Does David have a motorcycle. I can see him waiting for Mack outside her work wearing sunglasses and leaning on his motor. I know I have to stop watching Jake's video.
HAHAHAHAHA! I know exactly where that image came from cause it came for me too bby!
Yes, he does. I see him using the one he has in Iowa more just because of the extra congestion in NYC. He likes the open roads of the fields more than the grid of the city.
But yes, let's imagine this a little more...
Mack squints against the bright sunlight as she walks out of the skyscraper the magazine leases a few floors in the center of the city. She is rarely in the office, but getting the final pieces of her Bali article was not coming to her in the apartment. She needed structure and a change of scenery. So she found herself here on a Tuesday afternoon.
It is early in the spring, but late in the hockey season. Mack had left David asleep after a kiss on his stubbled cheek this morning. He hadn't even stirred. He is exhausted from the team's playoff push and a few lingering injuries that have nagged him all season.
After putting her sunglasses in place, Mack heads towards her subway entrance, ready to catch her ride home and dive into a new book this deadline hasn't let her start yet.
"Mackncheese." She thinks she hears from her left.
She keeps walking, but looks over, then stops suddenly seeing David leaning against his Harley. He looks so sexy. His legs are crossed at the ankles, leather jacket covering his lengthy arms before exposing his wrists above where his hands are shoved into his jean pockets. His thumbs are like arrows, pointing to the heavy package resting below his zipper. She licks her lips, then tilts her head to the side. The breeze blows her brown hair about her face, sticking to her lips as the world moves between them, but neither of them notice.
All they see is each other.
“This is next level boyfriend material.” She jokes as she slowly saunters towards him.
“Only the best for you, Ms. Hischier.” He smirks, mustache twitching up in one corner.
“You look like you know a thing or two about whats best for me.”
“I do. Come for a ride with me and I might even show you.” He puts a helmet between their bodies. Mack looks down, then grins when she realizes it has her nickname 'mackncheese' printed on it in small, loopy writing.
“But what will the other girls you bring around on this thing think?” She wonders, putting it on top of her head. David knocks her fingers away to adjust the chin strap for her. His fingers brush against her warm skin, sending goosebumps down her body. When he is done with the strap, he uses his thumb and pointer finger to lock her chin in place for him to kiss her. His lips graze along hers, then press more forcefully into her flesh. Her fingers curl his shirt into her fist against his stomach. She steps forward, pressing her thigh into his hard erection. She smiles, then moans into his mouth as their tongues connect.
“You’re the only one for me, baby.” He finally answers her as he pulls away. “Knew it since the day we met.” Mack laughs at him, brushing the statement off as she watches him settle onto the bike and then help her on.
That’s fine with him. Mack can laugh it off all she wants. But he knows his truth.
He started falling in love with her the moment he saw her and still hasn’t stopped.

Juvenile striped eel catfish (Plotosus lineatus) in Jemeluk Bay, Bali, Indonesia. (Source: Abyss Dive Center Bali)
I can't find much on why they do this, but since they're catfish I assume they're bottom feeders. The ones on top are trying to get out in front of the school, so they can swim down to look for snacks. The ones at the bottom are sucking up whatever they can find, until they realize the school is moving on, so they have to stop eating to catch up. I don't know if the tight formation helps them defend against predators, or if they're just that competitive about trying to stay close to where the food is.

Yoga and the Power of Positive Affirmations
In the serene and spiritually uplifting environment of Ubud, Bali, yoga practitioners from around the world gather to deepen their practice and embrace the transformative power of positive affirmations. Positive affirmations, simple yet profound statements, are a cornerstone of mental well-being and self-growth. When paired with yoga, they create a synergy that fosters inner peace, resilience, and a heightened sense of purpose. At Maa Shakti Yog Bali, we emphasize integrating affirmations into your daily yoga practice to unlock a more profound connection with your true self.
The Science Behind Positive Affirmations
Positive affirmations work on the principle of neuroplasticity—the brain’s ability to rewire itself based on repeated thought patterns. When you consistently recite affirmations, your brain begins to adopt these statements as truths, replacing self-doubt and negativity with empowerment and positivity. This practice can be especially powerful during yoga, as the mind is already in a state of heightened focus and receptivity.
Why Combine Yoga and Positive Affirmations?
