱'𝔰 𝔣𝔬𝔯𝔠𝔢𝔡 𝔠𝔬𝔫𝔣𝔬𝔯𝔪𝔦𝔱𝔶. 𝔗𝔥𝔞𝔱'𝔰 𝔴𝔥𝔞𝔱'𝔰 𝔦𝔩𝔩𝔦𝔫𝔤 𝔱𝔥𝔢 𝔨𝔦𝔡𝔰. 𝔗𝔥𝔞𝔱'𝔰 𝔱𝔥𝔢 𝔯𝔢𝔞𝔩 𝔪𝔬𝔫𝔰𝔱𝔢𝔯."
That's what's killing the kids-the forcing of roles and stuffing into boxes. Everyone has a place to go; who is anyone to break out of those predetermined destinies? The popular girl isn't supposed to be friends with the freak-the freak isn't supposed to be in love with the popular girl.
They had been friends since they could talk–Eddie Munson and Heidi Delgado. Inseparable on the playground, never venturing far from one another. That was until social hierarchies became a thing, and people took sides.
When Heidi moved out of Hawkins, Indiana, during the summer between her tenth and eleventh year of high school, no one expected her to return. Once someone leaves Hawkins, they're not supposed to come back. It's a place where there's no need to visit unless you live there. No one wants to spend time in a town where murders run ramped, and everyone has to double-check their locks before bed. So, when former Miss. Popularity returns to Hawkins, missing three-quarters of the family she left with, so it only makes sense people start to talk.
Eddie Munson was just aiming to graduate; he wanted to get the hell out of Hawkins High. He'd already failed to do so twice, but this was his year. 1986, the year Eddie Munson proved them all wrong. Those plans don't exactly pan out when the girl he loved since diapers returns, and darker forces seem to be at play underneath the very soil he calls home.
The freak shouldn't be friends with the popular girl-and the popular girl shouldn't love the freak. Yet, isn't that what makes a love story great?
Follow Eddie and Heidi as they not only navigate through this broken shamble of a friendship but encounter something much darker in the town they call home.

Chapter XIV - My Sharona
Warnings: Mentions of past trauma
Word Count: 3059
Heidi watched at the side as the group of girls she had chosen for the soccer team ran their final lap around the field. It might have been cruel of her to give them seven laps, but this happens when you show up at her house unannounced just to see who made the team. It also gave her time to go over the lesson she’d thrown together for Max at lunch, Robin staring over her shoulder and asking her what the words and phrases on the page meant. If being swamped with work kept Heidi busy, she didn’t mind. It was easier than facing her reality head-on.
It was a tragic song, the lyrics of her life playing in a lower register. The tunes that were sung and melodies played left her broken and weeping, vulnerable to whatever lurked around the corner. It was a constant reminder of what hid behind the garden, the snake that lingered in the tree as she appreciated the blooming flowers. Something was waiting for Heidi, waiting for her to succumb to its wiles and fall into the pit of no return. It wanted her, yearned for her and the pain attached to her heart.
“And that, ladies,” Heidi hollered as the group dropped in front of the bench she sat on, “Is why we don’t bother people on weekends.”
“We’re sorry,” Norah panted as she sprayed her face with water, “We’ll never do it again!”
“Mmhm,” Heidi chuckled as she leaned forward, “I also don’t recommend speaking with Eddie Munson—terrible influence.”
“Aren’t you friends with him?” Danielle insisted, earning a pointed glare from Heidi.
“Eddie and I have been friends since we were in diapers,” the brunette replied. She found a warmth spreading across her cheeks and cleared her throat, ridding the rose petals that tried to choke her, “Anyways—We have practice tomorrow and an exhibition game on Thursday. I’ll be trying some different lines out, so don’t feel bad if you don’t play as much, okay?”
“Gotcha, coach!”
“Thank you, Norah—Now, take everything inside, and you’re all good to go. Gotta meet someone.”
“Eddie?”
“Do you want another lap?”
The girls were quick to part ways with their coach, and a grin of ease replaced her sarcastic scowl. Collecting her own belongings, Heidi wandered out towards the front of campus and glanced down at her watch, groaning as it dawned on her how far she would have to walk. She’d told Max she’d be there a bit later, but still, Heidi detested making people wait for her. Even if the walk toward the trailer park was scenic and enjoyable—it would be at least an hour before she arrived.
Heidi started the trek through hell towards the shore by popping on her headphones and pressing play on her walkman. Music would make the treacherous journey more enjoyable, undoubtedly saving her life from insanity as her feet ached and bones screamed for mercy.
Ooh my little pretty one, pretty one.
When you gonna give me some time, Sharona?
Ooh you make my motor run, my motor run.
Gun it comin' off the line Sharona
Never gonna stop, give it up.
