never thought i'd hear chk chk boom be played at our school field on the speakers but we gone done it lol

#we're basically having sports week at our school and all of our days are spent at the field #and they were making the kids play musical chair AS A SPORT (😭) but we were having fun because they started playing songs on the speakers #while everyone was busy cheering me and my friends started chanting 'change the song! change the song!" LMAO #and it was so fun seeing others join haha #its not like our school didn't play kpop. its just the usual gangnam style and SOME bts songs if we're lucky #but usually its just random songs i feel like the sir was just scrolling through insta reels and chose whatever he was watching 😭😭#WE SUCESSFULLY MADE THEM PLAY APT BY ROSE #we started chanting 'A-P-T!' continuously and then EVERYBODY JOINED IN IT WAS SO FUN #and maybe he found a kpop playlist via that because then he played dynamite lol #BUT THEN one of my teachers called me aside for some discussion regarding the prep for the next days and then while shes talking to me #I HEAR CHK CHK BOOM PLAYING HDASHDASJK #my stay friends came up to me to call me but then they saw things were v serious between the teachers and all so they started smirking/groa #-ing #RAHH I MISSED IT THE FIRST TIME AND THE FOMO WAS HITTING ME HARD #but THEN after a few rounds of some desi item songs THEY PLAYED IT AGAINDHAHDA #i had a religious experience listening to chan's pre-chorus on the loud speakers. thats all ill say #we were literally rapping in gibberish and i literally fell on my knees when chan's part came up im not even embarrassed 😭😭#and it was so surprising to me to see everyones reaction because they were like oh! ur a kpop stan! oh! like i feel their whole perception #of me has changed somehow 💀 cant say if its for the better or worse loll #but all that matters was i got to experience this religious moment with my friends cuz im just a girl🙇‍♀️🎀#(also cuz it was musical chairs they stopped playing just before the chorus 😥 but that didn't stop us from screaming the whole song heheh)#stray kids #skz #personal

One time in art class in 4th grade we were given a project to make a board game, and my best friend and I came up with this wildly complicated strategy game, which we creatively named "War". The premise was you and your opponent controlled two sides of a chess-like board, and had a bunch of cards filling the function of pieces, that were things like "infantry regimen" and "tank", which you could place down during the course of the game. The two win-states were you either took out all your opponent's pieces (? i might be oversimplifying) OR you acquired The Treasure at the center of the board. However, getting to the center of the board was made difficult by a piece called "the reporter" who moved erratically every round, and who you could not hinder in their movements, because that would be a war crime.

Obviously we barely got out of the brainstorming stage because this game would have taken more than the two hours we were given, so we only managed to lay down a few rules. When the bell rang we were still busy discussing what other war crimes we could add. Anyways, I kinda wanna make this an actual board game.

#in case you want to know at that point we'd been going to go class for three years #and were our teacher's worst nightmare because we kept spicing up the ancient and respectable game of go #with a bunch of weird new rules #so yeah. no surprise we immediately thought “two-person strategy game on checkered board” when we were given the assignment

how I felt being held back in class by my english teacher, thinking she was gonna yell at me for not doing my homework (like other teachers, mostly my english ones) and then she somehow validates me without meaning to and actually speaks kindly to me?? like I'm sorry what??? I've never had a teacher actually see right through me like that? like, holy shit.. I guess I'm actually gonna like english this year >,<

also on that end though - it does always surprise me when white people completely and utterly miss mixed race coding in like books and other fiction. which i guess i shouldnt be surprised because of how bad they are with any racial coding at all really like (gestures vaguely at the hunger games rue situation for the past 15 years) but like straight up they dont see it? they don't even see...

#the rue situation was nuts and horrifically racist but also so so bizarre like okay. i read the hunger games by having my 6th grade teacher #read it to our whole class a chapter a day and even in all her mispronunciations of every character name (she said cinna like CHEE-nah)#(went italian with it i guess.... also effie as EE-fee - etc) and the fact that i was 11 i remember CLEARLY that she was discribed as #having dark skin and dark curly hair and put two and two together that she was black. like. hello. can anyone here me. its so dark in here.#but in a much less horribly antiblack and racist situation ONE TIME my (white) mom tried reading a book i really really loved in 8th grade #a victorian ish period young adult novel about a spy girl and like the main character spy also was half white and half chinese iirc #and in like the beginning theres a bit where shes getting questions about her features and for safety reasons she plays it off that she #got it from her irish mother i think. and i read that when i was 12 and saw how she was written to be nervous saying that #and put two and two together and was like oh shes mixed race cool. and then later in the book it was plot relevant and then spelled out #but when my mom read the beginning i mentioned offhandedly that oh i loved that book as a kid cause it was fun and i thought it was cool #to see a mixed race main character in a fun basic spy thriller story like this and my mom was so confused like but shes irish?#and i was like. oh. um. maybe. and waited until she finished the whole book where it was fully spelled out for her to get it LOL #like it wasnt bad or anything it was just a surprise. my mom did understand it when it was spelled out later and thought it was neat #i mean she does have mixed race children after all (meeeeee LOL) but i was like so confused. i like. forgot. that white people dont #think about this stuff that often or at all by default so they just dont see it when its in front of them.#<- mixed race guy who rediscovers the concept of the white default brand new every day

I don't want to brag or sound too optimistic about it, but after three weeks of training at a private college, I think my lessons with this one particular immigrant student (who has serious motivational problems lemme tell ya) are finally starting to get through and there's been improvement.

