House of Mouse Hot Takes
Hello and recently i started watching House of Mouse episodes kindly provided by my good friend @fixthecukooclock (go follow her she makes good art) and i gotta say this show is one of my childhood faves but sadly i dont remember a lot of it so when i started watching it was a whiplash to the 2000's to the good, the bad and the cringey, so join me in these Hot takes of the first 3 episodes, Season 1 of House of Mouse.
Episode 1 "The Stolen Cartoons"
A very good pilot i really enjoyed it, it really shows how the general structure of how the episodes are gonna be and i loved seeing Mickey getting anxious and mad it was sort of refreshing since we dont see a lot of recent media where Mickey has negative emotions so that was great, Huey, Dewey and Louie in their Quack Pack designs and their band names are "The Quackstreet Boys" made me cringe but overall a good and funny episodes.
Episode 2 Big Bad Wolf Daddy
That intro of Mr. Toad getting arrested is something i thought i would never see
Ok the song that the Big Bad Wolf sings was so good i was kinda jamming to it i loved seeing Mortimer bringing Mickey's paper like a dog was hilarious
and also i loved the short where Goofy goes through different decades of fashion and pop culture references especially the 70's one with that Saturday Night Fever reference.
Overall another good and funny episode.
Episode 3 The Three Caballeros
So i do remember seeing this episode since it was my first exposure to the three caballeros so again funny and good episode.
Donald crying in a corner because nobody remeber he is part of the caballeros is a whole mood.
Although we didn't see a lot of them i loved seeing Panchito (sadly he's not voiced by Jaime Camill but still good voice) and Jose making their dramatic entrances and i loved this new version of The three caballeros song and there overall perfomance.
No surprise i loved this episode it has the three cabs and Disney you should release an album of the three Cabs i would buy it.

“I thought you were still into your birth pack, you’re so young!” exclaimed Jaimes’ teacher, his shock concelead between thick foggy glasses. He shrugged, still clutching his emergency contact form. He didn’t feel the need to explain yet again why he had begun his own pack, not to another professor who would look at him differently.
The silence went for a few seconds, before the teacher flushed and accepted his form. “Of course, it’s none of my business. I’ll register them.”
“Thank you.” Jaime said curtly, rejoigning his friends outside the classroom. They said nothing, feeling his irritation, and soon were gossiping about a potentiel new packmate.
“I’m telling you ze’s not ready. I approched ze last week and ze said he wanted some more time. I know Antoine would love another omega in the pack but it’s too soon.” The three girls pouted but didn’t press the issue further. They did continue talking about ze’s haircut and jawline, tittering around him.
---
“Jaime !” The boy turned around, letting his backpack fell to the ground as Isaiah launched himself in his arms. The omega wasn’t so shy now that he had a support system and Jaime had grown used to hug attacks.
“Yes?” He asked, voice muffled in the sweatshirt of his packmate - who seemed to have grown again this past week.
“We’ve been looking for you, Camille’s spoken to Antoine and ze’s willing to try.” The omega was beaming and Jaime smiled as well. He wasn’t as invested as everyone else in getting a new packmate, but Camille was funny.
“Did you speak to Satsuki too ?” His status as Alpha made him look like a leader, and they used it in school and with other packs because it was easier than explaining it all, but Satsuki was the nominal leader. She enjoyed ordering them around way too much for him to ever steal her rank.
“Yes, she texted me, look. She’s still suspended after decking Liam’s beta, but she deserved it.” The taller boy fished his phone out of his pocket, letting Jaime see the texts. He wasn’t going to comment on the fight - after all, he was the one who’d instigated it - but he nodded, linking their hands to walk back to their classroom.
“She’s not bothering you anymore ? That beta ?” He didn’t smell her scent on Isaiah, but you never knew what she could do.
“Nope ! Liam forbade her to come near me, so she’s running in the other direction as soon as we see each other. She left half of her lunch last time I went to the cafetaria.” Who knew Isaiah had a vengeful streak ?

^ These are the fandoms and characters I am most familiar with and can strive to write with. However there are RULES!^
1. No smut whatsoever sorry. I know Game of Thrones is in the list and is positively based around the sex scenes etc, it makes me cringe just attempting to write it.
2. Give me time. Don't pester me constantly if I've seen your request because chances are I have and just need the initiative and motivation to want to write it, to feel it happen you know?
3. No personals, it will be strictly be Y/N only as there is a reason we have pen names. For privacy and anonymity.
4. (not a rule) you can inquire about other fandoms and maybe a character I've forgotten to mention above I'm open to suggestions but I'll let you know if I'm up to date and can do your request given that I might not always be able. The most important thing is to have fun and request away!

