I am ready to rest but so grateful we were able to capture this show forever. 😱 What an honor to be among this group of talented individuals.

Do you think the cover order of ABS/CHP or AB/SC/HP is possible or would they try to avoid it?

I think it is a mix of circumstance and standarization. There have been no queens with either A/B/S or C/H/P, but A/B S/C H/P have all existed within three cover combinations and as second covers.

A/B/C is a fairly common cover combo with currently Nicole Kyoung-Mi Lambert, and formerly Liv Alexander, Abbi Hodgson, Laura Blair and Kristina Walz; Sunayna Smith was A/B/H too. S/C plus other queen has appeared a few times already Keirsten Hodgens (S/C/P), Kelly Denice Taylor (A/S/C), Hannah Taylor (B/S/C), Princess Victomé (S/C/P), and Sadie Hurst was originally cast as B/S/C before switching to B/S/H. H/P has appeared as S/H/P for Elizabeth Walker Maddison Firth, Sophie-Rose Middleton and Ellie Sharpe; Erin Palmer Ramirez is B/H/P.

What I mean by circumstance and standarization is that currently many things in six are pointing towards being standarized accross productions which does help from a logistics point of view. For the UK productions this seems to include cover combinations, previously they mixed covers to whatever worked best for a cast but recently they seem to have settled in the A/C B/H S/P mix. Before this was the norm it would have been possible that an alt got those covers if the creative team thought that was the right fit.

I do think that we might see A/B/S or C/H/P in the near future for an US or cruise production. While I am not sure exactly how cruise teams choose covers it seems that for the Aragon tour the alts were cast at first as one or two queens and then got the third later in the process. Starting with two very strong covers and then two choices for the third which later gets asigned depending on the other three alts seems like a very likely system going forward so new combinations will keep appearing.

Side note last time I went to the pet store, the box that had the peach throated monitor had a couple of turtles inside. Wonder what happened to peachy friend... You like turtles??? We had two when I was very young but they were pretty neglected in retrospect 😢 I think lizards are the perfect reptile pets, snakes have no legs which is 👎 and turtles have shells which is kind of meh lol

Lololol, without further ado~ Happy Freyja Friday!!! We’re doing good, Freyja’s been a tad reclusive as of late but I’ve managed to take her out onto the porch c: since schools back in session, it’s been a little challenging for me to spend more quality time with her… so it’s imperative that I handle her sometime throughout my day. But I think it’ll take more time than I’d though ;p I think it has a lot to do with them raising her throughout her juvenile life? I’m unsure but I think we’re well on our way to her being more comfortable with me and traveling 🥰

Surprisingly, she hasn’t had any shedding and I’m so happy for her 😆 like, Miss Girl is always shedding!! So you can imagine how astonishing it was to realize that there was no signs of shedding whatsoever 😭 I think it has a lot to do with me not having time to bathe her last week (which means she pooped in her enclosure… it’s been a while since that happened 🥲) but I think she needed a break or something…

Freyja’s been really into worms and surprisingly diced apples. But they HAVE to be Granny Smith’s apples; she refuses to indulge in any other ones 😂 the girl is major picky when it comes to the color of food! She typically hates green food choices, and will opt for vibrant colors like red or yellow so I was taken aback. She hasn’t been in the mood for dandelion greens or collard greens so I’m thinking of trying out basil? I know she it’s edible for her buuut she hasn’t tried it yet ;p

I’ve always wanted turtles, but I also consider caring for them to be high-maintenance. I mean, I already back bend and more to cater to Freyja so I would assume I’d be doing the most for the little lovelies… still want them though 😭 I’ve always looked at snakes to be tails with a face but they’re kinda cute 🥰 and surprisingly, they’re rather shy c:

 …The room is cold. His heavy collar is attached to a metal table. He has been left here for a while. They left a bottle of water on the table, and his throat is dry… But he can’t have it. It’s there, tempting him, but he wasn’t given permission.

