Other Uses for Packaging
I waved goodbye to the customers — other humans this time — then sat back and waited for the trash pickup. I didn’t blame them for not wanting to take all the packing material out into the spaceport. They hadn’t brought a hovercart or forklift, and had been unprepared for the huge crate full of bubble wrap and foam.
Other times, our little courier ship had done deliveries where time was short or regulations were tight, and all we would have been able to do was advise them on where to rent a hovercart or buy a crowbar. Luckily for these customers’ convenience and my conscience, today we could stick around and help them unpack the custom end table or whatever that was.
They’d left happy, with something much easier to carry, and Captain Sunlight had headed for the cockpit to call in the station’s trash crew. (Apparently this was a regular feature at this space dock, which was a nice change from the last few where we’d had to move the ship’s garbage over to the trash area under our own power.)
Zhee looked over the crate that he’d just taken great joy in disassembling. “Wood may be valuable here,” he said with a thoughtful click of a pincher arm. “If not to the station at large, then surely to another ship. I wonder if the captain thought of that.”
I glanced back at the open cargo bay. “Probably?”
“Probably,” Zhee agreed.
We were both silent for a moment while the spaceport bustled around us.
“I’m going to check,” he said, tapping his way up the ramp on his many bug feet. “Make sure none of that blows away.”
“Sure thing.” I looked at the piles. The only breeze in here was the faint wafting of ventilation systems and the occasional gentle landing of other ships at a safe distance, but I understood the impulse to be careful. That one package awhile ago, full of styrofoam beads, had been memorable. And terrible. The darn stuff was almost as bad as glitter, what with the way it stuck to things with static electricity. Nobody wanted a repeat of that.
This set of packaging was much better. The boards made a tidy stack, the foam was in rubbery sheets that didn’t leak bits everywhere, and even the bubble wrap was in long rows instead of individual panels. This was no top-of-the-line cryo suspension or force field generator, but it was respectable.
I organized the mess a bit while I waited. The rest of the crew either had stuff to do on the ship or out in the station, so despite all the ambient noise, things were quiet.
I started rolling up the bubble wrap, thinking someone might want to use it again, but found that many of the bubbles had gotten popped in the disassembly, leaving it only good for one thing.
The first bubble popped with a satisfying snap. By the third I’d pinpointed which direction the sounds were echoing from most, and I enjoyed the different noises I could get by tilting my head. None of the pedestrians were close enough to pay much attention, so I happily worked my way down the roll. I’d seen multiple other types of bubble wrap, some made by different cultures and different materials, and most of them didn’t actually pop. What a simple joy to find the regular old Earth kind again.
Mur’s voice from the cargo bay asked, “What’s making that sound?”
I sighed and turned. “Don’t tell me, this is another swear word in your language.”
Mur waved a tentacle. “No, of course not. I just wanted to know what’s breaking out here. It sounded like a problem.”
Before I could answer, Paint appeared behind him in a rush. “Is there a problem??”
“No,” I hurried to say. “Everything’s fine. It’s just bubble wrap. See?” I held up the section I’d been working on and popped another bubble.
Paint winced. “Is there something wrong with it?”
“No, it’s just garbage.” I rolled up the part I’d already flattened, then twisted it to pop the next row all at once.
“Okay, that almost sounded like a swear word,” Mur admitted.
I had to laugh at that. “Of course it did.”
Blip and Blop hurried out to join the growing crowd in the cargo bay. “What keeps breaking?” Blip asked, frills waving anxiously.
“It’s just bubble wrap!” I exclaimed. “See?” I held it up and popped another one.
Instead of nodding and going back to whatever they’d been doing, my alien coworkers remained perplexed. “Why does it keep popping?” Blop asked. “Are you doing that?”
“Yes!” I exclaimed.
“Why?” asked both Frillians at once. Paint and Mur also looked curious.
“Because it’s fun?” I replied, scrambling for an answer. I hadn’t thought this needed explaining. But apparently it did.
Paint asked, “How is that noise fun?”
“Well, it echoes—”
“You don’t need to worry about condensing materials for the trash pickup, if that’s the concern,” Mur said.
“Yes, I know—”
“Are there food items on your planet that you have to open like this?” Blip asked. “Large fish eggs, maybe?”
“No, ew! It’s just—”
A shadow loomed taller than the Frillian twins. “It is violensssss,” Trrili hissed, making them twitch. (I don’t know how she found a shadow in the cargo bay. Sometimes I think she brings them with her.) “Small-scale, sanctioned violence. These can be destroyed without repurcussionssssss.” She was choosing which words to hiss on, for effect.