Characters in DuckTales where I prefer their original versions:
Scrooge McDuck - As great as the 2017 series’ Scrooge is, he is very notably different from how the character is traditionally depicted, being more of a Doctor Who-esque ageless semi-immortal character with more of a cocky, boastful youthful energy to him and a more pronounced “for it’s own sake” love of adventuring, thrill-seeking, and making bold new discoveries. The 87 version is much closer to a comics-accurate characterization, and was allowed to be the star of the show who featured in pretty much every episode (as opposed to 17 Scrooge who sits some episodes out). And while David Tennant is pitch-perfect as the version of Scrooge he’s playing, Alan Young simply WAS Scrooge McDuck. No voice could be more fitting.
Huey, Dewey, and Louie - True, the nephews in the 87 series were more interchangeable in terms of characterization and all voiced by Russi Taylor. But this too is closer to how they’re traditionally portrayed in Disney media, and it made for less chances of them falling prey to bad writing and obnoxiousness like the versions of them seen in Quack Pack or the 17 series. While I like Huey and Louie in the 17 series and can tolerate Dewey on his better days, I’m not sure the “updates” given to them were really required. The nephews operating as a single unit is fine. If it ain’t broke, don’t fix it.
Duckworth - This character was created for the 87 series and that’s naturally where he gets to be around more and display more character as opposed to a ghost who pops up every now and then.
Magica De Spell - Much like Scrooge, I love Magica in the 17 series, she works very well for what she’s supposed to be there and is one of my top favorite villains in that show, but the 87 version is a lot closer to the character from the Barks comics, actually gets to act as one of Scrooge’s personal arch foes as opposed to the show just telling us that she is but only having her and Scrooge directly interact twice (and Catherine Tate was cast specifically ‘cause she’d play well off of David Tennant’s Scrooge so what the Hell?), and is generally more fun to watch, especially since June Foray WAS the character.
Ma Beagle and the Beagle Boys - The 17 series’ take on the Beagle Boys is one of the aspects of it that just never clicked with me compared to the 87 series. The 87 versions simply have better looking designs, operate more like actual criminals rather than white trash junkyard hooligans, and had far more of a recurring and prominent presence on their show, which better honors the comics. Ma Beagle is pretty good in both shows, but again, June Foray’s voice acting for one of them helps that version stand out a little more.
Don Karnage - Obviously. Karnage was created for Tale Spin, he looks better as a red wolf than he does as a dog-face character, had a more recurring and prominent presence on that show, and while I do enjoy Jaime Camil’s portrayal of DT Don Karnage, he’s just got nothing on Jim Cummings’ original take, which is simply irreplaceable and impossible to imitate, particularly his iconic multilateral accent.
Drake Mallard/Darkwing Duck - Another case where as good as the new version is, the original cannot ever be fully replicated
Gosalyn Waddlemeyer - The original cannot ever be fully replicated.
Steelbeak - See the above two, and in Darkwing Duck he pretty much carried F.O.W.L all by himself. Jason Mantzoukas gives an entertaining and somewhat more rooster-like vocal performance for his Steelbeak, but Rob Paulsen’s suave voice and delivery for the original character has a certain charm to it that just can’t be beat.
Negaduck - The Jim Starling version in DT17 was great, but we last saw him having just turned into Negaduck so we didn’t get too good a feel for him beyond that one episode. Original Negaduck had more of a recurring and prominent presence on his show, so he wins out.
Characters in Ducktales where I prefer their rebooted versions:
Donald Duck - Donald was kind of a nonentity in the 87 series, getting put on a navy boat at the start and then only featuring in a few other episodes. Tony Anselmo was still fairly new to voicing him then, and the lack of friction between him and his family members didn’t feel right - his nephews were typically pests to him in the old cartoons, but this series only showed their loving sides to each other. For all the controversy that surrounds the 17 series’ take on Donald, he has actual character depth and development, with his relationship with his family being far more interesting and layered, and we get more classic Donald comedy gags from him too, so he’s the GOAT.
Webby Vanderquack - The original Webby had practically zero personality beyond being the Token Girl character and stereotypically saccharine pwecious widdle child tagalong sidekick trope, which made her more irritating than endearing. The new Webby could not be more opposite - her series sees her receiving some actual character development, forging great relationships and being a very lovable character with a strong personality who serves far more of a purpose to the show and to the family on adventures than simply a Token Girl/Tagalong Kid. She’s pretty much the heart of the series, with her personal arc being at the core of it’s running narrative.
Bentina Beakley - As with Webby, the original Mrs. Beakley suffered from an irritating, sexist portrayal and not serving that much purpose in most episodes. The new Beakley is a tremendous improvement.