Yoga is more than physical postures; it’s a journey toward mental clarity and spiritual awakening. Positive affirmations enhance this journey by:
Aligning Mind and Body: The practice of yoga cultivates mindfulness, making it the perfect time to introduce affirmations that resonate with your personal goals.
Boosting Confidence: Affirmations like “I am strong and capable” help build confidence as you challenge your body through various asanas.
Deepening Spiritual Practice: Affirmations encourage introspection and help you connect with the higher purpose of your yoga practice.
Reducing Stress and Anxiety: Reciting affirmations such as “I am at peace” during pranayama (breathwork) or meditation creates a calming effect on the mind and body.
How to Incorporate Affirmations into Your Yoga Practice
If you’re attending a Yoga Teacher Training in Bali or practicing at home, incorporating affirmations can elevate your sessions. Here’s how:
Set an Intention: Begin your practice by setting an intention and aligning it with a positive affirmation. For instance, if your goal is inner calm, use affirmations like “I am calm and centered.”
Use Breathwork: During pranayama, silently repeat an affirmation with each inhale and exhale. This integrates the affirmation into your subconscious while soothing your mind.
Enhance Asana Practice: Pair affirmations with yoga postures. For example, while holding Warrior Pose, affirm, “I am strong and courageous.”
Incorporate Meditation: Conclude your session with a few moments of meditation, repeating your chosen affirmation to solidify its impact.
Affirmations to Get You Started
For Strength: “I am resilient and powerful.”
For Peace: “I release all tension and embrace serenity.”
For Growth: “I am constantly evolving into my best self.”
For Gratitude: “I am thankful for this moment and all it brings.”

Medina of Fez
Today, let's journey through one of the world's oldest and most enchanting cities, the Medina of Fez. A UNESCO World Heritage site since 1981, this labyrinthine city is often described as the cultural and spiritual heart of Morocco. With its rich history, vibrant souks, and stunning architecture, Fez el-Bali (Old Fez) is a must-see destination for anyone looking to dive deep into the essence of Morocco. Let’s explore the magic that awaits within its ancient walls!
The Medina of Fez was inscribed as a UNESCO World Heritage site due to its outstanding universal value as an urban ensemble that has preserved its original fabric and functions. The recognition helps protect its historical architecture and unique way of life, ensuring that future generations can continue to experience its timeless charm. It stands as a testament to the city's enduring legacy as a center of learning, trade, and culture.
Fez was founded in the 8th century by Idris I, making it one of the oldest cities in Morocco. It rapidly became a center for religion, culture, and learning, playing a pivotal role in shaping Moroccan identity. By the 12th century, Fez was flourishing as a hub of trade and scholarship, attracting scholars, artisans, and merchants from all over the Islamic world. Walking through the medina feels like stepping into a living history book, where centuries-old traditions continue to thrive.
The Medina of Fez is often called the world’s largest car-free urban area. With over 9,000 narrow streets and alleys, it's a true maze where getting lost is part of the experience. The medina’s winding paths are lined with towering walls, intricately designed doorways, and bustling shops. Each turn presents a new discovery—whether it’s a hidden courtyard, a centuries-old fountain, or a lively market selling spices, leather goods, and handcrafted jewelry.
One of the most remarkable landmarks in Fez is the University of Al-Qarawiyyin, founded in 859 AD. Recognized by UNESCO and the Guinness World Records as the world’s oldest continually operating university, Al-Qarawiyyin has been a beacon of learning for over a millennium. Though the university is still functional, non-Muslim visitors can only peek into the stunning courtyard. Even from a distance, the intricate tilework and grand arches offer a glimpse into its architectural splendor.
The souks, or markets, of Fez are legendary. Each section of the medina specializes in different crafts, reflecting the city’s rich artisanal heritage. The Souk el-Henna is known for traditional cosmetics and henna, while the Souk Attarine dazzles visitors with its array of spices, dried fruits, and fragrant perfumes. The scent of fresh mint, the vibrant colors of dyed wool, and the sound of artisans hammering copper are sensory overloads that make wandering through the souks an unforgettable experience.
