Tagged by @lurkingshan and @stuffnonsenseandotherthings to dig into the vault. Friends, I have been Perpetually Online since 1995, when that meant I had to haunt my school library computer at lunchtime, so this is going to be for the fellow Olds. Sorry in advance for the HP mentions.

1. What ship were you completely obsessed with when you were a teenager, but now you don't care anymore?

Have I let any ships go? Hmm. I'll go with Mulder/Scully from X-Files. Watching now, they should definitely not end up together lol

2. Which ship would you consider your first one?

Sailor Mercury/Sailor Jupiter from Pretty Soldier Sailor Moon. I. Was. Obsessed. This ship hit me like a ton of bricks in I want to say 6th or 7th grade.

I watched the show as it aired with English dubs, found out the episodes we got were censored, immediately fell into my completionist ways, went to the Asian mall (it was literally pan-Asian with stuff from Japan, China, Taiwain, Korea, etc.) and got definitely not official VCDs with Mandarin subtitles, and would sit with friends who spoke Mandarin and had them translate the subs to English for me (I say this like I forced them, but they offered because they were my friends and they also felt passionately about people seeing the uncensored show). I then learned how to Internet and would trawl for fanpages of the manga (it would take 20 minutes to load an image at the time, so rather than full scanlations I'd get walls of text describing what happened with maybe a single panel illustration). Uranus and Neptune were fantastic, but I already had Ami and Makoto aka Mercury and Jupiter long before I got to the Uranus/Neptune episodes (or the Sailor Stars manga arc).

3. Your first fanfic belonged to which couple?

Definitely Sailor Moon fanfic was the first fic I read. It was an easy step from finding fan summaries of the chapters not yet out in English > finding fan sites with fanfic on them, back before we had archives or even decent search engines and you had to just find the sites you needed through links from other sites. It was like a whole new world of possibilities opening up. The first real fanfic community I was in was Harry Potter.

In terms of first fic I wrote, I am not a writer; I've only ever written a small handful of not worth mentioning ficlets featuring the Kirk/Spock ship (Star Trek TOS).

4. Do you remember the first couple you saw a fanart over?

Oh it was likely Serena/Tuxedo Mask from Sailor Moon and it was in person, because I had friends who got me into anime and manga early and they were artists who drew a lot of fanart.

5. Did you ever get into ship discourse?

Friends, I had a Livejournal. It was impossible not to get into ship discourse.

6. Did you used to have any no-otp or have it currently?

I am going to echo @stuffnonsenseandotherthings and @lurkingshan and say I was dead-set against Hermione as a ship with any of the men in Harry Potter (Hermione/Luna or Hermione/Ginny, though, we could talk), and I also really disliked Draco/Ron. I also am not here for Spock/McCoy (Star Trek), and I don't really enjoy Stucky (as in Captain America/Winter Soldier or Steve Rogers/Bucky Barnes from Marvel).

OH and can I be a hater on main for a second? The first couple that I remember hating as a thing was probably Jo and Professor Bhaer from Little Women; I was SO MAD they married in the end. I felt very validated years later when I read that the author Lousia May Alcott was forced by her publisher to marry Jo off and made up the couple out of spite.

7. Who were the couple in the last fanfic you read?

The last fic I read was a Word of Honour modern AU pairing Wen Ke Xing/Zhou Zishu in which they rescued stray kittens.

SInce I started this, I've also read a One Piece Luffy/Zoro fic (and that's not even my favourite ship--I've been a Zoro/Sanji girlie since the early 2000s! I'm weak for banter.)

8. Currently, do you have any OTPs?

I have so many. SO many. Truly. I don't even know where to start with this question! I follow several AO3 tags and fanfic writers that I get regular fic updates from. Most of my OTPs are either canon (from queer/BL/GL media) or the most popular ship (I feel very lucky that my taste is so basic). There is no one couple I love the most. Just going to throw a dart at the board: From BL, the one I come back to a lot is Hira/Kiyoi in Utsukushii Kare, because their dynamic is so intense.

