the nowhere king is still one of the coolest most interesting concepts for a villain i've ever come across... and i say concept because season 2 of centaurworld didn't go super great.
like the pacing was just... off. it took an entire season of build up for us to even See him for the first time and then we learn his whole deal immediately within like 35 minutes of the finale. it's just too much packed in - and this isn't so much the writers' fault as it is netflix's because we all know netflix loves to cancel animated shows after 1-2 seasons so i feel like the writers did their best to squeeze everything they had planned into the painfully small amount of room they were given.
there are scenes in that finale that tell me the writers Wanted to build certain things up more and if they had been able to it would have been one of the most stunning finales in any show. like the sequence where we see the elk slowly deteriorating into nothing but bones and rot from the magical radiation of the key. or the scene where the mutated bayden swoops in and the birdtaurs realize who he is (the whole final battle sequence is pretty fucking impressive even with all of s2's flaws). or the scene where the general stabs rider.
SERIOUSLY that one could have been MONUMENTAL like it's pretty insane as is but the problem is. we never really got to know the general. it's obvious the writers wanted to establish a father-daughter dynamic between him and rider, but it just... didn't pan out with all the time constraints. but had they been able to establish that properly... oh my god. having him turn around and stab her without remorse would have been fucking NUTSSS it would have been so good. centaurworld could have been so good!!!!!!!!!!! fuck!!!!!! damn you netflix
#overall i enjoy centaurworld and like.#the concept behind the nowhere king and what it would have looked like if it had been executed properly is really impressive to me#like that's the sort of thing i aim for with my own writing. build up that actually pays off and is enjoyable to sit through#all these bits of foreshadowing that click together. the answer was in front of you all along - why weren't you paying attention?#idk i love it and i love story telling so so so so so so much#other than ^ all that up there my other major gripe with centaurworld is how it doesn't know what it wants its humor to be#a lot of the show IS funny and then there's like a billion fart jokes and you're like. who is this for.#animation is top notch though no complaints there

Fierce x Silt would be an ABSOLUTE POWER COUPLE and you are welcome to ship them all you want (as always) but in cannon Fiercestripe would never, even for a moment, consider taking another mate. If Wildfirecry dies before her she will wait that shit out cause she's not single, her husband is just in starclan. I honestly think that even without Wildfirecry in the picture she's just too much of a caretaker/mom friend to ever be in a relationship with someone younger than her. Fiercestripe needs her mate to be the one person in her life that she is not worried about if that makes sense? She'll help find Silt a nice new boyfriend who is not 48 moons older than her and they can be crochety grandparents in the elder's den together.
No. <3
Thank you! And do not be sorry because YES! You're so right! She's seeing herself in the stars and so she doesn't look any farther into it but it's just an image she's projecting, not something someone is showing her. She also doesn't put any thought into the fact that in order to walk amongst the stars she would have to pass away so, she's literally seeing a future where she dies due to her own inflated self image and it just inflates her self image more. It's a self fulfilling prophecy and it makes me love her and her story so much!
It was not intentional as I haven't watched centaurworld, but upon listening to it I see what you mean! It definitely fits in with what I was trying to reference, which are those kinda ominous lullabies (hush a bye baby was the specific one that came to mind while drawing), but to be honest with you it's a relatively minor detail in the overall comic. What the character is saying is a lot less important than what the character is about to do so i didn't put a ton of thought into it.
Thank you! I am also shocked by how little time has passed in story like what do you mean we aren't even at two years yet? Eklutna wasn't even here for a moon? How is that possible?! I know that Moon 21 brought and is still bringing a LOT of people to the blog and I am so grateful for that! Loudclan gained like 200 followers over my break and that's AWESOME but also a little bit terrifying tbh. Don't worry I also got attached to Mothtree and I was like lying in bed thinking about the fact that she dies for like three whole months while I and everyone else drew cute art of her.
Thank you! I'm so happy to be at a point where I'm happy with my art and my process and that has a lot to do with all the support I've gotten from you guys! You're an awesome community who has encouraged my growth at every opportunity and I couldn't be luckier! All that said I hope you get to enjoy a minor version of the same process all over again as I get back in the routine of drawing cats again after my break lol.
I mean... they are kinda yellow... could that mean... PACKMAN IS THE BABYDADDY?!?!?!
I did really enjoy my break! I got to go to Greece and Germany with some of my best friends and then I came home and cracked down on school work (which wasn't necessarily fun, but feels good to be done with), and now I am rested and relaxed and ready to get back into it!
Thank you! I try to put a lot of thought into them! Things like that are generally the first thing that I envision when I'm formulating a comic page and then I build the rest of it around that original idea which I hope helps to make the pages more dynamic and less repetitive.
Thank you, I can't wait to finally drop Part 2! Only 5 more days!