Walking through the streets of Hawkins was still something so surreal to Heidi. The way the sun broke through the trees and freckled the ground like pieces of the stars had fallen from the sky was hauntingly captivating. The entire town was riddled with a mystery—elusiveness hidden between the lines. Perhaps that was the beauty of Hawkins, Indiana, the unknowing being what drew new families in and kept those already here rooted in the grounds. In Hawkins, there never seemed to be too long of a grace period between travesties, always keeping people anxious.
Yet no one seemed to leave; no one wanted to go or actively tried to. Even Heidi fell into the snare of deadly vines of the town. She had managed to escape, to spread her wings and stretch her aching bones into something new—but she wound up right back where she started. Hawkins had sunk its teeth deep into her veins, sucking the life from them and replacing it with the cancerous infestation of disgust that clouded this town’s air.

Eddie and Heidi used to dream of the days when they were far from this hole of a town, running free through empty city streets after he played at another dive bar with his band. They used to toss around the idea of finding a cheap apartment in some overpriced city like Chicago or New York and living paycheque to paycheque, becoming prisoners to the system they hated. At the same time, Heidi thought about falling back into her musical talents.
It seemed ridiculous, leaving Hawkins with Eddie and the rest of Corroded Coffin by her side, all ignorant to the world’s true horrors. It was ludicrous to think that any of them could do it. She knew they’d all wind up back in Hawkins, crashing someone’s house. But the stories they’d have to tell, the tales of their lives, would be immortalized and everlasting. That was the real dream. Heidi couldn’t stop her mind from falling into those dreams once more.
—
Come a little closer huh, ah will ya huh.
Close enough to look in my eyes, Sharona.
Keeping it a mystery gets to me
Running down the length of my thighs, Sharona
Never gonna stop, give it up. Such a dirty mind.
Heidi strummed along to the music that fizzled from the radio as she sat on Eddie’s bed, the skin on her fingers raw from strumming the guitar. Eddie was in the shower, washing away the night before as the various beer cans and empty bottles littered his bedroom floor. Heidi had warned him what would happen if he let the entire crew come to his place—but he insisted that his trailer was the perfect hangout outside Gareths. Heidi disagreed, but she couldn’t even think of the last time he had listened to her advice.
The warm air of June slipped through the open window in her best friend’s room, and guilt followed close behind. She was supposed to meet with Aaron in about an hour, but honestly, Heidi was tempted to blow him off again. It was more of a chore than a date for Heidi, mainly because everyone around them would start whispering when they arrived. Isabelle was hosting a barbecue in her backyard, celebrating the girl’s soccer team winning the championship.
Heidi didn’t want to go; she didn’t really like the parties. It felt like a test for her, to see if she was still truly capable of handling the popularity that now plagued her life. These get-togethers were more so to weed out the weakest links and keep the food chain of Hawkins High pristine. What kind of Princess would Heidi be if she missed that?

“You missed a solid three notes,” Eddie’s voice called over the fuzzy noise of The Knack playing from the radio, “C’mon, Heids, you never mess up this song.”
“Pardon me if I’m a little out of it,” Heidi bit back, dropping her fingers from the strings that combined pain and pleasure, “Shouldn’t you be wallowing, too? You kind of just failed high school and like can’t graduate.”
“Just because you’re in a rotten mood doesn’t mean you have to put me in one too, grouchy,” Eddie grumbled, his voice guarded at the low-dig from Heidi. She let out a breathy sigh before twisting her face away as he pulled a shirt over his head, “Seriously though, Heids, what’s got you so fuckin’ pissy?”
When you gonna give it to me, give it to me.
It is just a matter of time Sharona
Is it just destiny, destiny?
Or is it just a game in my mind, Sharona?
“I fuckin’ hate this town, but I don’t wanna leave it at the same time,” she grumbled, pulling the strap of her guitar over her head and leaning it against his wall, “Mostly because when I do leave, I’m not comin’ back. And we had so many plans for after I graduated—”
“That we will still do, even when you move to Denver,” Eddie insisted as he jumped onto the aged mattress. A high-pitched squeak rang from the frame under the bed, and both of the occupants let out worried groans—this would be the third time this week Eddie has broken his bed. The first two? Heidi didn’t want to know how it happened.
“What if you get a new best friend when I’m gone?” As she rolled her head to face the cursing boy, Heidi pouted, “What if you replace me with Jeff?”
“Jeff isn’t hot enough,” he teased, sending the brunette a wink. She was swift with throwing a pillow at his face, and he slapped it away quickly, “I”m kidding!”
Never gonna stop, give it up.

Heidi watched as the sun split through the curtains and covered the older boy’s face with a glowing radiance. Eddie never saw it, the artistry in his features—Heidi always did, though. She would sometimes catch herself admiring the curves of his jaw and the slant of his nose, wondering who had been the angel that sculpted such innocent features. Eddie’s entire existence was a juxtaposition, contradicting himself in every way possible. He had such harmless features, eyes as wide as craters on the moon and lips as plump as peaches. Everything about Heidi entrapped Heidi in a snare of confusion, and she became a fiend early on.
