a show doesn't necessarily have to be ABOUT queerness to BE a queer show. it's a cultural dialect that cishets don't quite speak.

edit: i gotta clarify that the shows do indeed still have to have actual queer characters in them to count

#our flag means death #and yeah i'll say #the owl house #not just in the fact they are stuffed to the brim with queer characters #or their stories of self-transformation into who you truly are #or even that they're about outsiders finding community amongst each other #though those things certainly factor #it's that the queerness cannot be disentangled from the story without costing complexity #luz has to be neurodivergent and queer. if she wasn't the story would be about someone else #am i making sense? is this microphone on?#a couple others of note are #killing eve #renegade nell #and star trek #which cannot be made straight despite best efforts #conversely heartstopper and first kill are not queer. but that's another essay.

Lately I've had a Steve angst AU in my head where due to his dad's bad decisions they end up with a baby at their doorstep. And Steve's dad obviously isn't going to take care of his kid so Steve ends up basically being a parent much younger than he ever planned to be. And I imagine him and Darry become very close because of it.

Also Soda and Evie are obsessed with the baby and jump at every opportunity to watch it (which Steve always takes because my poor guy is NOT sleeping)

“alright.” darrel claps his hands together, grinning and standing up. “bedtime-“

he’s interrupted by the shouts and argues of the three boys infront of him, all clambering onto eachother in an attempt to stay up a little later.

“no, cmon. if you go to bed too late- how is santa gon’ come?”

that got them, speechless and sitting back on the couch. darry rolls his eyes, already understanding that there is no santa that gets the meagre presents, no santa that shoves them haphazardly under the tree. but he isn’t about to say that, because ponyboy and sodapop are so excited to open their stockings the next morning and look for their names on all their gifts.

darrel bends down, grabbing both younger boys and swinging them over his shoulders before taking off towards each of their bedroom. darry scrambles behind them, eagerly.

once everyone is tucked in, heads resting on soft pillows that are years old, they each get a kiss on the forehead and a light punch to their arm.

“night, boys.”

unpopular opinion about mormon theology

I genuinely find the LDS interpretation of the story of Adam and Eve really compelling. As laid out in 2 Nephi 2:

I think the suggestion that God wants us to have free will and on some level within the framing of Eden we were supposed to choose the fruit is very powerful, and I also like the concept that you can't fully have joy without unhappiness or good without sin. Obviously a huge amount of theological struggle has happened over the question of the problem of evil and how God can be both all-powerful and benevolent. I think explaining that some power is left for us to make our own choices and that the universe needs some balance doesn't fully answer those questions but it's a start! I also think the last line in the passage I screenshot is just genuinely really powerful. Rare Book of Mormon W.