So I binged Centaurworld and have spent the last week processing and need to get it out of my system because I havent seen anyone else with this take -
I find it weird that the crimes of the General and Elk are laid at the feet of the Elktaur. After the split, the Elktaur no longer existed; the Elk and General may have each encompassed a half of who he was, but became separate entities by splitting.
The Elk and General were of the Elktaur, but weren't themselves the Elktaur. It's entirely possible I'm digging too deep into what was meant to be a Y7 kids show, but it really bugged me because intention, potential, and action aren't the same things. The Elktaur may have always had the potential to become what the Elk and General did, but he didn't commit any of the actions. Because he no longer existed. We can argue about intentions all day long without getting anywhere; partly because the show never really got into that aspect, but mostly because, in the end, what matters is action. You can intend to cause hurt without ever actually doing so - intention and potential do not make one evil/ a criminal/ etc.
Like, if I clone myself and that clone goes on to become an interdimensional war criminal, am I supposed to be punished as well? Of course not - the copy was me, until it wasn't.
This is a classic Mind-Body Problem and fits the scenario around the Elktaur - can his two component parts really be considered to be a single entity? But if they actually were a single entity, none of this would be happening at all. If we brought a whole version of the Elktaur to stand before his components, would he also be considered part of that conglomerate?
Is one not the sum of their experiences? How then, can two beings with very different experiences be said to be the same? Isn't that why, post-unification, the Elktaur has two voices?
Just to be clear, I'm totally on board with the actual events of the ending - I think killing the guy was a mercy, but that's a different discussion - but I find the reasoning to be questionable. I blame Netflix and thier pattern of canceling shows too early for the writing team not being able to delve further into some really interesting philosophical conundrums surrounding the plot. I did enjoy the show overall, but the Elktaur and his pieces were by far the most interesting thing going on. I totally understand that the juxtaposition of wacky and serious was 100% the point, but that plot thread was simply too good - it made everything else feel like a distraction 😂

