I recently had the pleasure of finishing Outer Wilds for the first time and it is truly something I will never forget. What I would give to play this game for the first time again...

When I was thinking about what I wanted to draw for this, I thought about what hatchling must have felt when they realized the Sun station wasn’t the source of the loop, and all I could think about was just the disappointment and the despair in knowing that they would have to start all over on their theory. When I reached the Sun station I was sure it was the end of the game, but it wasn’t.. so yeah, this it’s kinda meant to be a moment of disappointment and sorrow, but the warm vibes of the sun station made it a little hard to show.

Idaea’s skeleton also just makes me so sad. Sometimes I like to just stand next to him and spend my last moments by him so he doesn’t have to be alone this time

One of the coolest things outer wilds does is it’s final act (at least in the order I played) paradigm shift that makes you realize that you��re not in the story you thought you were in. Warning for spoilers ahead, and i should make a longer post about this some time, but the realization that this isn’t a story about saving the universe, but of helping it to end? So good man

Just messing around with personal design ideas for Idaea, I guess.

I just really love the Sun Station. The weighing of the scales parody on the wall when you enter the observation deck is probably my favorite piece of imagery in the game. And the music is a fun little combination of sounding entirely weightless (in free-fall around the system's star) and incredibly suffocating (the station didn't work and never will -- there is nothing more anyone can do.) For this scribble I pulled inspiration from the myth of Icarus and the plant that's listed on Idaea's fandom[dot]com wiki page.

Inktober Day 10 - "Sun"

We've all been at that moment. That string of hope when we prepare to save everyone. Where we know, for a fact, that whatever is in the station, we can stop it. We can go home. @outer-wilds-inktober

One of my gifts in Outer Wilds is that I can almost always out-stupid your stupidest death. Feeling ashamed you forgot your suit when you left your ship? One time I got so excited to land I unbuckled mid landing and died on impact. Bummed you got sucked into the sandfall on the twins? Once I managed to fly the shuttle directly into timber hearth, trapping me inside.

Sun Station. This was one of the coolest moments in the base game (and one of the saddest). The hotshot achievement was also cool, and almost easier than the cactus tunnel lmao. This one was harder to draw, since it's more of a drawing focusing on a structure than a landscape which kind of limits my different ideas for shading, as well as reducing room for error. Still pretty happy with it, especially the sun and sky. Probably something I'll redraw once I'm better at digital art.