9. Is there any couple that, to this day, you are extremely mad about not getting together?

Hmm. That's what fandom is for, so not really? I usually get more annoyed when people do get together that I wish had stayed platonic (never forgiving Pacific Rim for that kiss, it was so unnecessary). And I'm extremely mad about censorship, i.e. couples that DID get together but we didn't get to see it for whatever reason (see e.g. Uranus and Neptune from Sailor Moon Sailor Stars; Chinese danmei novel live-action adaptations). Otherwise there are lots of these but I just read the fanfic and recover. I'll say I'm still annoyed Buffy didn't get to have with Faith what she had with Spike though. Their chemistry was off the charts.

10. Is there any ship you used to dislike but now you think they are kind of interesting?

This is such a hard question. I came around a little on Lan Xichen/Jiang Cheng from MDZS/the Untamed, though it's still not my fave (it's a soft no not a hard no). I'll also give you an oldie: Andie McPhee and Pacey from Dawson's Creek. I hated Andie's character back in the day but now I like her character but really dislike how she was used in the show, which isn't the same thing. And I actually really liked how she and Pacey worked together.

I'll also give you a BL one: Kurosawa and Haruta in Ossan's Love. Ossan's Love s1 & 3 it was clear they were not OTP so that's a bit irrelevant anyway, but it's much less clear in s2 (the AU season) and the first time I watched it I wasn't sure how I felt about the way that season ended as much as I loved the season as a whole. I like it more every time I rewatch.

11. Do you have any ship that, in the past, was considered normal but now you would be cancelled over?

LOL I am with everyone else on the Brian/Justin train but since that's been said twice I'll go with something else. I was a big Harry/Draco shipper back in the day, which would now probably get me cancelled for shipping someone with his bully (though a significant part of the fun of that ship was about how Draco was such an ineffectual bully...but I digress), in addition to of course how the author's transphobia ruined the whole thing for all of us (fanfic doesn't make her any money, so I don't have a problem continuing to read it in theory, but it's left a sour note over my experience and makes any engagement in that fandom less fun).

12. What was your favorite crack ship?

I was one of those foolish people obsessed with Hawkeye/Coulson before we'd even seen them face-to-face or knew almost anything about MCU Clint Barton. I still read fanfic of that ship even though it's been fully jossed and makes no sense at all anymore. Ok one more, I really love the very small Breakfast Club fandom shipping Brian/John and Claire/Allison. I've read the few fics on AO3 for the queer pair ghost ships in that show multiple times.

13. Who is the couple you read more fanfics of?

Of all time, I've probably read the most Kirk/Spock fanfic. But that's due to the length of time I've been into the ship, the amount of time it's existed, and its popularity. I still read Kirk/Spock regularly.

14. What most of your ships usually have in common?

Honestly most can be boiled down to grumpy/sunshine pairs in which both are very competent in specific ways and both are hiding crippling self esteem issues behind their grumpy or sunshine-ness, and have strong but differing moral codes that they each respect in one another (and is usually where the feelings start). Banter is a must. I am admittedly also here for height difference in my ships. Double-plus bonus for terrible communicators who learn to understand one another's particular communication quirks.

Perfect encapsulation of this dynamic is Danny/Steve from Hawaii Five-0 (listen that show was copaganda trash but the fanfic was fun as hell).

15. What do you absolutely hate in a ship?

Power dynamics that remain unaddressed as part of the story. Hate to love that isn't earned over time. When the relationship makes each other worse rather than better. When they never learn to trust one another. When one of them is in it as part of a savior complex and that doesn't get challenged or worked through. When only one of them has a personality. There's very little that I'd say is a hard no in terms of dynamics or setup for me, but it has to be handled well, and sometimes I don't have the energy to give something the benefit of the doubt.