My Top 12 TGaMM S2 songs (in no particular order)
Kinda like in Centaurworld, I found more songs in S1 than S2 that I liked but that's not to say that the songs weren't enjoyable. It's just a shame I won't be able to make a S3 list T_T
Anyways, here's my Top 12 TGaMM S2 songs in no particular order:
12. Frightful No More [A Doll to Die For]
youtube
It's great to hear Lord Hater again and a song that's an homage to "Everything's Coming Up Roses" (Gypsy) and "The Rain in Spain" (My Fair Lady)...at least that's what it make me think of.
11. It's Just Your Masterpiece in You [Faint of Art]
youtube
This episode was a pretty nice message on art block and a fear of failure that a lot of artists face, especially when they haven't done anything in years. I tend to procrastinate by snacking, which of course I can't draw with food fingers (even when using a napkin) so I gotta wait till it goes away, oh whoops, now the days ended, oh well, tomorrow...
10.Thai Culture Cram [100% Molly McGee]
A fun song showing the lengths that Molly is willing to go to learn half of her culture. Granted she didn't realize that this stuff takes time but she's on the right path.
9.Me & My Dad [Like Father, Like Libby]
youtube
Kid's who have an absentee parent def felt what Libby is singing about in this one. It just sucks when someone who should be important in your life, doesn't take it as serious as you'd wish they would.
8. Hit Restart [Perfect Day]
Gotta love how relaxed the singer is while describing the continuiously hectic attempts Molly and Scratch make at having a perfect first day of the year.
7. Identity Crisis [Davenport's in Demise]
youtube
It's a shame we didn't get more from Andrea this season, especially after this ep. I know we would've gotten her and Alina in S3 but still, I would've liked to see how her and Molly are friends
6. Maybe Next Time [The End] (Spoilers)
youtube
Scratch's backstory was a gut-punch, especially for those of us that feel like we're wasting our lives away. It does kinda remind me of a more sad version of "I Remember It Well" (Gigi)
5. Enjoy Your Afterlife [The New (Para)Normal]
A fun song with the Ghost Council about life after the Chairman's defeat that kinda reminds me of "Go Back to City Hall" in S1
4. You Got to Be Low-Key [The (After)Life of the Party]
youtube
Jinx is such a little shit in this song. Not to mention this was the ep that confirmed that Geoff and Jeff are married
3. Back to Misery [Jinx vs the Human World]
Gotta love a villain song. Just a shame we didn't get more.
2. Trying to Find [All in the Mind]
youtube
Love the abstract visuals of going through someone's mind and the soft vocals and instrumentals.
Honorable Mention 1: You've Been Jinxed [Jinx!]
Honorable Mention 2: Feeling Like MY Old Self Again/Small Town America [Kenny's Falling Star]
Honorable Mention 3: Happy Happy Death Day [The Many Lives of Scratch]
1.This House is Haunted [Frightmares on Main Street]
youtube
Love this homage to "Thriller" but it's also to see ghosts being able to let loose. A great Halloween special
As stated before, it's a shame that we won't get anymore eps but at least what we've gotten were great. Idk if I should do an overall list

Habin Hotel and the horrors of bad pacing
I really wanted to like this show. I tried to, but the problems are glaring. The pacing is terrible. some episodes should have been 2-3 episode arcs, and numerous songs covered what should have been entire episodes or even season-long arcs. by the finale, nobody had enough character development for their fates to matter, the relationship between the main lesbians was practically non-existent, and interpersonal conflicts resolved so fast we didn't even get to really enjoy the drama. I love musicals, but this is the first one i've ever seen where i've caught myself dreading the next song. Some I'd listen to again, but most were... aight, i guess. Overall, I'm disappointed because this show reeks of wasted potential, and the pacing is the the root of it.
Honestly, the only thing i think it did well was depict the manipulative ways some people handle being survivors of SA, which is one of the only things i've so far heard criticized.
My biggest takeaway is this: watch Centaurworld instead.
#Content warning#SA#Hazbin hotel#review#watch centaurworld if you want a better musical about queers

gotta love how Centaurworld was like ooo look at these cute colorful singing cartoony characters in a sparkly fantasy world and then suddenly boom horrifying eldritch dark souls boss
RIGHT.... i have mixed feelings on it after just finishing rewatching season 1... like i know the whole point is that hes out of place and shocking and horrifying etc but it feels a little bizarre from a WRITING perspective too? cause 90% of the time the humor and writing overall is pretty juvenile LOL. and thats not supposed to be like a dig on it or anything, it being silly and cute and dumb is fine, but then when it suddenly pulls that guy out it feels jarring in the wrong way? SHRUUUG I DONT THINK IM WORDING MYSELF WELL and again not meant to be a major dig at the show i do (overall) enjoy it a lot
#was gonna keep rewatching into season 2 but the site i use is being buggy =_=#though i do remember when i first watched season 2 back when it first came out i had. Complaints#mumbling

