Of the Best Beaches in Bali
4 Of the Best Beaches in Bali
Best Beach for Snorkelling Because most of the beaches on the island of Bali have such incredible surf and waves, this does not make them ideal for snorkelling. However, if you travel to the east of the island to Padangbai, you will find three beaches with paradise white sand and calm, clear waters. This quiet sleepy fishing village doesn’t attract so many visitors, meaning the beaches are often…

Fast Boat From Bali To Gili Island
Gili Trawangan is the largest and most visited island between three gilis. Star hotel and lots of unique accommodations available, from small stalls to fancy restaurants. A sunny time on that day can be easily spent to admire underwater life with snorkeling, diving or road boat under the glass then relax to meet amazing horizons at sunset. Some places turn into a busy party at night. For those who crave local tastes, the night market is a food paradise.
The best way to achieve Gili Trawangan from Bali is through a quick boat from the Port of Padangbai. Padangbai is a small sleepy fishing village located in East Bali close to Candidasa, about 54 km from Denpasar the capital of Bali. It is connected Bali to other islands such as Gilis, Lembongan, Nusa Penida, Lombok, Sundanese, and many others. It takes around 90 minutes to get to the Gili Islands from this popular place.
The boat quickly departed from the attack port to Gilis. This route takes longer but will come with a very interesting opportunity to see neighboring popular islands that are smaller than Bali, Nusa Lembongan & Nusa Penida. Through this point, the trip to Gili Trawangan will take 2.5 hours.
Gili Air is the most advanced island among the three, but it is very quiet and calm with a nice white sand beach line decorated with small bungalows and restaurants where you can easily relax on blue. The best snorkeling and diving places are found on the east coast. Gili Air is a perfect holiday island runaway!

You Can Find Luxury Accommodations at These 5 Beach Locations on a Bali Holiday
If you are visiting the picturesque Indonesian island chain of Bali, then you cannot cut any corners. A vacation in Bali calls for an itinerary that covers all of Bali’s natural tourist hotspots, activities and cultural hubs. However, as far as accommodations in Bali are concerned, nothing rivals the luxury resort accommodations on the best beaches of Bali. Tourists should always set a budget aside for accommodation at a beach resort well before embarking on their Bali holidays.
Here are the best beach locations for luxury resort accommodations in Bali:
i. Beaches of Nusa Dua
Nusa Dua tops the list as the most sought after beach location in Bali. The beaches here are mostly owned or leased by premium-grade resorts. You can quickly head down to sun-bathe and surf at the beach locations that are still open to the public. But if you seek accommodations at the beach, then you can also enjoy activities such as manicured gardens, golf courses, a sea-facing dining environment, etc.
ii. Beaches of Menjangan Island
The Menjangan Island lies in the northwest fringes of Bali. The luxury beach resorts here have savannah vegetation that is home to the Javan rusa deer, resulting in the name ‘Menjangan’ or ‘deer’. You can enjoy breathtaking sunsets from the lounging areas within the resort and visit the shrines built across the island.
iii. Beaches of Nusa Lembongan
Nusa Lembongan is another beach destination to head for if you want to escape the commotion of tourism in Bali’s mainland. The island community of Nusa Lembongan starkly contrasts the luxurious resort-life, since it comprises of local fisherfolk and farmers. If you are a fan of long nature walks and hikes, then you should be comfortable here.
iv. Beaches of Padangbai
The beach resorts of Padangbai are for tourists with a knack for adventure sports and water activities such as snorkelling. You can while away your afternoons and evenings snorkelling at Blue Lagoon, Bias Tugel and Padangbai lagoon itself. These beaches are not only recommended to adventure seekers but to every tourist visiting Bali. The sheer sight of the diverse aquatic life here is surreal!
v. Beaches of Amed and Tulamben
Finally, tourists can also seek luxury accommodations near the shores of Amed or Tulamben, on their Bali holidays. Amed and Tulamben are two islands that are popular among locals and tourists for their historical heritage value. The Banyuning site in Amed is home to a Japanese shipwreck. The USAT Liberty shipwreck is in the seabeds near Tulamben. The Jemeluk Bay which surrounds these islands can offer you ample snorkelling and recreational fishing. Marine life hobbyists will enjoy the proximity and abundance of marine life around the shipwrecks.
Swimming under the currents, in these gentle waters of Bali, is an experience that opens your eye to the beauty of nature. So if you want your holidays spent right, make sure there is room for visiting at least one of these beaches on your itinerary.

Indonesia - Bali
Hello everyone,
Our last stint in Indonesia was spent in Seminyak, which we can only describe as the Asian version of Ibiza. Here you can spend your time watching Aussies walk up and down the high street drinking Smirnoff Ices, or visiting the endless number of surf and boutique fashion shops. In honesty, it wasn’t really our cup of tea and we found that prices in general were inflated which is no doubt due to the locality of it to the airport. Nevertheless our little airbnb pad was ideal to use as a base even if the AC didn’t work, the sink kept on blocking, and the resident Gecko was the most annoying little blighter at night with his incessant mating call!
