I have no proof but I’d be willing to bet that the reason Sierra McClain isn’t coming back to 911: Lone Star is because of Rob Lowe’s ginormous ego and bloated paycheck.

I am at "bitch eating crackers" stage with Owen. 05x06 clearly set up the barn raising as a heartwarming event. All I could see was Owen being a boundary trampling asshole again. MAYBE Marlene has some ideas about what a rebuilt barn should be, OWEN. MAYBE Marlene would like to be sure SOMEONE currently building her barn has some construction experience, OWEN. Who is paying for this, OWEN? Where'd you get the building plans, OWEN?
Just show up at this woman's place of business and just take over, OWEN. Don't worry, I am sure you know better than Marlene does what she needs!

Okay but like, this lady made the check out to Owen directly and sent him a VENMO for 40 grand. What if he had just...kept the money. She had no way to ensure it went to the actual charity, so aside from it making some dumb pointless drama, it's also just plain dumb! If she actually cared that much about the charity she would have made sure the money waa going to it and not risk some stranger just keeping it. Owen was going to throw it out!

on the one hand i feel like the stories we’ve gotten on lone star have been better, and you can tell that like, Natacha Karam was advocating for better writing & I bet you anything Brian Michael Smith said something too, bc introducing a love interest who knows off the bat he’s trans and is chill is an infinitely better story than anything he’s gotten, and we’ve gotten so much more characterization for Marjan and Carlos and TK, and lots of cute firefam stuff with everyone involved but the thing is, the show is still completely dominated by Owen and his nonsense that has nothing to do with being a firefighter bc this show refuses to let itself be GREAT

Hey! I just finished 9-1-1 and I'm already craving more... Have you seen Lone Star and if so, would you recommend it?
hey! i've watched the first two seasons of lone star and a bit of the third. but i feel like i can't really give a definitive answer as to whether i recommend it or not because i feel like it's just a very individual thing? personally i liked a lot of parts but the main reason i didn't continue was the amount of screen time that was taken up by owen. nobody likes his character, including me, and yet he seems to get a lot more screentime than any other character, despite there definitely being a few interesting characters on the team. but yeah, personally i just got tired of having to skip through owen's scenes all the time and i never got attached enough to any of the other characters to put up with owen for them.
nonetheless, i can absolutely see why a lot of people enjoy lone star and i feel like if you watch one or two episodes, you'll quickly get a feel for whether you think you'll like the show or not (although as far as i remember, s1 was the worst season. but still)
lone star does have lots of loveable characters, lots of sweet group scenes, as well as some interesting emergencies, so if that's the kind of stuff you're looking for and you think you might be able to look past the horrid filter the episodes have and owen most likely boring you to death, i'd say give it a shot

The only reason I don’t watch 911 lone star live is because I can skip all Owen Strand scenes. This last episode just reminded me why I don’t like this guy.

Owen is once again being stupid. But is this new?
I doubt his ability to Captain if he can't pick someone to be his LT

So I finished Season 2 of 9 1 1 Lone Star and wanted to give a general thoughts on each of the characters so far:
Owen Strand: So overused. Like I generally didn't mind him at first and even kind of liked the character, but the writers constant need to make him center of every season, even putting him needlessly into other people's stories got old really fast.
TK Strand: Generally like him a lot, however I saw someone point out the actors range was somewhat limited and now it's hard not to notice he does have a pretty set expression a lot of the time. Still, my desperate need for as many LGBT romances in various shows as possible means I still have a bit of a soft spot for the guy.
Grace Ryder: An absolute sweetheart and one half of my favourite ship in the show.
Judd Ryder: The second half of my favourite ship and a really fun and enjoyable character. When he was first introduced I immediately felt sympathy for him and my liking has only grown the more we get to know the guy.
Marjan Marwani: A really fun and loveable character! The sad part is, I feel like she could easily become my favourite character if she was just given time to. It feels like she's barely given any real story compared to the others and I want more of her, damn it!
Paul Strickland: Same as Marjan. I love the character, I'm super excited for the fact that he's actually protrayed by a trans man, but I don't feel like I know him enough to love him as much as I want to. Give the guy some more focus and screen time already!
Carlos Reyes: Another delightful character. Kinda hope we get to see a bit more of him next season, maybe more story that isn't purely his romance with TK? I love the ship but I want to love the character on his own and I don't feel like I'm quite there yet.
Mateo Chavez: Pretty neutral about him. He's a fine enough character, has a few moments and l enjoy his stories well enough.
Tommy Vega: In my opinion, she is a big improvment to the previous captain. The episode of her husband passing gutted me (for the most part...) and I love her.
Nancy Gillian: Same as Mateo. Pretty neutral. I like her, enjoy her scenes but have no real strong feelings either way.
Overal my main critic is definitely the overuse of some characters while others get neglected. It also feels a lot more over the top and unrealistically dramatic than the original managed to be even at it's most over the top moments.

I don’t spend much time in the 911 lone star tag so I gotta ask: have we been talking about the way that centering owen strand/rob lowe among such a diverse cast just furthers the marginalization of black, brown, queer, and women’s stories in popular media?
Having first responder characters who are of color, queer, and/or women but refusing to develop them and/or making them side characters in their own stories/episodes in order to center a cisgender, heterosexual white man IS NOT ORIGINAL, IS NOT INTERESTING, IS NOT PROGRESS, AND MOST CERTAINLY IS NOT DOING IRL MARGINALIZED GROUPS ANY FAVORS!!!
On top of that, having Owen weigh in on every aspect of their lives and give them advice on everything is utterly laughable. At the very least, Owen is not in a position to be their sage advisor on matters directly tied to their marginalized identities. Idc how much he’s learned or figured out over the years, I’m not here for him in that role.
What would impress me is Owen consciously deferring to more appropriate people to give such guidance, listening intently to what’s said, and quietly nodding while talking notes. It would also be impressive if he’d let his team shine by seeking out their expertise on calls in the field (like Paul’s expert powers of observation and investigation, Marjan’s pristine technical skills with ropes/harnesses, Judd as a co-captain or captain in training, etc) as professional development or recommend them for specialized training opportunities or send them to give presentations at the academy. I dunno. Something. Anything. I just want Owen Strand to sit tf down because he’s the least compelling character and pretending like he’s the only interesting person in the 126 is making my head and heart hurt in universe and it’s pissing me off given the irl multicultural considerations listed earlier in this post, which the show is aggressively ignoring.
Okay. Them’s my 126 cents. Thanks for attending my TED Talk.

The way I do get a laugh about Owen's banter but they just keep sticking him in storylines that I do not care about and do not have anything to do with him doing his job is soooo infuriating! I WANT to like him and I WANT to enjoy his scenes, but I don't tune in to this show to watch the FBI investigate shit.