My Thoughts on Centaurworld
Centaurworld is a show that’s pretty much impossible to describe to someone else. It contains such a wide variety of heavy themes and wildly different tones that any description wouldn’t really do the show justice. It can be colorful and quirky one moment and then be dark and tragic the next. One moment you completely understand why this is a Y7 show then the next you have no idea how it managed to get a rating below a PG rating. I will say for certain though that Centaurworld is a wacky, fun, and surprisingly heartfelt ride from start to finish. There’s so much to talk about and cover so I’ll just get right into it.
With season 2 having just released I can talk about the series as a whole. I really enjoyed the whole thing but I will say I think the first season is overall stronger than the second. The first half of the second season meanders and doesn’t quite seem to know what it wants to do and as a result it makes it so that the second half is jam packed with all this progression, character development, and twists that I think would have been better served being spread out over the course of the season. One big thing is that the general should have gotten more screen time and his relationship with rider should have been expanded upon because of how important he is in the finale. Also Wammawink gets sidelined pretty hard in this season in comparison to her role in the first. They seemed to be setting Wammawink up for a much bigger role in the finale in the first season with her being revealed to be a shaman in training, have powerful magic and potential, and have a tragic backstory that makes her the perfect candidate of the characters from centaurworld to want to take the minotaurs down. It just seemed really strange that they would backtrack on Wammawink’s importance especially with how well received she has been.
Pacing issues and Wammawink’s sidelining aside the final 4 episodes of season 2 were really good. They managed to fit a lot of backstory and world building alongside the main story without it feeling overcrowded which is a struggle for most shows to do. And while I think the character build-up between The Nowhere King, The General, and The Purple Haired Woman in the present timeline was lacking I still found their ending to be emotional especially the reprise of the nowhere king lullaby during his final moments.
The characters are probably what is most likely to make or break the series for you. I had a lot of fun with the characters. The only one I wasn’t a big fan of was Durpleton because I wasn’t a fan of the humor that he was used for especially in the first season. I liked him more in the second when he became a father to Stabby and we learned his backstory. Everyone else I really liked with Wammawink and Zulius being my favorites. The reveal of Wammawink’s backstory was really well done. Horse seeing her home destroyed and thinking that she’s returned home only to see a baby Wammawink alone among the wreckage was devastating. That one reveal makes so much about Wammawink snap into place and you completely understand her character in just a few minutes. This along with her moment in the season 1 finale where she asks the purple haired woman to let her go back into the void with her friends really cemented Wammawink as a favorite of mine. Zulius is just pure fun and I love his larger than life energy while still being a team player and caring about his herd which is a welcome departure from his character archetype.
Horse herself has a strong arc in season 1 and I was invested in her getting back to rider. I didn’t expect how far the show would go in exploring the pain and effects of losing a loved one. Episode 8 was a thinly disguised metaphor for depression and suicide that actually covered the topic with quite a lot of tact that I wasn’t expecting from the show because the marketing does not prepare you for the darker aspects of centaurworld at all. I like how Horse becoming more emotional and soft, both literally and metaphorically, is shown as horse growing and doesn’t make her a less capable warrior in the slightest.
I had a lot of fun with this show and I really think that other people should give it a shot. I hope everyone else had as much fun as I did and I can’t wait to see what netflix and Megan Nicole Dong do next in animation. (Netflix is on a roll with its animated originals. They’ve had so many great animated shows release this year. Centaurworld, Arcane, Maya and the Three, Inside Job, etc. Netflix has become my go to for animated shows.)

