😬🐴🤦🏻♀️ My Jamie is a stud 🤦🏻♀️🐴😬
Or: Après nous, le déluge [After us, the flood, this French expression is said to have been used by King Louis XV of France to Madame de Pompadour, his favourite. Brewer translates it as "When I'm dead, the deluge may come, and I couldn't care less," and "Ruin, if you like, when we're dead and gone."]
*** *** *** I hope you don't mind me going on a bit at the start. This quote from King Louis XV of France pretty much sums up my thoughts today. But let’s take a step back for a moment. 9 July, 2024: Happy 11th #castaverasary of the wonderful Sam Heughan. Starz posted an oldie but a goodie on social media, an antique video in which the Outlander stars talk about their first scene with the 'birthday boy'.
By the way, I was just wondering, when did we last see Caitríona with such long and damaged or neglected hair? I think it might have been on 8 March 2023 at The Gannet restaurant in Glasgow for the Grilled Live podcast?
Whatever. In an old recording from over a year ago (Caitríona's hair is longer than it was in Glasgow in March 2023), Caitríona shares the very first moments she spent on set with Sam. She's got this weird look on her face, and what she's saying is even weirder.
After weeks of beautiful, sunny weather during filming with Tobias, the first day of shooting with Sam was a real downpour. And it just kept on raining, a real deluge. It just didn’t stop bloody raining.
I have no idea what Caitríona wants to tell, but I'm pretty sure she doesn't want to say something nice. As if saying something kind is the worst possible thing to do.
And I just can't stand the fact that she's such a coward. And it really bothers me when she makes a public show of cutting herself off from Sam.
I think if they were just 'costars', she'd probably have more 'sympathy' and more 'heart' for him. And it made me think of an interview I saw ages ago that I never quite got. I'm thinking of the one with Sam, Caitriona and others from 13 February 2020 for Entertainment Weekly.
You know: Caitriona doesn’t picture Sam Heughan when reading the Outlander books. You know, her “Jamie” is a stud, as opposed to…
It was pretty awful, to be honest. Just look at Sam's face. He wants to get away from there. To disappear. To evaporate.
Oh my, oh my, oh my. After me, the flood.

Why isn’t there a release date, trailer or official image for Cait’s new film? It’s unusual.
Dear Unusual Anon,
The film has officially been released at the TIFF 2024 festival, which is not that unusual for a relatively small, indie production.
I found the answer to your question, dealing with a release date 'in a theatre near you' in last Friday's Guardian:
Benjamin Lee, The Guardian's movie critic, gave The Cut a 2-star review, which found C's performance remarkable - a very good omen, but confirms my thoughts on her being grossly miscast:
[Source: https://www.theguardian.com/film/article/2024/sep/06/the-cut-movie-review-orlando-bloom]
Note the 'Outlander's Caitriona Balfe'. Surely those parochial fans did not do her any favor, with their ridiculous T-shirts. If anything, it showed one more time C is still an enigma to the mainstream media, at best tethered to her Claire Fraser performance, and almost an unfair afterthought to some critics. I wish those women could understand the difference between 'fangirling' and 'turning a premiere into a circus performance'. I am not holding my breath, though - idiocy is one of the most disruptive forces in the entire Universe.
You will have a theatre release date, a trailer and all the usual goodies once they find a good distributor, Anon.
PS: Shipper Mom accidentally watched Money Monster last week, while I was at the office. She told me C was 'absolutely wonderful, but I so wished to see more of her'.

What motivated you to make Tel your canon outlander?
Oh, that's a fun story :D
Originally it was his big sister, Silver, smuggler extrodinaire and one of my OG launch day babies
(art from emedeme)
She's two years older than Tel and I've always(since making him, at least, bc he came along a year or two after she did) headcanoned they were going through the class story events at roughly the same pace. She was a little ahead for Act 1, he was in Act 2, then she was for Act 3 and the post-main story stuff. They keep in touch and are on good terms; catching up, goofing off, teasing each other mercilessly etc etc. So when Silver starts running Shadow of Revan, of course she taps in her little brother for help. There's no way Tel's a Revanite; he loves the Republic so much he left the family smuggling business to be a goody-two-shoes soldier.
Since this means they've both interacted with Marr and Satele, I had the thought it would be really funny if when Marr commed Silver about the Wild Space Expedition she snarked something about her war hero brother being a better fit for somethin' like that and gave him Tel's holofrequency before snuggling in against Corso and going tf back to sleep. (cue five years of Guilt™ when she thinks she got him killed >.>) And then I started actually thinking about it, and realized it was a) something she would do and b) very helpful for some Silver/Corso timeline things. With when I wanted them to have kids, she would have been 7 or 8 months pregnant in carbonite(yeesh) and Corso would have had an 18 month old to handle while she was MIA and while Silver is good she's not heroic, if that makes sense.
Tel is both. He's so Captain America his face claim is Chris Evans /cough And he's a really good fit for Alliance Commander(better than Silver, much as I love her, she does not do the Leading Large Forces thing). Sooo my joke thought turned into canon. Silver instead got that Dantooine farm Corso mentions in one of his romance letters, three kids, and occasionally goes on forays into Wild Space to look for her little brother bc part of her can't believe he's dead. (she finds him on one of them, and becomes an Alliance recruit. Yes, this messes up the whole Corso and Risha alliance alert, but you only get that as a smuggler, so it's fiiiiine. Risha can tag along. That way I get to reunite her with Vette and all is as it should be in the world.)
OH. Also, Elara Dorne is my favorite romance in the whole game, so I had to make her my canon one. :D
#queen in space#telcontar airen#silver riggs#i do have a couple things i wrote for silver-as-commander before i made the change#but i don't think i ever moved them here off my deviantart >.>#i played her so early you got companion convos off approval so she and corso were married before BELSAVIS#i think by the time i played tel they'd changed it to the planet-trigger version which is much better#so he and elara got a nice slow burn :3#swtor

