Curtwen Week Day 6: Happy Ending

I finally finished playing Outer Wilds and I'm like,, this game has completely crushed me

#i love this game so so much #i saw someone play it when it first came out but stopped watching half way through bc i wanted to play it myself #and then i put it off for a few years saving it for a bad day #and then after everything that happened earlier this year i was like fuck it #started playing #i feel like ive changed as a person just playing it #imma take a short break before playing the dlc #i need something less smart lol #but god was this game just amazing #its beautiful and so well crafted #the characters are so fun ever if 90% of them are all through writing #everything is so rewarding once you figure things out and connect clues and information #figuring out what happened to the nomai made me cry for like half an hour alone /pos #and the ending #ough #outer wilds #mine.mebs #why is there more text in my tags than in the actual post

decided to play the heirs of fate dlc this weekend (ive been meaning to for awhile; admittedly my knowledge of it all comes from browsing the wiki, and i really wanted to experience the anankos characterization for myself). this isn't even the part i was excited to get to BUT I AM REELING OVER IT..........FOR REASONS I WILL DISCLOSE IN THE TAGS (from part iv: light's sacrifice)

#during shigure's explanation about why there's gaps in the kids' memories my brain IMMEDIATELY flipped to krad's post about whether --#gunter actually remembers how much he loved his family/is the revenge really for them or is it more so for his own satisfaction --#and like. OH MY GOD. IS IT NOT SO UTTERLY CRUEL THAT PERHAPS THE TRANSITION OF HIS REVENGE BEING FOR THEM ---> BEING SO FOR HIM WAS IN --#FACT BY ANANKOS' DESIGN ALL ALONG RATHER THAN JUST AN UNFORTUNATE SIDE EFFECT OF THE POSSESSION..........#gunter honey you may have been more under his thrall than you realized #this would totally align with how he's only able to tell corrin about his family once he's free from the possession. cuz anankos is no --#longer deliberately stealing his memories to make him more willing to act on his behalf.......ough........#of course i still think gunter purposefully indulged in that power from anankos.......latching onto it as an opportunity to exact his --#revenge without really being aware of all the consequences that would coincidence along with that #and of course this is just a lil tidbit for my own self insert lore but if anankos stealing memories is a thing he purposefully does to --#make his victims more malleable that would explain why he would not remember his time in askr or leigh upon returning to the world of --#revelation :''''') and perhaps it would slowly come back to him post game #teehee. having many thoughts. brain exploding. typical behaviour.#once again fates storytelling is fucking exceptional like is it not brilliant that the degenerating dragon who has lived among his people -#far longer than one likely should. and has been scorn by those ppl he so loved as now their memories of him are only full of fear and --#hatred. ends up stealing people's memories to make them more useful in his plan to destroy the world. much like how his own memories have -#been lost to time. and he is a victim to time just like anybody else. reading dgm vol 4 and since meeting allen lavi doesn't leave his side practically once until allen finds a moment to speak alone with lenalee and I'm having so many feelings about that all over again that I needed to stop my reread mid volume to write this post god I LOVE them

#despite all the new laven lore we have i feel like I wont piont out nor say anything I haven't already been saying for the past 16 years but #if you compare it to how both kanda and lena leave allen alone most of the time in their respective volumes #how kanda goes out of his way to avoid allen and lena suggests over and over that they split to investigate #the fact that lavi meets allen and doesn't stop looking at him once since is #ouughhhh my loves #god the moment he meets him he goes out of his way to protect him #he knows allen doesn't have his eye and he protects him worries about him shields him #he met him half an hour prior!!!#and when allen is left behind in krorys city it's lavi that notices his absence too....#oughhhh forever emotional about these things I've been crying about this for forever #and I'm still not tired of it!!#that soft smile lavi gives allen in lena's room when he's talking about bookman #ough ough ough #and also how he brings out allen's real personality so easily since the start 😭#nyeh they'll never leave me sane it's just not something that's possible #they're the shape of my heart fr fr

Imagine knowing someone for years and years and then realizing that they were on the brink of starvation the whole time

im not exaggerating when i say i think about this LITERALLY all the time. its just so harrowing. regardless of what any given person thinks about the situation, its just so objectively scary-- to know someone and be good friends with them for so long, and then learn they were actively dying in front of you the entire time you knew them.... thats terrifying.

And its gonna be something that pretty much universally gives every hermit at least a momentary pause. When they finally see a Grian who isnt starving, who has actual energy, who isn't conserving as much as he can because of the food scarcity, that's gonna hit like a hammer. It's going to REALLY highlight just how bad he was doing in comparison to now, and that's going to retroactively scare a lot of people i think