actually more centaurworld spoilers bc i really really wanna talk abt this one thing
like first as a disclaimer, there were a good handful of things that i wasnt super into overall this season, mostly in terms of like the kinda tonal dissonance between the comedy and the drama aspects and the way certain arcs felt sorta underbaked. that said, i did enjoy it and i think like considering the scale of the story they were trying to tell and the way they were telling, they did the best they could possibly do and i do respect that.
the thing im like actively fixated on rn tho is how much i love the princess part in the story this season (i also think the choice to leave so many characters unnamed and reduced to just their title/role was like. interesting in a very fairytale-like way. but thats a whole other topic..)
i feel like it wouldve been so easy to have the princess forgive the nowhere king/the general in the end. i never expected the narrative to vindicate her as much as it ended up doing. in fact when their history was hinted at in season one i kinda assumed that she was the one who had wronged him, based on their interaction and the overall sorta character that had begun to be established for her. it was kind of a.. well not pleasant, but maybe like a satisfying surprise to me that the relationship was a lot more complex than that.
although the nowhere kings backstory is deeply sympathetic, the thing i really appreciated was how the story didnt flinch away from the fact that the princess was the one who suffered, perhaps the most, due to the infatuation he projected onto her.
like, she did love him. she says it outright and even before that never exactly hid her affections. the inciting incident doesnt end up being some grand betrayal or unavoidable heartbreak like i think i was somewhat led to believe, its that the elktaur feels this love for her, but never enough to ever really trust her or be honest with her. and that destroys her, it destroys any semblance of the person she once loved, it destroys her entire world. which makes me kind of darkly relieved that the story doesnt let him off the hook for that.
yes the nowhere king is sympathetic. yes he was acting out of desperation and, arguably, good intentions. it isnt enough. and i think its really powerful that in the end the princess has that interaction with him that reads to me as “i love you, i truly do, but i cant forgive you”. its mercy in a way, but more importantly its her finally being allowed catharsis for what has been done to her. it communicates a sorta rare sentiment, especially in these kinds of shows, that a person can love someone completely earnestly and still hurt them with how they choose to express it. as well as a perhaps just as rare sentiment that you can truly feel for a character and still recognize that their actions are irredeemable.
centaurworld isnt always the most clear and definitely not the most graceful with some of its messaging, but this whole underlying story of a beautiful, kind person who was traumatized by having to bear the weight of another persons warped love for her was surprisingly powerful imho.
#centaurworld#centaurworld spoilers#im half expecting ppl to get mad at me for this one#i dont know exactly why but i feel like saying like 'i like this character and i still think what they did was unforgivable'#never go over too well with the fandom crowds#im trying to make as clear as possible that theres a lot of nuance here and that is in fact what makes it so good#but idk if thats gonna translate for everybody

Just finished Centaurworld S2! My thoughts:
Music was nice but I prefer the S1 soundtrack I think. Idk I'll probably fall in love with it when I listen to the soundtrack again.
Ohhhhh my GOD the fucking Fandom episode. Do people really ship Zulius and Glendale????????
Durpleton's backstory was really upsetting. At first I thought him adopting the Minotaur was just haha funny joke but then it's like. Jesus Christ. He wanted to prove that he could be a good, caring father and not awful like his dad.
Also Horse giving Ched a little kiss on the head....... My fucking heart
I'm SO SAD Horse didn't go look at Zulius' backstory. Really would love to know what was up with him and Splendib. Wish they got together For Real and not just like, vaguely implied they're a couple now.
C.......Ched has a crush on Zulius!???!??!?!??
The fucking birdtaur (Bayden?) that got turned into a monster is absolutely horrifying :)))))
The Nowhere King is still creepy as an elk!
Also love that the dude started an entire war and killed hundreds of thousands of people and centaurs because he was too anxious to ask out a girl. How do you fuck up that bad my guy!!!
The last episode made me cry and now my head hurts :(
Overall I SUPER enjoyed it please watch it if you like haha silly cartoons that end up being absolutely horrific and terrifying

Also to keep people’s expectations in check bc people are being overly critical- centaurworld is a fun kids show first that has absolute banger scenes second. If the overall humor of the show annoys you or you don’t like the characters don’t bother. It pays off (and I mean it) if you don’t take it too seriously tho and I thought it was extremely enjoyable. Yeah it has a cringe moment or two but if you let yourself have fun, it really doesn’t take a whole lot away. It’s a fun show! One that has an extremely interesting theme and pay off but only if you enjoy the base of the show which is it’s childish weird zany world. Reminds me a lot of early adventure time, don’t think people remember how cringe it could be at times, but yeah, same pay off.
#probably a tad over statement to say same as adventure time but it’s similar in vibes at least#loved it!#also yes there’s gay people#if that’s something your concerned about#centaurworld