Getting someone into Snarry could not make me prouder, but getting people curious about astrology sure comes close!! AND you included not only the outer planets, but the HOUSES???? What a gem you are!

I will do a rundown of all the planets with their associated houses (per element) and I'll include the minor houses I usually give, if I feel like they're strong enough. And because the Houses have a loose association with the elements, I'll also list those out, too. Then we'll pick it apart and explore bits and pieces!

Now I always prioritize the inner planets. Jupiter and Saturn are more moderate, or intermediary planets. Not as personal as the inner planets, but not quite as generational as the outer planets. Uranus, Neptune, and Pluto are farther from the sun, and considered generational because they represent more of our generation and how society and the world changes and impacts how each generation grows up. So less personal. Still important in their own ways, but not areas I look at without reason.

But let's sort of tally up what the outer planets look like between the signs and houses.

5 points for Gryffindor, 3 points for Ravenclaw, 1 point for Slytherin, 1 point for Hufflepuff.

From here (for reasons) I'm going to work a bit backwards through the outermost inner planet up to our topmost luminary.

Mars: planet of aggression, action, and drive. In Capricorn, the cardinal (forward moving) earth sign (stability, security.) Capricorn is the Goat (or: the GOAT) and is ruled by Saturn. Capricorn is all about ambition, success, responsibility, etc. So they are driven (Mars) by ambition, and a need to succeed. They are driven (Mars) by the need for security and stability (earth.) And they take action in very Capricorn ways. Very putting in the work (earth), very practical, very determined. Very letter of the law, in a way, ruled as it is by Saturn. Very about doing things right, and also just getting them done. Capricorn wants RESULTS. Hufflepuff for how hard it works. In Mars the more Slytherin nature pops out, too. But Capricorn is so extremely ambitious, and put in the specific realm of Mars...I think Slytherin nudges out the Hufflpuff a bit. Slytherpuff, perhaps?

Mars is also in the 4th House, which represents roots, home, and family. So a lot of that action and drive is focused there. On building a family, having a nice home, being safe and stable and having a reliable place to return to. And while the watery nature of the fourth house is rooted in emotion and the connection to family and history, I'll overall give the win to earthy comfort, toil, and HUFFLEPUFF.

Next we see Venus (also the chart ruler, so gets a boost), which is the planet of love, relationships (romantic and/or platonic), and pleasure (hobbies, interests.) Venus is in Aquarius, the fixed (stubborn) air sign (intellect, sociability.) Aquarius is very rebellious, unique, independent, individual, and humanitarian. Likely drawn to unique, interesting people; especially those very loud and proud of who they are. Drawn to interesting subjects and hobbies. Very inclined towards innovation and progressiveness. In Venus this feels a bit more crafty and artistic, so probably likes trying new methods of doing things. New/different art styles, new spices in their cooking, etc. Probably enjoys a more odd/quirky humor and/or aesthetic.

This feels further supported by Venus in the Fifth House: House of Creation. The fifth house represents procreation and children, art and culture. It is also called the House of Pleasure. So, yeah, that sort of pleasure. But also self-satisfaction. Play and fun. Whatever feels good, really! So you have the planet of pleasure in the house of pleasure! And in a sign that is often called the oddball. So this really does feel like taking a more progressive, experimental, and unique approach to fun and games, romance and relationships, sex and pleasure, and even arts and crafts. Still pretty Ravenclaw, but leaning very heavily on the creative end of the Ravenclaw spectrum. With a tinge of Gryffindor spice in there.

Let's stay in the realm of air and jump to Libra Rising & Moon! Libra Moon in the first house which, similarly to the Rising sign, is about the Self. Similar veins of being who we are and how we present ourselves and how we go about the world. With moon in the first house, we're seeing more of an emotional, sensitive, even moody person. But there is also this ability to express oneself and one's emotions.

