Haru - Daughter of Snow White
Akechi - Son of the queen of hearts
Sumire - Either we make her the daughter of Alice and Kasumi was the og daughter but she died/disappeared and her sister took her role
or Sumire is the youngest daughter of Cinderella (In reference to Cendrillion) and it’s Kasumi who doesn’t want to follow her destiny so Sumire might have too
Shiho - Daughter of the hare (tortoise and the hare)

Can Thieves Fix a Broken Heart?
Mlb x P5
The Phantom Thieves of Hearts go to Paris.
This could be as a vacation or them setting up shop in a new location. (IDK yet)
The PToH do their thing. Going into the Metaverse and exploring both the Mementos and any Palaces they come across
It all goes well for the PToH team.
The Akumas are weird. but it seems that Ladybug & Chat Noir can deal with them.
It helps the team find their next mark
Needless to say the Palaces the team come across in Paris are all unique compared to what they were in Japan.
(while Japan were based off of the Seven Deadly Sins. It seems that Paris’ Palaces are based off Saints and Virtues... maybe could be fun)
One Palace they haven’t yet to find the treasure of belongs to one Lila Rossi. From what they have come to understand is that she has already been akumatized several times
Her Palace is what the team expects in all honesty
Ornate and shiny, full of fake gold and other such things
They have seen this type of person before back in Japan
To the team she is self-centered and views herself as a queen of her own little world
It will only be a matter of time before they find the treasure and can steal her treasure, changing her heart for the better hopefully
For the most part the team adjust to Paris fairly quickly
That is until one day the get a notice from the Metaverse Navigator about a Palace that is near by.
It is unprompted and has all three keywords needed to enter.
Name: Marinette Dupain-Cheng
Location: Boulangerire Patisserie
Distortion: St.(saint) Seraphim of Sarov Correctional
(personal note: idk any of the saints so please forgive me if this ins’t right. Reason why I chose this)
1: it is the saint of self-control
2: after google searching “saint of self-control” I found it and it spells S.o.S... which is perfect for this story
They all agree that having a Palace pop up unprompted AND already having all three keywords to enter is a bit odd, but they wave it off.
because there is a lot in Paris that hasn’t made a lot of sense, so they don’t question it.
The thing about this Palace, it is MASSIVE.
Biggest Palace in all of Paris. easily. Ranks up there pretty high when they compare it to all Palaces even including the ones from Japan.
It is themed like a Prison/insane asylum.
This Palace is different from all others they have come across in Paris.
Unlike others that show off its opulence in some way, this one doesn’t and even seems a bit bland with its brick and mortar.
The team get the feeling that this Palace is a subconsciously constructed one. Just like Futaba’s was
When they make it in the Palace their hearts sink into their stomachs
Every minor shadow of the Palace, more like Prison, is of the same girl.
And each and every one of them are held up in a room/jail cell. Each of the countless doors they have come across have a window looking in.
Some of the ones that stick out to the team are:
One is mad and hateful, bound in chains
She lashes out out anything she thinks could be dishonest
On the door is a phrase “Take the High Road.”
Another is scared and clearly trying to stop herself from crying at the jeers and insults blaring at her from the in-room speakers
the door says “Set a good example”
Another still is making all sorts of heart shaped things, obviously love struck for someone.
but instead of giving them away she stacks them to the side with a sad expression
On the door “don’t be jealous.”
Others range from a mad-hatter-esk girl worrying about maintaining schedules and deadlines, to a sleuth trying to find out ‘Who is he’
The last door they come across is the only double door so far
on one is the girl’s name “Marinette” on the other is the name of a local hero “Ladybug”
On Marinette’s door it says “Our everyday Ladybug” and on Ladybug’s it says “Must never faultier”
When the team go in they see a stage with two of girl on it.
Marinette is keeping up a smile and using niceties while a ball and chain is on both ankles
Ladybug is capturing an akuma, purifying it, then releasing it.