Honestly, he is glad to be alone. All those people, the noise… He was yanked outside of his home, stuffed into a car and driven here. And the worst part is, he doesn’t know if he will be allowed to go home.

He doesn’t know if he has a home anymore.

He scrubbed those tiles until his hands couldn’t anymore… And it wasn’t enough. It was still dirty and red…

And Miss Abby didn’t wake up.

She would never wake up.

…He cleaned a tear. He wasn’t allowed to cry.

The heavy door opened, a man in uniform entered, carrying some files. He pulled the chair, the loud screeching sound made him flinch. He kept his eyes down.

“Sunflower, it that correct?” The cop says, not really looking at him.

“Yes, Sir” he licks his lips, hoping they get a little less dry. He hoped he would be allowed some water soon.

“Alright then, Sunflower. Let’s recall the events of that night” the man leans against the chair, tapping the back of a pen against the clipboard “Tell me everything you can remember”

…He opens his mouth, closes it, shakes his head.

“P-please don’t… Sir… Please… I’ll be good… I… I can’t, can’t…”

“You have to” Angry, demanding voice. Sunflower whimpers, recoiling “It’s on your own best interest to collaborate with our investigation, Pet.”

“Sir…”

“Speak. What happened?”

He bites back the sobs. He eyes at the water… It would help him swallow the tears, but the cop ignores his looks. He doesn’t have the courage to plea with words.

“…I… I was… at my cage”

“Sleeping?”

“No!” He shakes his head desperately “Not allowed. I was good, I swear. I didn’t sleep”

…The cop raises an eyebrow and writes it down.

“So you were awake all along?”

“Yes! I was good. Please”

“…Right. Keep going”

“Hm…  There were noises”

“What noises, Sunflower?” the man sighed, seeming annoyed.

“Things falling and breaking… And… Mr Abby screamed…”

The cop notes that down.

“Didn’t you think of checking?”

He hugs himself, pressing further against the chair. He doesn’t even like sitting on one but they ordered him to.

“I can only leave my cage if, if Miss Abby allow…”

“But you left anyway”

He flinches. He did, he left, he was bad and disobeyed.

“Sorry. I’m so sorry, I was just scared, I can’t, I-“

“Shut up” The man snaps. He isn’t allowed to cry, but a tear falls anyway “Why took you so long to leave the cage? And why you did?”

Sunflower doesn’t answer. He looks down at his hands, bandaged now. Some woman wrapped them for him, and gave him water. He wants water now. It’s there, right there, but he wasn’t allowed…

“I made you a question”

“S-s-sorry” he whimpered, snapping back “Sorry”

“…Alright. Why didn’t you leave the cage when you heard noises?”

“Not… Not allowed” he repeated.

“But the situation was unusual, wasn’t it?” the cop pressured “Didn’t you think you might need to check? Tell me what were you thinking”

“…I… I thought it could be a test, Sir”

“A test?”

He nodded. The man kept scribbling, then leaned forward. Too close.

“She… Sometimes did things to see… If I would obey and… And I thought… She was testing me”

“Then why did you leave the cage later?”

“…T-the door”

“What does that mean?”

“Just the back door? That’s all you heard?”  The cop exhaled, even more annoyed than before “Come on. Use you pretty head Pet. You aren’t giving me a lot to work with”

…He closed his eyes. He didn’t want to recall that. Bad night. A tear fell down over his  hands. He was being bad, even now.

“…Ah… The neighbors… They… Their car… and dog… Dog barking”

…The man leaned back on the chair. Sunflower was glad, he didn’t like the cop to be close.

“Alright. Then, you decided to check, correct?”

“Yes… It… Was too quiet” he whimpered “And Miss… Miss didn’t close the door. Didn’t went upstairs… She was sleeping on the floor”

“…But she wasn’t sleeping now, was she, Pet?”