(That said, the sunsets on Seminyak beach were incredible)
Our first day back as a two was spent catching up on life admin; all boring stuff really but we had quite a bit to think about, particularly the rough outline for New Zealand and the strict customs rules upon arrival. Once that was out of the way, we organised a scooter as we had plans to try and catch up with Bry and Kyson again, and to visit Canggu which was up the coast from us, and Ubud, the bohemian yogi heaven.
We trekked out fairly early the next day to explore Ubud and the surrounding area. Once we had got out of the labyrinth of streets and traffic lights within the Denpasar area the countryside opened up, and it was beautiful. It really felt like we were riding through paradise. We passed terraced rice paddies being worked on by the local farmers which in turn were being followed by a long legged breed of white birds (name unknown, sorry Nicholas!), palm trees, beautiful homes, winding roads and excellent views before reaching Ubud town. Once we arrived we stopped for a coffee before scooting around the streets where we stumbled upon a local market. The wares looked to be of relatively good quality, and after very easy negotiation with the vendors we parted with some cash and bought some souvenirs. By the time we were all shopped out we stopped for Nasi Goreng (fried rice) and some more of those delicious sweet corn fritters, before planning a route home via the north of Ubud.
By this point we had linked up with Bryony and found that they had been staying in Amed for the last few nights. Amed is in the north of the island and is home to the main diving spots that Bali has to offer, so we arranged a fun dive with Adventure Divers and scooted up to meet them. Our journey took about 3 1/2 hours but in this time we had a little detour (by little we mean that Maps Me once again put one on us and directed us to ride through a river bed and fields on the way there...) to Blue Lagoon on the east coast just north of Sanur and Padang Bai. We managed to squeeze in a little swim and the snorkelling was great, but unfortunately the place was rife with plastic. Spud collected a sack during our swim, but we still managed to enjoy the variety of fish on offer before we cruised on. We managed to get to Amed by lunchtime and met Bry and Kyson at a local eco deli for a bite to eat. We met again in the evening and ate grilled fresh fish (barracuda, mahi mahi and tuna) with a few beers to wash it all down whilst discussing the plan for the next day as we had organised to dive with them in the afternoon!
(Padangbai harbour)
We had a brilliant day with Adventure Divers the next day. Our first dive was at the Jemuluk drop off which was a shore dive that went onto a shelf. Within minutes we had seen sting rays which was on our list of hopefuls, and towards the end of the dive we say a white tipped reef shark. We managed to conserve our air to be able to stay down an hour, and when we surfaced we were ecstatic. Two big thumbs up for Jemuluk drop off! After a coffee and some lunch we were ready to head to the next dive site, the USAT Liberty - a WW1 ship wreck. Bry and Kyson had got to grips with things in the morning, so we all jumped in the bus and headed to the west of Amed where the wreck is situated. We left with our guide but soon bumped into the other groups. The dive was amazing and quite technical as during parts we were inside the wreck. Neither of us could believe the range of colours of both the fish and coral that we could see. We saw many new types of fish, but highlights for us were the orangutang crab and the sizeable humphead wrasse. We were all on a high once we surfaced, and after refreshments at the dive school we had a long scoot back to Seminyak before dark.
(Sunset over Mount Agung in Amed, Agung is an active volcano which looms over the town - the last eruption in the 1960’s caused such violent earthquakes that is moved the USAT Liberty ship from the beach to about 50m into the water from the shore, creating the amazing wreck we dived on)
The next few days were spent exploring the local area. We had a couple of afternoons in Canggu, and managed to surf whilst there. The conditions were pretty messy so things were hard work after the luxury of the Lombok reef breaks, but we managed to stay in for an hour! The same applies for Legian beach although this time only Spud surfed. The waves were dumping quite hard onto the shore but he managed to get out ok, only to find that the surf died down so unfortunately that session failed miserably. We also ventured out to Jimbaran and the Uluwatu area south of the airport. The beaches were generally pretty good in this area although Jimbaran wasn’t anything special. We spent a couple of hours on Balangan beach before meeting up with Bry and Kyson one final time before their flight home. We had a last lunch in a nice french restaurant then enjoyed a Balinese massage (although Spud and Kyson chickened out of wearing their high quality disposable underwear!) before saying our goodbyes as they headed back to the UK.
Before we knew it the time had come for us to pack up again and prepare for our flights to Brisbane and then onto Auckland. We cleared our bags of anything we didn’t need, cleaned our shoes to make sure there were no potential contaminants on them that would be deemed a risk by NZ bio security and enjoyed one final Bintang beer at a local restaurant that offered a free pool before heading to the airport.