With everything they have seen and with what is in front of them, the Team’s heart break a little
Every Palace before this one was of someone lording their position of power, or hiding a secret.
this girl’s Palace doesn't show any desire at all. It looks to be actively policing any desire the girl may have.
This isn’t a Palace at all. this is a Prison locking and sealing away the very heart that created it.
The Thieves don’t get long to dwell on that revelation as a third version of the girl passes by them with a quick “Pardon monsieurs, mademoisells.”
Other than that she doesn’t pay them any attention
This version of the girl is obviously the true shadow self of the poor girl
She looks well dressed and business like.
Similar to Caroline and Justine’s outfits if not a rank up from that though
No hat, but her hair is done up in a bun
A plain porcelain mask with a kind smile hides everything but her eyes
draped over her shoulders is a, shoulder length, cape that has the world’s continents stitched into it.
She is the de facto warden of this Palace turned Prison
She addresses the two on stage with a cool and calm demeanor
She tells them how to correct what they are doing and how to do it right
The pair on stage repeat their actions they did before as the warden has them do it again until it is perfect
The team can’t help but think that it is like a pair of puppets being placed and posed to be set in the perfect position
Seeing enough the Phantom Thieves try and deal with the warden
it could be through combat like the game, or just talking to her (either way it ends the same)
The mask falls off the warden and reveals the same girl they have seen this entire infiltration.
When the mask hits the floor it flies straight to the Marinette on stage.
When it does the two girls outfits change instantly.
The new warden walks off the stage and chastises the new Marinette for loosing focus.
“if Ladybug can handle a jab like that, then so can you.”
It is a sickly calm to her voice when she speaks. (and it sounds wrong to the team)
The new Marinette gives a shaky “R-right” before she gets on stage and takes the old marinette’s place, practicing the same scene as before.
The Warden looks at the band of thieves “How may I help you?”
with her yellow/golden glowing with intensity and the calm way she says it sends a chill up their spines.
“There must be some way I can help you correct those errant behaviors of yours.”
As she says that, and with her eyes on them, do the Phantom Thieves understand that this will be their toughest fight/heist yet.
And they are right, because when they try and reengage the Warden they lose ground quickly and have to retreat.
Each time they defeat a warden the mask flies to another Marinette and the fight starts anew with a refreshed Warden.
While running to safety a little red mote light leads them to a safe room.
the red light is formless (it’s Tikki, but they don’t know that)
She tells them that; she had been trying to help Marinette but there is only so much they can do to off set all the negativity/chaos in Marinette’s life.
The team thank the little light and head out to find the treasure of this Prison
Sneaking around they meet other motes of light, all willing to help the team out (guardian Mari gets all the Kwami)
Even with the help of the little lights the team still have to retreat and regroup from the Prison. Because the Warden is too strong any time they come across her
Once in the real world the team agree to learn more about this girl and how to help her.
To do that they need to get to know Marinette.
Skull and Panther meet her at the bakery.
 ( Ryuji and Ann). as both can play off the tourist looking for good food and light conversation
They find her to be very nice and well meaning. even going as far as to offer places to visit in Paris
Fox and Queen meet her at school as teacher’s aids
(Yusuke and Makoto) they are the most likely to be able to actually be of help to the teachers and students
They find her to be the class-president that rivals Queen’s own work ethic back when they were all still in school.
Noir and Crow meet her when she is touring the city.
 (Haru and Goro) are the best at one on ones in their own right.
Find out about her passion of being a fashion designer (maybe add in her sketches of the Phantom Thieves’ outfits with little changes here and there)
Oracle (Futaba) looks up her online presence
She finds out that Marinette is connected to every major personality that has roots in Paris some way or another. and that the girl’s fashion website is top tier.
Joker & Morgana (Protagonist and mascot) meet her during her nightly patrols as a hero.