Good Stuff: We Baby Bears
I came into 2022 with the highest hopes and expectations, then I saw that they changed the Cartoon Network logo and that made me mad. We Bare Bears wasn't as big a series in the online eye as the other CN shows, but I enjoyed it for what it was back when it aired and I'm glad it got to end right with the movie. But here we are in the future, and we have a prequel(?) spin-off with the trio as babies that's basically nothing like the flashback episodes the OG had. And, after seeing this new series, that is more than okay.
The New Year hype wasn't the same as Unikitty though
I will say if there's any real issue is that while it has the cute anime style, I wish it did more with it beyond kooky expressions and it feels like the opening is the most effort they'll put into this. Doesn't mean it's bad, but it's the one aspect that I'll say is unfortunately mediocre; "unfortunately" because I could definitely see them do wonders with this series visual wise.
I'm not looking for LWA level spectacle but y'know, surprise us
When you take into account though of going into this series, it does face the problem of being is what it is. Babies, BOOM! Bubbly art style, BOOM! Bright Colors, BOOM! Magical doodahs and Nipnorps, BOOM! Smartphone(?), BOOM though I wish it wasn't in this like why does a baby bear have an iphone 69?! Ir-re-ver-rent adventures, BOOM! It isn't like Centaurworld where there's clearly a dark looming twist broiling underneath. It's a simple, breezy tale of three cubs with a magic box traveling to mythical worlds for a new home. And you know what?
I call it a palette cleanser of a series
We Baby Bears gave me the nostalgia of going to my book shelf and seeing Goodnight Moon, Dr. Seuss, Harold and the Purple Crayon, Guess How Much I Love You, and yes, I am an alpha when it comes to storybooks. The simple feeling of traveling to a new world, meeting some interesting characters, and going on an adventure with your baby bros is something to appreciate as both a child and a 20-something adult. The more simplest usage of imagination should not be lost as you grow up. The trio here work like they did in the original show where you understand their kinship as well as their individual natures. I like that Demetri Martin's the narrator, offering that great deadpan charm while Baby Ice Bear's VA is doing just as well. I liked the worlds they go to even if they are basic like Veggietale world or a Ghost manor. It's not original, but it's definitely not soulless as it works perfectly as the imaginative jump from the more grounded slice of life OG series. It overall is just so cute and silly and something necessary to start the year right.
iWe all have our flails about what we want in the animation medium. The desire for more Owl House or Infinity Train, more "mature" entertainment for all ages, and I feel this show'll get thrown by the wayside because it looks like it's just for toddlers. But I welcome this series because it is fun and lovable, a show that balances out the more story heavy shows set to come out this year and those known before. This isn't for everyone, knowingly, but I wanna say this can be emblematic of a balance cartoon fans and enthusiasts should have. For me, this series helps fuel that optimism you might lose along the way.
4 out of 5. Ready for Adventure

I finished Kid Cosmic's final season! It was so good and I cried so many times lol.
I know most people like endings where everything is fine, which can often be unrealistic. But I love the ending that Kid Cosmic takes, it's sort of bitter sweet but also very impactful. Like, even if something happens to Papa G, Kid will still have his newfound family. It's sad to think about all of that, but it also sort of helps with Kid's growth. And these things happen, it's better to face them than refuse to acknowledge them. And Season 3 does a good job teaching this.
I also have to say, even though I hate to acknowledge it lol, Kid Cosmic handled it's final season way better than Centaurworld. Kid Cosmic had better pacing and ended up with a good, complete story, despite the fact that this had to be rushed. Centuarworld was wonderful, but didn't do a good job when it came to this.
That's all I had to say about that though!
How did you enjoy it? And who were your favorite characters?
I think the ending was pretty happy, it just wasn't a perfect ending where everything works out, but things still work out
Kid Cosmic is really good and it had really good pacing and ended the story pretty well, I do like Centaurworld more in general but I do wish s2 was handled better!
I really loved this season, the plot twist of episode 2 was so good and it was super interesting to see, I cried a lot in episode 5 and overall it was a great season and show
My favorite character in general is Chuck :) but he sadly doesn't get to shine much in seasons 2 and 3. My second favorite and undoubtedly the best character of the show is Jo! She's a fantastic character, her arc in s2 was great but she shines a lot in every season which is awesome. Overall the characters of this show are really good!
I'm looking forward for future shows of Craig, this one was as great as the others!