Onwards to our final destination - New Zealand!

3 days in Bali
Bali can be considered as one of the most sought-after travel destinations found in the world. From the recent studies, it has been identified that most of the couples who are interested in enjoying their honeymoons tend to visit Bali. No matter what reason you are visiting Bali, you will definitely be impressed with the lovely weather and the romantic feel.
If you are looking forward to spending three days in Bali, here is a travel itinerary that you can keep in mind. It will help you to cover most of the attractions found in Bali.
How to get to Bali?
It is possible for you to reach Bali from many major airports out there in the world. Since Bali is a popular tourist attraction, you can find direct flights to Bali from London, Dubai and Singapore. After you visit Bali, getting here and there will not be a difficult thing to do. Even though you cannot find a developed public transport system in Bali, you will be able to find plenty of taxi services operating. You will be able to get the service offered by them without spending a fortune.
Spending your 3 days in BaliDay 1
It is better if you can start your journey from the Eastern side of Bali. That’s where you can visit directly to the Padangbai. The Padangbai and Blue Lagoon can be considered as the main seaport that you can find in Eastern Bali. It consists of a large number of hidden beaches. These beaches are extremely popular among day trippers and usually get crowded throughout the year. Snorkelling and diving are some of the most popular activities that you can find in this beach. The beach is located in close proximity to Bias Tugel, which offers blue waters throughout the entire year.
As the next thing, you can visit the Suluban Beach. Suluban Beach can be considered as one of the most unique beaches that you will be able to find in Bali. The beach is canopied along a looming cliff face. It is a small beach when compared to the other beaches that you can see in Bali. This would not be the best destination available in Bali for sunbathers, but Suluban Beach offers plenty of things for the surfers. When you walk in the sand, you will be able to get a rewarding experience as well.
The night market is located in close proximity to the Suluban Beach. After spending your evening on the beach, you can head directly to the night market. It will provide you with the opportunity to get an exciting dining experience. On the other hand, you will get the chance to shop until the late night.
Day 2
On the second day, you can travel towards the northern side of Bali. Balangan beach can be found towards the northern side of Bali. It has become a paradise among surfers. It is possible for you to find a large number of beach shacks along Balangan as well. They offer beer, surfer meals and cold refreshments to the surfers. However, it is important to keep in mind that you will have to go through an adventurous journey to visit Balangan because you will have to climb down dozens of steps in a limestone hill.
During your second day, you can visit some of the temples located in the neighbourhood as well. That’s where the Jagatnatha Temple comes into play. It is one of the most unique and beautiful attractions found in the region. After visiting the temple, you can head directly to the Bajra Sandhi Monument. It will help you to get a clear understanding on how people in Bali struggled throughout the history.
You would love to visit one of the private beaches during the time you spend in Bali as well. That’s where Karma Beach comes into play. Karma Beach was formerly named as the Nammos Beach. This is a private beach that you can see in Bali. You will be able to enjoy clean white sand and the deep blue sea while you are spending your time at Karma Beach. Since this is a private beach, an ideal atmosphere has been set for you to sunbathe and have a quality time. In addition, you will get the opportunity to enjoy a Mediterranean inspired menu along with signature cocktails while you are spending your time at Karma Beach.
Day 3
On the third day, you can move to the Southern regionof Bali. Green Bowl is a hidden gem that you can see in the Southern coast of Bali. This beach offers exotic and quiet shores to the guests. If you are looking forward to enjoying a relaxing time at a beach in Bali, Green Bowl would be one of the best options available for you to consider about. You will be able to see bat caves at the base of Green Bowl. Getting to the beach is extremely easy as well. Most importantly, Green Bowl offers a unique bird’s eyeview, which can impress you and deliver a fascinating experience to you.
If you are interested in exploring the natural beauty of Bali, you can visit the Bali Bird Park during the third day. You can witness a large number of birds from your naked eyes during the time that you are spending in the Bali bird park. In addition, you can also visit the Bali Orchid Garden. You will have a great time at this tropical garden.
The Dream Beach, which can be found towards the South East of Bali is another great attraction available for you to visit. In fact, you will need to go on a 27km journey from the mainland of Bali in order to get to the Dream Beach. Dream Beach offers a large number of sandy bays, which you can spend your time. It is possible for you to find a large number of bungalows alongside dream beach as well.

Sea Turtle at Tulamben
School of Fish and Free Diver
Bali is my favorite island in Indonesia. I have been there multiple times, and each visit always brought me into something different. There is something about the island that will cling to: the warmth of the Balinese people, its culture that deep rooted in their everyday lives, its island nature from mountain area to beach area and its beautiful underwater life.