Ladybug was suspicious of them at first but when they calmed her down and reassuring her that they aren’t akuma they find out exactly what is going on in Paris and find out who the main villain is.
They all see the same thing however.
A young girl with the weight of the world on her shoulders.
Worse part is that she hides it so well behind that mask of hers.
The one with a kind smile and friendly tone.
(side note just because I couldn’t figure out a way to put this in: the Phantom Thieves are immune to Hawkmoth. I am gonna say that their Personas keep them safe by destroying/purifying the akuma right away or hiding them from Hawkmoths perception)
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
I would like to thank @miraculous786 for letting me bounce another idea off of them.
1) I don’t know to much about Persona 5, just the basics. 2) When I came up with this it turned into a POV from the Phantom Thieves 3) It is more geared to be a sad/angst fic, au, prompt. 4) anything that doesn’t make sense as far as references go (realworld or otherwise) is because it was the end result of a quick google search. Please forgive me if I don’t have it right.
Edit: reorganized things a bit.
2019 Top Ten Active Coaches Power Ranking
Tumblr media
So, I’ve looked at all of the Power conferences and the G5′s best. With all that said it’s time to mash it all up and see who are the best coaches in the nation.
Unlike the power rankings of the individual conferences, this ranking takes a much longer view of each coach’s career. I use slightly different metrics which have a big impact on where coaches place in the national rankings. Plus, I reserve the right to make judgement calls here.
The rankings have certainly changed a lot from 2018. Urban Meyer (last year’s #2 coach in the nation), Bill Snyder (#3), and Mark Richt (#8) retired, drastically altering the face of the coaching landscape in terms of career prestige. That doesn’t necessarily mean that new blood will flow into the top ten. Mack Brown and Les Miles, two of the most decorated coaches of the 2000′s, returned to the ranks. They’ve taken on difficult jobs, but men of that caliber should succeed given adequate time.
If you’d like to revisit the rankings from last year and see what’s changed, click here.
Here are a list of the honorable mentions: David Cutcliffe, Mike Gundy, Lincoln Riley, James Franklin, Pat Fitzgerald, Jim Harbaugh, David Shaw, Kyle Whittingham, Mike Leach, Gus Malzahn, Kirby Smart, Dan Mullen, and Frank Solich.
-
Tumblr media
10. Les Miles
Overall Record: 142-55 National Championships: 1 (2007)*
*at LSU
Movement: N/A
The Mad Hatter is back and college football is better off for it. Les Miles has a great track record as one of the top coaches of the 2000′s. Miles built up Oklahoma State into a successful program before handing the reigns off to Mike Gundy when he moved to LSU. Miles inherited a very successful program in Baton Rouge and kept the ball rolling. The Tigers won the 2007 National Championship and came a rematch against Alabama short of a second title in 2011. Miles will have a big challenge ahead of him as he tries to turn around one of the most hopeless P5 programs in the nation. I doubt he can take Kansas to the heights he achieved at LSU, but here’s to hoping.
-
Tumblr media
9. Jimbo Fisher
Record at Texas A&M: 9-4 Overall Record: 92-27 National Championships: 1 (2013)*
*at Florida State
Movement: N/A
I put Jimbo Fisher on timeout last year for so thoroughly mucking up Florida State in 2017. But, Fisher has to be seen as one of the better coaches in the game. He’s showing great promise after just one year at Texas A&M. We may be seeing the beginnings of something really big going on at College Station, the unlocking of the true potential latent in the Aggie program for decades that has so far never fully been realized. Time will tell, but with Jimbo they have as good a chance as any.