I recently watched the first season of Centaurworld, and it was a trip that objectively was well-made, but it also gave me severe mood whiplash and I’m still not fully settled on what my opinion of the series thus far is.
But for right now, I just want delve into my conflicted feelings regarding one specific aspect of episode 8, “ Ride the Whaletaur Shaman!”
(spoilers for episode 8 below the cut, plus trigger warnings related to death and the very heavy topics that go with it)
If you clicked the Read More, you’re probably assuming I’m talking about the thinly-veiled allegory for suicide in this episode. And you’d be right, but I was thrown by one specific decision that the writers made that is a bit less obvious: that the inside of the whaletaur was an environment of dreary conga lines and shuffleboard tournaments meant to evoke the stereotypical activities of retired senior citizens.
Now, I get why they didn’t have the inside of the whale be Horse literally being digested--this is an extremely heavy episode for a TV-Y7 show already and having the suicide attempt be 100% explicit would never get green-lit. But it still leaves a bad taste in my mouth that the alternative was to make the terrible fate of people who choose to enter the whaletaur shaman was, essentially, to become old.
Ageism is one of those forms of discrimination that often doesn’t get taken very seriously, especially in children’s media. There’s this underlying presumption that kids will only be interested in stories about characters who are also kids, meaning that elderly characters seldom get any meaningful focus outside of villain or mentor roles. If a younger protagonist ever magically becomes old for some reason, it’s always treated as an awful thing that must be fixed.
In real life, though, senior citizens aren’t fundamentally broken--they’re pretty much just like everyone else. They want to socialize with friends and family, they want to explore the world, they want to consume entertainment, they want to challenge themselves, and they overall just want to enjoy being alive. How they want most to experience those things may sometimes differ depending on whatever they became comfortable with in their younger years, but having different tastes does not make them worth vilifying or mocking. (Sidenote: senior citizens largely don’t like shuffleboard either, it came in dead last in a poll of the favorite activities of people in retirement homes).
This isn’t to say that there are no downsides to being old. The main one is how one’s body becomes less manageable over time--constant aches and pains, loss of mobility, increased susceptibility to illness, loss of mental capacity, etc. Often these issues will require intervention from doctors, nurses, and other carers (and almost as often those interventions will not be able to solve anything, just keep things from being even worse). When you become unable to care for yourself and the family/friends in your life are unable to make up the difference, moving into a nursing home or retirement home may be the best way for you to be able to continue living your life. When it becomes clear that you are close to dying, hospice/palliative care may be the best way to at least help make you comfortable until you pass on. The people who are faced with one or both of these choices will usually be heartbroken at the thought of “giving up,” but having the help of trained healthcare professionals can make a world of difference for the elderly and dying when they really don’t have other viable options. (I will be side-stepping the issues of neglect and abuse perpetuated by staff in assisted living facilities for the purpose of this post, but they are still important factors to address with this particular topic).
The whaletaur shaman in Centaurworld is generally considered to symbolize someone who assists others in committing suicide. Physician-assisted suicide is not the same as hospice (the former is actively ending the patient’s life and is illegal in most states and countries, the latter is allowing terminal illness to run its course without intervention and is legal everywhere), but they are similar enough to be confused for one another, especially behind the veil of symbolism.
And what symbolism have we been given to the whaletaur’s stomach? A place where the afflicted are given something to make them comfortable, participate in activities like shuffleboard with the other people there, and are allowed to eventually fade away over time. That sounds a lot more like a nursing/retirement home or hospice facility than assisted suicide. So when the whaletaur expels everyone she’s ever eaten, that isn’t her deciding to no longer perform euthanasia, that’s her closing a hospice facility under the assumption that she can now treat everyone who used to live there now that one person got better. Which...no, that is extremely irresponsible to do if you don’t have other options lined up for the people who were once under your care.
Outside of the whaletaur’s stomach, circumstances better support the assisted suicide interpretation--people only come to her for relief from depression, not because they are already dying, and the fact that she eats them to give them their “final day” implies that she chooses to actively kill them--but because the writers decided to mesh this with a retirement home aesthetic, it ends up not just condemning voluntary euthanasia on those with mental illness, it’s now also stigmatizing the elderly and de-legitimizing the work performed by palliative healthcare workers to help the dying.
This is not to say this was a bad episode. I mostly see it as (excepting for the bit about Wammawink’s creepy merman fetish) an exceptionally well-done episode that will likely help reinforce the important message to a lot of kids that if they experience depression and hopelessness, they don’t need to turn to oblivion to escape it. I just wish that they didn’t have to rely on making senior citizens seem even more inhuman than kids already think they are to get the point across.