One of the most iconic sights in the medina is the Chouara Tannery, a place where leather is processed using methods that have remained unchanged for centuries. From nearby terraces, you can witness the colorful spectacle of large stone vats filled with natural dyes—vibrant reds, yellows, and blues—where workers treat the hides. The tannery’s pungent smell is a small price to pay for witnessing this age-old craft. It’s here that some of the world’s finest leather products are made, from belts and bags to traditional Moroccan slippers, or babouches.
Fez is a showcase of exquisite Moorish architecture. The medina is filled with grand madrasas (Islamic schools), such as the stunning Bou Inania Madrasa, with its green-tiled minaret and intricate stucco work. The Zaouia of Moulay Idriss II, a shrine dedicated to the city's founder, is another spiritual and architectural gem. The beautiful Nejjarine Fountain, adorned with elaborate tile mosaics, is a popular spot for both locals and visitors, exemplifying the exquisite artistry that permeates the city.
Beyond the historic medina, Fez has expanded into a bustling modern city, with areas like Fez el-Jdid (New Fez) and the Ville Nouvelle showcasing a different side of Moroccan life. The contrast between the ancient walls of the medina and the more contemporary parts of the city highlights Fez’s dynamic evolution over centuries. While the medina preserves the past, the rest of Fez embraces the future, making it a fascinating place to explore in its entirety.🕌💫

A Journey Through Time: A Brief History of Lombok Island
Lombok Island is an Indonesian paradise located in the Indian Ocean, known for its stunning beaches and lush tropical forests. As a popular tourist destination, many come to enjoy the breathtaking views and unique culture of this beautiful island. But what is not as well known are the fascinating events that have shaped Lombok’s history over thousands of years. This article will provide a brief overview of how Lombok has changed from prehistoric times up until present day, providing insight into how it became one of Indonesia’s most beloved holiday destinations.
An Overview of Lombok Island
Lombok Island is an Indonesian island located in the Lesser Sunda Islands chain. It lies east of Bali and west of Sumbawa, separated by a narrow strait known as Lombok Strait. The island is home to approximately 4 million people, who are primarily Muslim with smaller populations of Hinduism and Christianity. Lombok has long been a popular tourist destination due to its stunning beaches, spectacular scenery, and vibrant culture. Its landscape consists mostly of lush green hills and valleys surrounded by volcanic peaks in the center of the island. There are also several small islands off the coast (known locally as Gilis) that offer great snorkeling and diving. In recent years, Lombok has become increasingly developed due to its growing popularity among tourists from around the world.
Prehistoric Times
The history of Lombok Island dates back to the prehistoric age, when it was home to a variety of early inhabitants and tribes. It is believed that these ancient people spoke an Austronesian language, similar to those spoken in other parts of Southeast Asia. These early settlers were responsible for developing the unique culture and traditions still seen on the island today.
The 1257 Mt Samalas Eruption
The Mount Samalas eruption was a catastrophic event that occurred in 1257 AD in Indonesia. It is believed to have been one of the largest volcanic eruptions in human history, with a volcanic explosivity index of 7, making it one of the most explosive eruptions in the past 2,000 years. The eruption caused widespread destruction, with ash and pumice falling as far as 1,000 kilometers (620 miles) away. The ash cloud reached an altitude of around 50 kilometers (31 miles), causing a short-term drop in global temperatures and affecting weather patterns around the world. The eruption also caused significant loss of life, with estimates suggesting that as many as 15,000 people may have died in the immediate aftermath of the eruption. The effects of the eruption were felt for many years, with crops and livestock being destroyed and communities being disrupted.
The 16th Century to the 19th Century
The 16th Century to 19th Century In 1512, Dutch explorers arrived in search of spices and islands with potential trading opportunities. As they began colonizing nearby islands, their influence soon spread throughout Indonesia including Lombok Island. This period saw Islam become more prominent on the island as traders from Malaysia brought their religion with them during this time period.
Dutch Colonization and Expansion in the Region
In the 16th century, Lombok Island was colonized by the Dutch. The Dutch were able to expand their presence in the region through a number of trading posts and forts that they established on Lombok and nearby islands. Through these activities, they were able to control much of the trade in spices, silk, tea and other goods which helped them build an expansive empire throughout Southeast Asia. During this period, many people from East Java migrated to Lombok as well as other parts of Indonesia due to economic opportunities offered by colonial rule. This influx of people contributed greatly to the cultural diversity found on Lombok today.
