OTTO FRANK
12 May 1889 – 19 August 1980
ANNE FRANK’S FATHER
Otto Frank was a German businessman who was married to Edith and was the father of Margot and Anne Frank. He served in the German Army in World War I.
When the Nazis gained power in Germany, Otto moved to Amsterdam to work in a company that sold spices. The Nazis forced him to give up his business in 1940 and he handed it over to non-Jews. He attempted to get visas for his family to immigrate to the US or Cuba but was unsuccessful. Frank, 53, hid his family in an attic in July 1942 in a hidden apartment above his business; they were joined by four others. Frank’s colleagues help them whilst in hiding; the family were in hiding for two years until they were discovered in August 1944. It is unknown who dobbed the group in to the SS.
The group were imprisoned in Amsterdam and was then sent to Westerbork and then to Auschwitz. In Auschwitz, Frank was separated from his wife and children and never got to see them again. He was sent to the men’s barracks and was in the sick barracks when the Soviet troops liberated the camp in 1945.
He wrote to his mother who had fled to Switzerland, and returned to the Netherlands to find his family and friends. Frank learned he was the only survivor of those who hid in the attic. Edith died of starvation and disease in Auschwitz in 1945. His daughters were transferred from Auschwitz to Bergen-Belsen concentration camp and died in 1944 from typhus. One of the helpers found Anne Frank’s diary and papers and gave them to Frank and her diary was published in 1946 (English in 1952) which became a movie.
Frank remarried in 1953 and moved to Amsterdam and then to Switzerland. To preserve the attic and building that they hid in, Frank established the Anne Frank Foundation in 1957 which opened to the public as a museum in 1960. Frank died aged 91, in 1980 of lung cancer.

Step into the world of wisdom and courage, where optimism blooms amidst the darkest corners of despair. Anne Frank Quotes transport us through time, revealing a young girl's remarkable resilience in the face of adversity. With ink-stained fingers dancing across pages that would later be hailed as testaments to hope, Anne whispered her thoughts onto paper with fierce determination. #Annefrank #OttoFrank #DiaryofaYoungGirl #Writer #Diary

A personal heroine since childhood. My mother ensured we read biographies about her as children (though I have never yet read her entire diary). The tragedy of the entire Frank family was seared on my memory from youth and raised me with a consciousness against anti-Jewish hatred and totalitarianism. We should continue to remember Anne Frank and family, as well as the truly heroic Miep Gies, on what would have been her 90th birthday.
May her memory be a blessing.

I’ve first read Anne Frank’s diary years ago right in my teenage years at my grand mom’s and found it a bit tedious to read. May be that was my fascination with Harry Potter, who didn’t give a chance to anything except for his own story. Ugh Though this summer we’ve been to Amsterdam , what obviously led me back to Anne’s personality. So now I have to admit ,the way she wrote her diary was definitely the sign of her marvelous writing talent . Such an accuracy of conveying the mood of WWll occupation all through the eyes of a child. In case you haven’t read it yet : it’s a real diary of a Jewish teenage girl , who had to hide from nazis with her family in the Annex more than 2 years without ever going outside . Its pages full of loving ,anger, rumors , deadly fear and also plenty of adorable figments of imagination . Have to read it to know this beautiful person closer with all of her traits wether nice or not. I decided to make a portrait of her when got a beautiful composition idea from @ectomorphe_ : timid light through the closed window was exactly what needed for the posture and her story . . . . . . . #annafrank #amsterdam #annefrank #art #cgart #instart #illustration #ectodtiys #drawing #cgportrait #childrenillustrator #ww2history #ottofrank #thesecretannex #secretannex (à Anne Frank House) https://www.instagram.com/p/B11lVAHjNqn/?igshid=ml95u8f77bkp

#onthisday in 1947, ‘The Diary of a Young Girl’ (better known as ‘The Diary of Anne Frank’ is published. This is a book of the writings from the diary kept by Anne Frank while she was in hiding for two years with her family during the Nazi occupation of the Netherlands. Anne received a blank diary as one of her presents on 12 June 1942, her 13th birthday. She began to write in it two days later. On 5 July 1942, Anne's older sister Margot received an official summons to report to a Nazi work camp in Germany, and on 6 July, Margot and Anne went into hiding with their parents Otto and Edith. They were later joined by Hermann van Pels, Otto's business partner, including his wife Auguste and their teenage son Peter. Their hiding place was in the sealed-off upper rooms of the annex at the back of Otto's company building in Amsterdam. In August 1944, they were discovered and deported to Nazi concentration camps. They were long thought to have been betrayed, although there are indications that their discovery may have been accidental, that the police raid had actually targeted "ration fraud". Of the eight people, only Otto Frank survived the war. Anne was 15 years old when she died in Bergen-Belsen. The exact date of her death is unknown, and has long been believed to be in late February or early March, a few weeks before the prisoners were liberated by British troops on 15 April 1945. The manuscript, written on loose sheets of paper, was found strewn on the floor of the hiding place by Miep Gies and Bep Voskuijl after the family's arrest, but before their rooms were ransacked by the Dutch police and the Gestapo. They were kept safe, and given to Otto Frank after the war, with the original notes, when Anne's death was confirmed in the spring of 1945. On the encouragement of friends and relatives in Switzerland, Otto Frank agreed to have it sent off for publication. . . #annefrank #diary #secondworldwar #holocaust #amsterdam #ottofrank #frankfamily #dutch #netherlands #history #onthisday #onthisdayinhistory #inspiring #writer (at Amsterdam, Netherlands) https://www.instagram.com/p/CBzz0G3HEro/?igshid=13myhhlkjgex

Beijos e boa terça a todos 😘❤📚 #ODiárioDeAnneFrank #AnneFrank #Diário #Holocausto #Guerra #SegundaGuerraMundial #AnexoSecreto #OttoFrank #Bookaholic #Bookstagram #Bookworm #InstagramLiterario (em Vila Velha, Brazil) https://www.instagram.com/p/Bn3zYZ8nuiw/?utm_source=ig_tumblr_share&igshid=hfl5zkrrces5

Leitura Finalizada . Nota: 5=✨+❤️ . . Todas as crianças têm direito em qualquer lugar do mundo. . . . Todos precisam ler esse livro 📚 . #livro #odiariodeannefrank #ottofrank #hope #livrosemaislivros #tardeboa #romance #livrosdobrasil #depressao (em Centralidade do Kilamba)