The thin sheen of sweat on his brow left a longing in Heidi’s stomach she couldn’t quite place. Every time she looked at him, her mind fell into the words of the Bible, and she couldn’t help but depict him as an angel. Heidi was far from religious, but when it came to Eddie Munson, she couldn’t help but place him as an angel among men. Even with his devilish grin and sinful tendencies, he was a sheep in wolf clothing. Heidi was an archer, bow loaded and ready to strike, waiting for him to show his true colours. But when he did—she fell into his vice.
“Promise me you won’t replace me with anyone?” Heidi whispered into the hot air.
Ohhhhh My Sharona
Ohhhhh My Sharona
Ohhhhh My Sharona
“So long as you promise the same, Princess.”
“I promise.”
“I know you do.”
—
Heidi wound up at the trailer park around 6 P.M, the burning sun dipping low below the treeline. She slipped her walkman into her back pocket and finished her race towards the end with a knock at Max’s door. She took a step back and waited, glancing over her shoulder at the empty camper that belonged to the Munsons. Heidi had learned that Wayne mostly worked nights at the plant, leaving Eddie to primarily fend for himself. Perhaps that’s why there was scarcely any food in the place last time Heidi was there.
The door swung open, and Max stood on the threshold with wide eyes, staring at Heidi, “Oh, you actually came.”
“Did you think…I wouldn’t?” Heidi questioned, her eyebrows creasing in confusion.
“I try to keep my expectations low.”
“So, you’re a glass half full kind of girl?”
“Was that supposed to be a joke?”
“Yes.”
“Wasn’t funny.”
“Lucas would’ve found it funny.”
“I’m sure he would have.”
Heidi shook her head and dropped her gaze to her feet. Honestly, speaking with Max felt a little too familiar for her liking. The back and forth bickering, the snappy comments and untouched ease of conversation—it felt like she was speaking to a younger sibling. Those cracks in Heidi’s heart that wept with infection froze in their spot, halting the disease that slipped through and plagued her mind. Max scarcely moved from her spot, but when Heidi returned her gaze to the girl, the bright blues of the girl hadn’t faltered either.
That unspoken promise grew stronger between the two the longer they stood near, a vow to be what the other lost. Heidi’s stomach flipped when Max took another step forward, seizing her bag from inside the house before gesturing towards the picnic table nearby. There was something in the trailer that she was hiding—and as strong as this unbreakable pledge now was, despite being so fresh, Heidi knew that was a conversation for another time. So, she followed the girl close behind towards where she wandered, slipping into a seat.
This was where she had breakfast with Eddie the other day.
“So, where are you struggling the most?” Heidi asked, taking hold of the notebook Max offered.
“I’m not struggling.”
Heidi raised her eyebrows in disbelief while leafing through most D-graded papers. Already, the Delgado knew that there was a wall up on Max’s end that would become a problem shortly, both in terms of tutoring and whatever newfound connection they silently agreed upon. Even the way she sat, arms tucked tightly into her body with hands clamped between her legs. Max wasn’t ready to be vulnerable. She was the wolf in sheep’s clothing that kept Heidi on edge—but two could play that game. Heidi kept her arrow knocked, just in case this foundation was to crumble beneath her.
“If you weren’t struggling, I wouldn’t be here.”
Max switched her regard from the table to the dark pools of Heidi’s eyes. A beat of silence filled the space around them as the words hung like bait. Both knew the double meaning behind it, that silent vow pulsing between them as she waited. Even if neither were to say it, admit it, or even do the minimum of acknowledging it—it was there, and it was waiting for the door to open. Heidi had shot the arrow, hoping to strike luck in the flank of Max’s side. A tether was near fruition, and Heidi just needed Max to grab hold of it too.
“Grammar. That’s where I struggle most.”
The door creaked open, and Heidi glimpsed the burning red fire behind it. It was angry and lashing out at everything that came near. Its flames licked at Heidi’s skin as she took her first step forward, pushing through the barrier to where the worst sat. Her weapon of choice sat close to her side, the arrow ready and willing to release if necessary. She wasn’t here to kill or wound—Heidi was stepping into the haunted house of Max Mayfield to tame and heal the abused and starved beast that lay behind that fire. Heidi was the archer waiting to finally bring honour to her name.
“Perfect. We’ll start there.”
—
“I’ll come by Wednesday,” Heidi called as she skipped down the steps of the Mayfield trailer, “Okay? We’ll go over a bit more of the grammar.”
“Are you going to make me hate Spanish?”
“You won’t get far without the basics, Max,” Heidi snorted, resting her hands on her hips, “Wednesday—Same time, got it?”