“Sure,” I said, spreading my arms and lifting the bubble wrap. “Let’s go with that.”
Trrili wasn’t done. “Each tiny section can be crusssshed individually, with precision, or multiples at once for maximum volume.” She glided forward on quieter feet than Zhee’s, and the others made room for her.
I held out the bubble wrap. “You want a turn?” Her pincher arms didn’t seem suited to it, but I was curious to see where she’d go with this.
“Plasssssse it on the floor.”
“Sure.” I flapped the row out in front of her like a red carpet, and she moved like the predator she was to crush one after the other. With precision. And shiny black bug feet.
It gave me an idea. “Hey, wanna see who’s faster?” I grabbed another section and laid it out to one side. “You’ve got more feet, but my shoes are bigger.”
Trrili spread her mandibles in her favorite creepy smile. “Challenge acssssssepted.” She crouched like a spider and waited for me to be ready.
I glanced back at the others. “Anybody else wanna race?”
Mur spun on his tentacles and scooted back into the ship. “No thanks! I’m going back where it’s quieter.”
“Me too,” Paint said. “But thank you!” She scampered off.
Blip and Blop looked at each other in silence for a moment, fins waving. Then they turned to me. “We’ll judge,” Blip announced.
“All right!” I said. I wrangled my own section of bubble wrap, roughly the same length as Trrili’s, and struck my own ready pose. “Say when!”
The twins chorused, “Start!” and we were off. Pops filled the air along with Trrili’s delighted hisses and my laughter. There were probably people staring, but that didn’t matter.
Maybe I could talk Trrili into a dance-off afterward. On whatever was left when one of us was declared the champion of small-scale, sanctioned violence.

How to build your first fursuit head for ~$100 USD (2023)
What’s good furries? I’m sure a lot of you have a fursona and want to make your first fursuit. I recommend starting with a partial just in case you mess up or fall out of the hobby. It’s also less expensive!
This tutorial will only cover the head. I haven’t made any of the other stuff and I’m probably going to buy it online premade because I’m lazy.
1.) Have a reference sheet for your fursona.
If you are an artist, draw (the best you can) a reference sheet of your fursona from the front, side, and back. I made a little turnaround animation for mine, but this is not necessary.
Not an artist? Don’t want to draw? Commission someone to do it for you. I recommend Etsy, but you can find furry artists with open commissions all over the internet.
No money for commissions? You might be out of luck. Ask a friend or draw it the best you can. Alternatively, you can edit someone else’s fursona reference sheet to make it look like your fursona. Yeah, it’s stealing. Just don’t post it and act like it’s yours 👍
You can also go into the Roblox game, Catalogue Avatar Creator, and assemble something that looks kind of like your fursona. Take a screenshot of it from the front, side, and back, then go into a photo editor (I recommend IbisPaint or MediBang Paint, they are both free) and add in your special details.
I recommend not making your first fursuit super complicated or some kind of rare species. But you do you. It will just be really hard.
Also determine what style of fursuit you want. Toony? Kemono? Realistic? (I don’t recommend realistic for your first fursuit but you do you). This will be important later.
2.) Find Shit to Build It With
Once again, I recommend Etsy. You’ll need:
+ all the fur colors you need (try 2-3)
+ eye mesh
+ 3D printed mask
+ hot glue gun and hot glue sticks (dollar store)
+ needle and thread (dollar store or Walmart)
+ balaclava
+ styrofoam head
+ fabric scissors
+ extra foam pieces for ears or horns
Assemble all of that. It should be around $80-120 USD.
Your 3D printed mask is the most important thing. Another reason to get a relatively common species. Mine was a dragon. Remember the fursuit style you picked earlier? Search on etsy “3d printed [style] [species] furry mask” and you should be able to find one. You can also get pre-made foam heads. I don’t recommend trying to make your own head base, because A) it’s hard and B) those materials cost more money.
This shit will take a while to come in so don’t get too excited about it. My mask took like a month because it came from Germany.
3.) Mark the Color Spots on your Head Base
Basically just take a sharpie and outline the different color regions on your headbase. You can also use a pencil if you’re a pussy /j
4.) Uhhhh Eyeball That Fabric Pattern and Hot Glue the Pieces to Your Headbase
Some people use duct tape to make a pattern. That did not work for me! So I eyeballed it. Made some mistakes. That’s okay.
5.) Trim Down the Fur Length
Most people use clippers for this but I didn’t want to buy any and I didn’t know how to use them so I did it VERY CAREFULLY with scissors.