Only slight improvement so far but I have spotted some, so maybe not all hope is lost yet.

Remains to be seen I guess.

#personal #so in case anyone's still wondering i'm studying to become a tutor/instructor/guidance counselor etc. etc. whatever it's called in english #and currently i mostly work with immigrants with language. sometimes i help high school students as well. but mostly immigrants #and there's this one immigrant student who's been there since last spring. and he still barely even knows the basics because he's 'given up #according to him that is. he told me this at least three times yesterday and i told him that's a problem #so i've been trying to hammer it through his head that he can't be sitting in classes and using his phone when he's supposed to be learning #or expect me or teachers giving him all the answers when he also needs to show a little effort and help us back as well #and that he needs to participate in pair and group activities in classes because we're a team and we need to work together #so basically he's been asking me to either teach him or then find someone who can teach him #i told one of our teachers this and she answered that he could also participate in evening activities at the college but he's not doing tha #and according to him he doesn't 'mingle'. so i told him maybe he should once in a while. get out of his comfort zone. at least try #to my surprise he actually showed up to one of the evening activities that i hosted. didn't do much anything there but sit but still #that was effort. he did exactly what i said despite it making him a little uncomfortable so that's improvement #so then yesterday he asked me about teaching him the language again. i told him i host a homework club at tuesdays & thursdays @ 3:30-4:30p #he showed up there yesterday and was the only student. so i had time to teach him basic greetings. weekdays. months. things he shoulda know #and i thought it's all probably in vain but i tried. so today. he was in their class and actually doing pair work and reading stuff aloud #and even translating some stuff when i asked. calling it easy. and that he's trying to use his phone less and memorize this stuff instead #to which the rest clapped at and cheered him on for. and i told this to the teacher afterwards when she asked me about him. and she gave #me a thumbs up and looked a little surprised but also delighted. because he's been a popular subject amongst ourselves for a reason #so i don't want to get too optimistic about it. because he still has an attitude problem. but he's tried a little at least. so there's hope

My niece is abt to do the beep test in school and it filled me with new rage that I, a severely asthmatic kid who could end up in a life threatening situation from smelling someone’s perfume or being outside on a slightly cold day, was not only expected to take part but was shamed (along with the rest of the kids, which is fucked in and of itself) for not outperforming the able-bodied athletic kids. For doing badly at something which I had an intrinsic disadvantage in and which was actively dangerous for me. Why was I supposed to risk my life in school. Why was I shamed and punished for not being completely willing to die in PE.

#one of my teachers admitted to not knowing what asthma even was #this was an adult physical education teacher #so it’s not surprising I got treated this way #the ONLY respite was the fact my best friend at the time was also not super athletic #bc she was a bigger kid. so we got tormented together at least.#but our treatment was horrific

main thing i've noticed at college is that most people's favorite professors are always women. its women being complimented for being wonderful teachers and so knowledgeable and running good classes. i don't recall the last time someone said they willingly signed up for a man's class because he's just that good and everyone adores his classes.

#none of the men got anything on the best history prof in my school #people take her classes in droves just bc shes the one teaching and people love her it doesn't matter if you like the subject of the class #the first day of my poli sci two girls had to apologize that they didn't do the introducing ourselves assignment bc they spent the entire #time just talking about how good of a prof she was and how much they bothered loved her classes #and one of them went on this very sweet ramble about it #our prof looked so happily surprised i was like!! shes so right ur a great teacher

#interacting with people outside my bubble is so weird so WEIRD sometimes #so the other day in class i was talking to this girl and i told her i'm autistic and she looked at me surprised and said i don't LOOK it #because and i quote with autists u can tell in the face #it took a while but i finally figured out she means down syndrome not ASD #and i had to explain to her that autism and down syndrome aren't the same #while i was doing that my teacher had to butt in to let me know that the correct term is asperger's syndrome not autism #to which i then had to explain that asperger's syndrome is not the only disease on the spectrum that the term has been removed in favor of #autism spectrum disorder and that i would know that because i'm on the spectrum and hear the terms every time i'm talking to a counsellor #or therapist #this was all in the middle of german classes so we interrupted the curriculum with this entire madness and it was just an insanely #confusing experience all around #to be fair i had to let them know i'm autistic at the beginning of the term because they're grading #our participation and i have some non-verbal days every now and then so they had to know #but i really wish i didn't have to put it out there like that