The Rise of Islamic Influence on Lombok Island
The rise of Islamic influence on the island of Lombok began in the 16th century when a group of Muslim traders arrived from Makassar. These traders brought with them their own set of beliefs and customs, which soon spread throughout the island. This period saw an increased presence of Islam in all aspects of life, including politics, education, and culture. The introduction of Islamic law also had a profound effect on the local population, who were required to adhere to strict religious practices such as prayer five times daily and fasting during Ramadan. As time passed by more mosques were built across Lombok Island to meet the needs of its growing Muslim population. Although there has been some resistance towards Islam over time due to cultural differences, it is still considered one of the main religions on the island today. The Islamic influence can be seen in many aspects of Lombok life, from its traditional dress to its architecture and music. This has helped shape the unique culture of Lombok Island and continues to play an important role in the lives of its inhabitants.
The 20th Century to Present Day
In the 20th century to present day, Lombok Island has experienced a period of tremendous growth and transformation. In 1942, during World War II, the island was occupied by Japanese forces until 1945 when it declared independence from Indonesia. Since then, Lombok has become an increasingly popular tourist destination as its beaches and natural beauty have become more widely known around the world. The island’s infrastructure has also seen significant improvement in recent years with new roads being built across the region and improved access to transportation between islands. Additionally, Lombok is home to numerous resorts that offer visitors luxurious accommodations while still allowing them to experience all of what this beautiful Indonesian paradise has to offer. With its rich cultural heritage and stunning landscape, there is no doubt that Lombok Island will continue to be a popular destination for years to come.
Mandalika Urban and Tourism Infrastructure
The Mandalika tourism development area is a large-scale tourism project located on the island of Lombok, Indonesia. It is located on the south coast of the island, in the Central Lombok district, and covers an area of approximately 1,172 hectares. The project is being developed by the Indonesian government and private investors, and is intended to become a major destination for tourists, both domestic and international.
The Mandalika tourism development area is being developed as a mixed-use project, with a variety of facilities and attractions, including hotels, resorts, restaurants, shopping centers, and cultural and recreational activities. The project aims to promote the culture and traditions of Lombok, as well as to provide a range of high-quality tourism experiences for visitors.
The development of the Mandalika tourism area is part of the Indonesian government’s efforts to promote the country as a major tourist destination and to boost economic development in the region. The project is expected to create jobs and stimulate economic growth in Lombok, and to contribute to the overall development of the Indonesian tourism industry.
Summary
Lombok Island is an interesting destination due to its rich cultural and historical heritage, as well as its stunning natural beauty. The island is home to many ancient temples, including the iconic Pura Lingsar Temple, which is a cultural and spiritual center for both Hindu and Muslim communities. The island is also home to many beautiful beaches, including the popular Kuta Beach, as well as a number of breathtaking waterfalls and rice terraces. Yoga as a Tool for Stress Relief
In today’s fast-paced world, stress has become an inevitable part of life. From demanding jobs to personal challenges, people often find themselves overwhelmed by the weight of their daily responsibilities. While stress is a natural response to pressure, prolonged exposure can lead to physical, emotional, and mental health issues. Fortunately, yoga provides an ancient, holistic approach to managing and alleviating stress.
At Maa Shakti Yog Bali, we believe in the transformative power of yoga, not only as a physical practice but as a profound tool for emotional and mental well-being. Yoga as a stress-relief tool is gaining widespread recognition because of its ability to harmonize the body, mind, and spirit. Let’s dive into how yoga can help you regain balance and reduce stress.
1. The Mind-Body Connection in Yoga
One of the core principles of yoga is the mind-body connection. Stress often manifests physically, through symptoms like muscle tension, headaches, or digestive problems. Similarly, when our bodies are tense or unwell, our minds can feel overwhelmed or anxious.
Through asanas (postures), pranayama (breath control), and meditation, yoga strengthens the link between the mind and body. This synergy helps us become more aware of how stress impacts us physically and emotionally, allowing us to take mindful steps toward healing.
Asanas: The physical postures in yoga help release tension stored in muscles. Poses like Balasana (Child's Pose) and Savasana (Corpse Pose) are especially effective for relaxation. Gentle stretching and mindful movements promote the release of endorphins, the body's natural stress-relieving hormones.