“Sleeping… But wouldn’t wake up”

“S-s-sorry” his voice was just a low squeak at this point. It was… It was his fault? He should’ve done something. He should! But… But he wasn’t allowed. He was at the cage, and Mistress would’ve been so mad…

“Did you want her to die, maybe?” He didn’t! He would never want for that. He just, just didn’t want to get hurt, to be a bad pet and disobey, he just wanted to be good! He couldn’t speak, the sobs chocking his words… “Is that why you didn’t call for help? Because you were actually glad she was gone, Pet? Because you wanted her to-“

“Enough!”

Both turn. Another person entering the room, dressed in suit and tie, carrying even more folders and paper. They pull the other chair, and Sunflower flinches again.

“I’m Dr. Smith, I’m here representing the Pet- Excuse me, Sunflower’s case” the person smiles at him, way more sympathetic than the cop. Sunflower doesn’t like people… Not at all. But this time, he is glad he is no longer alone “Sunflower, you don’t have to answer anything without talking to me first. I’ll handle the questioning, alright?”

He quietly nodded. Does… does that mean he doesn’t need to speak anymore?

“It appears you’ve been trying to coerce information out of my client” they speak directly to the cop, who folds their arms sighs.

“I want just politely asking your client why he didn’t call for help”

…Sunflower opens his mouth to answer again, but the attorney silences him with a gesture.

“Simply because he is a Pet. They aren’t trained to deal with situations like that. In fact, if anything, they are trained to ignore the common sense” Dr. Smith smiles, looking at him “Sunflower, dear, you are allowed to have that water”

“T-t-thank you” he whimpers, relieved washing over him. He takes the bottle, nervously.

“…Yes, you may drink it from the bottle. Is alright”

The cop raises an eyebrow. Sunflower doesn’t even care, he is just glad he can drink – push back the tears a little, and soothe his dry throat.

“See?” The attorney says “It’s obvious you aren’t prepared to handle Pets”

…The cop scribbles that too. Sunflower holds onto the bottle, nearly empty now. He doesn’t want to put it back on the table, doesn’t want it taken away again. He chews on the lid, nervously, the tension between the two other people growing.

“Right” the cop sighed “You client was found cleaning the crime scene. Any evidence we could have gathered from there is now contaminated”

“My client has little understanding of how investigations go. He was cleaning because” the attorney fumbled through the files “…It seems here Miss Abby has a history of compulsive behavior, mostly regarding cleaning. She has even talked about it in some of her own videos. It’s not a surprise her Pet was trained to clean. If anyone is to blame for this, is the training company responsible for his conditioning, which did not gave him adequate tools to navigate a situation like this”

The cop rolled his eyes.

“…Do you know how long it was before someone else found you, Sunflower?”

He shot a nervous glance at the attorney.

“You can answer this one, if you know”

“…An… Was… Was morning. The neighbor dog wouldn’t stop barking… Not since… night”

“Right. That’s what the neighbors told us. They came to check why the dog wouldn’t calm down and found the back door to Abby’s house was open” The cop sighed “…You didn’t see the person at all, that’s right?”

…Sunflower just nodded.

The cop got up, the chair noise making him flinch yet again.

“…Dismissed. For now.”

The cop left leaving him alone with the attorney. They had a sympathetic smile.

“…Don’t worry, I’m sure you are a good boy Sunflower”

“…Good?” he asked, incredulous “M-miss Abby… What… what happens now?”

“…First, we need to handle the criminal case. You’ll have to collaborate with me, but if you are a good pet and help me understand what happened, I’ll handle the rest” the person had a kind smile. He wasn’t sure he believed it “You are in custody of the estate for now”

“And… after…?”

“It depends a lot of how things play out. But I’m sure it will go well. We will find you a nice, kind new owner afterwards” Dr. Smith gently tapped at his shoulder “Now… I need you to tell me what went on. Don’t worry, you are not in trouble, I just need to know”

“N-not a-a-again… Please…” He whimpered… A head pat. Soft. He peeked up.