“Got it.”
Heidi laughed in amusement at Max’s annoyed gruff as she turned back into the camper. She glanced down at her watch and cursed—it was past eight. She had lost track of time with Max, letting the wounds in her heart corrupt her mind and grow attached to the bickering. Heidi had let herself go the last two hours, and this was her price to pay. Whenever she seemed to find footing in the growth of her garden, something always pulled the rug out from beneath her.
Walking alone in Hawkins was dangerous—no matter who you were. There was a lingering understanding of the darkness that crept around the town, the monsters that camped out in the shadows. But Heidi had no choice but to brave the hell ahead of her, despite the curses that might seep into her skin if she did. All because she found someone to play off of, someone to take the place of what she once had before the year 1986. The year started deadly; Heidi didn’t have much else to lose if she flirted with death. So, she toed the line and began her trek down the streets of east Hawkins.
Heidi got about ten minutes down the road before the devil herself pulled up along the side of the road, shining lights flickering across her face. Behind the wheel sat Isabelle Banner, straining to see if it really was the fallen Princess of Hawkins wandering through Hawkins like a lost merchant. Despite her newfound distaste for the addicting hierarchy of Hawkins—it was embarrassing to be spotted in such a position by Isabelle, of all people.
“No one would believe me if I told,” Isabelle called as she popped open the car door, “Heidi Delgado, wandering from Hawkins trailer park at night.”
“I think they’d believe more than you think, Isabelle,” Heidi sighed as she tucked her hands into her pockets, “Especially with my new reputation.”
“The worst they’d say is you were with Munson.”
“If that’s the worst, I think I’ll keep walking.”
“Let me drive you home—please?”
“Why?”
“To apologize.”
Heidi tilted her head to the side at the crack in her voice. She felt like prey being stalked, a lion circling her. She waited in the trees, watching the predator debate whether to climb the tree or not. It was a game now, the dance Heidi and Isabelle played. One waited for the other, and the true apex predator wasn’t known. Isabelle might have been the beast that stalked the bottom of the tree, but Heidi held the bow and arrow. Whoever made the first move didn’t matter; one would end up wounded or dead. Heidi just hoped she’d learned enough to not be the one with the missing heart.
“Alright…Fine. You can drive me home.”
“That took a lot of convincing, eh?”
“It’s cold; I’d take a ride from Erin Jenkins if she offered.”
“Ouch!”

Day 18: Engineering our own misfortune
https://homestuck.com/story/2939
It never occurred to me until now that being betrayed by Jack Noir, the first person to accept him for who he is in a sense, is probably a signifcant part of the reason why Karkat is so angry. It’s probably ironic that the Blood Player’s relationships all have a tendency to disintegrate. Poor guy.
All but one of Karkat’s coplayers will either die, betray him, abandon him, or break up with him before the adventure is over.
More after the break. CW: This one has some suicide mentions in it.
https://homestuck.com/story/2950
WV and the other Carapacians may have some instinctive level of awareness of the players’ classes and aspects - while their legend is ensconced in Carapacian Lore, WV instantly senses the narrative presence of the Thief of Light.
https://homestuck.com/story/2960
Now here is something interesting. I just picked up on it, even though it has actually been present all throughout - when the Narrative addresses WV, it addresses him with information he almost certainly could not know - in a call and response fashion! While he’s jumping from one thought to another in terms of John’s different correspondents, the way that he phrases his dialogue suggests that he is aware of what the Narrative is addressing him.
https://homestuck.com/story/2962
And by all accounts, what he is viewing here is not the literal material events as they unfold, he’s literally looking at the same panels we are.
https://homestuck.com/story/2974
Vriska’s gloating here has always given me chills. It’s in moments like these that she really shines as not just a bully but an authentic diabolical mastermind who is, at least at this point in the story, utterly indifferent to the lives of other people.
https://homestuck.com/story/2975
Vriska’s external locus of control excuses her of feeling guilty about creating Bec Noir. While she is 100% responsible for it, that doesn’t mean, in her mind, that she should suffer any consequences for it (although she’s perfectly happy to take the credit for creating him, it seems.)
https://homestuck.com/story/2992
I’ve always thought that the Dream Bubbles were an extremely cool plot contrivance - semantically linking memories together with dreams and death is a really cool bit of linking.
https://homestuck.com/story/3008
Just as Jade has had effectively no parent to help her find her way in life, she will now have to suffer a sprite who cannot give her advice either. She remains alone.
https://homestuck.com/story/3010
Bec, to a greater degree than perhaps even the Seers, is directly cognizant of interruptions by Command Prompts.
https://homestuck.com/story/3017
I’m starting to be able to actually pick up the themes of the whole Exile plotline.
It seems, in general, to be a parable on power and authority, with each of the Exiles representing one kind or another. You’ve got WV who aspires to be first among equals, democratically elected, a community leader and organizer.