Libra is the cardinal (forward moving) air sign (intellect, sociability.) Libra is the Scales (balance) and is ruled by Venus (harmony.) Libras value peace, fairness, and justice. Libra is also very about seeing both sides. (Being fair, per the Scales, and very knowing, per air.) Libra Rising gives a sense of charm, yes, but also a peacekeeper, the diplomat, and at worst the devil's advocate. And Libra moon seeks inner harmony (moon being emotions and subconscious.) Very desirous of calmness, being settled, a balanced and harmonious environment.

Very Ravenclaw, yes, but also pretty strongly Hufflepuff, imo, for that sense of acceptance and fairness and friendliness.

Lastly, we see Pisces in the Sixth House, covering Mercury (planet of information) and the sun (planet of the core and ego.)

The Sixth House is the House of Health and Wellness, Routine, and Odd Jobs. Also the House of Service. So it's very...taking care of oneself (especially with the sun), taking care of others, taking care of one's environment. Keeping things neat and tidy, keeping the self healthy and safe. In the sun, this gives a sense of caution (health and safety), also a good work ethic (routine, odd jobs, wellness.) A focus on self-improvement, self-care...health in both the physical sense, but also the mental sense. Mercury in the sixth house gives a sense of problem-solving...using one's intellect and communication skills to settle disputes, or attend to disruptions. The ability to use one's mind and connections to right what goes wrong.

Both planets are also in Pisces, the mutable (changeable, adaptable) water sign (emotion, intuition.) Pisces is the Fish and is ruled modernly by Neptune (dreams) and traditionally by Jupiter (expansion, excess.) Pisces is very emotional and attuned to the feelings of others (empathy) and the spiritual world (transcendence.) This gives a sense of being very emotionally and mentally overwhelmed, which leads to a sense of escapism, particularly with fantasies and daydreams. The emotional side of Pisces lends well to compassion, but also can lead to the path of obsession and addiction (again, that sense of escapism.) They also can be quite creative and artistic, a better avenue for processing and expressing emotion.

Pisces gives a sense of having their head in the clouds, but also this sense of otherworldly wisdom that people might take for granted. In the sun, this makes for a very intuitive and empathetic individual. In Mercury this lends a very...distracted sense, and also an indirect way of communicating. Not by intent, so much as...being in an almost other realm to others. Perhaps a bit creative, imaginative with how they portray themselves. This also lends a more creative, curious way of learning and thinking about things. Not a direct, logical path but an intuitive, emotional one. They have an easier time when there's an emotional connection to subjects, or if subjects are presented in a creative way.

Very Slytherin in the way of self-preservation (emotional, escapism), and resourcefulness (creative and adaptable), and even quite clever (in their own, head in the clouds way.) But there is also a Ravenclaw sense to that creativity and wisdom. Being in the sixth house sort of sets this in a more grounded place, but the expression is still quite Piscean. So perhaps, creating quite crafty and individual ways of performing tasks. Self-care by means of art, music, etc. Daydreaming to soothe the self. The sixth house realm of routine plus the Piscean changeability gives a sense of "organized chaos" to both the self, how one learns, and how one interacts with others. This sort of gives me the feel of leaning more Ravenclaw? Or more evenly a Slytherclaw?

So let's go back through:

Because Gryffindor had the most points of the outer planets, I'll give Gryffindor a major point for all the outer planets as a collective.

But let's break it up a bit. Mars, Moon, & Rising all have a bit of Puff, but let's give the Major points to Slytherin (for Mars) and Ravenclaw (for Rising & Moon.) Then the Sun and Mercury we'll call it...Hmmm. I think with the sun, Slytherin takes the lead, and with Mercury Ravenclaw edges into the win.

Reading the concept of a magical girls grown up and having to do magical girl stuff again, like in their 30s, made me think of Sailor Moon and wondering what all of them would be up to if that were the case with them. Having to fight some evil that reemerged, which in my mind would totally be Queen Beryl because she was really the only decent bad guy they fought, so in my mind this is where they would be when powers reemerge:

when that happens Sailor Moon is a stay at home mom with two kids from Momo, probably a little round but no one comments on it because who cares, weight isn’t important.