6.) Fill in the Cracks Between Your Hot Glue Seams With Loose Fur
Look at all this damn fur on the floor! If only there was something to do with it!
Put hot glue between the super visible seams where you hotglued different pieces of fabric next to each other, then pack in some of that loose fur. Cut it down if it’s too long. The seams will be less visible.
7.) Hot Glue the Eye Mesh Behind the Eye Holes
VERY CAREFULLY hot glue this so your character isn’t cross-eyed. You can try follow-me eyes but I didn’t do that with mine.
8.) Add Your Extra Details
You know like whiskers or plastic teeth or a tongue or anything else you want to put on there.
Now you’re done with the mask part.
9.) CAREFULLY Hot Glue Your Balaclava to the Inside of the Mask
The eye hole should be where your eye mesh is so that you can see out. Also make sure some of the balaclava is glued to the top of the mask.
10.) Weigh Down Your Styrofoam Head With a Heavy Rock
Or put it on a stand. Or hot glue it to the table. Whatever works.
11.) Put the Balaclava that you Glued to the Mask on the Styrofoam Head
Pretty simple. The reason we weighed down the styrofoam head is because the front of your mask will be heavy and make it fall over while you’re trying to work.
12.) ????? Put Fur On the Balaclava
You’ll also need to like add some fur connecting the sides of the mask to the balaclava. Hard to explain. You’ll probably figure it out?
13.) Trim that Fur and Put the Trimmings in the Seams Like Before
14.) Take it off of the Styrofoam Head
You may need to cut a slit in the back of the neck of your fursuit head. Not only will it help get the styrofoam head out, now your head can get in and out too!
15.) Put it on
Edit it if something is wrong. It might feel crooked but it’s probably not.
16.) Enjoy!
Hopefully this was helpful! This is how made mine.

EVA Foam Detailing
Since I’m currently working on a new panel for EVA foam detailing, sharing an abbreviated version of this so that I actually have some posts on my account. This is definitely not a complete list of every technique that could work, but these are ones that I have used before and found to be quite useful.
Sanding
This is probably the most well-known technique for detailing. A rotary tool is a must-have for working with EVA foam since it’s such a versatile tool. A basic sanding drum is great for beveling edges or carving in battle-damage and weathering. Grinding stone tips can smooth and even out sanding. Depending on how the tips are angled on the surface, you can create a hammered metal look, soft leather-like crinkles, or circles that look like screws or bolts. Sanding is also the single best way to clean up rough seams. Be sure to wear a respirator and eye protection when sanding since the foam will generate a LOT of dust. You will your workspace will get covered with dust.
Burning
A soldering iron or wood burning iron can be used for detailing. These hot tools can be used to engrave precise or geometric lines or can be used to create a feather texture. These can also be used to make more organic textures like wood grain. Very much like a rotary tool, a wood burning or soldering iron has endless possibilities only limited by creativity. The foam can be easily burned through, especially when it is a thinner sheet (1-3 mm). Burning foam creates very nasty fumes so be sure to work outside with a respirator on.
Heat stamping
This is a more subtle technique but can still be very useful. The most common application is using crumpled tin foil to make a leather texture. Once foam has been heated up evenly (using a heat gun), it can pick up the texture of anything pressed against it.
Google eyes
For a cheap and easy way to get rivets or bolts, try using googly eyes. Once these are painted over, they can blend in perfectly (just don’t shake the armor or prop because they will rattle). Though real rivets can be used (that is my next point), googly eyes are easy to install and are very easy to find in a variety of sizes. These can be glued down with pretty much any type of glue.
Metal hardware
If authenticity is the goal, eyelets and rivets can be installed into EVA foam. The key to these is leather hole punches. You can buy these either as a pack of hole punchers or as a single tool that operates a lot like a paper hole puncher. For real leather or fabric, these are normally hammered into the material to generate a hole. Because EVA foam is so soft, a twisting motion works better for cutting a hole without crushing the surface. Eyelets will require a bit of glue but rivets have two separate ends that snap together nicely without any adhesive. O rings and metal buckles can also help with making realistic-looking armor.
Foam clay
Foam clay is an obsession of mine, but I have to admit that it is a detailing material and only works for specific tasks. Foam clay is great for adding organic textures like bone, monster skin, etc. It can be free sculpted some, but is limited due to being such a soft clay. It sticks to EVA foam without any glue required. It can be sanded or burned once it is completely dry to add more texture. It can be used to fill deep gaps in seams. It can also be pressed into molds.
