also my brain has been thinking of the fairy tail au as well so take a little bit more information on the p4 cast specifically
it’s wordy, be warned!
——
Yu and the rest of the team are like mid/late twenties (P5 gang are early twenties P3 are early/mid thirties)
Most of them share small houses together because it makes rent slightly easier (Yukiko has the inn)
Yosuke and Yu are rooming together
Kanji and Naoto share
Rise and Chie are together
Teddie lives in a small cottage near the guild
——
Magic! (I’ve already explained Yu’s check the fairy tail au tag if you want more on that!)
Yosuke - Healing Wind - can summon winds which both heal those who get swept up in them or can damage them if they get harsh enough to toss people in the air
Chie - Devil Kick - Her kicks are extremely powerful (her muscles tend to harden when she uses her magic so the enemies get like 10x damage because of how strong she is usually and then adding that on with it)
Yukiko - Blossom Boom - Her magic allows her to create small or large bloom type bombs that will burst into flames after hitting the ground (like a five second chance to get away before they explode and sometimes the loose petals will set on fire)
Kanji - Poison Finger - yeah his fingers can let out a small or large amount of poison depending on his energy levels. (High energy means your more likely to be okay, low energy means you’re probably going to die)
Naoto - Revealed - Naoto’s magic allows him to see through magic disguises or just any disguise and force the magic user to come to light (also his magic just gives him a keen eye)
Rise - Siren’s Guide - Rise’s voice can guide those she doesn’t want to hurt to safety and those she must hurt into a tiring trap!
Teddie - Dress up - the opposite of Naoto’s teddie’s magic allows them to cast disguises and change someone’s feature depending on a situation (nonbinary teddie anyone?!)
———
So they end up being one of the main teams from the guild to investigate the murder alongside Ryotaro
Some have their suspicions it’s the newest mage of the guild Adachi
Tohru’s magic is called - Jester - Allows him to create copies of himself and use them to distract others with all sorts of tricks (harmful tricks)
and so they start to follow after him and his history and it all sort of comes to that
——
Yu, Yosuke, Chie and Yukiko have known each other a lot longer in this, since Yu traveled to Iniari quite frequently to visit his uncle
So they’re like a group of their own until the investigation team gets formed
Rise and Naoto are good friends already since they know each other from magnolia (rise technically was part of the blue pegasus guild before)
Kanji managed to get out of a dark guild before it was to late thanks to Ryotaro and he’s been with the silver screen guild ever since
——-
Yu and his aunt Chisato have a very strong bond and it’s filled with bad jokes and stoicism (same for yu and ryotaro) she also teaches him how to play the flute, Nanako is learning how to play piano like her mum
————
Nanako doesn’t have her magic yet, but it’s more likely to come in a moment of extreme panic or stress for her (like how it did for her parents)
She’s good friends with the phantom warrior’s guild Akane!
——
(this kinda counts as actual headcannons for p4 but it’s still valid in the au!)
Ryotaro and Chisato actually had trouble conceiving Nanako (they were about to give up on having a child all together)
Ryotaro’s sister, Yu’s mother , Himiko was actually going to try persuade them to try once more (she saw how sad they were) until she found out about Nanako
So yeah Nanako was sort of a miracle baby!
——-
that’s it for now!

