On the topic of normalizing women asking men out, I ran into this blog post today (of course not by coincidence -- I think it was from Ozy's post's comments section). It strikes some notes that I don't love, and it seems to be from the vantage point of a poly woman immersed in tech culture who is mainly attracted to awkward and not-especially-handsome nerdy tech guys, so not necessarily easily relatable, but hey, it makes some good arguments and it's a start!
Actually, between that post and Ozy's post, I'm kind of inspired to refocus on learning the skill (which I never really learned in the first place) of asking people out, specifically not in a dating app context. They both make a lot of good arguments for its merits! Now, if only I had some idea of where in the country I'll be living and what kind of work I might be doing six months from now...

Main Verse Update #1
Note: So I had this idea of making occasional recap posts in order to let people know about what might be going on in Django's main verse, whether it's a significant event or just ongoing plot details. They'll be fairly short and to the point because I can't imagine myself writing out anything that extensively. Just seems kinda pointless, y'know?
Anyway, these will pop up every now and again when I feel like enough has happened that it warrants a post. Be sure to check out the Blog Event tag below in order to catch up on anything in the future if you're curious!
So without further ado, let's see what's been going on.
As of this moment the Saints are currently working on establishing themselves in several major American cities—seeing if they can attempt to form an alliance of sorts with any local gang/criminal organization given the current state of the world. Outside of the U.S. the Saints have also been toying around with the idea of setting up shop in different parts of the world. Aside from typical reconnaissance and discussions with prominent figures, nothing significant has happened yet.
In a surprising turn of events, the Saints (or at least their media division) have cut ties with the likes of Ultor and are now working under a corporation owned by Ozymanidas ( @ardenssolis ). Django had done prior work for the man and built up a rather good rapport, earning him an offer to be under Ozy's company in order to act as a safety net for the gang (along with helping the man in his many different endeavors). A news report-style post will be made eventually that further discusses this.
Speaking of partnerships, Django is currently in the midst of working out an agreement with notorious crime lord Mirage from the organization known as Illusione ( @killerhubby / @allmurder ). If all goes well, the Saints will have themselves a powerful ally, along with a pretty good in if they ever decide to establish themselves in Italy. Let us all pray for a wonderful and prosperous partnership between both organizations.
While nothing significant has yet occurred, nor even been written; please keep in mind that the Chairmen are in fact keeping tabs. They may just be closer than you think.

Just checking, you're still alive, right? I really hope so!
Haha thanks for your concern and the wellness check! The funny thing is, this being the start of the first weekend in a while that isn't totally packed, I was actually going to log on today and write a brief post about how I've gotten too busy this semester to even go on Tumblr to read other people's posts all that much let alone write here myself and it sucks (in an "I'm temporarily too busy and stressed but it should ease up mid-December" way, nothing devastating to my life or anything). Also, if you happen to be Tumblr user zukoiscrazy, it's even funnier because one of things I was going to do today is send you an ask related to the now-much-too-close-in-more-senses-than-one election.
It's been 20 days of no posting activity... I guess that's fairly close to a record for me!
Seriously, it's been one thing after another since this semester started (not just my actual job but my now-annual task of applying to dozens of jobs throughout the fall), and I miss Tumblr. Because I'm so preoccupied, I have like 40% fewer Tumblr-post-worthy thoughts than I usually have, but that's still some and I just haven't found the time to log on and get them down in writing, or even to log on and read many other people's posts. (I'm always slowly beating back a relentless line of open tabs of Scott's and Ozy's and Freddie's blog posts as well as I have a hard time finding time to read them.) What's most aggravating of all is that at the moment everything accelerated for me, I was caught in the middle of conversations and intended follow-ups/reblogs and unanswered asks and so on. I'm going to try to pick up at least a couple of the pieces this weekend; we'll see.

5 Key Components of Digital Marketing
Tumblr media
Digital marketing is a huge industry. It is constantly changing and it is important to stay up-to-date with the latest trends.
A digital marketing strategy can help a business grow its sales and profits. It can also improve the credibility of a website. A marketing agency can provide a variety of digital marketing services. To know more about Digital Marketing Brisbane, visit the OZY Digital website or call 0240228675.
Website design is a crucial part of any digital marketing campaign. It is the first impression that potential customers will get of your business, so you need to make sure that it’s as high-quality as possible. There are many companies that provide web design services in Brisbane. However, not all of them are equal. Some have more experience, while others are less expensive. In order to find the right company for your needs, you should look at their reviews and customer satisfaction levels.
OZY Digital is a full-service digital agency that offers campaign management, website development, and paid advertisement campaigns. Their team of experts are passionate about delivering a great customer experience. They have a long list of satisfied clients, including the prestigious Queensland Museum. They also have a strong presence on social media. They are a top choice for businesses looking to grow their brand online.