You’ve got the White Queen, who fits classical tropes related to the Good Monarch, a symbolic authority.
You’ve got the Peregrine Mendicant, whose take on governmental duty is more that of a functionary - her self-concept is as someone who does what is needed.
And then you’ve got the Aimless Renegade, who, as a Mad Max Type wasteland cop, could be read as either a playful parody of eighties and nineties copaganda, or as a criticism of copaganda, or both - government as the State, an enforcer of constructed order.
Of all of them, it’s clear that WV and PM’s takes on power are the most useful. The White King and Queen are quickly slaughtered once Jack arrives, because without their magical mcguffins, they remain little more than walking talking symbols.
AR is an interesting case though, because his defining character moment is that he hesitates to follow his orders, and while it could be argued that everything that ensues is his fault for not being stone cold enough to do what needs to be done, I’d argue that his hesitation is admirable - Jack escapes to live another day, and the Mayor survives. The Mayor’s infectious compassion ultimately saves his own life through the AR’s refusal to let him die by destroying the command stations in Cascade, because AR is not willing to trade lives.
https://homestuck.com/story/3040
I’ve never been entirely clear on whether the Dark Gods should be considered evil or simply incomprehensible, morally uncategorizable - in any case, the unique nature of the Kids’ session seems to preclude an ordinary relationship with them. By all accounts they also seem perfectly happy to help Rose create the Green Sun as well, sowing the seeds that will grow into Lord English, their own murderer.
Whatever they’re up to is extremely unclear, and they mostly seem to be a wildcard. I’ll have to see if any of my Homestuck chums have thoughts about the Horrorterrors. With the exception of the Dream Bubbles and their ability to facilitate interaction between the living and the Dead, talking to the Horrorterrors seems to be at best an exercise in facilitating inevitable misfortune - they seem to be all but completely useless.
I suppose learning how to navigate the furthest ring comes in handy exactly once, since it enables the kids to fly to the Alpha’s universe.
https://homestuck.com/story/3043
Rose’s pessimistic dissatisfaction manifests in two ways during this conversation - the first is her contemplation of self-destruction. Along with her suicide mission, one of the very first things she mentions about Doc Scratch is that he wants to die - which clearly fascinates her. The other thing is that, suspicious of the version of truth that Skaia presents, and lacking an anchor, she is very easily swayed by characters who offer her an alternative truth.
https://homestuck.com/story/3045
It has just occurred to me that while Rose doesn’t do anything directly to harm her co-players the way that Vriska does, the main actual thing that they have in common, that I was having a hard time putting my finger on, is actually another parallel between the two of them and Aradia - by allowing themselves to be manipulated by forces of evil beyond human comprehension - Doc Scratch in particular - Rose and Vriska both make manifest all sorts of misfortune. In Aradia’s case, it’s her continuous manipulation by the voices of the dead.
Both of them create nearly all of their own problems, and while they’re at it, create immense amounts of suffering from other people who happen to be in the vicinity. And, according to the rules of the Alpha Timeline, both of them therefore give their assent to their misfortune. The Alpha Timeline is, of course, the same as the Glub Glub trap - if you refuse to participate, you are destroyed, but participation is horrible.
https://homestuck.com/story/3055
Couple things.
The first and most obvious is;
Monkey see, Monkey do.
We’re starting to see the fallout of Vriska’s attempts to acculturate Tavros - she’s tried to force a square peg into a round hole, and has had no luck. Tavros doesn’t fit her vision of an ideal troll, and he never will; that’s not the kind of person that he is.
The use of the word hero is what’s important here. Notice especially the way that he draws a line from physical fitness and personal worth - the ability to do important things that you want to do has become Tavros’ idea of how to self-actualize. He has internalized Vriska’s toxic ideas.
The other thing is that while Grandpa may not have literally committed suicide, but he is clearly emotionally checked out of life - playing Indiana Jones when he’s away from home, and interacting with fantasy women at his tea party, instead of engaging with his real life granddaughter.
Suicide’s a touchy subject, one which Homestuck touches on. As I’ve already said, I’m not going to touch on the Epilogues or HS^2, both of which also touch on the subject. It’s not a central theme, I don’t think, although either killing themselves or waiting around to die recur multiple times as possibilities in the minds of different characters, particularly the Lalondes and Striders. I’ll have more to say about each individual instance, but in both the insincere threat of suicide Rose uses in her early strife, and here in Act 5, the act of self-destruction is not motivated by despair, but by spite - for Rose, self-destruction would be an act to spite someone else who wants her to exist.