GIRL I wanna know what you think of Centaurworld! I love your opinions!
Duuuuuude I ended up fucking loving that show more than I anticipated. I wasn't sure how I'd feel at first because of how weird it was, but I knew at least one of my friends was really into it so I wanted to give it a go. The first episode gave me some mixed feelings at first, but I kept thinking about it and the more I did the more I realized I enjoyed it and was anxious to watch more. It was a little difficult to find time since I was watching it on my own, but I managed to watch the last two episodes last night and I am SCREAMING.
Overall, while the show is really fuckin weird and unfortunately difficult to recommend in my friend circle, I'm glad I watched it. Wamawink was my favorite character and no one can tell me she and Horse aren't gay. I could have done without Ched though. His constant ragging on Horse got really tiring after a while. The Nowhere King though... oh... Oh that's my aesthetic right there. I'm in love.
And the MUSIC. I knew this show was gonna have a TON of music by looking at the soundtrack list, but I wasn't expecting so many songs to be crammed in every episode. It's like 3-4 each time but somehow each one seems to be pretty okay regardless. Some better than others obviously, but they all worked with moving the story along so I appreciated that. Kimiko Glenn did an amazing job, they all did, but wow I was SLAIN by Lea Salonga in "Nothing Good". I've been listening to it on repeat every chance I get ever since watching that finale. That song was Broadway level good as it should have been given who was performing it. "Rider's Lullaby" has me emotional every time, and of course "What If I Forget Your Face". There were so many good ones, but those are my top faves.
I really hope it gets greenlit for a second season, especially for ending like THAT like excuse me???

Hi there if you havent already I would suggest giving it another go! The nowhere king is so creepy, and the promise of season 2 (the seeds they sowed for it, idk if there WILL be a season 2) makes it feel like we're going to a darker place with more depth and lore in the world! Also, rider and horse make me Cry. It is offputtingly quirky and grating at first, but that is all part of the setup, and you get used to it
Oh gosh this is a very, VERY late response and I apologize for that (tumblr did not let me know I received an ask ;; ). But it seems this is about Centaurworld which certainly was a series I was unsure about looking at the initial trailers and the like.
You will be happy to know however, I have watched the series through twice (the second time because I had a friend watch it)! And I do find it pretty wildly charming! I’m typically not a huge fan of shows with humor that borders on ‘rAnDoM’ and I was sort of afraid that the show would be nothing but off putting and grating (as you mentioned it is at first), and just not my cup of tea, but I gave it a try anyway. And lemme tell you there are moments in the show that have me cry laughing. The show also kept me hooked with those hints of something darker, the taurnado scene especially grabbed my attention early on.
I don’t think the shows perfect, the second season had moments that dragged a bit in my opinion and some characters seemed to either get little to no development (I feel like Wammawink deserved so much more screen time in season 2). Though to be fair pacing a show’s story seems like a nightmare and a half, especially if you don’t have that guaranteed season or more to finish up. I still enjoyed the final season immensely, and frankly any complaints I have are outweighed by the pure drama of that scene of the princess and the nowhere kings final moments in the final episode. Like damn.
Overall great show! I loved it and I’m happy I gave it a chance and I’m so sorry it took me almost a full year to respond to this ask!
#Alley rambles#this ended up be slightly longer than I meant for it to be but those are my thoughts!#again thanks for the ask and sorry ^^

centaurworld is somehow on the list of things i personally really enjoyed overall but wouldn't be likely to recommend, because for every aspect i like there's also something i find genuinely uncomfortable, even if not enough to completely overshadow my enjoyment??? it's kind of a weird show even beyond the ways it's actively Trying to be weird and that is perhaps not for everyone
#i tend to like that kind of thing tho#and there are some really impactfully Artful moments that made me want to keep watching#i haven't seen season 2 yet but i want to