Pre-cut bevels and scales
With cosplay becoming more common and mainstream, specialty products are readily available. Bevels are pre-cut strips of foam that can be used as trim. They most often come as half-round or triangular though some shops may carry less common shapes like low profile triangles or trapezoids. Scales are another great pre-fabricated material that can be bought from cosplay supply shops. They are sometimes sold as individual scales in packs of 50-100 or as scales attached to a strip.
Primer manipulation
I just recently discovered this technique while making Gyurato’s blood sickles. When using a brush on primer that has a slower drying time, it can be manipulated while still wet. Pressing something like upholstery foam or a sponge into the primer can add additional rough texture. I also used plastic wrap to add creases and wrinkles to the surface of the dried foam clay. Another thing to keep in mind with primers is that the finish (satin, matte, gloss) can change out a paint looks. Picking the right sheen, like gloss when painting a metallic, can help with achieving the right effect.
Hopefully these tips give you some ideas for future projects.

MOVING ELECTRONICS IN HONG KONG'S RAINY SEASON: IMPORTANT TIPS FROM THE MOVERS
Relocation can be one of the most stressful and irritating experiences one can come across. Add moving delicate and very expensive electronics during Hong Kong's rainy season, and it all starts to turn into a nightmare. From April to September, with the period June to August being the peak one, comes with torrential rainfalls that can be pretty dangerous for electronic devices. It's where careful planning and professional moving expertise come in to play for the safe relocation of your electronics. Here are some vital tips to help guide you through the challenges of moving electronics during this wet season.
Understanding the Challenges
The rainy season in Hong Kong is accompanied by heavy rainfalls, high humidity, and occasional thunderstorms. The kind of weather that can cause all sorts of problems while moving electronics: water damage, short circuits, and malfunctioning due to excessive humidity. Professional movers understand these challenges and have strategies to mitigate the risks.
Pre-Move Preparations
1. Choose Experienced Movers: Get experienced movers who have handling experience in electronics and are conversant with the local climate. It will make the experienced moving company better at anticipating and addressing the particular challenges arising during the rainy season.
2. Inspect and Backup Data: Inspect all devices before the move to ensure they're in working order. Back up important data to avoid loss in case damage occurs during the move.
3. Use Original Packaging: If possible, use the original packaging of the electronics. Such packages are designed to provide maximum safety during movement. If there is no possibility of using the original packaging, high quality, sturdy boxes should be used.
4. Taping and Labelling Boxes: Seal all boxes containing electronics well with waterproof tape to prevent water infiltration. Clearly label these boxes with "Fragile" and "Electronics" so that the movers are warned to handle them with extra care.
Protective Packing Techniques
1. Waterproof Wrapping: Each electronic device should be wrapped in waterproof plastic wrap or placed in waterproof bags for protection from moisture. This is quite important in the case of more sensitive items, like laptops, tabs, and small home appliances.
2. Cushioning Materials: You may use bubble wrap, foam sheets, or even packing peanuts to pad your electronics. Such materials absorb shocks and vibrations during transit that may damage your electronics.
3. Silica Gel Packets: Place silica gel packets inside the boxes. Silica gel has the property of absorbing moisture and helps in keeping the environment inside the box dry, very essential during the rainy season when it is very humid.
Loading and Transportation
1. Climate-Controlled Trucks: Avail those movers who offer climate-controlled trucks. These will provide a safe, stable temperature and humidity for your electronics.
2. Elevate Boxes: Make sure boxes with electronics inside the moving truck stay off the floor and away from water in case of leaks or flooding.
3. Avoid Overloading: The truck should not be overfilled with boxes. The too-many boxes might cause shifting, which may cause breakage. Experts balance and load a truck for safety.
During the Move
1. Watch the Weather: Keep an eye on any bad weather that may be predicted for that day. If extreme weather is forecasted, reschedule for another day or day off to prevent your costly electronics from getting soaked.
2. Offload Fast: On reaching the destination, offload your electronics fast. This ensures they receive the minimum possible exposure to the humid environment. Make sure the new location is dry and ready for the electronics.
3. Check for Water Damage: Upon unpacking, inspect all electronic devices for water damage or malfunction. Plug in the devices to turn them on and check for functionality. If there are any discrepancies, notify the movers immediately so that claims can be filed if needed.
After the Move
1. Dehumidifiers: If needed, use dehumidifiers in your new location to reduce the level of humidity to make your electronics safer.
2. Proper Storage: Keep devices in a cool and dry place if you will not install it immediately. Not in basements or places with high humidity, and also not directly beside windows.