Rei is recently divorced, or seperated, but will get back with her husband before the end. She has a temper and neither of them really wanted to get divorced it was just one of those situations where they both thought it was what the other one wanted and so they did it, it had just come up at one heated moment and all they really need is some counseling. Rei also runs the shrine after her grandfather’s passing.

Mina is a pop star and has a boy in every town.

Ami is widowed for a few years and her and Mako have been living together because Mako has been single for awhile, had off and on again boyfriends for awhile. With her and Ami being roommates together has sparked up something they felt when they were teenagers but never acted on but now that they are older and spark is there again they are considering acting on it.

Of course Chibi Usa would make an appearance because she’s the only thing that made the future seasons good IMO. And her and Saturn would totally be girlfriends. Maybe seeing them together Ami and Mako would finally be able to admit their feelings  for each other and realize its ridiculous they waited as long as they did to admit their feelings for each other.

I've been thinking about this all day ...

The hyper masculine energy of the Bad Batch meets the hyper feminine energy of the Sailor Scouts. And the pairings are just *chef's kiss*

Let's start with the obvious ...

Tech x Ami/Sailor Mercury. Ok, yes, they're both smart. But they really do complement one another. Tech finds confidence in his intelligence, where Ami is a bit self-conscious of it. She likes using it to help her friends, but her intellect and more nerdy pursuits often isolated her from her peers when she was young. To meet someone who finds her intellect attractive? Oh, that would do things for her. Also to see Tech isn't just smart, but as capable as his brothers in action? That would inspire her in her own position among the Scouts.

As for Tech, can you imagine the first time Ami corrects him? Like, he'll be going on, talking about the dense technical aspects of his upgrade to the Marauder when Ami - politely and gently - interrupts with a correction or more useful modification. He's used to being interrupted - his brothers cut him off to shut him up all the time.

But now? He's being corrected by this gorgeous, sweet girl not to shut him up but to help him? And she's right (of course she is). Tech's brain goes into 404 Error, Page Not Found so fast. And he's smart enough to realize Ami would never be the one to make the first move, meaning he'll have to. He'll have to mature emotionally to be with her, and he finds himself actually wanting to.

Wrecker x Makoto/Sailor Jupiter. Both are precious bbys that deserve love. All the love. This is my crack OTP.

Mako is super conscious of her position as "the strong one". She hates that she's not small and dainty and feminine. That's part of the reason she picks up hobbies that are traditionally feminine - cooking and botany. She wants to be a cute housewife, but she's also incapable of standing by when others need help, and she's got the physical power to do so. But with Wrecker, she would feel dainty and small. And Wrecker isn't shy with the compliments, calling her "meshla" and "little one" all the time, casually. Which she deserves after her shitty senpai.

Wrecker would be so floored (read: turned on to the max) by a girl who can put him on his ass. And Mako could. But she'd be so joyful while sparring, keeping up with Wrecker's own humor. AND THEN SHE'D FEED HIM? With homemade treats!? Fandom already headcannons that Wrecker finds a woman cooking for him the sexiest thing he's ever seen. That woman also being pretty and strong? Oh, he's done for.

Echo x Rei/Sailor Mars. Sass. Wit. Verbal sparring. Neither of these two has thin skin, and oh shit would they be the snarkiest couple ever. The quips. The one-liners. I cannot.

They're also both sticklers for the way things are supposed to be. Echo literally memorized the regs. Rei's adherence to tradition and her position as a shrine maiden are core to her identity. They appreciate boundaries and rules and are both the mature ones of their groups.

But more than that, Rei is always been able to see beyond what's right in front of her. She would see Echo for who he is, all of him. More than just a number, and definitely more than the sum of his parts.