“I know it’s stressful, Sun. But you are a good boy, aren’t you?” he nodded. He wanted to be a good boy, at least “…You can take your time too, okay? Just try and tell me everything”

…He took a deep breath, wanting to cry. He would have to go through it all… Again. He just wanted to go home. But he didn’t have a home anymore.

…The attorney put something on the table. A cereal bar.

“Go ahead, you can have it. I know it’s stressful” they smiled “But I’m here to help. So let’s work together, okay?”

…He nodded. He picked up the thing, slowly chewing. It was good but… He wasn’t really hungry. He felt nauseous still, the imagery of the night playing over and over on his head.

A   :   AFFECTION.   how does your muse show affection?

Morde often shows it though making stuff out of clay and talking a lot. He doesn't have much to offer someone so really all he can do is talk and learn stuff about people so he can remember and truly know the person he loves.

B   :   BOUQUET.   does your muse like flowers? which ones are their favourite?

He doesn't see them as big gestures, seeing that as the farm has plenty of flowers during the spring and summer but it he knows that they're expensive or gotten especially then he has a small smitten moment about the effort put into it.

C   :   CHOCOLATE.   does your muse like chocolate? which one is their favourite?

He likes it for the calorie factors and personally thinks that chocolate is a bit overly sweet. He likes that really dark chocolate that's bitter to most people and he can't afford it much so he rarely eats it.

D   :   DATE.   what is your muse’s ideal date? where / who with / etc?

Mordecai really wants to be able to see larger structures and art galleries to know how he can improve his own art. He wants to go somewhere busy where he can look into people's heads and be able to experience memories of nice dates. He wants Abby to take him places so he can know more and have good memories with Abby that he can get heated cheeks about later on while arguing over why he insisted on coming to look at paintings.

E   :   EMBRACE.   does your muse like hugs? what are their hugs like?

He loves hugs since he's so unused to the touches and Mordecai's hugs are always a hesitant dance of dingers up Abby's arms before he finally gets pulled into the hug more and resting his face into Abby's chest. He likes it when Abby holds him close and baby just sighs contentedly when he's swayed.

F   :   FLIRT.   is your muse good at flirting? how do they flirt?

He's so awful at first because he's blunt and dances about it for a little bit before he picks up his partner's particular flirting style. Most of the time it's a pat at Abby's chest, a red face and "Huh-hugs. I luh-liked it ah-and...and I w-want muh-more of it." And Morde just happily leaving a shoulder bare and not minding the fact that Abby can see more skin than usual because that should entice him, right?

G   :   GIFT.   is your muse good at gift - giving or do they struggle to get it right?

Mordecai is good at giving stuff but that's down to the fact that he simply looks into Abby's head and searches for what he may want. He doesn't take notice if certain gifts may have a deeper impact than what would be expected, he just wants to treat Abby. Sometimes he gets it wrong and then he just wants to know why he couldn't get it right.

I    :   I LOVE YOU.   does your muse find ‘i love you’ easy or hard to say?

He finds it hard to say, mostly because why or when is he supposed to say it? Has Morde ever said it before? How does he know if it's right? He shows it a lot in longing looks and lasting touches. Sometimes he grabs at Abby and gives a small squeeze to his hand or when Abby's leaving for a bit he clutches the side of the barn and quietly tells him to hurry back home. Screams it in the mind though and Mordecai is searching for a chance to be able to scream it out loud but it just never feels right yet.

J   :   JEALOUSY.   does your muse get jealous in a relationship?

Oh yeah. Mordecai knows that he shouldn't get jealous because he would know if someone cheated on him, but it doesn't get any easier when he feels lingering stares on what's supposed to be Morde's. Gets red faced and scowls deeply when he sees it in minds and then Morde just possesive grabs and holds Abby for an hour or so before he makes himself reel back. Gets straight back into enticing flirt to make what's his, his again.

K   :   KISS.   is your muse a good kisser? why / why not? 