Grandpa Harley’s complete emotional absence from the life of his loved ones might be called a bit of emotional suicide. Checked out of personal reality completely to pursue a life of fantasy (and to facilitate Sburb), Grandpa Harley may as well have been dead from Jade’s perspective, even before he died.
https://homestuck.com/story/3056
The link between being a Hero Coolguy and Romantic (Reproductive) Success is drawn very neatly by Tavros, but because the premise is false, the conclusion is also false.
https://homestuck.com/story/3059
Vriska immediately calls attention to the way Tavros is parroting her behavior because of her influence - without all of the chest-beating and saber-rattling that Vriska does, the skillfully executed showmanship of being aloof and confident, there’s not that much difference between what Tavros tried to pull just now, and what Vriska has always done - even repeating her romantic faux-pas.
https://homestuck.com/story/3078
And we’ll pause here, before I get to another walkaround, which I will do tomorrow.
Not a lot that inspired me to talk in the 150 or so pages I got today. Lots of action in Act 5, but less emotional meat to dig into.
For now, it’s Cam signing off, alive but not alone.

Trope Bingo Masterpost
With less than two weeks to spare, I hit a blackout on my Trope Bingo card! Twenty-five fics in ten different fandoms, totaling 61,807 words, holy shit.
The fandom breakdown ended up like so:
Tiger & Bunny - 6 Castlevania (Netflix) - 5 Gargoyles - 4 Teen Wolf - 3 Good Omens - 2 Voltron: Legendary Defender - 1 Leverage - 1 Star Wars - 1 Mary Stayed Out All Night - 1 Captain Harlock - 1 I can honestly say I did not expect Castlevania and Gargoyles to have the #2 and #3 positions under Tiger & Bunny, but hey, it's been a weird year.
But WOO! I DID IT!!
You can find all 25 Trope Bingo fics listed under the cut!

Neon Lights Part 8

The first thing you noticed when you woke up was that someone was touching your face. You took a deep breath and opened your eyes, finding a pair of brown ones only a few inches from yours. “Mornin’” His voice. God. Ryan’s voice was still thick with sleep, and he was running the backs of his fingers over your cheek, stroking the skin gently. “How’d you sleep?” You closed your eyes again, stretching out, and realized that your legs were tangled together with Ryan’s beneath the sheets. Oh.
“I needed it.” You cleared your throat, figuring that since he was touching you, he wouldn’t stop you from returning the affection. Your fingertips danced over his cheek, touching the birthmark under his eye, pushing the hair back from his forehead and he smiled at you as you did it, his face clearly visible in the light that was peeking around the corners of the closed drapes. “I was out cold.” Swallowing, you leaned in, kissing him on the mouth quickly, wanting to linger but not daring to. It’s a new day. When you pulled back, you saw that Ryan’s eyes were filled with sadness, but he blinked twice, and when he opened them again, the look was replaced with one of contentment.
“I slept better than I have in months. This is the most comfortable bed I’ve been in in years.” He swallowed thickly, this time leaning in himself to capture your mouth, the kiss long and slow, his hand still on your face and his leg tightening against yours. “I think it was the company, though,” he whispered, lips hovering above yours. “I think it was you.” He can’t say things like that. Ryan’s lips moved to your forehead again and then he sat up, disentangling himself from your legs and stretching his arms above his head. You couldn’t help but stare at him, especially as he stood up and ran his hands through his hair, the muscles of his stomach and back flexing.
You licked your lips unconsciously - how could you help it? The man - one of the most gorgeous men you’d ever seen in your entire life - had sat up in your bed, where he’d spent the night, and he had been a complete gentleman, not trying to push you, not trying to assert himself, not expecting anything from you. You’d woken up to him touching you, to him staring at you as if he had nowhere else or better to be, no other need in the world except to put his hands on you. You did it this time, you let yourself get attached to someone that’s going to be gone in only a few hours. He moved to the end of the bed and looked over his shoulder at you, smirking.
“What are you lookin’ at? I thought you didn’t wanna go to the show with the half naked men…” He turned to face you, still smirking and locked his hands behind his head, wiggling his hips as you groaned, rolling onto your back. You pulled the blanket over your face, his name leaving your lips in a whine, a slight giggle following it. That’s going to haunt my dreams in the best way. You felt the mattress dip again as he climbed back into the bed, felt his weight settle down over your thighs and then the blanket was pulled down from your face, Ryan kneeling over you. “See somethin’ you like?”
You stared up at him, eyes wide, and pulled your hands out from under the blanket, feeling bold enough to touch his chest, your hands pressing against the solid muscle as he leaned down closer to you, resting his elbows on either side of your body, hands holding onto your shoulders. “Yeah. Maybe. A little.” He smirked back at you, dropping his head and placing a kiss against your throat as he settled his hips against you, rolling them slightly. You had a sudden flash of images in your head - imagining you and Ryan in a different bed, in a different city, the same easy banter between the two of you, your hands moving to his hips and then sliding lower, his hands roaming across your body. You imagined what it would be like to see him daily, to hear about his life, to be a part of his adventures and he a part of yours. You imagined what it would feel like to be beneath him - to be on top of him, the way he was with you, but with no blanket or clothing between the two of you. “Or a lot,” you continued, your own voice a whisper against the side of his face, so quiet that you hoped he wouldn’t hear it.