And Echo? We all headcannon he'd be a serious and devoted partner, the kind to worship his love. I can see Rei pulling him out of his shell with her wit and maturity and he wouldn't even realize his defenses fell until his feelings hit him like a truck. And he'd spend every second making Rei feel as accepted and loved as she makes him feel. He'd put her on a pedestal and worship her. Considering her abandonment issues, that worship-like adoration would hit her right at her core, giving her validation she long believed she no longer needed.

Hunter x Minako/Sailor Venus. The leaders. At first, it may seem their personalities don't mesh. Minako is after all very childish at points, something that could annoy Hunter.

But she's also incredibly selfless. She faked her own death to let her true love find happiness with her mentor figure. She is literally forged by her sacrifices because she refuses to let others suffer when she can take that on herself. She's childish to combat the darkness she knows will always linger in the corners of existence. She's determined to be the light that washes it away. For her, a true partner, one who will stand silently by her side while she does, supporting her, is all she really wants.

And I think Hunter would see that. As the leader, he understands that altruism - he's shown it himself many times. He doesn't understand how she can smile so brightly when she's been through so much, hurt so much, most of it carried on her own. It impresses him in a way he can't really understand. And how in the world can he ignore how his heart races to see Minako hyping Omega up, inspiring her to rise to any challenge ... even if the challenges were created by their own hijinks.

Sidenote: I 100% see Omega being drawn to the hyper feminine Minako, sitting at her knee learning all the girlie secrets we failed at as preteens. They'd have a whole at-home spa day, complete with like Tiger Beat magazines and chick-flicks like 13 Going on 30. And then Omega mentions off hand how cool it would be if Minako was with Hunter, because then they could have those girls nights all the time and she sees Minako's blush and she starts thinking of plans to help her awkward older brother and the Scout of love and beauty get over their mutual self-sacrificing tendencies to just kiss already.

Ship Meme: Senshi/Shittenou

Since people seemed to like my DabiHawks ship post, I thought I’d write some more! So for my second post, I’m going to do a throwback to baby’s first big OTP, Senshi/Shittenou from Sailor Moon!

Are we cheating by just lumping all four pairings together in one post, shhhhhhh.

The Inner Senshi:

The inner sailor senshi, loyal protectors and closest friends of their princess Sailor Moon, Sailor Venus/Minako Aino, guardian of love and beauty, Sailor Mercury/Ami Mizuno, guardian of water and knowledge, Sailor Mars/Rei Hino, guardian of flame and passion, and Sailor Jupiter/Makoto Kino, guardian of thunder and courage.

My favorite is probably Mercury, because I’ve always got a soft spot for smart, quiet bookworms, but I really am fond of all the sailor senshi. Venus, bubbly and sociable, with a core of steel underneath it all, Mars, aloof but with a fire burning in her, and Jupiter, tomboyish but also with the most traditionally girly pursuits of them all.

They fight, laugh, love, and grow alongside Usagi throughout the series, and as the first magical girl squad ever, they really did form a good part of my childhood.

The Shintennou:

The four heavenly kings, Prince Endymion’s bodyguards later brainwashed by Queen Metalia into turning on him and the Sailor Senshi. There’s Kunzite, the serious leader of the Shitennou, Zoisite, cunning and crafty, Jadeite, psychic but a bit of a playboy, and Nephrite, astrologer and patient.

So first off, I will say that some of these personalities listed here are a bit of a mix of different canons (because the 90′s anime and the manga had very different takes sometimes) and fanon, but the essential fact of their backstory, I’m sticking with the manga.

They’re the starter villains of any Sailor Moon adaptation, but as soon as I heard their story of being Endymion’s brainwashed bodyguards, I really started liking them just for the tragedy of it all. They swore to protect their prince and their planet, and in the end they brought about the downfall of both. DDDD:

After the first arc, they pretty much either get killed or sealed in stones that Mamorou carries around for guidance, but I really think they had the potential to have their own arc! Mamorou could have had more friends, and it would have been an interesting parallel with all the Senshi.