Angst Time for the Mascot AU!
Nanako was very young when Yu was thrown into the TV. All she knows is that he adored her, but can’t remember the finer Details. Dojima has an incredibly strained relationship with his sister/Yu’s mom due to Yu being kidnapped under his watch. Unlike canon, Dojima isn’t neglectful of Nanako as he is more overprotective. He lost his wife, his nephew, and his sister won’t talk to him. The last thing he needs is to lose Nanako too.
Yosuke recently transferred to Inaba in his first year of middle school, and he was still branded as the “Prince of Junes”, with many of the local businesses hating not only the chain store ruining their economy, but the people running it as well. No one batted an eye when Yosuke disappeared. The Junes nearly shut down due to the manager’s grief over losing his son. Not like anyone cared to see if he was okay.
Chie and Yukiko disappeared around the same time. The entire town came together to search for them, all the way to the next town over. The staff at the Amagi Inn and Chie’s parents spearheaded the search, but they ultimately couldn’t find them. To this day, there is a memorial for the two girls at the entrance of the inn. Both families make sure all the flowers are still fresh and the pictures dusted.
No one bothered to look for Kanji. His only relative was an old woman who couldn’t search much on foot. All she could do was set up missing posters. Everyone guessed that he just was killed by a biker gang or died in a fight. In fact, many people were relieved at his disappearance. “Good riddance!” They would say, with Kanji’s mother being all too cognizant of it.
Rise was a different story. Nearly all of her fanbase rushed to the small town looking for their missing idol. They even harassed several of Inaba’s residents for information, including Rise’s grandmother. But ultimately, like any trend it fizzled out over time and Rise’s place as the top idol was taken. She’s just another reminder for a bad memory for the town.
Naoto wanted to investigate the numerous cold cases, only to disappear as well. Their grandfather was absolutely distraught, doing everything he can to find his grandchild, exhausting every last bit of energy, money, and free time to at least find their body. Nowadays, you can find old man Shirogane at Shiroku Pub, nursing a drink and staring at case files. He and Dojima have a camaraderie with each other.
ooo these are good! A few things from my thoughts:
P4/golden takes place when he's 16-17 and Nanako is 6-7... so if Yu went missing when he was 10, then Nanako would have been a newborn at oldest. I also picture the Narukamis having lived in Inaba and then moving away once their son went missing. I think this warps the behavior of Dojima and Chisato and i can see it being a factor in making it a "Chisato lives" au, too.
Saki and Yosuke went missing at the same time. I actually figure it like a babysitter situation- with a teen Saki tutoring Yosuke when they were attacked. She dies saving Yosuke in the TV world and is the only one who makes it back to the real world as a result. The Konishis and Hanamuras actually become quite close afterwards. I think it's as you said, that the town doesn't care as much about Yosuke going missing as much as they would- say, Saki or Yukiko. But a missing kid is a missing kid and even the more bitter of Inabas citizens have empathy for a mother who's outlived her son (as far as they're aware)
Kanji would have been 9, so it's set before his rebellious phase and before his father dies. It's not so much the "delinquent" that went missing, but the "Tatsumi's Kid". I assume loosing Mr. Tatsumi later on after her son on wasn't good for Kanji's mother, though.
Rise too, would be about 9-10. I think this is before an idol career was even an option- so she's still a very shy and reserved Rise.
Naoto I can see having an investigative air, but it really depends on when their parents died. I like the idea of old man shirogane and dojima as friends. Hell, I bet Dojima calls him "Senpai" LMAO.
pretty on point for chie and yukiko tho.

P4 AU idea
Instead of Chisato, it's Ryotaro who went to go pick up Nanako and died in the hit and run.
Chisato then takes Ryotaro's place in the narrative, having to take care of Nanako whilst also having to stay strong, like a pillar, for her daughter and herself.
Obviously she'd be different from Ryotaro, personality wise, but I don't think situationally they'd be all that different, where as Ryotaro had his job to contend with, Chisato would have the community to face. She'd end up taking on more and more community projects, in addition to spending more hours at her job (whatever it'd be). Eventually like in canon, Nanako would get upset, asking why they never hang out like a family anymore, or why mom's forgotten dad.
Ryotaro had the issue not knowing how to take care of his daughter or the house work, Chisato by comparison would probably have the opposite issue, she would have trouble making ends meet, constantly working and working, not only to escape the fact that the husband she loved is gone but also to make enough money to pay the bills. Because she's working so much, Nanako would still end up being very lonely by the time protag came into their lives.
In the end, her SL would, yes, be about her coming to terms with her husband's death and her putting in the effort to become a better mother for her daughter, but it also be about accepting when you need help, and how it's okay to let your friends and family and community help you. It'd be an almost opposite of Yukiko's SL, but where she had to unlearn her learned helplessness, Chisato would need to learn that you don't need take on all the tasks and responsibilities yourself, that it is okay to ask for help if you need it.

I'm seeing a few more Akechi in Inaba/P4 fics popping up, and tbh, I'm all for it. I don't really feel like I have ownership of the idea with The Crow Cries at Midnight because it's just a loose premise that anyone can give their own creative spin on. I think the extensive canon divergence TCCAM is building to is fairly uniquely tied to the fic itself and the personal creative decisions I have made. The amount of breaking the plot of Persona 4 that's kinda just happened in the unreleased segments I'm writing kinda just were a domino effect, which is leading it in a direction that is very different from, say, Throw Away Your Mask's P4 section. We have some commonalities, like Akechi and Kanji friendship, but then some of our ideas are very different, and I think that's super cool! A fic like TAYM has a very different feeling because its Akechi a) remembers canon, b) went through a divergent version of P3, c) TAYM includes things like "Tsuyoshi," Akira in Inaba, and d) Akechi arriving in Inaba partway into Persona 4's plot rather than being there since before Yu's arrival. My fic gives Namatame and the Moel Gas Station Attendant a ton of time in the spotlight, whereas TAYM does a fantastic job giving Kanji's mother screentime in a way that is really fun and satisfying. Recently, a fic called If You Want Peace (Win it Yourself) popped up that has Chisato as Goro's aunt who takes him in after his mother's death, so Goro is actually a blood relative to Nanako and Chisato, which is very different from TCCAM where he has no blood relation and that lack of blood relation plays into a lot of his apprehension with his initial starting place in the Dojima household. And I just think that's neat. I read the first chapter and thought the creative choices were really cool and distinct from both TCCAM and TAYM's P4 segment, and I look forward to seeing how this story develops in contrast to both my story and TAYM. There are so many unique Joker and Akechi roleswap fics, multiple takes on Joker in Inaba. A trope or concept for an AU can be spun in so many unique ways, and I really like to compare and contrast and enjoy each of these stories for what they bring to the table.