3. Regular Maintenance: Regularly have your devices maintained to keep them in good condition. This includes dusting and checking for dampness problems.
Conclusion The wet season in Hong Kong is really a challenging period to transport electronics, requiring great planning and skill from professional movers. With these tips, you can help your devices be safe from such challenges as soaking and soggy weather. You should always select seasoned movers who are conversant with the local climate and shall provide the relevant precautions for a smooth and safe relocation. Do everything meticulously, and you will be able to get through the rainy season without sacrificing any of your gadgets in the process.

INNOVATIVE WAYS INTERNATIONAL MOVING COMPANY MOVE FRAGILE GOODS
Moving to some other country involves huge planning and care while sending all your stuff to the destination, much more so with breakables. International moving company have devised various methods of efficiently transferring all your fragile items over long distances. This article talks about some advanced techniques and practices used by international movers to help avoid damage to fragile items during transit.
1. Custom Crating Solutions
The most outstanding innovations in the movement of fragile goods are custom crating solutions. Moving companies design and build custom crates for the dimensions and requirements of each type of fragile item. Crates of this nature are developed with robust materials, such as wood or heavy-duty cardboard, and lined by foams or other cushioning materials in order to absorb shocks and restrict movements. Custom crates are very useful in moving large, highly valued, or oddly shaped items like artwork, antiques, and sculptures.
2. Advanced Packing Materials
The quality and grade of the packing materials used constitute another highly critical aspect for safeguarding fragile items. Various specialized materials that international movers use to protect fragile belongings include:
Bubble Wrap: Very good at cushioning and absorbing shocks, suitable for glassware, ceramics, and electronics.
Packing Paper: This is used to wrap each item individually. This will avoid scratches or minor impacts.
Foam Sheets and Peanuts: These fill up empty spaces in the boxes and avoid the shifting of objects within them. They provide extra padding, too.
Edge Protectors: Reinforce corners and edges of items; they are easily susceptible to damage.
These materials withstand the rigors of international transportation, ensuring your fragile items remain intact.
3. Double Boxing Technique
Probably the best measure to protect fragile goods in international moving is going to be the double boxing technique. The process consists of placing the fragile entity in a well-padded smaller box and subsequently in a larger box with more padding material. This double layering for protection of the items will help in absorbing the shocks or vibrations that may occur during transit, thereby providing extra protection from damage. This method applies very well to extremely fragile items, like fine china, sensitive electronics, and small antiques.
4. Climate-Controlled Shipping
These include items that are sensitive to temperature and humidity changes, such as fine arts, musical instruments, and antique furniture. International moving companies provide climate-controlled shipping for these kinds of items to help guard against environmental fluctuations. The use of climate-controlled containers or trucks helps to avoid damage by extreme temperatures, moisture, or dryness; hence, it is very important for the integrity and value maintenance of sensitive fragile items over a long-distance move.
5. Real-Time Tracking and Monitoring
The traditional way of handling fragile items by international moving companies has undergone a sea change with the introduction of technology. Real-time tracking and monitoring systems enable movers and clients to trace, at all times during the journey, the location and condition of their shipment. The progress of the shipment continues to be updated through GPS tracking devices, while temperature, humidity, and even vibration can be constantly monitored by sensors inside the containers. This level of control is very important in ensuring that any problem is addressed on the spot, thereby giving clients peace of mind and greater safety for items of a fragile nature.
6. Expert Handling and Training
The human factor is at work just as much in the safe transport of fragile items. A professional international moving company is serious about investing in the training and expertise of its employees so that fragile items are treated with the care that they need. Moving people have received special training in careful packing, appropriate lifting techniques, and how to handle delicate things best. Such expertise minimizes the risk of accidents and ensures that packing, loading, and unloading of fragile items are done safely.
7. Comprehensive Insurance Coverage
After all the precautions, there can be an accident. Reputable international moving companies provide comprehensive insurance coverage on your fragile items. This could provide clients with financial protection against damage or loss while in transit. Many insurance options will ensure that the values and fragile goods of clients are well protected.
Conclusion Innovative techniques and sophisticated technologies have dramatically changed the way in which international moving companies handle fragile items. This will ensure that treasured possessions are moved safely and securely through advances in custom crating, advanced packing materials, climate-controlled shipping, and real-time monitoring. Such methods, allied with investment in expert handling, help international movers provide clients peace of mind regarding the safety of their fragile items. Knowing the following new techniques can ensure that your fragile goods reach their destination safely when you have another international move lined up.