Which of course brings us to ....

Senshi/Shittenou:

Sadly we have no other canon images of them together, so we’re just going to have to stick to these :(

So I will admit this pairing really hits all the tragic reincarnation romance tropes that I could want: protectors of a kingdom falling in love with their opposing counterpart, only for their love to betray them and their kingdom, forcing them to kill or be killed by them, and then they’re all reincarnated, and it turns out the traitors were brainwashed, but still, how do you forget all that? Can you forgive them? How do you guys manage to move on from all that???

It’s delicious with how every author goes about exploring that question, but what’s also nice is how each couple has a contrast in personalities. Venus and Kunzite are both the leaders of their group, but Venus can get Kunzite to loosen up, while Kunzite can steady her a bit. Mercury and Zoisite are both the strategists of their groups, but Zoisite can get Mercury out of her shell, while Mercury can soothe Zoisite. Mars and Jadeite are both the psychics of their groups, but the play of shrine maiden and aloof Mars against playboy Jadeite is pretty great. Jupiter and Nephrite are both the tanks of their groups, and Jupiter doesn’t have anything to prove with Nephrite, while Nephrite gets someone who will stand her ground against him.

There’s so many possibilities here, and I love all of them.

But juu, isn’t this pairing based on a lot of fanon?

Yeah of course the truth of the matter with a pairing with characters whose biggest appearance was when they were brainwashed, and whose history was only explored in one art spread by the manga-ka does mean that there’s a lot of fanon involved. Combine that with how the 90′s anime, the stage adaptation, the video games, and the manga all have different interpretations of the characters, and you get a slew of variety. Still, I don’t think that’s a bad thing! We all really like the interesting backstory here, and I feel like that’s one of the most important features.

Also, I think Kunzite/Venus is the one that has the least fanon since that one was explored a little more in the Sailor V manga.

juu, do you have a favorite Senshi/Shitennou pairing?

Yep! I really like them as an ensemble since I love seeing both the boys and the girls commiserating with each other over their troubles, but my favorite two ships are Venus/Kunzite and Mercury/Zoisite.

With Venus and Kunzite, you’ve got the senshi of love actually resisting the idea of love for herself, beating herself up over her own perceived failures as a leader, but gradually learning to forgive both herself and Kunzite, and you’ve got the stoic general of the shitennou pursuing the woman who had fascinated him and pursued him in a past life.

With Mercury/Zoisite, you’ve got Mercury, normally so level-headed and allergic to love, getting to come out of her shell a bit as Zoisite uses all his cunning to once again win his quiet lady’s heart. It’s very sweet! It’s very nice!

juu, do you prefer Senshi/Shittenou fic focusing on their past lives or their present ones?

While I do enjoy seeing the courtly romance and their first meetings, if you couldn’t tell from this post, I really like seeing them more in their present modern lives hahaha. It’s mostly because with the past lives romance, you still have the tragedy up ahead just waiting (unless this is an AU fic), while with the modern fics, there’s obviously a lot of angst, but there’s also a potential happy ending up ahead :DDDD

juu, do you have a favorite/preferred Sailor Moon adaptation?

So while the 90′s anime holds a special place in my heart as one of my first anime (it’s either that or Pokemon), the manga’s art is just GORGEOUS, and I am forever sad that the art books are out of print and now cost like 200 dollars a pop. I still have yet to watch the Crystal anime, but I am interested since I heard it’s closer to the manga’s plotline and characterization. I’ve watched some of the live-action shows and stage shows, and those are fun!

juu, what do you think about the pairings the anime came up with? Like Nephrite/Naru and Kunzite/Zoisite?

I think in the context of the 90′s anime, where the Shinttenou did not seem to have much backstory besides being Metalia’s minions, those romances worked out pretty well and was sometimes very moving. I still remember crying over Nephrite/Naru QAQ.

juu, what do you think of Mercury/Jupiter or Mars/Venus?