-
Tumblr media
8. Mack Brown
Record at North Carolina: 69-46-1 Record Overall: 244-122-1 National Championships: 1 (2005)*
*with Texas
Movement: N/A
Our oldest throwback of the returning crew, but also the best of that group. Mack Brown is one of the most successful coaches of the last quarter century. Brown’s complete rebuild of North Carolina in the 1990′s is one of the more impressive feats from that decade. Brown’s run at Texas from 1998 to 2009 was legendary. The Longhorns were one of the fixtures of college football in the 2000′s and its pretty surprising that they only won one national championship in the span. Now, Brown returns to Chapel Hill with the expectation of returning the Tar Heels to glory. Who knows how quick or how completely he can achieve this goal, but he’s got the track record.
-
Tumblr media
7. Kirk Ferentz
Record at Iowa: 152-101 Overall Record: 164-122 Division Championships: 1 (2015) Conference Championships: 2 (2002, 2004)
Movement: Up 2 spots
With Bill Snyder gone, we need to replace our immovable object and this guy fits the bill. Kirk Ferentz is one of the most consistent overachievers in the P5 relative to his team’s usual lot in life. Honestly it doesn’t get enough praise because most of us are used to the Hawkeyes playing well. Ferentz isn’t the same kind of coach that Mack Brown or Les Miles is, but for now, he’s ahead of those illustrious men for his steadfast dedication to winning in Iowa City.
-
Tumblr media
6. Mark Dantonio
Record at Michigan State: 107-51 Overall Record: 125-68 Division Championships: 3 (2011, 2013, 2015) Conference Championships: 3 (2010, 2013, 2015)
Movement: Same
Mark Dantonio is well on his way to Bill Snyder-ing himself a permanent spot on this list as well. The Spartan head man has built a wrecking machine, capable of bruising even the most intimidating Big Ten opponents. He consistently punches above his weight class, even though the field has gotten very crowded with the resurgence of Ohio State, Michigan, and Penn State since the early 2010′s. I wonder how long he can sustain, but weaker men would have already cracked under the pressure. Dantonio isn’t that guy.
-
Tumblr media
5. Chris Petersen
Record at Washington: 47-21 Overall Record: 139-33 Division Championships: 3 (2016, 2017, 2018) Conference Championships: 2 (2016, 2018)
Movement: Up 2 spots
Chris Petersen has been the best coach in the 11 Western States for some time now, at least since Pete Carroll moved on from the college ranks. Going back to his days at Boise State, Petersen is very used to doing more with less and building a successful machine that can compete year in and year out. The hype about Oregon and Washington State doesn’t feel as solid or as permanent as the beast Petersen has going in Seattle. The Huskies should be good, very very good, as long as Petersen is in charge. Just, please, win your bowl game for once.
-
Tumblr media
4. Gary Patterson
Record at TCU: 167-63 Conference Championships: 6 (2002, 2005, 2009, 2010, 2011, 2014)*
*Won in Conference-USA, Mountain West, and Big 12
Movement: Same
The true inheritor of the mantle of Snyder is none other than best his protege: Gary Patterson. TCU moved from the WAC, to Conference USA, to the Mountain West, to the Big 12 during Patterson’s tenure in Fort Worth. It’s one of the best success stories in college football in the 2000′s and 2010′s. Patterson has been absolutely instrumental in crafting a winning program at a school with fewer resources than a Texas or Oklahoma, or a Texas Tech or Oklahoma State for that matter.
-
Tumblr media
3. Brian Kelly
Record at Notre Dame: 81-35 Overall Record: 252-92-2
Movement: N/A
I’d like to issue a formal apology for not having Brian Kelly on this list sooner. With my metrics changing just a little bit, Kelly’s ranking shot up. Go figure, maybe I’m getting better at this. Kelly is a born winner; he’s won at Grand Valley State, at Central Michigan, at Cincinnati, and he’s had two 12-0 seasons at Notre Dame. I can forgive him for having not won a conference championship since 2009, I hope you can too.
