The Oxford Botanic Garden

This week was the first "Winter Wonders" lunchtime talk at the Oxford Botanic Garden for the year. The timing couldn't be better as I have exactly one hour for lunch between classes and the talks happen in just the right spacing to allow me to get there, enjoy the 20 minute wellbeing talk focused on one plant in the garden each week, then make it back to college in time to wolf something down and get back to class again. This week the talk was on snowdrops, which are mythologically associated with Imbolc and Candlemas, so a timely way to connect with nature as well as to enjoy the beautiful architecture of the garden. The rain was encroaching, but I stayed dry and had a lovely time.

Week two of the lunchtime talks at the Oxford Botanic Garden. This week the focus on was scented plants, amazing how many are actually in bloom already. Some snaps...

when we started making plans for this trip I said "what will we do in Oxford?" and Matt said "visit Will and Lyra's bench." And that was the only firm plan we made for Oxford. Matt's attachment to that series and mine are of different kinds, in that they wanted to see the bench but not sit on it or touch it, so as not to bring it too far out of the book into this reality. In that spirit, I'm going to put the pictures I took behind a cut, just in case it would break the spell of an internal world for anyone to see them. (it looked different than I thought). the robin coming to say hello was a nice touch.