On the toolkit thing, here's some more pointers:
Dollar stores have tools, usually of decent quality too
Get an all-in-one screwdriver if you can find one
Get robertson head screws (square hole) in 1 1/2" and 2" - robertson screws are easier to install and remove than flat or philips (star/cross) heads and the screwdriver itself doesn't strip as quickly
Electrical tape - not only for cords, but for plumbing and other non-permanent/non-damaging items
Polyfilla and a putty knife can fill almost any hole in drywall and don't require any sanding to make even if you're careful
Caulking fills gaps really well, and bathroom caulking is also water and mold resistant
Spray foam is a cheap and effective insulator for gaps in the walls (just be careful bc that shit is hard to get off)
An adjustable wrench and adjustable pliers (specifically vice-grip curved jaw locking pliers) can solve nearly any issue
Toothpicks and wood glue effectively fill too-loose holes in cabinets. Pack toothpicks dipped in wood glue tightly into a hole, let it set for 24 hours, then come back and cut the excess away with a chisel or boxcutter. You will now be able to re-screw your cabinet door on.
Wood glue can fix most wooden furniture, but may need to be clamped/strapped in position (the tighter the pressure, the closer it will bind)
Pipe cement can stop leaks in outflow pipes (so long as it's allowed to cure)
Other unrelated tips:
NEVER fuck with your electricity. ALWAYS pay for that to be fixed professionally. Same with gas lines.
Plumbing can be fucked with, but don't try to replace whole sections of pipe without knowing what you're doing.
Rugs are superior to carpet. A lot of them (especially mats and runners designed for bathrooms) can be run through a washing machine. They are also easier to replace.
Windex and vim can clean basically everything in your house
Replace your furnace filters regularly (at least once a month if you have animals)
If your windows are drafty/cold in winter, there are plastic sheet kits in hardware stores to seal them up.
Linoleum is a (relatively) cheap and easy-to-usr flooring material that can cover hideous tile or splintering wood.
Cheap glassware is superior to plastic. It doesn't deform or stain and is microwave safe (sometimes even oven safe).
Make sure you know what runs on what electrical breaker
If more than one thing is powered by the breakers that control your furnace or electric stove, get that fixed IMMEDIATELY
Use soft white or yellow coloured light bulbs in rooms you just hang out in (like living rooms/bedrooms) and clear/bright white for utility rooms (bathroom/laundry/furnace rooms/kitchen). It reduces strain on your eyes.
Humans need greenery for our mental health. Put a little plant in each room.
If you're strapped for cash or time, don't buy anything in white. Opt for coloured clothes/sheets/furniture/paint bc it's way easier to maintain and hides dirt better
Mattresses need to be off the floor so they don't grow mold and can regulate your temperature better
Invest in good pillows you can machine wash.
Frozen and canned vegetables are just as good as fresh ones
Cooking roasts from frozen keeps the moisture in better than letting it thaw
You can do a lot with garlic plus and margarine
Real wooden furniture - even second-hand - is always superior to particle board furniture. It lasts much longer, is easier to repair and can be refinished if necessary.
Thick-bottomed stainless steel pots will last you a lifetime - if you have the money for a set, they're well worth it.
Dollar stores have glasses, utensils and poreclain dishware. If you're in a pinch, they're good and sturdy.
If you have a yard, invest in a mitre saw (for tree branches), an iron/steel spade, a metal rake and a metal snow shovel (if necessary) - all with wooden shafts. Plastic gets brittle through the cold. Also, a good bucket never goes awry.
Shop vacs can vacuum up water and medium-sized debris if the filter is removed.
For sandpaper, the lower the number, the more aggressive the grit is. Higher numbers produce finer sands.
things i wish i had known when i escaped my family household and couldn't ask my parents for help
invest in a good mattress early on. there are many other ends you can save on - sleep is not one of them. this is key to how much energy you'll have throughout the day
you don't need a bedframe but you do need a slatted bed base (even if it's just pallets)
opening a bank account is easy
there's youtube tutorials for everything. how to install your washing machine, how to use tools, fixing stuff around the place. channels like dad, how do i? are a godsend

7 Practical Ideas For Moving Electronics
Moving electronics with the assistance of a removalist Maitland can be a daunting task, as these items are often delicate, valuable, and integral to daily life. Ensuring their safe transport requires careful planning and practical techniques to minimise the risk of damage during the move.
To make the process smoother, here are some practical ideas for moving your electronics safely and efficiently.