4, 12, 23 for wema and tunu! plus some freebie questions: which of the outlanders do they play with the most? what's their relationship with dogo and kijana like? what do you think they'll grow up to be like? :3
YESSSSS THE BABIESSSSSSSS
If you could put this character in any other media, be it a book, a movie, anything, what would you put them in?
You’re giving me a hard question already? 😭/lh/nm
My first thought was Gravity Falls cuz these two definitely seem to fit the “curious kids who go on adventures in a weird land” trope. Tunu’s Dipper cuz he seems more studious and Wema’s Mabel cuz she’s more daring and bubbly. I can definitely see her bedazzling her face lmao
Headcanon I have for them:
I know you know this, Spinny, but they are the most loved and protected in the Outlands. They’ve been nothing but kind to the Outlanders and in return, they get unlimited protection. They bring out all the Outlanders’ soft spots by being themselves and no one’s gonna even come CLOSE to hurting them. That is how much they have altered everyone’s brain chemistry
A new hc off the top of my head…most hyena siblings try to fight to the death when they’re born, especially if it’s twins. Even Madoa and Jasiri were fighting when they were really young until their mother stopped them. Not Wema and Tunu, though. The first thing they did when they were born was cuddle each other
Fav pic of them:
*cuteness overload*
which of the outlanders do they play with the most?:
Easily Dogo and Kijana, but they play with Chungu and Cheezi a lot too!
Relationship with Dogo and Kijana:
Easy. They’re besties. A squad. Friends til the end. Only problem is the jackals make bad decisions, decisions that would get them into trouble. They like to bring Wema and Tunu along so they can “live life a little” but the twins are always like “Noooo, we’re gonna get in trouble! 🥺”. They’re affectionately called “goodie goodies” for that
What will they grow up to be like?:
The Outlands is gonna have its own guard and they’re gonna be in it. After years of being protected themselves, it’s time they return the favor
The twins also go off on their own to explore more of the world as well but that’s another story

SWTOR Headcanon: The fate of Leontyne Saresh
The failure of Leontyne Saresh to usurp the Outlander as Commander of the Eternal Alliance is one of the most talked about moments during "Knights of the Eternal Throne". Many if not most players thoroughly enjoy her downfall, and I've seen more than a few just "take her out" even if their characters were not particularly dark-side.
My main OC in the Halcyon Legacy is Corellan Halcyon. To those who aren't familiar, he's… a bit of a goody two-shoes. Former Jedi Knight. I literally only have two dark-side choices on my playthrough.
So killing Saresh wasn't a real option for him, tempting as it was.
But what happens to her?
In my headcanon, she is given a (very) secure prison cell on the lowest level of the Alliance base, with security measures designed by Lana Beniko and Theron Shan keeping her under lock and key.
The (current) Supreme Chancellor and (most of) the Galactic Senate want nothing to do with Saresh. And they recognize the necessity of maintaining relations with the Eternal Alliance. BUT - politically, they need to keep Saresh's old supporters in line. There are too many of them, and if the Senate didn't try to free her, at best, they would force a constitutional crisis. At worst, they could spark a violent uprising.
So once a year, the Senate of the Galactic Republic formally requests that Saresh be released, all while privately imploring the Alliance to keep her locked up.
It got to the point where - during negotiations on a formal treaty - Lana Beniko threatened her counterpart with releasing Saresh. The diplomat quickly caved to her terms.
Meanwhile, Saresh is still locked up.
Eventually, she gets a next door neighbor in Syndic Zenta, the Chiss head of House Inrokini from "A Traitor Among the Chiss".
More on that another time.