It's a lot like the flirting honestly. Morde is always stiff and silent at first because blocked away memories have taught him that staying still and letting what's happening to him just happen, but Morde has slowly learnt to give it back! How much of a good kisser he is depends on his partner really because Mordecai tends to try the tricks that are being done on him back at Abby, but soon he gets some of his own tricks!

Morde really enjoys being able to simply hold Abby and enjoy the feeling of lips against his own. He likes to bite and suck on Abby's lips and fully throw himself into the sensation. So, yes, Mordecai is a good kisser.

L   :   LOVE.   who does your muse love?

He loves the animals he's collected and he knows that he has people who he loves deeply, even if he can't exactly remember familiar red hair or dark freckles that change constantly. But Abby is a good person to love. Yes, he's annoying and a sex-fiend, but Morde finds himself longing for conversation with him and to see the amusement on Abby's face that turns to filthy flirting when Mordecai pokes about his interesting body. He likes the excitement Abby brings that's also so incredibly safe and Morde is pretty sure that this is love because what else could it be that makes him cry when Abby is gone for too long or clutch and sob so loudly when Abby calls their sex "lovemaking"?

N   :   NAUGHTY.   what is your muse like in bed?

Morde is a filthy boy who enjoys the rough demon stuff Abby is able to do to him. He wants to be bitten and marked, forced into humiliating positions before Abby laughs at what a wanton slut he is when he yanks his hair back. But now that he's kinda in love with Abby? Wants to still be forced into humiliating positions, but now he wants Abby to call him cute things or make him wear "cute" outfits that obviously have so much thought put into them and makes Morde feel like Abby's pretty little silly thing. Who's loved and is going to be loved even more when he's being kissed exactly where Abby spanked him teasingly.

P   :   PARTNER.   what does your muse look for in a partner? looks / personality?

Morde likes someone who can surprise him in a conversation and keep up, even if he makes things difficult. He likes someone who can surprise him and small meaningless acts of kindness often get to Mordecai easily. He's easy to please deep down. He also likes people who are more different from the norm so Abby?? Once Morde gets over his initial dislike then he's up close and basically feeling Abby up. Definitely makes a surprisingly pleased "oh!" When he sees how strong Abby is and a lingering look. He's too easily impressed, like I said.

Q   :   QUESTION.   would your muse ask the big question or expect their partner to?

Well last night I actually cackled out loud at the idea of Morde and Abby doing something real kinky with cock rings and Abby just "bet you expected a different ring, huh?" Y'know, all sexy and playful. But then Morde is so confused because what other ring??? And then Abby having a moment of (surprised pikachu face) when he realises that Mordecai really expects fucking in a semi-shitty barn to be his life now.

I'm mostly snorting over the mental image of Abby doing some soul searching over whether or not he wants to take the step and get married to this wonderful forest man meanwhile Morde's just getting his back door blown out harder than usual and wondering what the hell is making Abby do so. But yeah, Morde wouldn't expect Abby to ask it or ask it himself because he doesn't know what marriage is.

R   :   ROMANCE.   is your muse a romantic or a cynic?

Morde says that he's a cynical but really he just gets anxious over the idea that maybe he's too eager for romantics. Especially with someone like Abby since that meant at first that Morde didn't exactly know what gestures were to get in his pants and which were truly sweet. He's a secret romantic and that shows a lot when he casts wandering eyes towards big glassy valentines displays.

S   :   SWEETHEART.   did your muse have a childhood sweetheart?

He did actually! Mordecai had a thing with Iris and Merajo's child, Adonai. They had a lot of secret moments together whenever they could and neither of them knew what exactly was love but at the time they simply knew they had large affections for each other. Doe liked the stuff Morde could create and always thought he was so much more and different compared to his clone lineage. It ended when Iris published Morde and sent him away, also taking the time to properly punish and wipe Doe's mind too.

T   :   TRUE LOVE.   does your muse believe in true love?

