Both love and hate the absolute DELUGE of ink a fresh sharpie unleashes onto the paper the instant it makes contact…. I have complicated feelings towards the deluge lmao

I don’t remember… it might always be a deluge #until it starts to die #I use to ONLY use sharpies to draw traditionally for like the longest time. but then I got fancy pens and shit.#that dont piss out all there ink instantly #it’s kinda fun tho.. like it forces you to draw faster. and press lighter. and just. be looser w ur lines #and even when ur being loose it’s STILL making thick as hell lines. but. that’s also kinda interesting..?#idk. it’s kinda fun using them again sometimes. I feel like it’s kinda freeing. u just have to accept what the sharpie puts out #u can only control it so much. u have to let go of that urge for perfection and take what u get #I feel like currently I really struggle w. liking my sketches more than my lines. and trying to replicate all my sketchwork #into my linework… but lines are not sketches!!! so it leads to linework I don’t like either cuz it’s all scratchy and weird #i feel like. 1 I need to learn. to let some pictures just be sketches. like if I like the look of my sketch and wanna keep that loose #conceptual sorta look. to just. not line it. not try to replicate a sketch in lines #and 2! to embrace smoothness in my linework more… to accept my lines. not looking exactly like my sketch #and to not go over every single sketch stroke in ink to try and achieve that.. cuz it doesn’t work!!!!!#and.. uhhh. yeah! #took a break from trying to figure out what the hell i'm doing in my other art piece to do some character design #i love them a lot but they're definitely a little fucked up lmaoooo #based on a shaggy ink cap mushroom!#reference notes for me later:#this took like... an hour and a half? hour 45?#had a decently clear pic of them in my head when i started #general shape-wise at least (large-brim mushroom cap. tall & lanky. had the eyes down from the get)#i also knew that there was going to be a breastplate & translucent fancy robes beneath it but i had to explore those clothing shapes #also had a solid idea of the colors - base colors took like 10 minutes tops and that was less color picking #and more trying to color within the lines #pretty decent considering i usually take fucking forever with designs but i think it's cause i started with a solid idea/image of them #my art

This year my dad found & gave me the Montblac my mom misplaced in 2016 that was supposed to be my deceased grandpa’s uni graduation gift; yesterday I got to draw for the first time in 3yrs without pain & inked a Diluc with the $500 pen

I ordered normal pens right after, it’s okay to laugh and cry

I know my old man is upstairs probably cackling because he used to doodle with his fountain pens. And also I’m relieved I can still draw & didn’t lose all my skills but the numbing in my shoulder has now evolved to soreness so I’ll try to draw once a week to build those muscles up again. Tldr my dominant arm is low key fighting the urge to slide outta my arm socket because in 2019 I fell and tore my trapezius muscle next to my spine with the hold the size of my hand. Tbh I only have a functioning right arm purely out of spite & self recovery since then & only until recently don’t suffer from the debilitating pain anymore but anyways.

The way I just 💀 upon realizing the ink refills are $20 & I bought 30 pens for the same price. And like y’all don’t understand, I re-inked the drawing 3 times to build up the depth between the Five & Below $5 color pencil layers. That’s like $4-$8 in total

I knew it was expensive but I never looked into it until my dad saw what I was doing and busted out laughing because apparently he did the same mistake when he graduated law school.

My first drawing in 3 yrs accidentally turned my sketchbook into an physical asset because of the fucking pen and I gotta save up to buy the refills down the road because THE INK WAS SO NICE TO DRAW WITH *punches air* I HATE THAT IT WAS A GOOD EXPERIENCE OH FUCK ME

#mun post #When I wake up I’ll take pictures because it’s 4:30am right now #you guys can see the moment I realized on tiktok #there’s no jokes here #it’s the Meisterstück Platinum-Coated LeGrand Ballpoint Pen either in midsize or le grand I need to measure it tomorrow because it’s a full #sized pen and the difference between the 2 sizes is $25 which isn’t much but with taxes is CRAZY #OF COUSE IT WAS FUCKING #diluc ragnvindr #THAT I DREW OF C O U R S E SHIT That’s really funny #also I don’t have red color pencils apparently so I used pink and orange to mix in the red #and yes I used a glitter gel pen with the fucking $20 black ink I am SO STUPID #capitalism wins this round fellas because goddamn it’s a good fucking pen and it didn’t smear or bleed through at all and is a comfy weight #but fuuuuuuuck #also my mom misplaced the pen because she had been masking her dementia and schizophrenia since probably 2010 when I think it #so yeah shout out to my dad for never stoping to search for the pen #also it has this little case with a fancy black fabric #also fun fact if my dad never came to the us he would be a lawyer in Costa Rica #artists of tumblr

saw this fancy thing on pinterest and at first was like ooh that looks fun! and then i realised it was just a fancy holepunch and my excitement immediately went down and it basically is a thing you can use to make holes for binding books? which is still cool + accessible for people who want to do it but don't know where to get equipment. but i was like hey man i wonder how expensive it is. and its a hundred and fifty dollars. so i think i'll just buy a book actually.

#chaos whispers #ive been doing this a lot recently stopping and squinting at fancy things and asking ok but WHY is it useful #my mum showed me this cute inkless printer and it Was cute! sleek and small and immediate printing #but we Have a printer. and yeah its cumbersome and big and heavy but it works and the ink doesn't fade #goals for 2024 r largely more mindfulness + being less reliant on corporations #i've made a huge list of websites i want to check out as alternatives to am*zon etc so here's hoping that is fruitful :)!#but im happy with myself that i can look at bigger pictures now. a couple years ago i would've been amazed by the thing on pinterest
