This is Jean Schwartz, a New York dress finisher who has been out of a job for 18 weeks, December 27, 1937. She appeared at the Central Post Office to fill out her application for unemployment insurance, something nearly a million in the state were expected to do before the end of 1938. A staff of 4,000 was hired to handle the applications.

do you know how many people are mad that authors use "growled" as a word for "said"? it's just poetics! they do not literally mean "growled," it's just a common replacement for "said with force but in a low tone." it's normal! do you hear me!! help me i love you please let me out of here!!!

In a “billions won’t be hoarded by one person” type of way. The average salary was $960 to $1,200 a year. Passing a physical examination and demonstrating the ability to read and write were the only requirements.