-
Tumblr media
2. Dabo Swinney
Record at Clemson: 116-30 Division Championships: 7 (2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018) Conference Championships: 5 (2011, 2015, 2016, 2017, 2018) National Championships: 2 (2016, 2018)
Movement: Up 3 spots
Dabo Swinney wasn’t in my top ten when I first started doing this about 5 years ago, which really tells you something. Swinney’s unprecedented success at Clemson is going to go down as one of the biggest shifts in college football in the new millennium. The Tigers had been successful before, yes, but not like this. Clemson and Alabama are the teams of the 2010′s, and in the past four years they’ve traded national titles and have almost ignored basically every other program in the nation. He’s quite clearly one of the best coaches in the country, and what he’s done with in Death Valley is just insane. I still do a double take at the 30 career losses over the course of 10 (and a half) seasons. I mean, my god.
-
Tumblr media
1. Nick Saban
Record at Alabama: 132-20 Record Overall: 223-62-1 Division Championships: 11 (2001, 2002, 2003, 2008, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2013, 2014, 2015, 2016, 2017) Conference Championships: 7 (1990, 2001, 2003, 2012, 2014, 2015, 2016) National Championships: 6 (2003*, 2009, 2011, 2012, 2015, 2017)
*at LSU
Movement: Same
Look, I love praising Dabo, but his success will likely only be measured by how it stacks up to Nick Saban’s. Currently he’s still far away from the true pinnacle of success. Accept no substitutes. 20 losses in 12 years. JFC.
-
Also a fond farewell to Bill Snyder. No words can properly encapsulate what that man did for Kansas State. Enjoy a well earned retirement.
Note
Post canon Vince, while he is looking for R!Alice&Oz keeping an eye out for R!Elliot too, especially given that Leo never really had a proper ceremony to be the Glen and has one BW Chain by the finale so he would live longer than any possible next heir/heirs before? He would still die before than Gil&Vince but since you asked for Post canon Vince-Gil-Leo just wanted to start on that bc I love to think about it a lot? Especially given that Vince now isn't the suicidal self destroying mess (p1)
(p2)he was, now that he is aware that he can’t use the “I will go to past” excuse now, I see that his guilt would to some extent lead to try to do things for ones he hurt, mostly without them knowing, as he wouldn’t feel like having their thanks wouldn’t be something he still deserves yet, if ever? So, he probably looks after Leo a lot, both bc he is his Master and that he is/was rather similar to him so he knows how it feels, so he is always there to look after him, also bc Elliot would have
(p3) wanted Leo to move on and live his life as well? It is also an apology to him too, for not doing anything while he could have just killled HD or get it killed one way or another to save him. Also, he does learn how to play better but Leo probably just never lets him play Statice or Lacie with him, so they are other songs, that they play together, if Leo deems him good enough to play together with by then? (which he would, that tsun .d) And also Gil too?? He knows losing his bff/crush
(p4)who also was his Master all too well, he knows how it feels like and he is waiting for Oz&Alice’s return too so at worst times he just? Ruffles Leo’s hair probably and tells him that miracles do happen, and that he believes that he would get to meet Elliot again, one day, and until then, he should keep walking forward so when he meets him again, he can look him in the eyes properly? He is trying to do same for both Elliot and Oz, for both wouldn’t forgive him if he didn’t live while they
(p5) they were both gone? And Leo wants to protest that he is already trying to do that and it is still heavy, especially with Gil regarding him as a younger brother-ish figure despite being his servant (Vince is his Valet probs) but at the same time? It is not… that bad to get his head patted by Gil…. And Gil partly regards him that way due to all three of his younger brothers/brother like figures (Oz, Elliot, Vince) viewing him as friend/part of their family? He is protective over him for their sake/in their memory/bc they would want that, too?
Wouldn’t Leo live longer than Vincent and Gil? Since he’s younger, and especially since Vince à-probably still has Demios (I don’t remember him breaking the contract so I’m not sure if he still has it)
But yeah, I like that Vince went look for reborn Alice and Oz, and him looking for reborn Elliot makes sense. It probably takes him a while to get over the self destroying tendencies tho? Like, he spent years in that mindset, it doesn’t go away easily so it’s probably a long process. But he gets that the best way to make amends is to help his family and so he quietly does that.