Pranayama: Breathwork is a powerful technique for calming the mind and reducing stress. Practices like Nadi Shodhana (Alternate Nostril Breathing) and Ujjayi (Victorious Breath) activate the parasympathetic nervous system, slowing the heart rate and promoting relaxation.
Meditation: Incorporating meditation into your yoga practice can help center your thoughts and reduce mental clutter. Techniques like mindfulness and guided visualization bring awareness to the present moment, offering a break from the constant barrage of worries.
2. Reducing Cortisol Levels
One of the main hormones involved in stress response is cortisol, which is produced by the adrenal glands. While cortisol is essential for managing short-term stress, chronic stress keeps cortisol levels elevated, leading to anxiety, insomnia, and even weight gain.
Several studies show that yoga helps lower cortisol levels in the body. Regular practice encourages relaxation and allows the body to shift from a "fight or flight" state to a "rest and digest" state. This change results in lower cortisol production, which in turn reduces anxiety and promotes overall well-being.
3. Promoting Emotional Resilience
Yoga teaches us how to respond to challenges with equanimity, both on and off the mat. Life will always have its stressful moments, but how we handle these moments can significantly impact our mental health. By practicing yoga regularly, we train our minds to remain calm, even when external circumstances are chaotic.
At Maa Shakti Yog Bali, we emphasize yoga’s potential to cultivate emotional resilience. This mental strength is crucial in navigating life’s challenges without becoming overwhelmed. By staying present and connected to our breath, we can develop the capacity to face stress without letting it consume us.
4. Improving Sleep Quality
Poor sleep is both a cause and effect of stress. When we are stressed, falling asleep can be difficult due to racing thoughts or restlessness. Conversely, lack of sleep exacerbates stress, creating a vicious cycle.
Yoga, particularly restorative practices like Yin Yoga and Yoga Nidra, promotes deep relaxation and improves sleep quality. Yin Yoga stretches connective tissues and calms the nervous system, while Yoga Nidra, also known as "yogic sleep," is a guided relaxation practice that leads to profound mental rest. With better sleep, you’ll wake up feeling more refreshed and better equipped to handle life’s challenges.
5. Mindfulness and Stress Relief
Mindfulness is a state of active, open attention to the present. Rather than worrying about the future or dwelling on the past, mindfulness encourages us to experience each moment fully. Yoga and mindfulness go hand in hand; through mindful movement and breath awareness, we can anchor ourselves in the present moment.
At Maa Shakti Yog Bali, we integrate mindfulness techniques into our yoga classes, helping students focus on the here and now. By staying present during practice, you can train your mind to release stress and cultivate a sense of peace, even amidst life’s inevitable ups and downs.
6. Creating a Personal Stress-Relief Routine
One of the most effective ways to manage stress is to develop a consistent yoga practice. While attending classes or retreats can be incredibly beneficial, it's also important to establish a routine at home. A simple daily practice that includes a few yoga poses, breathwork, and meditation can make a profound difference in how you handle stress.
Here’s a sample yoga sequence for stress relief:
Child's Pose (Balasana) – This gentle resting pose calms the nervous system and allows for deep relaxation.
Cat-Cow Pose (Marjaryasana-Bitilasana) – Moving between these two poses relieves tension in the spine and synchronizes breath with movement.
Forward Fold (Uttanasana) – A deep stretch that relaxes the mind and releases tension from the back and hamstrings.
Legs Up the Wall (Viparita Karani) – This restorative pose soothes tired legs, calms the mind, and reduces anxiety.
Savasana (Corpse Pose) – The ultimate relaxation pose that allows you to absorb the benefits of your practice.
Final Thoughts
Yoga is not a quick fix, but a lifelong tool for managing stress and maintaining balance. By incorporating yoga into your daily routine, you can foster a deeper connection with yourself and develop a healthy way to cope with life’s stressors.
At Maa Shakti Yog Bali, we are passionate about sharing the holistic benefits of yoga for stress relief. Whether you're a beginner or a seasoned practitioner, our Yoga Teacher Training programs in Bali offer an immersive experience to deepen your practice and explore the full potential of yoga as a transformative tool.
Embrace yoga as a journey, not just a destination, and watch how it empowers you to navigate stress with grace, resilience, and inner peace.
