I signed up for something called Informed Mail, something available via USPS. I receive emails with scans of what mail will be arriving each day, as well as text notifications when a package is headed my way. Doesn't matter who sends the package; if it has my address on it, I get notifications.
This is absolutely fantastic because I know to keep an eye on the mail. Plus, I know to be home for the mails arrival. This is especially important now, seeing as mail theft is especially high in my area. My mailbox is inside my yard, not on the street, and the box is made of thick steel, has a lock, and is on a metal pole cemented in the ground. It's more difficult to steal mail that way, though not impossible. Plus, the gate to enter my yard is LOUD, which alerts me to anyone entering.
With it being "package season," thieves are out and stealing these in broad daylight. I opened my door to pick up what was dropped off seconds before, and a man in all black with a mask over the lower half of his face and big sunglasses over his eyes was just about to open the gate. He bolted, hopped in a car that was waiting for him, and they drove off.
Sign up if USPS is who you get your mail from. If you know you won't be home when a package is delivered, talk to a neighbor about picking it up for you instead. If you have the money, get a PO Box at the local USPS location. Stealing mail and packages is damn near impossible there. Those big outdoor mail lockers some neighbors have aren't very secure. I've seen local news sharing stories and showing pictures about these getting broken into.
I have three packages arriving tomorrow, and I'm suuuuuuper excited. Opening these sparks joy!

funny how once you make it clear that once you make it clear that you will be the biggest pain in the ass they’ve ever met, the delivery company ✨mysteriously finds✨ the package that’s been missing for a week that they previously said there was no possible way they had in their possession.

hate when i can see myself getting a little sad so i desperately up the socializing and exercising and the routines and start prepping for a depressive episode by cooking extra food to store in the fridge and god does not see all this as sufficient and grant me the mercy of it being a false alarm

i ordered a toaster to my new apartment and it got stolen before my roommate could go down and get it 😭 but honestly im glad i learned this lesson sooner than later lol. and also i am now discovering the magic of usps gopost and i am ecstatic. i love taxes man
#its basically a free PO box that can receive packages and u just go pick it up from a USPS location when it arrives#it was dumb of me to forget about how common package theft can be before i ordered something to the apartment#but now that i registered for USPS i’ll just get everything sent there its such a no brainer

So I had two package deliveries yesterday I'm annoyed about for different reasons.
First one was two books delivered in a soft 'insulated' packet type package, not a box. Which meant both were damaged because of the deliberately poor packaging choices. The first of the two books was only lightly damaged, minor cosmetic issues. Slightly crinkled corner that affects about a third of the pages but not super noticeable. The second of the two books had majorly bent pages to the point I was worried the seam of the bend was going to tear loose if not reinforced and the spine itself was damaged so badly that I was concerned that it would take very little use for the book to fall apart completely.
I don't mind the condition of the first book, but the second one? These are meant to be new books and that second one is in awful condition. I was able to get a free return/replacement option so hopefully the second delivery attempt will be packaged better and the book won't get partially destroyed in transit again.
The second delivery was in a box so what was inside was fine. So the packaging was not the problem here. The problem was that it apparently sat out in front of my house for a few hours with me unaware it was there because they left it halfway up the walkway up to my house. They did not bring it to the porch or ring the doorbell or follow anything remotely like the delivery instructions. If I hadn't eventually gotten the 'hey we delivered this, see the picture???' confirmation emails, it might have stayed out there over night.
My doorbell doesn't always work, but I've got a camera on my porch that I depend on to let me know when I've got a delivery or mail has arrived or my door dash order is here or that the person who just rang the doorbell/knocked is a solicitor I don't wanna talk to. (Or a girl scout selling cookies with her dad and I need to go grab my wallet on the way to the door to support the local troop.) So having a package essentially be barely delivered to my house is kind of annoying and definitely is too far from the porch to trigger the camera. And while this would have been a mild annoyance to me normally, it really annoyed me so much more coming on the heels of the packaging screw up resulting in a damaged book.
#initially the camera was to deter package theft during christmas time since the neighborhood was having some porch-package-theft going on#but it's been useful as a back up for the doorbell that doesn't always trigger#I do need to get the doorbell looked at probably but it works just enough that I forget to do anything about it#the camera also nice for getting video of the local cats and other animals passing by my front door during the day :D#and since my new (relatively new) front door does not have a peep hole the camera is my best way for checking who is out there now#without giving away that someone is home if I don't wanna talk to a solicitor trying to sell me something I don't want