Gyro Gearloose - While the 87 series’ Gyro is a lot closer to the character from the comics, I judge based on how much interest and enjoyment I have in a character and 87 Gyro, while he could be amusing, was never all that interesting to me. 17 Gyro is just more interesting, deeper and more developed, and thanks to Jim Rash’s voice acting, a helluva lot funnier too. Plus, I even prefer his design.
Gladstone Gander - The 87 series had the benefit of casting Rob Paulsen in the role, which is ideal casting, but otherwise Gladstone was depicted in a much better light than you’d think he should be given Barks’ characterization of him. The ‘17 version by contrast feels more like the insufferably smug, infuriatingly lucky bastard he’s meant to be, and Paul F. Tompkins’ voice acting really helps sell it.
Fenton Crackshell - Fenton in the 87 series was alright, but could be a little too grating in how whiny and perpetually downtrodden he was and he was always overshadowed by his Gizmoduck persona in both that show and in Darkwing Duck. Fenton Crackshell Cabrera in the reboot is infinitely more endearing, likable and interesting as a character in and out of the Gizmo Suit, really owing a lot to the natural charm that Lin-Manuel Miranda brings in his voice acting.
Mama Cabrera is also a marked improvement over M’ma Crackshell.
Bubba Duck - The 87 series version was a Scrappy who ruined the show with his presence on it. The 17 series’ version only featured in a single episode, in which he was made an Adaptational Badass and the first of Clan McDuck. Yeah, this one was a no-brainer.
Goldie O’Gilt - Like Gyro, the ‘87 series version is technically more in line with the comics’ character, but I never found her to be particularly interesting. I remembered Scrooge and Glomgold fighting over her more than I remembered her character. Goldie in the ‘17 series is more interesting and memorable as her own character.
Lena De Spell - Minima De Spell technically appeared in a DuckTales comic based on the cartoon, but she was basically just Webby with an evil witch aesthetic. Lena is radically different from Minima in ways that make her an improvement in every respect.
Gandra Dee - Despite not being at all a parody of Sandra Dee like the name suggests, 17 series Gandra is an improvement over the original 87 series character, who only existed to give Fenton grief.
The Phantom Blot - The Blot in the 87 series was a typical Saturday Morning Cartoon supervillain with a Cobra Commander-esque voice, while the Blot in the 17 series was a stealer of magic with a voice like the Shredder from the 80′s Teenage Mutant Ninja Turtles. Neither one of them are at all like the classic comics’ character, but between the two, 17 Blot is a better 80′s villain parody with more distinction and a better usage in the plots he’s featured in, so I prefer him.
F.O.W.L - This group was underwhelming in both the original 87 DuckTales and in Darkwing Duck. Aside from Steelbeak, no one to come out of F.O.W.L was particularly noteworthy. It works way better as an evil organization in the reboot due to a wider assortment of members who we get to better know the personalities and personal motivations of, and a much better leader in Bradford Buzzard.
Characters in Ducktales who I feel equally about both versions:
Launchpad McQuack - If we were comparing and contrasting both DuckTales, the 87 version of Launchpad might be the one I find to be just a little better than his rebooted incarnation. However, then we factor in Darkwing Duck, where Launchpad’s characterization slightly differed from 87 DuckTales. 17 Launchpad actually bridges the gap between the two portrayals within a single characterization, so I have to commend that as well. Overall I’d say they’re both great as are.
Flintheart Glomgold - The 87 version is actually named Flintheart Glomgold by birth and is a more accurate, if not watered down, version of Barks’ character who’s actually an “evil twin” and worthy opponent to Scrooge, with the two of them standing on an even ground as business rivals. But the 17 version, despite having the birth name of Duke Baloney and not really being that at all, is easily a more interesting and entertaining character who can get away with applying Barks’ Glomgold’s more ruthless and evil tactics so long as he remains cartoonish and idiotic. So again, both of them work.
Doofus Drake - The 87 version of Doofus was a good guy character but was an obnoxious stereotype of a fat dweeby kid and thus not particularly likable. The 17 version is an antagonist, thus isn’t meant to be likable, but is even more off-putting a presence thanks to the new context behind him and how dark they push it (why’s his name still Doofus if he’s not exactly a doofus but instead a total nutcase?). It’s kind of a “pick your poison” deal, and I’m not a fan either way.
Gene the Genie - Both versions come from the long ago year of 1990 and both work fine for what they are, no complaints here.
Taurus Bulba - Both versions of him are very different yet equally menacing types of villains, with perfect looking designs and pitch perfect voice acting from Tim Curry and James Igleheart respectively.
