Honestly, it's hard for me to get excited about this or even the possibility of a Texas Ranger Carlos spin-off from 911 Lone Star
For one thing, while S8 is off to an amazing start, similar arguments could be made for S7 up to this point (compared to previous seasons). There are also some leftover flaws from last season that have yet to be fixed.
But more than that, the fact that Lone Star is ending when it has been literally getting better every season. Even only five episodes in, S5 is arguably the best of them all, and the only argument is we're missing Grace.
Even if the Carlos spin-off happens, we might get TK but maybe not much and probably not in every episode, and we might never see the rest of the 126 ever again. I love Tarlos but I also love Paul, Nancy, Mateo, Marjan, Judd and especially Tommy (Grace too of course). I would rather see their stories continued than try to get interested in either of these new shows.

I have no proof but I’d be willing to bet that the reason Sierra McClain isn’t coming back to 911: Lone Star is because of Rob Lowe’s ginormous ego and bloated paycheck.

I am at "bitch eating crackers" stage with Owen. 05x06 clearly set up the barn raising as a heartwarming event. All I could see was Owen being a boundary trampling asshole again. MAYBE Marlene has some ideas about what a rebuilt barn should be, OWEN. MAYBE Marlene would like to be sure SOMEONE currently building her barn has some construction experience, OWEN. Who is paying for this, OWEN? Where'd you get the building plans, OWEN?
Just show up at this woman's place of business and just take over, OWEN. Don't worry, I am sure you know better than Marlene does what she needs!

Bobby and Owen could be paired against each other in a US Fire Departments Charity MMA match and Owen would spend 3 episodes bragging about how he’ll “go easy on the guy” and how he’ll “let it be fair”, only for Bobby to just. Fucking deck him in the ring and Owen’s out like a light.

Okay but like, this lady made the check out to Owen directly and sent him a VENMO for 40 grand. What if he had just...kept the money. She had no way to ensure it went to the actual charity, so aside from it making some dumb pointless drama, it's also just plain dumb! If she actually cared that much about the charity she would have made sure the money waa going to it and not risk some stranger just keeping it. Owen was going to throw it out!
#911 lone star#lone star spoilers#what was even the point of all that?!#we could have had other emergency calls with the 126 instead of just ambulance calls!#just give it a rest with the random owen plots that involve side characters and so consequently sideline the rest of the main characters#not one word of follow up on marjan?!#no there wasn't time we needed multiple sex scenes with owen 🙄🙄🙄#anti owen strand#for blacklisting purposes#but really it's about the writing choices they are making because when he's actually doing his job he's so good and i enjoy seeing him

on the one hand i feel like the stories we’ve gotten on lone star have been better, and you can tell that like, Natacha Karam was advocating for better writing & I bet you anything Brian Michael Smith said something too, bc introducing a love interest who knows off the bat he’s trans and is chill is an infinitely better story than anything he’s gotten, and we’ve gotten so much more characterization for Marjan and Carlos and TK, and lots of cute firefam stuff with everyone involved but the thing is, the show is still completely dominated by Owen and his nonsense that has nothing to do with being a firefighter bc this show refuses to let itself be GREAT

The fact that Owen has literally gotten into physical fights and is so chaotic and impulsive that his own team members assume the HR visit is for him is really something that should’ve been talked about more in-show
#911 lone star#911 lone star spoilers#anti owen strand#(been trying not to post hate on him but my mom is behind lmao)#like and also the fact that Marjan#who happens to be a Muslim woc#is the one facing major issues and NOT the white man who is literally the captain and should be held more accountable#is such typical bullshit but again they don’t really address that inshow#Owen is a manbaby and I just desperately want him to grow up#and i am not looking forward to him making the Tarlos wedding planning drama about him#because everything has to be

Hey! I just finished 9-1-1 and I'm already craving more... Have you seen Lone Star and if so, would you recommend it?
hey! i've watched the first two seasons of lone star and a bit of the third. but i feel like i can't really give a definitive answer as to whether i recommend it or not because i feel like it's just a very individual thing? personally i liked a lot of parts but the main reason i didn't continue was the amount of screen time that was taken up by owen. nobody likes his character, including me, and yet he seems to get a lot more screentime than any other character, despite there definitely being a few interesting characters on the team. but yeah, personally i just got tired of having to skip through owen's scenes all the time and i never got attached enough to any of the other characters to put up with owen for them.
nonetheless, i can absolutely see why a lot of people enjoy lone star and i feel like if you watch one or two episodes, you'll quickly get a feel for whether you think you'll like the show or not (although as far as i remember, s1 was the worst season. but still)
lone star does have lots of loveable characters, lots of sweet group scenes, as well as some interesting emergencies, so if that's the kind of stuff you're looking for and you think you might be able to look past the horrid filter the episodes have and owen most likely boring you to death, i'd say give it a shot

The only reason I don’t watch 911 lone star live is because I can skip all Owen Strand scenes. This last episode just reminded me why I don’t like this guy.