SEO is one of the most important components of digital marketing Brisbane, and it can help you drive more traffic to your website. A good SEO agency will understand your business and provide you with a comprehensive strategy that is tailored to your specific needs. They will also have the experience and expertise to implement the strategy effectively.
A well-executed SEO campaign can help your brand grow, which will increase visibility, trust, and conversion. It can even boost your company’s revenue. In addition, it is more cost-effective than other forms of digital marketing, such as PPC ads.
Some of the best SEO agencies in Brisbane are able to deliver amazing results. They have a proven track record of delivering high-quality services and helping businesses grow. Some have even achieved 1st-page rankings for highly competitive search terms in the legal, education, and removalist industries. They have also helped their clients achieve a more positive online reputation by increasing visibility, traffic, and organic growth.
With its vast reach, social media is a powerful tool for connecting brands with their potential audience. A well-executed campaign can engage new customers, drive brand loyalty, and increase revenue.
Despite its power, social media is also complex. It requires a clear understanding of your business’s communications aims and the platforms to use. Then, it must be optimised to deliver results that you can measure and report on.
A professional digital marketing agency can help you create and implement an effective strategy that delivers results. Whether you’re looking for more traffic, leads, or sales, an experienced agency can help you reach your goals. Contact us today to learn how we can help your business grow.
Content marketing is one of the most effective ways to connect with your audience and generate traffic. It includes blog posts, infographics, videos, and downloadable eBooks. These are great ways to promote your business and build meaningful relationships with your customers.
Unlike traditional marketing, which relies on interruption techniques, content marketing engages your customers in a natural way. This strategy creates a long-term relationship with your customers and builds trust in your brand. It also helps you reach new audiences and increase conversions.
For example, Bob runs a boutique cycling store that caters to a specialised group of cyclists. He creates a video series and publishes it on his website and social media to educate his clients.
Digital marketing is constantly evolving and new trends emerge frequently. To stay ahead of the competition, you need to be willing to experiment with different strategies and technologies. These trends include augmented reality, voice search, and artificial intelligence. To know more about Digital Marketing Brisbane, visit the OZY Digital website or call 0240228675.

I think your experience of “rationalist tumblr” is giving you a somewhat skewed sample
Ratblr isn’t what it once was. Not even necessarily in a bad way, the cluster of blogs going by that name nowadays just has a very different vibe. In the old days the biggest pillars on here used to be ppl in fact central to the unambiguous irl capital-R capital-C Rationality Community (kelsey, Ozy, etc), and there was more of an expected fluency with the writings of the great sages (yud/Scott). It was also just more cohesive: more closely knit, more of a set of ingroup signifiers, higher levels of camaraderie and off-site socialising. Nowadays we are mostly like, ppl who hang out w ppl who hung out w ppl who hung out around Serious bayrats, it’s not the same
And even back then, ppl would point out that the tumblr side of the LW diaspora was the less dogmatic online entry point for the community, more centered around a shared set of discourse norms and ongoing conversations than unified by any particular doctrinal affiliation or topical focus. This was very much not true, and still is not true, of spaces like LW and the EA forums, which have a very explicit topics and projects and shared ideological commitments. This goes double for the many interlinking orgs and startups that form the pillars of the irl community in the bay (and smaller local rat/EA communities elsewhere).
You do encounter yr fair share of ppl in these irl communities with definite cultist-like tendencies; I think zack Davis recently described herself as once having like many others regarded EY as smth like the pope. But even there I think that’s at smth of the extreme end; if i want to describe the ideological and cultural cliquishness of the BayRats I am more tempted to gesture towards loose political or cultural movements/scenes (libertarians, evangelicals broadly considered, the kinds of gays who join local queer exchanges on social media) than like, heavens gate. I will say tho that there have at times emerged smaller little cells within the wider community where that comparison seems more apt: Leverage Research comes glaringly to mind, as does brent dills old circle. And I have heard allegations against certain practices at major community pillars like cfar that raise my eyebrows. But like, if Yud told everyone to swallow arsenic-laced flavor-aid, I can say confidently the result would not be mass self-poisoning
Two last things:
A lot of the cult accusations seem come from the fact rats are notorious for group houses and polyamory, which is purely a display of the vices of the accusers
In the past I’ve gotten pretty testy with some ppl on here throwing around the cult allegations but speaking only for myself this was largely just a result of my finding these individuals quite irritating to begin with
ETA: sorry I meant to reblog the one itt mentioning the rat cult, but copypasting posts on mobile is a pain so I’m not gonna
I think there's a thing people try to do that is very noble ("Stay vigilant and watch out for cult recruitment even if you think it won't happen to you") and that often gets paired up with a much more insulting and wrong message ("Intelligent people are actually more likely to be wrong about everything and join cults and there isn't really any defense against them").