He doesn't. Abby loves the idea of loving someone and being loved forever, but he doesn't think that such a thing exists. It just seems to wild to actually believe that some people think that this is something that was always meant to be. If true love is real, does that mean the pain he's endured was always meant to be for this moment too?

U   :   UNREQUITED.   has your muse had their heart broken?

He has, but not in the exact romantic sense. Morde was heartbroken every time he and Doe had to split apart until they were wiped clean again. He had his heart broken plenty of times when people flirted with him, only to show sudden disgusts when they saw the missing limbs with what looked like diamond shards on the missing arm. Most of all, he was shattered into pieces when he woke up alone and without anything in his mind except knowing the fact that it was wrong and he did something wrong that he could never make right again.

Y   :   YOURS.   does your muse get protective easily?

Mordecai never wants to lose anyone else again so he is very protective of Abby. Yeah, maybe its laughable when you want to protect a demon but that doesn't stop Morde from getting a tight face when Abby talks about people who have hurt him or flicking over minds of anyone near to make sure they haven't got intentions of hitting his Sweetabus. Over time he woimd visibly get panicked at Abby leaving and honestly? Maybe try to insist on coming on mercenary stuff with him because its obvious he did it once, why can't they be like that movie "Mr and Mrs Smith" and do it together? Where Morde can watch Abby and keep him safe?

Z   :   ZZZ.   how many people has your muse slept with?

He's slept with at 15-25 people over the course of being undercover or being owned by someone who has wanted to touch him. But the highest ones in his book are the brief memories of rolling in bed and giggling at heart shaped pupils, licking freckles that have shifted across a dark skinned body as well as caressing blue skin and moaning as he tries to look away from bright gold eyes before sobbing that he loves the way Abby's teeth kiss and bite him.

How we buy sneakers is changing, but brick-and-mortar stores are still crucial industry pillars. Not only do they bring together the community, nurture the culture, and act as an authoritative mediating force between brands and consumers, but they are also a gateway into sneaker culture and a stepping stone for many that go on to work in the industry.

Like most areas of the sneaker world, decision-making roles in retail remain largely the domain of men. In fact, of all the sneaker stores in the world — from boutiques to chain stores — less than 10 are run by women. Sadly, this isn't that surprising. Opening a store is a huge investment for anyone, but additional challenges faced by those that don't fit the stereotypical industry mold make it harder and understandably less appealing.

Susan Boyle opened cult New York store Rime (RIP) in 2007, and as one of the first women to run an independent sneaker boutique, she knows better than most the difficulties faced. “I wasn't taken seriously for a long time," she explains. "I do feel that I faced a lot of challenges in the sneaker business because of my gender, and looking back now, 14 years later, the fact that I was even acknowledged in the industry and that I was able to do collaborations and break some barriers is pretty amazing, because no one really wanted a woman there in the first place."

Similarly, Kickslove owner Lisa Barlow was forced to close the London-based store in 2018. "My biggest challenge was access to the product that the other independent sneakerhead stores were getting. It was really disappointing not to have been supported by the big brands — all sneaker stores' business relies upon carrying the best products from the leading brands," shares Barlow. "Brands can make the most impact not just by writing women's strategies, but actually executing it with a special focus on the entire female demographic and with inclusivity in mind. Then, follow through with them locally through access to product, local marketing, or bringing awareness to a retailer through events that will help elevate them in a crowded and mainly male space. A lot of brands are pushing a purposeful agenda now, and nothing is more purposeful and powerful than helping young female entrepreneurs find their space in the industry." Barlow now runs Kicksloved, an online platform for sustainable and preloved sneakers.

To keep pushing towards parity and opening up sneaker culture to a wider and more diverse customer base, seeing that same diversification reflected in retail ownership is essential. Despite the difficulties, we're thankfully heading in that direction and there are now more women-owned stores than ever. We spoke to those blazing the trail around the world about retail’s role in creating an inclusive community and what they’re doing to amplify the voices of those overlooked in the sneaker industry.

What sets Silhouette apart from other sneaker stores?