Edit: WHAT HAPPENED TO MY POST FORMATTING??? WHERED MY READMORE GO?????
Edit 2: Fixed the formatting, this app is so broken ;-;
I posted the first two to personal bc they were part of a batch but they also feature my design of Nanako from my P4–5 AU of my self ship AU.
Lore stuff under the cut because this is one of my more developed AUs despite it not being canon to my main AU at all lmao.
Quickie recap of the premise to my AU bc I don't remember if I ever posted it to this blog. Basically when Maruki is researching cognitive pscience pre-P5, he gets access to the Shadow Ops' files of the multiple incidents in Inaba (P4 + Arena/Ultimax) and learns about Jay basically being displaced from their own timeline to This Side via Nyarly, causing him to add multiverse theory to his cognitive pscience studies. P5's story happens, as does P5R's 3rd semester, but in this scenario Maruki is able to win against the Phantom Thieves, merge the worlds + take control over the world as its new god of control (Rip Yaldy lmao), and seal the Phantom Thieves away until he can figure out how to convert them to the new world despite their renewed wills making them immune to Maruki's distortions. In the meantime, to say thanks to Jay for indirectly helping him bring his idea of happiness to the world, he distorts the world again to allow Jay to fulfill their wish to have been born in this timeline, meet Adachi and the rest of the Investigstion Team (IT) sooner, yada yada a bunch of other sappy stuff. To make an even longer story short, Jay and all of the people they have a very strong connection with (Adachi, Dojima, the IT, and surprise guest: my familial OC F/O Skylar) are turned back into highschoolers and all attend Shujin, where Maruki can watch over them (out of fear that they might react like the Phantom Thieves did if they ever find out the truth.) Because of these distortions, pretty much everyone from P4 and P3 had their entire lives changed and are living in completely different scenarios. Philemon tasks Jay and Narukami with returning their friends' memories to them, slapping some sense into Maruki, and restoring the world to the state it should be in.
Nanako is one of the people affected by Maruki's distortions. In my AU, Dojima becomes a member of the IT and thusly is also affected and turned back into a teenager alongside everyone else in the party. Because I'm not completely insane, Dojima and Chisato will not have Nanako while he's like 17/18 during the AU's story. Chisato is still Nanako's mother, but marries Shinya Oda's father instead of Dojima. Her mom still dies while Nanako is young, but Oda remarries to Shinya's canon birthmom. Due to her new circumstances, instead of being under the Justice Arcana, she is now under of the Tower Arcana. Her Social Link/Confidant still deals with her independence, but has a bigger focus on her want to be a good sister and set a good example for Shinya to follow.
As for the design itself, she's a bit more rebellious than canon Nanako and tends to be a bit of a rule breaker, especially when Shinya isn't around. She's got a very strained relationship with her parents, especially her stepmother, and is pretty attention starved as a result. So she acts out to get some kind of attention. I tried to make her design reflect this. She's in her last year of middle school, so she obviously wears her school uniform. But she breaks dress code by not wearing the right jacket, incorrectly wearing the shirt, and adds an extra t-shirt to the outfit. I styled the jacket, bow, socks, and shoes to resemble her clothes in canon. I also made her wear her hair differently. A lopsided short ponytail felt like it look both cute and give the impression of being a young child's attempt to dress more like a delinquent lol. Plus it has a sporty vibe, somewhat inspired by Nanako's model in the P5 beta leak using a lacrosse stick as a weapon. I didn't want her new rebellious nature to be outright in front of your face, plus she still needs to be somewhat presentable/socially acceptable to be that good example for Shinya, so I kept it pretty tame.