Every time Leo is upset or needs something he’s just…there. He kinda comes out of nowhere, but he’s around and Leo knows he can count on him.
I’m not sure he could’ve killed Humpty Dumpty tho, only B-Rabbit and Mad Hatter could destroy Chains? But he could’ve…I don’t know, gotten Elliot to reject him earlier? He still would feel kinda guilty for not doing more, since he cared about Elliot.
“Statice” and “Lacie” are songs that were only for Elliot and Leo, so of course he doesn’t let Vincent play them. They make new songs to play together though. Also Leo helps Vincent practice sometimes (even though he’s useless as a teacher) and every once in a while, he sits just goes “now play” to see how he progressed.
Yeeees Gil patting his head like the awkward big brother he is. And Leo kinda likes it too, it’s calming and soft and feels really nice. Sometimes they talk about what they would do with Elliot, Oz and Alice when they come back, and promise each other that they’ll live as much as possible. They travel around a lot so they have things to tell them about when they come back.
Okay but Gil does the head pat to anyone who is feeling upset, not just Leo or Vincent. Lottie? She gets a head pat. Lily? Head pat. Doug? Head pat. Gil is just brother material to everyone.
Leo views Gil as a big brother-ish figure too! Gil is just used to see younger people as family, he had Oz, Elliot and Vince but Alice kinda joined too so it’s not hard for him to see Leo that way too. It’s not only because it’s what Oz and Elliot would’ve wanted that he sees him as a little brother? Though he is much more protective of Leo than he is of the other Baskervilles, except maybe Vincent.
4 crucial questions Miles must answer to get Kansas back on track
Tumblr media
The Jayhawks have a long road back to bowl eligibility, but at least they’re worth paying attention to now.
The Jayhawks made a splash when they hired a coach with a national championship ring to take over their moribund program. The Mad Hatter is coming to Lawrence to sample the field turf and try to awaken a program that’s gone 6-41 (2-33 in the Big 12) under David Beaty.
The move seems to have been mostly brought about by a desire to hire a big name who can generate excitement, combined with Miles’ desire to coach again despite being 65 and largely unsought after by most P5 programs.
Obviously he has some major challenges in order to turn the Jayhawks into a team that even competes for bowl eligibility. Kansas hasn’t been relevant since it fired Mark Mangino in 2009 after his first losing season in five years (due to allegations of player abuse). In 2015, Beaty inherited a roster with something less than half of its 85 allowed scholarships allotted, due to some quick-fix JUCO recruiting by Charlie Weis. Beaty then failed to get the program on track.
1. How to rebuild this roster?
There will be some hopes that the Jayhawks will hit Miles’ beloved Louisiana hard for talent, particularly given that Kansas’ best player is a freshman RB (Pooka Williams) from the Boot in 2018.
Back when Mangino was taking the Jayhawks to the Orange Bowl, their recruiting rankings were decidedly unimpressive. They recruited the players you’d expect, two-/three-star leftovers from Texas metro areas and overlooked gems from Kansas and Oklahoma. Mangino’s knack for hiring good staff, organizing an efficient program, and his embrace of then-novel hurry-up spread offense were game changers.
Miles’ recruiting history is interesting. As the head coach at Oklahoma State, he had OSU in the middle of the Big 12 recruiting rankings, and they got their fill from Texas and Oklahoma. At LSU, Miles regularly recruited in the top 10 nationally, still about what you’d expect, given the exceptionally deep pool in Louisiana, LSU’s status in the state, and the profile of LSU in Houston and across the South.
The regional recruiting situation for Kansas is perhaps a tad underrated. The state of Kansas produces several Power 5 signees per year from its population of three million people, the majority from the Kansas City metroplex, within an hour of campus. There’s also plenty of access to the booming Oklahoma City and easy enough flights to DFW and Houston.