We try to support and elevate the community, the city. Our store is a love letter to this place. We carry local Black-owned apparel brands, feature local artists amplifying locally-relevant messages, partner with local vendors, host events that our community might find value in. We had a voter registration campaign, launched kids' streetwear designed by students at a local elementary school, paid rent for families at the end of the year, etc.

Silhouette is located on Tulsa’s Black Wall Street on the same spot as a shoe store that burned down during the 1921 Race Massacre. Why was it important for you to reclaim this location?

While Black-owned businesses exist all over the city now, no longer restricted by legal segregation, Black Wall Street is still an important symbol of entrepreneurial success for the Black community. I greatly value the opportunity to carry on that legacy of success with a business concept that I think would have existed if the community was allowed to evolve without racism and violence. Sneaker culture has its roots in Black culture.

What would you like to see brands do to better champion women and especially Black women?

Listen to women! And make cool stuff for them! Invest in them; use your incredible marketing tools to amplify their role in the culture. If you're putting money into communities, put that money toward issues that affect women and specifically Black women.

Abby Albino & Shelby Weaver – Makeway

What is Makeway doing to amplify women’s voices in the sneaker industry?

Makeway is and always will be a space for our community. Although it is owned by two women, we are not here to decide what women need. We are here to connect with our community and then provide products, programming, resources, a space, and brand connections based on their needs. Makeway doesn’t belong to us; it belongs to our community, and that will be the foundation for everything we do.

How can sneaker stores help raise the voices of those who have been historically disadvantaged in the industry?

The unfortunate part is those who have been historically disadvantaged in the industry are also mostly responsible for the mainstream popularity of sneaker culture. For example, Black culture is synonymous with sneaker culture, yet a huge portion of the people benefiting financially from the industry are white. And what about the launch of the Go Fly Ease — we’ve seen many consumers living with disabilities unable to purchase shoes that were literally made for them. Or women who can’t get their hands on female collabs or exclusives that were made for them because they’re being bought up by male resellers. Sneaker stores — us included — need to recognize and acknowledge these inequities and be a part of the solution, not the problem.

How can women-owned sneaker stores influence brands to better serve the women's community?

Brands have already identified women as a key priority for their businesses and that puts us at an advantage. They're looking to us to help them understand the consumer more and by being transparent with our needs, wants, and expectations, we can influence how they serve us. For example, instead of buying what they believe to be a key style or product for women, we challenge them and explain why we believe something will or will not work. We also know women are not just one size/style fits all, so we are requesting access to more than just women's products. We want access to it all.

What’s the most important thing you’ve learned while running a women’s sneaker store?

That it’s an ever-evolving market, where on the one hand you’ve got your own vision and on the other, there’s the consumer. The challenge is to always listen to your customers while staying true to your vision and be as authentic as possible.

Have you noticed any changes in the buying habits of women since you opened?

Yes, 100 percent. The women’s market has grown immensely since we opened our doors. There are so many new and different consumers buying sneakers and using sneakers as their main footwear type. When we started, girls lining up for shoes was considered crazy and only a handful of troopers knew the concept. Now there are multiple girls lining up almost on a weekly basis, as the girls now know that they have to be on time if they really want it.

How are expanded size runs impacting your store and its customers?

We don't have to shop at the kid's section anymore and we don't only have “pink it and shrink it” versions of the shoes we want. By focusing on product and having the biggest offering in these styles and sizes, our store and website have grown from a small city local supplier to be able to cater to female sneakerheads all over the world.

Australia is far removed from the sneaker and streetwear scenes of Europe and North America. How have you cultivated the local sneaker community?

Australian women’s love for sneakers and streetwear has been around just as long as anywhere else. Unfortunately, we haven’t had access to the same products as Europe and America, which has definitely set us back. Being the first women’s sneaker store here has come with its own challenges, but the support has been positive, which really reinforces the need for a strong women’s sneaker presence.