Looks like Dojima and/or Chisato (Nanako’s Mother and Dojima’s wife) actually used to use the gardening plot next to the house before Nanako was born and/or when Nanako was too little to remember, but stopped at some point, presumably because of the typhoon he mentions here. More of a headcanon from me but, Yu and Nanako using the garden to grow vegetables must have made Dojima nostalgic for those days.

@arcanalight yosuke ♥
“You FREAKIN’ moron!” Dojima yelled, wrinkling the note Nanako had been holding for him to sign for her parent-teacher conference underneath his stocked feet. Worry and frustration filled the living room. Instead of trying to help, Dojima had blown his fuse. He’d told Yu the medicine was in the first-aid kit and to take care of Nanako before walking out and not looking back.
❝But she’s your--❞ She’s your DAUGHTER! The door had been slammed, cutting him off. His words would have fallen on deaf ears, anyway. Dojima always shut him down, silenced him, asserted his authority. Yu couldn’t do anything. Dojima cared, but he didn’t care in the right way. It was the same with the case, and it always rubbed Yu so badly. It always reminded Yu of his own mother. Different, but similar at the same time. He wanted Dojima to trust him, but he knew better than the say the words aloud.
Tumblr media
❝It’s not in here...❞ Yu rifled through the first-aid kit again. Band-aids, pain killers, ointment, but nothing with a prescription label. Nanako’s pained whimper shattered what little control he had left over the situation. Yu whipped out his cellphone. It was either a call or the hospital.
❝Damn it...❞ The second the call was picked up, Yu was already talking. ❝Yosuke! Can you get over here.❞ It was a demand more than a question. Yu was talking too fast, belaying every ounce of panic that surged through him. He reached a hand up, gripping long silver strands as he pressed his palm to his forehead. ❝Nanako’s sick and--Dojima just left me alone with this. Just--Just get here as fast as you can!❞

Okay brain thinking about the Dojima’s in the fairy tail au
So Chisato’s magic is called “Discordant Harmony” which can cause her opponents inner melody to change (basically she can turn them to her side or make them even stronger opponents) when she conducts her magic (so she’s sort of like a conductor she has the stick as well idk what it’s called)
Ryotaro’s magic is called “Clue Eye” it allows him to spot anything out of the ordinary (or anything out of place from its original position) or traps that might have been set (it manifests in his left eye)
Nanako has a mix of their magic (hasn’t manifested yet when we meet the p4 gang) it’s named “Truth Melody” using her music (depends on the person but the tempo and beat changes each time she uses it) Nanako can rip the truth out of someone wether they want it to or not
——
Chisato isn’t dead (yet? I’m still thinking about this but maybe her death is the cause of Nanako’s magic awakening) she’s the guilds bartender/caretaker along with her husband
A little bit cuckoo but she’s a kind hearted woman who’ll always take time to check in with her guild members
She and Ryotaro were s class mages when they were younger and joined the guild at the same time
so they partnered up when they realised their magic could help each other and then fell in love
———
I’m thinking about having Adachi being a recently joined member of the silver screen guild
Either his magic is something to do with jesters and makes people quite loopy or it’s something that makes people see him as something he’s not (so he hides himself as a killer so he’s constantly using his magic)
That’s all I got so far

gotta say, for a homophobe, the producer of P4 sure doesn’t seem to think any canon m/f relationships should end well either
Namatame and Misuzu’s marriage is described as cold to the degree where a guy who really seems like the last person who would ever think of cheating on anyone ends up having an affair with Mayumi, whom he genuinely loves, and she is then murdered
Naoto’s parents are dead, Kanji’s mom is a widow, Eri starts out by saying she doesn’t even know if she loves her husband, and of course we have Dojima being so devastated by Chisato’s death and the idea of avenging it that it consumes him and causes him to neglect everyone around him but especially himself
not even unrequited love is safe, since Yosuke’s feelings for Saki end with her being murdered and him being convinced that she hates him

I’m playing Persona 1 for the first time because I’ve been wanting to play the original games for years, and already in the first like 15 minutes, there have been 3 separate characters that share names with people/things in P4 and I am living.
We have Masao ‘Inaba’
And then there are two girls talking about someone named Yosuke and how he ran off with a girl named Chisato. (Chisato was the name of Dojima’s wife). I am so excited to see what other things in the later games were references.
I also got this screenshot, and I have to say, I agree lol