i understand people miss the box style packaging and are hating on the binding/quality of the packaging of rockstar but why do some people follow it up with their favorite packaging being oddinary and why is it always newer stays within the last year like at least name one of their other 2 box style albums oddinary screams graphic design is my passion
#i have no where else to post this and it needs to be said oddinary graphically is one of their worst albums#yes it's a nice quality box but inlife i think is their best design with their box albums then golive#also storing wise box albums take up SO much space along with producing more waste and using more materials to make the#i wish they would go back to their cle series packaging with larger/think photobooks#and maybe have an envelope for all the goodies to prevent theft of inclusions#i feel like it's a good middle of what people want#i do like how easy it is to take apart rockstar though cause it makes it easier to breakdown for collages#without killing my fingertips#if anyone wishes to add on to this feel free i'll probs keep this tab open while i work late on this gift for my grandma

This is at least the third time I've found out the mailroom had a package for me months after it was delivered and at least the second time I've found out because I went up trying to figure out why usps said a different package was put in the mail locker when it definitely wasn't and the front desk person hands me a box that i won't realize is a box the old, unknown package until I'm back at my place. Where is the thing that was delivered today
#I'm going to be real with you. i think i might prefer potential package theft over apartment mailrooms#the best system I've ever had was when the postguy just threw packages on the ground and we had to scrounge based on the trust system

are the package guys just refusing to do their damn jobs recently wrf yesterday I got a text for a package I was tracking like "notice left no secure location" so I was like wtf I let the guy in when he rang the intercom just now. what do you mean they generally just leave them by the mailboxes & this isn't one you have to sign for. so I went downstairs & the guy was literally just standing in the area between the two doors where the buzzer is putting notices on the wall so I went over like "hi do you have one for (apartment)" & he's like no & im like "ummm I just got a text with a notice about it soooo" & then he actually looked & gave me my package & I expected since the door was open now he would come inside & drop off the others where they usually go but no he just stayed there so I'm like ok whatever I guess. then today I get a call over the intercom & ibstead of just buzzing them in I actually answer & talk to the guy & tell him I'll let him in before doing so. then go downstairs like 2 mins later and there's a notice in my mailbox that there was no secure location. WHAT DO YOU MEAN I FUCKING TALKED TO YIU IM LITERALLT HIMW JUAT DROP IT OFF YOU USELESS PIECE OF SHIT?????
#like this is your entire job and you cant eveb do it roght wtf??? i disnt ask for anything to be changed w how my delivetes are handled#more often than not im home to get my packages why are they not just leaving them by the mailboxes now. this is NOT an actial#solution to package theft lmao?????#texticles

So I just had a package dropped off, a big chewy box full of cat litter. I have a motion camera, so i got a notification and picked it up. Shortly after, this happens. The camera (visible, with a red light) is to the right, if you are walking through the entryway, and the package was delivered to the left.
i have a box on the ground, straight, under the window, that is empty except for a leaking gallon of water.
I mean bc to me this looks like someone who watched the delivery from afar, and by the time they got to my porch, they realized that the big box wasnt there, of course had to process that the other box wasnt the delivery, looked around saw the camera, and then baaacked away slowly lol
i put up a sign now
Some of its a lie. there is no hidden camera, its just me and my grandma and my cat, and we DO leave the house sometimes. but they dont know that, and its not worth the hassle.
And the eyes, ive heard that a lot of people feel like they are being watched with eyes, and that it can deter ppl. idk if its true but cant hurt
Temporary sign though. Idk what to do if the landlord wants me to take it down
#i just got our car stolen i dont want anything else stolen#we are also going to be putting fake deterrent stickers or real ones#like how a car is protected by a car security company or whatever. and also steering wheel stop#idk whatever im able to make sure it doesnt happen again#apparently this city is big on theft and car steals. thats what the cops said and it tracks#stolen mail stolen packages#break ins. the arsonist that one time#luckily we have metal doors#or some kind of somethin like that

product i saw in a dream: the whole thing was s small inflatable with images printed on it to make a skeleton kneeling with its arms forward and rocking chair things attached so it could rock back and forth like it was bowing. someone used a picture of it as a way to over sarcastically apologize
#posts#i stole it from a target. in the dream#< not a ''in a video game'' disclaimer i stole this object in my dream it was also the post itself. i stole a tumblr post from target#the post waslike. ''oh my alter is younger than me??''[implying they were in a relationship w them] and then the picture#except like. it wasjust thye folded up uninflated product and the packaging said that#the theft was actually accidental also. i just walked out without thinking about it and then the target closed so i couldnt go back pay lol#dreams