The sell is the hard part, given the Jayhawks’ lack of pizzaz or tradition. A winning model is unearthing good two-/three-stars for whom playing at KU represents one of their best offers, then building enough credibility to keep the rare blue-chips from within the state home.
There’s one other feature that presents risks and opportunities for Miles: the Kansas Jayhawk community college conference. Anyone familiar with Last Chance U will be familiar with the program names. There are quick-fix tactics available, if the 65-year-old decides he wants immediate success. Both of his predecessors seized on that option, which left their successors with thin rosters.
“What we’re going to do is we’re going to work a 500-mile radius and we’re going to get to those, and we’re going to win in that group,” Miles said at his intro presser. “And then we’re going to pick some cities in Texas that we hit. We’re going to get to the West Coast at the need of the program. With the proximity of the JC’s that we have in this state, I’m going to certainly look at those guys, as they would be emergency need style of guys.”
2. What philosophy to embrace?
Miles’ hire at defensive coordinator is going to be crucial for winning in the offense-first Big 12, but the most talked-about hire will be his OC. At Oklahoma State and LSU, Miles preferred “Neanderball,” under-center offense that would punish opponents with fullback lead runs and the occasional play-action bomb. Miles has since expressed an interest in running a spread offense such as Baylor’s.
The formula would be for Les to hire an established OC in the mold of Philip Montgomery (should Tulsa fire him as head coach) or perhaps Hugh Freeze and give them broad leeway. Miles would execute a quality control role, organizing practices to ensure sound fundamentals. Miles’ LSU always played physical ball and fierce defense, and often beat teams with special teams playmaking.
Against Big 12 offenses, though, you have to score. There are too many opponents that will chuck the ball around. A commanding 21-7 lead — the sort LSU used to nurse with toss sweeps — could be erased in three minutes in the Big 12 as the opponent loads everyone into the box and dares Miles’ Jayhawks to either throw or run it three times and punt. If you want to play ground-and-pound in the Big 12, your defense has to be ready to play 80 snaps without yielding points over a nine-game slate, a tall order for a Kansas team that hasn’t played good defense in many a year.
Producing high-scoring offenses was rarely Miles’ forte, so that OC hire will be crucial to realizing a CEO coach vision.
3. Can both Miles and Kansas finally find a QB?
In the 21st century, Kansas has had three winning seasons. All came under Mangino, and two came when Todd Reesing was the quarterback. Kansas’ record with Reesing from 2007-09 was 25-13 (.658), while its record with every other QB in that time was 46-132 (.258).
LSU usually had similar QB issues under Miles, although the ceiling without a difference-making QB was obviously higher than KU’s.
This is another reason all eyes will be on Miles’ OC hire. In the Big 12, games are regularly determined by the QBs’ ability to produce in high-paced shootouts. The Jayhawks might aim to be much more balanced than some of their brethren, but again, it’s hard to win without a QB who can direct an efficient offense that scores in the 40s from time to time.
For whatever reason, none of the unheralded kids who went on to blow up as college QBs over the last 20 years did so at Kansas, save for Reesing. There’s little reason to believe Miles can find such a player to build Kansas around, but he has to hire someone who can do it for him.
4. Can a CEO Head Coach have success at Kansas?
As programs are hiring increasing numbers of support staff, assistants, and analysts to help run massive programs, it makes more and more sense to have someone at the top who can command a big-picture view and execute quality control over the culture while delegating responsibilities, rather than personally drawing up plays.
It famously worked at Texas, it’s working wonderfully at Clemson, and it’s basically what Arizona State is attempting.
There’s a chance Miles can help maximize whatever potential Kansas might have. It’s obvious enough that Kansas has failed to leverage even what resources it has. Miles’ LSU rosters aren’t walking through that door, but the goal is bowl eligibility within a couple years or so.