Hierophant!Adachi Reference Masterpost (written for SOTFD specifically, but ofc this applies to the mainline Hiero!Adachi AU as well).
(Visual references to his appearance can be found here and here.
Personality, Backstory, and Persona moveset is under the cut.)
Backstory/Personality
Tohru Adachi is the head detective of the Inaba Police Department, and has been for a little over a year. His arcana embodies Adachi’s views of justice and upholding the law had he never been isolated and left alone to stew in his hatred - he still thinks that society is awful and selfish, and favors those with talent, but he thinks that if he doesn’t work hard to meet those standards and make things right in small ways, no one else will. Despite his standing, he’s young - only recently turned 28 - and looks older than he is, judging by his much tidier appearance and the fact that he has a teenage daughter.
His views on others, and on society, is still rather pessimistic when you meet him, and he’s still rather short and demeaning to people whom he dislikes. Even if he likes a person, he still teases them and tries to push them in little ways to get them to want to work harder - as that motivates him, he thinks it works on others.
The one exception to this is his daughter Naoto Shirogane-Adachi. She’s the Justice Arcana, whom he adopted when she was seven, not long after she tried to escape the orphanage she was living in soon after the deaths of her parents. Though clearly a young and inexperienced parent in many, many ways, and they have a habit of making fun of the people around them, it’s very clear that he tries incredibly hard to raise her in a healthy, safe environment. He and Naoto have a good relationship by the time he’s in SOTFD (after p4), and he will never miss an opportunity to brag about her if he can.
Appearance-wise, again, he’s much more put-together than his canon counterpart. His tie (blue-and-black-striped, by the way, with matching sleeve garters ofc) is straightened, and he still wears his glasses, as he takes care of himself much more in this verse. He’s clearly less tired and even is a little heavier in weight than his canon counterpart, due to a more healthy eating and sleeping schedule.
Another visual difference is the amount of scars Hierophant!Adachi has - most notably on his face, arms, and hands. There are some on his torso and legs as well, but he usually has them covered. He got these scars in a car accident chasing Namatame, who had kidnapped Naoto.
Naoto’s kidnapping and temporary death are a topic that Adachi probably won’t talk about except to those he completely trusts (and is also the source of insecurity for his shadow). His wounds are still fairly new and he’s still on many prescriptions for his injuries.
The killer in this verse is Dojima, under the Jester/Hunger Arcana. He specifically targeted Naoto as a kidnapping victim as a personal vendetta against their family, as they had a habit of showing off their healthy family relationship, and Ameno-Sagiri amplified this anger, jealousy, and his grief over Chisato and lack of relationship with his daughter Nanako (the Fortune Arcana, and a famous detective) to drive him to act out its plan.
Adachi will never, ever forgive Dojima for what he did to the victims, to his daughter and nephew (whom he’s kind of taking to checking up on without admitting that the cares for their well-being), to himself, and especially to Naoto. When Dojima finally lets Adachi visit him in prison, Adachi does nothing but gloat and threaten.
Persona Moveset
Persona: Okuninushi (visual reference and description here)
Uses: Phys, Electric
Weak to: Wind, Psio (?)
Hierophant!Adachi himself carries a revolver, Okuninushi carries a sword and crossbow.
Moves:
Ziodyne - Heavy Electric damage to 1 foe.
Blade of Fury - Deals medium Phys damage to all foes 2x to 4x.
Poison Arrow - Deals medium Phys damage to 1 foe with a chance of Poison.
Mazionga - Deals medium Elec damage to all foes.
Matarukaja -  Buff party attack power for 3 turns.
Apt Pupil - (Passive) Increases user's Critical Rate.
Endure - (Passive) Withstand damage that brings HP down to 0 with 1 HP
Okuninushi also has a small rabbit companion, the Hare of Inaba, that follows it around. It has a small chance to kick and deal damage only to shadows that have single-digit HP remaining after a party has finished attacking.

For the ask game, i dont wanna be obvious and say p4 so uhm p3?:0
Haha, it's fine, I got another ask for Persona 3, so I hope you don't mind me answering for Persona 4 anyways! ^^
blorbo: Adachi, you know it!
scrunkly: Nanako :3 How couldn't I? She's really cute and I just want her to be happy! I also relate to her a bit, so that's a bonus :')
scrimblo bimblo: umm, I'm gonna go ahead and say Dojima because, even though most of the fandom likes him, I still need more fics and art with him as the focus ^^
glup shitto: Ooh, Mayumi and Chisato! I don't know why but I love them and the personalities I've made up for them in my head <3
poor little meow meow: Adachi lol. Also Namatame. I may not think or talk about him a lot because I don't have much to say about him, but I do care him <3
horse plinko: Dojima, absolutely! I do like Adachi and Yu angst too, but there's nothing like a traumatized DILF! :D
eeby deeby: Morooka, probably. Along with that other teacher, whats-her-name. Also Yosuke, but lovingly. I wanna bully him a little, affectionately :)
