Warning for: burning alive, cults, Gore. Notes: the cult leader is evil and the antagonist of the story, the cult members are all kidnapping victims like Nora. And everything links to Fazbear Entertainment in the end.

The drawing was really fun, and I used markers for the background, as well as colouring pencils. I made a layer of orange in colouring pencil, then applied the marker to a q-tip to then apply it to the paper in order of lightest to darkest. This let me blend the colours as I went. Then, I used colouring pencil to add even more texture. Also, a little bit of red marker on a q-tip makes for a really fun way of applying blood effects.
Making the story was also very fun, and flip-flopping between flashbacks and present was fun to balance, and I think the 9 year timeskip at the end into AR really ties it all together. What makes it better is that I whacked the entire oneshot together last Friday.
Also, this fic makes "we will not be attending" make sense, and makes all my future works regarding R&D robotics also make sense, as I've been dodging thier direct contact with Fazbear Entertainment for now. But with this backstory out if the way, how the characters, especially Nora, react will make a whole lot more sense.
Because due to her history, Nora is able to smell exactly what Fazbear Entertainment has going in behind the scenes.

For such an average seeming roboticist, anyone would think that Nora had a normal life. Sure, she can be snappy at times, and use harsh words, but deep within the past of the snappy roboticist lies horrors beyond what anyone should experience.
Flames of escape is a story about Nora from the FNAF AR emails and takes place about 9 years before the events of FNAF AR.

Nora was not going to let it end this way.
As flames raged around her and lapped at her skin, she recalled how she got here.
. . .
"It's a small town alright. Land locked too," Nora said as her parents parked at the hotel they'd be staying in for the next week.
"It's quaint, and there are plenty of walks," Nora's mum, Eloise smiled.
"It'll do us some good to try something new. And besides, if we don't like it, we can always go to the seaside next week!" Nora's dad, Nils added.
. . .
Yeah. She was on holiday.
They all had no idea that this 'quaint' place held such a dark secret.
She recalled how they found out the hard way so soon.
. . .
"MOM! DAD!"
Nora screamed as her bedroom window shattered and cloaked figures dragged her out through it.
She saw Eloise and Nils rushing into her room, too late to stop the figures from dragging their daughter away. In the broad daylight of mid day.
. . .
As the flames burned her shorts and tank top, she recalled how she was dragged away to a church, surrounded by high walls.
She was offered the habit of this church by a woman who called herself the 'mother', but Nora ran away. She didn't humour them at all, as she grabbed a shovel and begun to dig her way out, attacking anyone who tried to stop her, and letting anyone who wanted out join her.
She didn't sleep. All she did was fight, and dig.
It was no wonder that after three nights of constant digging and fighting that she was overwhelmed by the 'mother'.
And that's how she wound up here. Getting burned alive at the stake.
As she felt her hair burn, she also felt the ropes that bound her snap.
Without a thought, she bolted.
"I'm not going to die here!"
She screamed as she lept from the pyre and body-checked the 'mother', the fire from Nora's body setting the woman's habit alight.
Still burning, Nora grabbed her blood and dirt stained shovel and brought it down upon the woman's head before fleeing outside to roll in the mud and put herself out.
As she pulled herself to her feet, she saw that the church was burning, and the other girls standing outside.
They were looking at her.
"What'd you want," Nora choked, her breath thick with smoke.
"To thank you." One of the girls, no older than the 23 year old Nora herself, spoke up. "Some of us have been here for years. Our families probably think we're dead by now."
"So let's get out and prove we're alive!" Nora yelled before collapsing, only holding herself up with her shovel. But she wouldn't let that stop her.
By the light of the burning church, Nora lead the dig: a tunnel under the wall, starting at this side of the wall, and going under it and its deep foundations. It only had to be enough to get under and past the wall. Anything else was unnecessary.
The church was naught but ash by the time they'd made an acceptable tunnel, and once out, the first thing Nora did after saying goodbyes was run back to the hotel.
Her parents were in thier car, everything seemed to be packed.
How long had it been?
But they saw her, and got out of the car.
"Nora?" Eloise asked, tears in her eyes.
Nora ran up to her parents as the stinging of her burn wounds finally begun to make themselves known.
She felt the wind in what remained of her tank top and felt the hem of her shorts shed ashes as she threw herself into her parents arms, sobbing until she fell asleep.
She didn't hear what her parents said, but she woke up at home. Her treatments for her burns were done off the record, out of fear of the cult that almost killed her.
Nora wanted to believe it was all a bad dream, but the burn scar that covered her back and the nightmares of burning alive persisted.
Even almost a decade down the line, now she works as a roboticist for a small robotics company, the nightmares remain.
Even now, her nightmares are not of robots, but still are of a cult in a tiny rural town.
So why now, does her mind connect the mask of the man who gave her boss a contract, one as simple and plain and generic that many have made before as "make these robots, get this pay", strike the same nerves that made up her nightmares, and bring to the surface a fear that made her back almost catch alight.
She knew that Fazbear Entertainment was shady, and that all the rumors were true.
But why
Did she look at some businessman
And know
That Fazbear Entertainment has a cult within it.
