We’re back in Belgium; France was nice, but how could I complain coming home to (o.a.) this just lovely Cuvée Saint-Gilloise, a Cantillon lambic ripened for two years on oak barrels and then dry-hopped. So why the Nike sandals in the photo? Well, after 8 wonderful years together they literally fell off my feet as I was walking about the Ardèche. I’m still contemplating a duct tape repair... There’s a Flemish expression “kiezen is verliezen”, choosing is losing... this weekend at BXLBeerFest I made a choice to for once not focus on Belgian beers, and I’ve already kicked myself multiple times in the butt for these missed opportunities, but then again the Belgian beer scene has gotten so rich these last few years I know (rationally) it’s impossible to taste everything. ... Anyway, it’s Monday evening and time to pull something older out of the cellar, so why not my first Cantillon this last week, in this case a Cuvée Saint-Gilloise bottled in 2011, a lovely dry-hopped 2 year old lambic, ... but not near as lovely and fresh as the latest release.