Do you think the emergence of dedicated women's sneaker stores has resulted in brands taking the women’s sneaker industry more seriously?

Absolutely, and it’s about time. Over the years, I’ve noticed a much wider selection of products offered to us and more accessibility to unisex sizing, which has always been one of the biggest barriers for a lot of women. It has come a long way and I only see things getting better for us.

What do you think the future holds for women in the sneaker industry?

I would hope for more creative control when designing sneakers for women and marketing sneakers to women. Historically, it has been a male-dominated space, but women need to be recognized for what they have already achieved and, given the opportunity, I think they will make an even greater impact going forward.

What does Wish bring to the local sneaker community?

Wish ATL is the premier streetwear shop in Atlanta. Our customers travel far and wide to shop with us because we bring a level of authenticity to the community. Our clients include celebrities — entertainers, actors, athletes — but the majority of our clients are young, African-American men and women who live in Atlanta. Wish is known as a place where you can find the best product of local and international brands. We offer local talent an opportunity to use our platform to have their voices heard. We continually bring events, dialogue, ideas, and experiences to our local community. Wish is part of a dynamic and eclectic creative community called Little 5 Points, where people of all backgrounds converge.

How does Wish raise the voices of women in the industry?

We connect with other women in the industry as often as we can. As the founder, I have been privileged to mentor several young women. They have gone on to do great things in fashion and entertainment. We have hosted events focused on women, most recently the launch of Jordan women’s apparel. Wish has featured several women artists in our gallery space. We also support female-run institutions like Spelman College Museum of Fine Art who focus on female artists of the African diaspora. Being female-owned and run, it’s our natural desire to see the next generation of women step up and conquer.

How can women-owned sneaker stores influence brands to better serve the female community?

We must serve our customers well. We carry clothing, sneakers, and accessories for women and listen to what they want. We listen to their stories and use our voices/her voice when speaking to the brands we carry. We know the importance and necessity of her mark on this community. And being in Atlanta, we are overwhelmed by all of the amazing female talent surrounding us. We will continue to work with a diverse group of women designers and influencers ensuring our voice as women grows stronger.

What made you decide to open a store and how difficult was it to establish yourselves?

There wasn't a place for women to shop a curated selection of sneakers alongside clothing and lifestyle in the UK. Since opening, we have found a real increase in what is available for women, particularly in sneakers. We actually came along just at the right time. Women’s sneakers were a major focus for all the major brands — they just didn't have a women's-specific door to place their top-tier product.

What improvements have you noticed for women sneakerheads since you opened your store?

It really has come a long way since our very first season in the spring of 2015. The major brands have been making it their mission to increase their women's business and we are definitely seeing the fruits of their labor. There is still a way to go as far as what colorways are available and releases just for women, but it's been so positive seeing the growth. To note: unisex product is also on the rise, which is excellent, too.

How do you think female representation and involvement in the sneaker industry will evolve over the coming years?

As brands continue to release bigger ranges for women, we hope to see more women-specific marketing campaigns and collaborations. One thing to remember is that sometimes the sneaker world can be drowned out by all the hype releases. There are plenty of women wearing sneakers, but if it's not hype, it sometimes feels like it goes unseen or doesn't count. So the more the brands shout about women's products, the more we'll all notice the strong female representation in the sneaker industry.

How do you keep your social media presence fresh when you’re catering to so many different types of women?

We tend to use pastel colors to invert the stereotype but keep our Instagram looking uniform. The aim is to steer clear of the super-dark, overly contrasted imagery that’s typically seen on male-focused accounts. We also have a franchise called "Friday Fit," where we reshare our customers’ posts.

You’ve expanded to three locations. Have you noticed any differences or similarities between customers in different areas?

The two stores in Copenhagen tend to get a more diverse array of visitors, mainly because they're situated in the city center. Teenage girls are probably our most loyal store customers across all three locations, so we’ve tried to create an ambiance that suits them, from the oversized mirrors to the floors coated in signature naked pink.