Get To Know The Writer tag game!
Tagged by @aspen-carter and @babygirlyofthevale thank you both!!
Age: dirty 30s baby!
Pen name(s): my long time gamer tag is "marthaftw", and I adopted the nicknames "Dia" and "Syn" for two characters I used to play/roleplay - but I haven't gamed or played/wrote those characters in a very long time so that's basically irrelevant.
College/university degrees: College drop out babyyyy 🤪
Favorite books growing up: The Harry Potter series.
First "grown up" book you remember reading: The Lord of the Rings trilogy first, then The Hobbit. My grandpa's books. A forever special memory 💖
Favorite novel(s): The Shining by Stephen King. Outlander book series. Also, the A Court of Thorns and Roses series.
Favorite published writers: Neil Gaiman. I've never read anything bad from this man. He's a true gem.
Favorite book(s) of poetry: Edgar Allan Poe counts, right?
Favorite children's book(s): Honestly I love the Little Bear books/show, as well as Curious George and Winnie the Pooh 🥰
Favorite movie/show adaptions: HANDS MFING DOWN The Lord of the Rings trilogy. Like, nothing will ever top it in my mind. It's perfection.
What do you listen to while you write?: I'm gonna out myself as a fucking freak with this one, but: about half the time I don't listen to anything. I enjoy silence and it doesn't happen very often around here. The other half of the time it's typically instrumental music, ambience music, or the Skyrim soundtrack. Occasionally I'll turn one of my random playlists/stations on and roll with whatever it gives me.
What do you drink while you write?: I'm a big water drinker, so normally just ice water. Or coffee! Sometimes soda.
Favorite piece you've ever written: Oh. Uhm. Hm... WELL. Literally all my writing is self indulgent so I'm gonna be a dweeb and say: go look at my masterlist. It's all there ♥
Favorite fanfiction you've read recently: There's so many insanely talented writers here I struggle to pick a favorite favorite. Please go check out my #other peoples writing tag because I share lots of goodies there!
(no pressure) Tagging: @st-eve-barnes @targaryenbrainrot @its-actually-minicika @ruby-dragon @humanpurposes @lost-and-founds @xfancyuu @exitpursuedbyavulcan and anyone else who wants to do it!

Okay uno reverse! Tell me about your BG3 oc. What thoughts do you have so far?
Her name's Aisling, she's a dwarf Ranger with the Outlander background - grew up on a farm on the edge of a small town on the edge of civilization, so she's much more comfortable out here in the wilderness than she will be heading towards Baldur's Gate.
She'd really rather solve things through talking - Persuasion is preferred, but Deception is permissible (she has proficiency in neither) - and getting potential problems to fuck off without violence. So far, she's held to doing the right thing, because no, she doesn't think that civilian refugees should be turned out onto the road to die, no she doesn't think a child should be imprisoned, fine she will go and try to find the head druid so we can stop all this bullshit at the Grove - but nothing she's run into is deeply morally complex yet, either.
The main things I'm trying to characterize her around so far is her relative leniency towards her party members than everyone else. Shadowheart's got a mysterious artifact and mysterious wound and won't talk about it, fine. Lae'zel condescends to everyone and is really dickish when trying to get information out of that tiefling at the Grove, okay, fine, I can't stop you, do your thing. Astarion holds her at knifepoint but he's still talking instead of stabbing her so he gets forgiven for that and then he tries to bite her while she's sleeping and she says yeah sure, I trust you, go ahead and drink my blood.
The thing I'm settling on is that this mind flayer situation is so profoundly - and literally - alien and horrible, with truly high stakes, that she's found herself very quickly attached to the people she's stuck in this situation left. Lae'zel knows more about mind flayers, we need her help, we need her around. Shadowheart suggested we travel together in the first place and has stuck with me, I'm not going to pry into her shit. Astarion is a large part of the reason we made it through a nasty battle in the Blighted Village, I'll forgive him trying to juice me while I slept. I picked my animal companion for Beast Master based on my companions - Shadowheart's afraid of wolves so I can't do a wolf; the dire raven can blind opponents and that gives you advantage against them, that could be good to facilitate Astarion's sneak attack--
So I think she's overwhelmed, latched immediately onto the people who are in this same boat, and while she's been a goody-two-shoes so far, the fact that she's so quickly attached to this fucked-up group of people might start taking her down strange moral roads she might not expect. We'll see! We'll find out! This is exactly why I made a totally new character - so I could pick options I thought were interesting and try to form a character to those choices, rather than coming in with someone where I feel bound to What They Would Do.
#i think gale wyll and shadowheart would be the best party comp in personality for her#- based on the small amount i've seen so far! - but. i keep handing astarion lockpicks. i need him.#roddy plays bg3