Owen is once again being stupid. But is this new?
I doubt his ability to Captain if he can't pick someone to be his LT

So I finished Season 2 of 9 1 1 Lone Star and wanted to give a general thoughts on each of the characters so far:
Owen Strand: So overused. Like I generally didn't mind him at first and even kind of liked the character, but the writers constant need to make him center of every season, even putting him needlessly into other people's stories got old really fast.
TK Strand: Generally like him a lot, however I saw someone point out the actors range was somewhat limited and now it's hard not to notice he does have a pretty set expression a lot of the time. Still, my desperate need for as many LGBT romances in various shows as possible means I still have a bit of a soft spot for the guy.
Grace Ryder: An absolute sweetheart and one half of my favourite ship in the show.
Judd Ryder: The second half of my favourite ship and a really fun and enjoyable character. When he was first introduced I immediately felt sympathy for him and my liking has only grown the more we get to know the guy.
Marjan Marwani: A really fun and loveable character! The sad part is, I feel like she could easily become my favourite character if she was just given time to. It feels like she's barely given any real story compared to the others and I want more of her, damn it!
Paul Strickland: Same as Marjan. I love the character, I'm super excited for the fact that he's actually protrayed by a trans man, but I don't feel like I know him enough to love him as much as I want to. Give the guy some more focus and screen time already!
Carlos Reyes: Another delightful character. Kinda hope we get to see a bit more of him next season, maybe more story that isn't purely his romance with TK? I love the ship but I want to love the character on his own and I don't feel like I'm quite there yet.
Mateo Chavez: Pretty neutral about him. He's a fine enough character, has a few moments and l enjoy his stories well enough.
Tommy Vega: In my opinion, she is a big improvment to the previous captain. The episode of her husband passing gutted me (for the most part...) and I love her.
Nancy Gillian: Same as Mateo. Pretty neutral. I like her, enjoy her scenes but have no real strong feelings either way.
Overal my main critic is definitely the overuse of some characters while others get neglected. It also feels a lot more over the top and unrealistically dramatic than the original managed to be even at it's most over the top moments.

Yeah, we all know why Bobby's "canonical biological" children are surely not in his firehouse lol Dad of the year.
I genuinely can't tell if you're serious or not but I've been itching to reblog a reply to the other ask so I'll just do it here (thanks for the convenience 😘)
never have I said that bobby is perfect. never have I said that he hasn't made mistakes. and yes, accidentally starting a fire that results in hundreds of deaths (including his family) is a pretty fucking huge mistake. owen certainly doesn't have that much blood on his hands. but the difference between them, the thing that makes bobby a more interesting and likeable character, is that every minute of bobby's screentime since the very first episode has been showing him trying to make amends for his mistake. he had his notebook in season 1, that he explicitly stated was the "ledger" to balance out the scales: he took 148 lives in that fire. he dedicated his life to save 148 by being a better firefighter and a better man (he started battling his addiction as well, if you remember).
owen on the other hand, has never once shown any ounce of this. he's made mistakes, both as a parent to tk and as a person. normally this wouldn't be grounds for me to hate him so much, since mistakes are what make the characters human, but the thing about owen is that there's no follow-up. there's no trying to fix his mistake or make amends. there isn't even a fucking apology. every single one of owen's mistakes are swept under the rug and treated like some Big Heroic Thing (tm) because owen can't do anything wrong and thus can't be shown apologizing for anything because he Was Never Wrong In The First Place.*
*admittedly this is more a result of the writing itself than owen's actual character, since all of lone star has this narrative of owen being The Coolest Perfectest Guy Ever. but in my eyes that makes it even worse, because there's nothing more frustrating than seeing this guy who has canonically done Some Shit receive zero accountability for it, even from characters who are the most prone to point things out/be blunt (such as judd, marjan, or paul). not only is the writing affecting owen, but it's affecting everyone else by literally making them act ooc when it comes to owen.
bobby, on the other hand. his whole arc in season 1 involves him coming to terms with his past and slowly opening up to new opportunities for love (both with the 118 family and with athena). he's struggled and fought and reconciled every step of the way to get to where he is now, and it hasn't been easy. and even now that he has the 118 and a family with athena and her kids, he's still doing everything he can to make amends for what he did to his family years ago.
the episode "may day" comes immediately to mind as one of the biggest examples of this. may is trapped inside the burning call center, and bobby is finding himself reliving the worst night of his life. (this seems to be the theme of the episode, as chim and albert went topside to vent the roof---exactly how kevin died years ago.) but bobby straps on his gear and runs in after may. he even goes so far as to shield her with his body as the roof collapses, but they both make it out safe and relatively unharmed.
in my opinion, may day was the episode where bobby finally made amends and found peace. yes, he lost his family to fire. yes, it was partially his fault. but for 5 seasons he's been scraping and fighting to make amends and "balance out the ledgers," and now he finally had, by saving may.
even more than that, the reason why I love bobby as the Firehouse Dad so much is that he's been shown to be the firehouse dad. he comforts and supports them when they need it. he teaches them how to cook (which is how he shows love imo but that's a topic for another post). he clearly cares so deeply about every single firefighter in the 118, and it's hard not to love that.
and back to owen. he has his moments (such as supporting marjan in "human resources"), but for the most part it's hard to see him really filling that role (especially when the narrative is TELLING us that he is, but not really SHOWING us). he's so self-centered and egocentric that he overlooks and sometimes even downright ignores things inside his own house, and yet the narrative still paints him as a perfect fire captain who has never made a single mistake his entire life. despite the entire show glaringly pointing to the contrary.
tldr: the reason I love bobby so much more than owen is because, while they've both made mistakes, bobby is the only one who has fought for redemption for those mistakes throughout 5 entire seasons of the show's runtime, whereas owen's mistakes are overwritten and ignored by both him and the overall writing and there's no effort from owen to apologize or try harder to fix things.
#ik anon isnt gonna care abt this because they cant read if theyre trying to defend owen in MY inbox#but i wanted to type out this rant and they gave me a perfect opportunity to do that <3#ty for ur service o7#i officially dub thee#rob lowe anon#also pspspspsps here's a piece of that owen rant that people were wanting#anti owen strand#bobby nash#911 abc#911 lone star#911 meta#<- i guess