Not all of us came out of Midsommar wanting to join the murderous white supremacists, if you get what I mean. People actually have different reactions to these kinds of things.
It feels kind of like if someone made a PSA about how you should not give anyone your Runescape password and you should be suspicious of anyone who requests it or promises to double your gold or whatever but then when you went "Yeah, no shit" they added "Intelligent people are particularly likely to give out their Runescape password to scammers because they are better at coming up with reasons for why the scam might actually work out in their favor, can't really avoid getting scammed after all no matter how cautious you think you are."

New Years is approaching on my side soon (lmfao I say soon but I have another two hours), and so I wanted to put out this quick post ^ O ^ )/ Thank you all so much for liking my Ozy and following me! Some of you not just on here but on my other blogs too! I feel like I don’t say it enough but I truly appreciate it as well as all of you sticking with me through the year, or years for some, through all my chaotic activity. I’m hoping in this year to come that I’ll be able to interact with more of you, so keep a lookout for me randomly popping up in your inbox one day without warning. Forever ago when I first came on tumblr, I honestly didn’t think I’d be sticking around this long. I came on here as a means of coping with stress and depression that came from transitioning into university, and though this was all pretty much a new frontier to me since tumblr rp was like a new frontier a whole millennium ago, I’m glad I stayed around. You’re all so, so creative in your writing, your ideas, and even with your graphics; the things I’ve seen over the years truly floors me. Thank you for continuing to inspire me with this nice little hobby of mine! There’s some people who are really special to me that I love dearly but I won’t list names (fjsdhfksfksd IT'S TOO STRESSFUL IM CRY I SAT HERE FOR LIKE 40 MINS but anyway ahem -clears throat-). Just know that your general presence means the world to me and then some.
Anyway, here's to a new year!

Happy late Winter Solstice everyone! Before the month gets too old and before my memory of two Saturdays ago fades too much more, I want to talk about the NYC solstice event.
Around a year ago I posted a report on my experience at the major NYC (Winter) Secular Solstice event (tl;dr: I had issues because of my decision to drive all the way there and wasn't able to get to the afterparty for this reason but got a lot out of the main event despite being slightly late). At the time I expected to return for a summer solstice event with the same crowd, an NYC version of which appears not to have happened. But on Saturday night I went for my second time to the NYC Secular Solstice -- this time more wisely electing to drive most of the distance and then take a train into Manhattan -- and am very glad I did. (I didn't choose to stay the night, attend the megameetup or unconference events that happened on Friday or Saturday.) Below is a rundown of my experience and takeaways. (Below I'll tag several Tumblr-users whom I got to interact with in person on Saturday; if you are one of those people and would prefer to be un-tagged or have an issue with my description of our interaction please just let me know.)
Like last year I arrived around 20 minutes late to the main event (this time from a combination of sloppy time management and confusion over the names of buildings) but seemed to have missed more than I had last year: I didn't feel like I was there for many speeches/songs before it was time for intermission.
Early into intermission I ran into someone I soon saw was @taymonbeal (one of the very first people I knew on Tumblr from around 2014-2015) who had tipped me off that he would be there. We talked briefly, and I mentioned something about not seeing him on Tumblr much anymore like back in my earliest days here, and he said something about a lot of the Tumblr rationalists migrating away from Tumblr in the wake of the porn ban five years ago. Obviously he didn't mean most of rationalist-adjacent Tumblr (I can attest that almost nobody directly in my orbit left, actually, and my Tumblr experience changed only subtly), and he clarified that he didn't mean necessarily directly in response to the porn ban, but that it instigated a number of changes that eventually resulted in the harder-core rationalist people finding other places to hang out. And now I can't believe I never properly made this connection before: I've noticed for years that major figures like Scott, Ozy, and Kelsey ("the unit of caring") are hardly ever around but once were very active, since probably sometime in 2019, and I never made the connection with the timing of the porn ban in late 2018. It didn't change my Tumblr experience very significantly, since I wasn't directly interacting with those people much, and I was still keeping up with Scott's and Ozy's more serious blog posts elsewhere.
I was a little more relaxed for the second half of the event and able to get into it a bit more, but I overall for some reason didn't find myself getting into the program as much as I did last year. It may have to do with my own mood, the rest of my week (or the mental place I've been in this fall or year in general) or the decreased novelty of the event, rather than anything different about the program itself or how it was run. I recognized many of the songs from having heard them only at last year's solstice event (and possibly looked some up a year ago right afterwards, I don't remember); I think most are really good and (as I may have said before) if productions of the rationalist repertoire of solstice songs were all put together in an album, I would consider buying that album. Anyway, the program seemed very close to last year's apart from some differences in the set of readings. I do specifically remember from last year that the Beatles' "Here Comes the Sun" was done towards the end when the end of the longest night is imagined and the program contains more hopeful numbers, and it wasn't done this year, as well as a song from last year whose lyrics include a poetic description of a smartphone which did not appear this year, although perhaps it was done before I arrived.