Back-Up Important Data
Before packing any electronics, it is crucial to back up important data. Computers, phones, and tablets can store a wealth of personal and professional information, which could be lost or damaged during transit. Use cloud storage services, external hard drives, or USB flash drives to create copies of essential files. This not only protects valuable data but also offers peace of mind in case anything goes wrong. If any files are irreplaceable, make multiple backups using different storage methods for extra security.
Organise Cables And Accessories
Loose cables can easily get tangled, lost, or damaged during a move, creating unnecessary headaches when setting up your electronics again. Before packing, gather all cables, chargers, and accessories associated with each device. Use zip ties, twist ties, or Velcro straps to neatly bundle each cable, and label them for quick identification. Consider using ziplock bags to store smaller accessories like USB drives, adapters, or batteries. You can also take a photo of the cable setup before disconnecting them to make reassembly more straightforward.
Use Original Packaging If Available
The original packaging for electronics is designed to protect them during transportation, featuring custom-fit foam or padding that absorbs shock. If you still have the original boxes for your devices, use them when packing for the move. These boxes not only fit the items perfectly but also help to keep them secure. If the original packaging is not available, find boxes of similar size and use foam or bubble wrap to fill any gaps. Double-boxing may also be an option for added protection; place the packed item in a larger box filled with additional cushioning.
Invest In High-Quality Packing Materials
Electronics are fragile and often expensive, making high-quality packing materials a wise investment. Bubble wrap, foam sheets, anti-static packing materials, and sturdy boxes can all help ensure safe transportation. Anti-static bubble wrap or packing peanuts are especially useful for sensitive electronic components, as static electricity can cause internal damage. When packing, make sure to cover screens with microfiber cloths or foam to prevent scratches, and wrap each item securely to avoid shifting within the box. Proper padding is essential to prevent impact damage during transit.
Label Boxes Clearly
Labelling is a simple yet effective way to reduce the risk of damage. Clearly label each box that contains electronics with "Fragile" and "This Side Up" stickers. This helps those handling the boxes understand the need for extra care. Additionally, write a brief description of the contents, such as "laptop and accessories" or "home entertainment system." This not only aids in proper handling but also makes unpacking easier, as you will know which boxes contain which devices. For complex setups, consider labelling cables and components individually to streamline reassembly.
Transport Electronics Separately
If possible, transport valuable or sensitive electronics in your vehicle instead of the moving truck. The backseat or trunk of a car offers a more controlled environment compared to the back of a moving truck, where items can shift significantly during transit. By keeping electronics with you, you can ensure they remain upright, protected from extreme temperatures, and shielded from potential accidents. Small but essential devices, such as laptops, tablets, or gaming consoles, can be easily accommodated in the car, while larger items may still need to be securely packed in the moving truck.
Let Electronics Acclimate Before Plugging In
Once your electronics have reached the new location, it is important to let them acclimate to the new environment before powering them on. Rapid changes in temperature or humidity can cause condensation to form inside devices, which may lead to short circuits or other damage. Allowing electronics to sit for a few hours will help them adjust to the ambient temperature and reduce the risk of internal moisture. This is especially important for items like computers, televisions, and sound systems. By giving your devices time to settle, you can help ensure a smooth and safe setup in the new space.
Moving electronics safely requires a thoughtful approach to packing, transporting, and setting up each item. By taking steps like backing up data, organising cables, using quality packing materials, and letting electronics acclimate before use, you can significantly reduce the risk of damage and make the moving process much more manageable. Following these practical ideas will help protect your electronics and ensure they continue to function smoothly in their new environment.

Expert Tips for Fragile Items Relocation
Use Quality Packing Materials:
Invest in bubble wrap, foam sheets, and sturdy boxes. Avoid reusing old boxes that may not provide adequate protection.
2 . Wrap Each Item Individually:
For delicate items like glass or ceramics, wrap each piece separately with multiple layers of bubble wrap or packing paper to cushion them from impact.
3 . Label Fragile Boxes Clearly:
Mark the boxes containing fragile items with "FRAGILE" labels on all sides. This alerts movers to handle these boxes with extra care.
4 . Cushion the Bottom and Top of Boxes:
Place a layer of packing peanuts or crumpled paper at the bottom of the box and another layer at the top to absorb shock during movement.
5 . Avoid Empty Spaces:
Fill any gaps in the boxes with foam, paper, or packing peanuts to prevent shifting during transit. Loose items can bump into each other and break.
6 . Pack Heavier Items at the Bottom:
When placing fragile items in a box, ensure that heavier pieces are at the bottom, with lighter, more delicate pieces on top.
7 . Seal Boxes Tightly:
Use strong packing tape to securely seal the box. Double tape the seams for added strength, especially for heavier or bulkier fragile items.