You hadn’t meant to say it, hadn’t meant to think it, knowing what you did about him and about yourself, but again, you weren’t surprised that it was how you felt, nor were you surprised that you’d vocalized it - just that you’d done it in his presence. What’s the worst that could happen? Him leaving? He’s already gonna do that.
“Yeah?” He pulled his face away from yours, looking down at you as his hair hung over his forehead, his tongue moving over his lower lip briefly. As you searched his face, nodding, your eyes found a slight curl of hair behind his ear, landed on the part of his beard that was thinner than everywhere else, saw the deep color of his eyes and the tic of his jaw. “Yeah, me too.” Ryan’s voice was stronger than yours had been and he stared directly into your eyes as he spoke, no hesitation. “But I meant what I said to you. I don’t do the one night thing. And even if I did, I wouldn’t with you.” You felt a deep hurt in your chest, felt yourself grow cold. What? “You deserve more. You deserve every night, not a night or two in a hotel room. I just met you, and I know that.”
He was touching your face again, his eyes still warm. “I know, Ryan.” You smiled sadly. “It’s better that way, right?” He nodded, hesitated, and then nodded quickly, raising an eyebrow before he leaned down, asking your permission to kiss you again. You tilted your head up, and the next few minutes passed slowly, your hands roaming over his bare back, his fingers stroking your arms. The attraction was there - apparent between the two of you in the way that you were touching each other, the way that you kissed - lazily, as if you’d known each other for years, but you knew that he was keeping a handle on things in the way that he was holding his body over yours, away from it, not giving in and pressing against you, chest to chest, not dropping his face or his mouth any lower than your neck, keeping his hands away from the soft flesh of your chest or your hips.
He climbed off of you and off of the bed, and you grinned to yourself as you caught your breath, watching him adjust the front of his underwear as he walked into the bathroom. Can’t control that, though.
He came out of the bathroom a few minutes later, dressed in his jeans and white shirt, toothbrush sticking out of his mouth as he brushed, and you’d opened the curtains, picking up your phone to scroll through messages and alerts you’d missed. Amy had apologized, Josie had texted again to make sure that you’d gotten back, and you had a few emails from potential clients, seeing as it was almost 2:30 in the afternoon, and everyone else had already been up for hours.
You were in the middle of responding to Josie when Ryan spoke to you after retreating into the bathroom to spit toothpaste into the sink. “Hey.” You looked up at him, the blanket pooled around your waist and he sniffed, coming around to sit on the edge of your side of the bed. “Were you serious about me stayin’ with you again tonight?” You nodded slowly, uncertainty in your eyes. I thought you were leaving today. “Since I didn’t have a full night last night, I figured I’d stay one more night and try to make up for it.” He rubbed his face. “You can say no, I just thought….” You assured him that it was fine, that he could stay, and the look of gratitude on his face was enough to make your chest feel tight again. “Alright. Well, I’m gonna go and get my pack then, go find a laundromat and do some laundry.” He licked his lips. “Can I leave my guitar here?”
“Yeah. Of course you can, Ryan.” He smiled again as you reached over, rummaging through your bag and digging out your room key. “Here. Take this.” He looked surprised. “I might not be here when you get back, I’m going to go out and take some pictures before the sun goes down, so you can let yourself in. I’ll get a new one from the front desk.” He reached over, taking the key from your hands and tucking it into his pocket as he stood up. “If I don’t see you before you head out for tonight, will you be in the same place?” He nodded thoughtfully, looking at you before stepping into the short hallway that led out the door.
“I will be. I’ll be lookin’ for you.” You ducked your head, returning to your phone with a smile on your face. But you looked back up as you heard him walk back to you, leaning down quickly to tangle his fingers in your hair and kiss you again - hard and fast and leaving you breathless when he pulled away. “Have a good afternoon.” He quickly made his way back across the room, and when you heard the door shut behind him, clicking locked, you dropped your phone, hitting your head against the plush headboard and covering your face with your hands. Fuck.
---
You had made your way all the way down to the far end of the Strip past Mandalay Bay, your camera bag slung over your shoulder. You didn’t mind walking, didn’t mind the heat (though you’d put sunscreen on your shoulders after changing for the day, wearing a strapless dress that hit just below the knee), didn’t mind the large crowds or the bright sun. You’d spent a lot of time in front of New York, New York and inside of the MGM Grand before making your way down the sidewalk toward the Welcome to Las Vegas sign, your ultimate goal. You visited each time you were in the city; it was a ritual for you and the light was perfect for photos. You knew that a lot of what you were taking would be unusable, no different from the other thousands of pictures that people took each day in the city, but each time you pointed the camera and pushed the shutter button, you hoped for the best.