Although there is a visible anti-religious streak in the rationalist community for obvious reasons, in a way this kind of event is as religious as, say, a Unitarian Universalist service -- I choose this as a point of comparison mainly because I've been to far more UU services than of any other religion but mostly because there's a different sort of anti-religious streak in UU as well and at least mild overlap with rationalism. During the second half of the solstice event, I busied myself with thinking about why the vibe of this rationalist event still resonated with me a lot more than the vibe of most UU services I've been to, and why I feel more comfortable identifying with rationalist culture as a result. I've already let enough time pass and enough other tasks get in the way to have a very clear memory of my conclusions, but the ethos of this annual rationalist event differs from that of UU services in that
part of the message of the rationalist Secular Solstice is "the world is sad and broken and we have a lot to worry about", whereas that is part of the typical UU message but even more of the latter is about "we are each broken and are coming together to share in each other's suffering";
the winter Secular Solstice (which for obvious reasons is meant to focus on darkness) puts as much emphasis on hope, the goodness of humanity (which in my opinion is an essential aspect of true humanism!) and a possible light at the end of the tunnel, while the main UU congregation I knew kind of made noises about hope and inspiration all the time but this was always outweighed by the emphasis on how both guilty and broken we all are; and
the UU vibe I've seen in the last decade is... the best word I've stumbled upon to describe it is "touchy-feely", and with less intellectualness despite the congregation being disproportionately smart, nerdy, and educated, while the rationalist Secular Solstice has a very cerebral, intellectual aspect while still being moving for a lot of the people involved.
I hadn't been able to find information about an afterparty beforehand and was going to be upset if there wasn't going to be one, because a lot of my intent in going this year was to not fail as I did last year to get more face-to-face interaction and socializing with the Northeastern rationalist crowd. Not only was there an afterparty, which I ultimately found more rewarding than the main event, but it was relatively conveniently nearby (not a long journey over into New Jersey like last year). On the subway ride over, I and a couple of other participants wound up losing the rest of the crowd and traveling on our own -- one of these was @augurydefier who I hadn't known before but who I wound up in pleasant conversation with for a while that evening (it was a bemusingly nice experience to have her ask me about my Tumblr handle, immediately recognize the name "Liskantope" -- guess my pronunciation isn't far from the one others have in their heads -- and introduce me to someone else as a member of rat-adj Tumblr with "rat-adj" pronounced out loud exactly as it should be). I still haven't quite been able to find the Tumblr handle of the other person who was with us on the way over but will edit it in if I do find him and he is all right with it. It's fun and a bit novel to meet people IRL and then become acquainted on Tumblr through this.
The afterparty was in (I think) a hotel lobby and we were among the first ones to show up, but it soon became filled with solstice participants who were all interesting to talk to, including someone I'd met once before at a small ACX meetup event some distance away. The most surreal moment for me was when I spotted @drethelin (someone I've known since my very first days on Tumblr, and since before that from Slate Star Codex comment sections) walking into the room: I'd seen him post selfies from time to time and I hope he doesn't mind me saying that he has a very striking appearance, so I was able to recognize him immediately. I hadn't had any reason to expect to see him. For some reason his real-life name popped into my head immediately from having seen it once on a Twitter screenshot or something (I can only remember the names I've seen the most occasionally and not those of people I see all the time) which (after awkwardly staring at him for a few moments) I addressed him by. I always had an inkling from what I'd seen of him online that he's super laid-back, friendly, and chill and easy to talk to, and that impression turned out to be entirely accurate: soon we were sitting at a table chatting as though we'd been real-life acquaintances for years; we discussed the age-reversal endeavors of Bryan Johnson and Scott Alexander's personality to those who know him as a personal friend and his old LiveJournal community, among other things. He convinced me that I would probably love the rationalist "un-conference" (taking place the next day but I had no plan to go), that it wouldn't be the intimidating, hard-core-rationalisty workshop I'd for some reason been imagining, and that I'll probably look into participating in it next December provided I'm still living/working in the general geographic area.
I didn't get back to my home until past 3am with enough work ahead of me that it's not surprising I didn't get around to reporting on this experience until now, but overall I found it a valuable one and plan to return around next winter's solstice, again, provided I'm still in the area. As I'd already had a very pleasant get-together with @limeadeislife earlier in the day, the Saturday before last I made a personal record of getting to meet / chat with three different people on the same day (Limeade, Taymon, and Drethelin) I'd been long familiar with on rat-adj Tumblr, plus augurydefier ("Slice") who recognized my handle and I've since connected to here. This record for interacting in person with people I otherwise would only know online as Liskantope might not be matched in the future but hopefully at some point it will be.