8 . Consider Double Boxing:
For extremely fragile or valuable items, place the packed box inside a larger one with extra padding between the two boxes for added protection.
9 . Hire Professional Movers:
If you're uncertain about packing delicate items, consider hiring professional packers who have experience handling fragile goods safely.
10 . Insure High-Value Items:
For extra peace of mind, ensure your valuables are covered by insurance during the move. This will protect you financially in case of any unexpected damage.

How to Handle Fragile Items with FBA Prep and Ship-Important
When it comes to selling products on Amazon, using the Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) service can streamline your operations and enhance customer satisfaction. However, handling fragile items with FBA Prep and Ship-Important requires careful planning and execution. Proper preparation and shipping techniques are crucial to ensure that your fragile products arrive at their destination intact. In this blog, we’ll explore the best practices for managing fragile items through FBA, emphasizing the importance of FBA Prep and Ship-Important.
Understanding FBA and Its Importance
Fulfillment by Amazon (FBA) is a service that allows sellers to store their products in Amazon’s warehouses. Amazon takes care of storage, packaging, and shipping, enabling sellers to focus on other aspects of their business. FBA Prep and Ship-Important is particularly essential for fragile items, as these products require extra attention during the preparation and shipping processes. By following specific guidelines, sellers can mitigate the risk of damage and ensure customer satisfaction.
Assessing Your Fragile Items
Before preparing fragile items for FBA, it’s vital to assess the nature of the products you are selling. This includes understanding the following:
Material: Determine whether the item is made from glass, ceramics, or other breakable materials. Different materials require different handling techniques.
Size and Weight: The size and weight of your items will influence packaging decisions. Larger, heavier items may need reinforced packaging to withstand the rigors of shipping.
Value: High-value fragile items may require additional insurance or special handling procedures to ensure they arrive safely.
Understanding these factors will help you choose the most appropriate packaging and shipping methods.
Best Practices for Packaging Fragile Items. Use Sturdy Packaging Materials
Investing in high-quality packaging materials is essential when handling fragile items. Here are some recommendations:
Boxes: Use double-walled boxes for added protection. Ensure the box is slightly larger than the item to allow for cushioning.
Padding Materials: Use bubble wrap, foam sheets, or packing peanuts to cushion the item. Ensure that there is enough padding to absorb shocks during transit.
. Wrap Each Item Individually
When shipping multiple fragile items, wrap each item separately to prevent them from knocking against each other. This is especially important for items like glassware, ceramics, or electronics, which can easily break when in contact with other items.
. Seal Boxes Properly
Make sure to seal boxes securely with high-quality packing tape. Use the “H” method for sealing, which involves taping the top and bottom seams and adding extra tape along the edges for added strength.
. Label Packages Clearly
Use clear and visible labeling to indicate that the package contains fragile items. This alerts shipping personnel to handle the package with care. Labels such as “Fragile,” “Handle with Care,” and “This Side Up” can significantly reduce the risk of damage.
Choosing the Right Shipping Method
The shipping method you choose can also impact how well fragile items are protected during transit. Here are some considerations:
. Select a Reliable Carrier
Choose a reputable carrier with a proven track record of handling fragile items. Research their shipping policies and procedures to ensure they have protocols in place for handling delicate packages.
. Insurance and Tracking
Consider purchasing shipping insurance for high-value fragile items. This provides peace of mind, knowing that you are protected in case of damage or loss. Additionally, use tracking services to monitor the package’s journey, allowing you to address any issues that may arise during transit.
Preparing for Returns
Handling fragile items can lead to higher return rates due to breakage during shipping. Preparing for returns is a crucial aspect of the FBA process. Here are some tips:
Return Policies: Clearly outline your return policies regarding fragile items. Make it easy for customers to understand how to return items safely.
Repackaging Instructions: Provide clear instructions on how customers should package fragile items for return shipping. This will help prevent further damage and ensure a smooth return process.
Handling fragile items with FBA Prep and Ship-Important requires meticulous planning and execution. By investing in high-quality packaging materials, following best practices for preparation, and choosing the right shipping methods, you can significantly reduce the risk of damage during transit. Understanding the unique needs of fragile items and being proactive in your approach can lead to a successful FBA experience.
At 3pshipping, we recognize the importance of managing fragile items effectively within the FBA framework. By implementing these strategies, sellers can enhance their reputation and improve customer satisfaction while navigating the complexities of shipping delicate products. Embrace the FBA Prep and Ship-Important strategies, and watch your business flourish!
