back to dream journal adventures, im once again assigned ozkin by my dream self

ok but not for the entire time, i started as myself and slowly animorphed into oz monsterprom in what i could describe as “the opposite of the romance dream from two days ago” sgdfmng

mostly it started easy, with me hanging out with The Gf(tm) and the biggest trouble was “i dont remember how the FUCK i should put on a facemask”, with pretty much everyone else commenting “gio u good???”  at some point we move to the sewers, change of location, change of character, im oz now and we’re saving a fellow classmate from there since they got stuck and for doing it we had to solve a puzzle that we described “like what nemo did with the rock in finding nemo!!!”, and so far things are chill, we go back to the surface and i’m left in the carpet shop my grandma used to have its not a surprise i dream about it, my dreams pretty often take place there or in my grandma’s former house since i spent a LOT of my childhood in either places, so that’s nbd, but what IS a big deal is that instead of my grandma and her co-worker there are three other monster prom ocs - a witch, a ghost and a vampire. i know they don’t look like literally anyone, but in the dream i recognize them as “two formerly abusive friends and my pushy ex boyfriend”, which, yknow.

it’s not really that fun.

i remember very vaguely what happens afterwards, but basically the rest of the dream is about me staying there with these three guys who slowly get more and more nasty with gaslighting, victim blaming and occasional aggressive flirting, to the point that i’m left in a corner to cry until damien shows up to beat them up so uh. at least theres a happy ending ig

theres this person in my sources official server who ive gotten along with pretty well in the past, but recently theyve been openly selfshipping with me HARD and talking abt it near constantly in the server and i. really dont know how to feel about it? like i normally wouldnt care that much about people f/oing me, and i have f/os from my source, but it makes me. so uncomfortable. mainly bc they keep implying that id be taking off my muzzle, going around mauling people, etc. and YES its probably just a running gag but it makes me feel so upset bc i genuinely would Never do that. and idk what to do atp because ive wanted to be friends with this person for a while but now the stuff they say is starting to rlly rub me the wrong way. aaaaa

I tried and failed multiple times to come up with a response to this that didn't sound Oz-adjacent and it's making me angry because I know y'all will use anything I say against me. I know the fact that I have to actively try to not sound like Oz when typing isn't helping my case, but listen. I'm not an Ozkin. I just default to similar syntax when writing. It's not intentional. I hate it here. /j That said,

Underrated Oscar line: *eyeroll* "I'm assuming whatever weird magic this is doesn't come with an infinite supply of money?"

I love how his brand of humor is like. A sarcastic variation of Oz's. Deadpan energy to replace whimsy. Youthful sass vs affectionate teasing. Less joke-y and more of a darkly humorous commentary. Tired teen boy.

Time to ramble cause I can and therefore will! I appreciate that Oscar's simultaneously kept in touch with his sense of humor ("I never agreed to these terms!" "And just to clarify, this is the easy option?" "You wanna make it?" "I thought you guys would appreciate a hot meal after... spending all day looking for me, apparently." "Happy... Huntresses." "Haaaave you always been able to do that?" "This might be a problem." "Great." "Switch sides, huh?"), as well as adopting more of Oz's lighthearted humor/amused manner, especially in Atlas volumes ("*small laugh* I shouldn't be surprised you're so familiar with fairytales." "You and me both." "I get the feeling there's been a few of those tonight.")

Similarly, Ozpin's humor/overall manner has gained that wry Oscar tint ("Maybe you've taken one too many hits." "Don't you get it?") without losing his own brand ("I didn't say you were normal; I said you were sane. There's quite a significant difference between-" "I've lived through my share of them.")

I especially love when it feels like an evolution/combination of both their senses of humor, like something either of them might say, but typically still said in their own character voice, like "I do hope those weren't Beacon graduates" followed by "Y'know, sometimes the burden of saving the world feels overwhelming. But then people like that come along and make me grateful that it's our job and not theirs." Those lines are both said in their own way (though the VAs do utilize a bit of the other's vocal quality) but lean into the shared parts of each other's humor.

"We can't just wave it like a magic wand and make our problems go away" has the Oscar dryness & sassy delivery paired with Ozpin's tendency for metaphor. If Oz had said that line, it'd have erred on the side of playful teasing to lighten the mood, but with Oscar it's a tired expression of reality. "Oh dear. Ambrosius." keeps Ozpin's character voice while emulating the vibe of Oscar's short-form situational comments.

"I think you're needed elsewhere." is another nice example of Oscar's functional humor gaining Oz's amusement, as well as fitting both of their proclivity for affectionate teasing. Or, again, "Maybe you've taken one too many hits." (Listen, Oz hasn't had much chance to joke since v5, I only have so much to work with here) combines Oz's light humor in dark times with Oscar's particular vibe of sassy commentary on the negative of a situation. It serves to lighten the mood, but also to acknowledge the problem and progress the conversation, teasing and prompting at once. In this way, outside of the initial "Hmm," it primarily resembles Oscar's style.

[Side note: while Oscar's attempt at impersonating Ozpin was excellent and mostly convincing, his dryly unamused affect gave him away (to me, at least) -- he said an Ozpin thing in an Ozpin voice, but his deadpan delivery was far too Oscar.]

Just. I love the way they embody this combo. Amused sarcasm and sarcastic amusement. Old man sass + teenage boy sass. It pairs well and I'm looking forward to seeing more and watching it evolve. Hopefully they'll have more opportunities for jokes now that they're not, y'know, being tortured in a war.

PS: Oz has laughed at Oscar's jokes several times; now all we need is the inverse. C'mon, Vacuo, give us the good Content!