While Bali dive sites are mostly located on the south-west end of the global centre of marine biodiversity, Coral Triangle Area, its underwater life was impressive to dive and snorkel. Bali dive sites are varied for beginners to advance scuba divers; from calm waters to drifting dives; from small critters such as nudibranch, harlequin shrimps to huge marine species like mantas or Mola-Mola (sun fish).
The dive sites in Bali stretch in four regions of Bali: West, North, East, and South-East (Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Ceningan), as you can view on the wiki travel map below. By far I have been diving in the East and South East regions. We stayed at Candidasa in the East region during our diving week. Candidasa used to be a small fishermen village but now it is a mix of tourism and traditional fishing industry. The area of choice for tourists who would like to stay away from the hectic South of Bali. It is about 65 km from the South.
The East: Tulamben, Amed and Padangbai
The most famous dive site in East of Bali is in a small town called Tulamben (around 45 minutes from Candidasa): USAT Liberty shipwreck. It was a United States cargo ship attacked by a Japanese submarine in 1942 during the World War Two on Lombok Strait. It was stranded on Bali’s beach in Tulamben. Scuba divers can access the dive site on shore. The place was really beautiful. The wreck is covered by corals with lots of fish and turtles as residents. And those school of fish….
There are more dive sites to visit in Tulamben such as Kubu, Coral Garden, Drop Off, Seraya, and it continues to Amed (around 20 minutes driving from Tulamben). Amed has a long extend Coast area with the black stone beach. Its beach is similar to Tulamben, not for a sunbathing activity like other Balinese beaches such as Nusa Dua, Geger, Jimbaran, Dreamland or Sanur. Tulamben and Amed have calm water, so these places are perfect for snorkeling and beginner scuba divers.
Another beautiful area to dive is Padangbai, which is also a ferry terminal area that connected Bali and Lombok. Located around 12 km from Candidasa and in Lombok Strait, the dive sites in this area could have a strong current. I was falling in the area during full moon time, and we were just drifting following the current. It was fun, although I was unable to take any picture. Dive sites surrounding Padangbai are Blue Lagoon, Jepun, and Ferry Channel.
About 15 minutes by boat from Padangbai, there are three very tiny islands: Gili Tepekong, Gili Mimpang, and Gili Biaha, where each island has several dive sites. I wish to dive in Gili Tepekong back then – I have heard that mola-mola is regular visitor – but unfortunately, on that day all dives to Gili Tepekong was considered too dangerous due to strong downdraft current (Gili Tepekong is well known as “the toilet” because of this downdraft current). Well, next time I hope!
The South East: Nusa Lembongan & Nusa Penida.
Nusa Lembongan and Nusa Penida are two small islands located in the southeast of Bali. Nusa is Sanskrit word that means island. Nusa Penida is larger than Nusa Lembongan with better infrastructure. While Nusa Penida is now having quite numerous villas and resorts, Nusa Lembong is quieter than Nusa Penida.
I did not stay on either island. Dive sites in Nusa Penida and Nusa Lembongan can be accessed by boat from Padangbai. It took us 45 minutes boat ride to reach two famous dive sites in the area: Manta’s Point and Crystal Bay.
While the weather temperature back then was 30 degree Celsius, the water temperatures in Manta’s Point and Crystal Bay was below 25 degrees C!! We were prepared with 7mm wetsuit, and yet I was still feeling cold. Brrr..if I remember those diving times there.
However, my suffering to dive in 22 degrees C cold water in Manta’s Point was rewarded by seeing seven mantas swam on the surface and they made a circle! What a beautiful sight! Unfortunately, I did not bring my camera to capture that moment.
Crystal Bay dive site was colder than Manta’s Point. I think it even dropped to 16-17 degree C. This dive site is popular for Mola-Mola sight. We were told that earlier in the day, some scuba divers saw the Mola-Mola in Crystal Bay. The dive site was not only cold but also had a strong current. The water was amazingly clear with the white sandy bottom. There was a huge rock with beautiful colorful corals where divers can hide from the super strong current. But, oh well, no Mola-Mola for us to see…
While Diving in Bali
One thing to be aware when diving in Bali is the current in the area of Nusa Penida, Nusa Lembongan, and Gili Tepekong. I have heard numerous news of missing scuba divers in Bali like what just happened recently to Japanese scuba divers group. It is important to choose dive centers who take safety seriously and know the area very well when diving in these regions. I used Orca Dive Center in Candidasa and Paradise Dive Center in Padangbai. Both has good service with well experienced local dive guides and taking safety seriously. Also, diving in a smaller group like four to six scuba divers would be safer.
Above of all, diving in Bali is worth to try; the dive sites are beautiful with the variation of diving skill levels. Safety precaution during diving is important; therefore you can enjoy the beauty of underwater life safe and sound.
Bali Diving: East and South East Bali is my favorite island in Indonesia. I have been there multiple times, and each visit always brought me into something different.