You found your thoughts drifting to Ryan each time you saw someone strumming their guitar on the sidewalk, each time someone looked up hopefully at you from their place crouched or sitting on the ground, “anything helps” written on their signs. Though you hadn’t ever once thought of Ryan as poor, you knew that it was technically true, and that one accident - one slip of his foot jumping on or off of a train, one disagreement with the wrong person could put him in the same position as so many others, despite the fact that he had a gift to share with the world. They all do. They all did. He’s no different.
By 6:30, you were getting hungry and had decided that it was time to begin making your way back to the center of the strip, wanting to be near the Bellagio when the fountain lights came on for the first time. As you walked, you wondered if Ryan had made it back to the room yet, if he’d had dinner, if he’d stored his backpack on the chaise, clothes clean and folded up neatly inside of it. I’m not used to this, worrying about someone else. You grinned, raising your camera again and taking a few photos of the exterior of the Cosmopolitan, which was the only Strip hotel with balconies, and the Aria and Vdara hotels. Their shapes were unique and in the fading light, you managed to capture the last rays of the sun reflecting off of the tall buildings, focusing on the gentle curve of each hotel’s design. You were pleased with the images, and you continued on, wanting to get a good spot in front of the Bellagio.
You stayed for three songs, watching each one in a slightly different location, giving you a varied look at the building and the ones surrounding it, the way the spray of water was iridescent in the air as it fell gracefully back to the surface of the pond, the greenery surrounding the fencing. As you moved, you remembered why you loved taking pictures, and your mind was focused only on the next image, on figuring out the perfect angle for each shot. By that time, your stomach was growling loudly, and you decided to go back and see if Ryan was on the bridge, if he’d eaten. But he wasn’t there when you walked by - someone else standing in his spot, a cooler of water next to him. He wasn’t on that bridge anywhere, and he wasn’t on the plaza at the bottom of the escalator, even though Carlie the Incredible was back.
You made your way back to your room, a frown on your face, and when you opened the door, it was silent and empty. It’s eight, of course it is. He’s probably… But as you looked around the room, you didn’t see his pack, didn’t see Ryan’s guitar. He left. You stood at the end of the hallway, looking at the bed where the sheets were still messy, pillows still as you’d left them. The pizza box and to go containers were gone - you’d left them in the hallway before heading out - but everything else was as it had been previously, except for the missing guitar. You looked for a note, for a sign that he was coming back, for anything to indicate that you’d just missed him by a few minutes and as you dropped your camera and bag onto the bed, you stepped into the bathroom.
His toothbrush was on the counter, neatly placed back into the container. Your eyes turned to the shower, where your dress from the previous night along with your tank top and shorts were hanging next to the gray shirt that Ryan had worn. Without thinking, you stepped forward, pulling the material down off of the shower glass, bringing it to your nose and inhaling. Smells like him. “He’s gone.” You finally spoke out loud, walking back into the bedroom with the shirt still clutched in your hands and sank down onto the bed, twisting your fingers in the fabric. You didn’t know what - if anything - you’d done to cause him to leave, but maybe it had just been the right time. Maybe it had been his plan all along, the laundry and the promise of coming back a way to find out when you’d be leaving. Maybe it gave him a chance to come back and get his stuff without having to say goodbye. He’d kissed you goodbye, after all, that last kiss completely different than the other ones you’d shared, and maybe instead of it meaning “see you later” as you imagined, it had truly been a goodbye, his way of thanking you and making a clean break without actually saying the words.
You took a deep breath, standing and setting the shirt down on the bed before you grabbed your camera out of your bag, checking the battery and dislodging it so that you could plug it in to charge. You picked up your purse, making sure that you tucked your new room key into it and headed back for the door. You’d known that Ryan was leaving, known you’d have to say goodbye, known that you’d miss him, but you were uncomfortable with the fact that the feeling of knowing that he was gone already was hitting you so hard. “Food. I need to eat.”
Nodding your head, you stepped out of the room and back into the hallway, deciding that after you went and drowned your sadness in a heaping plate of Chinese food, you would go back and get your camera before heading up the strip in the opposite direction, toward the Stratosphere and Fremont Street, which was where your group had been planning to head that night anyway. Good luck, Ryan Brenner. I’ll miss you.

Best Modern Christmas Tree Shark Tank
Modern Christmas Tree Shark Tank puts a new twist on an exemplary Christmas staple. The contemporary, counterfeit tree lights up any space for these special seasons with stunning trimmings, shimmering gems, and shining rings. Sharks loved the contemporary trees, yet stressed that they were all too expensive and specialty. Lori Greiner thought they were outwardly engaging yet didn't care for the value point, while Mark Cuban addressed how the business could be scaled.