I think they’re popular pairings for a very good reason, especially Mars/Venus! They get so much bonding time, and Mars/Venus in particular has some very shippy moments in the manga, and Mercury/Jupiter has some in the anime, and I support them as well! I’m a multishipper, so I like these pairings as well, but Senshi/Shitennou holds a special place in my heart.

juu, do you have any fic recs?

So this was my first big OTP that I read fic for, so that was back in the days of fic archive websites that I think are mostly defunct now, or on ff.net, where also I think a lot of them got purged. But happily, I found one on Ao3 I really like! It’s this fic by winterbones, and it’s mostly a Kunzite/Venus fic, but the other Senshi/Shinttenou pairings show up as well! It focuses on the Shittenou reincarnating after the events of the anime, and how Venus is dealing with that.

Hope everyone enjoyed this! It certainly made me want to go hunt down more good fic for this pairing!

All was right in the Kingdom, until the evil King Galeforce attacked with his forces. To save his son and their friend, The Moon Kingdom King, Terrence, had Henry and the others reincarnated on Earth as he slipped into magical sleep. Terrence had sent two of his best advisors to Earth, Randy and Wilford, to watch over the children and help them awaken their powers if Galeforce decided to attack.

1. Who is the early bird/ Who is the night owl?

My head canon tells me Hermione is the early riser. She makes a huge mug of tea and potters around the house, watching the sun rise over the grounds of their home before preparing for her day. She does yoga in their gym to soothing music. She likes that time of the morning because it gives her a moment of peace before the day truly begins. She brings Draco tea and toast in bed before she leaves for work in her bookshop, kissing his forehead tenderly before she leaves. 

Draco is the night owl, he reads into the wee small hours with reading glasses perched on his nose, chuckling at Hermione’s snoring (which she adamantly demands she does not do). Sometimes he wanders the house if he can’t sleep, checking the wards and making cocoa or lighting a fire in the lounge to read some more. He sets the tea things out ready for Hermione in the morning and leaves her a love note beside the tea pot. Sometimes he runs on the treadmill in their gym to knacker himself out or occasionally wakes Hermione to make love to her in the middle of the night. He loves how warm and snuggly she is when he wakes her and she’ll complain about his cold feet. 

18. Who is the cat person/ Who is a dog person?

I think it would be rude to suggest Hermione isn’t the cat person. She has exasperated Draco with her small menagerie of cats and kittens, who roam their large home, jumping out on Draco from dark corners in the night and following him around constantly. He shoo’s them away but they love him and often snuggle up to any part of him he’ll allow. 

Draco is the dog person as he was brought up with dogs, though he doesn’t hate cats, they just get on his nerves with how haughty they can be. Mercury and Jupiter, his Irish Wolf Hounds, are trained to be obedient but often run off to chase the cats, much to his dismay. When he rises later in the morning, he often finds the two dogs in their bed with the cats snuggled up beside them. The cutest scene is when Mercury was found with Tea Cake (the smallest tabby kitten) asleep right beside his muzzle.

After the Cauldron: Return of the Cosmos

This is the end. My last entry to the After the Cauldron Series. Focusing on everyone's OTP, Usagi and Mamoru. It also fits in perfect with @idesofnovember​ and the third day of their UsaMamoWeek challenge. Sometimes everything just lines up perfectly. Enjoy.

Sagittarius Zero, found in the center of the Milky Way Galaxy was the location of the Galactic Cauldron. A nexus in the universe where cosmic energy of the stars and planets gathers together. The only location in existence where Star Seeds, fragments of pure light and Chaos Seeds, slivers of condensed darkness were produced. When complete, these vessels of power erupt from the Cauldron, fly across space, and seek out hosts to whom they resonate. Those who bear Star Seeds will become Sailor Senshi, individuals charged with the eternal mission of preserving life and purifying the hearts of those who are swayed by the carriers of the seeds of Chaos.

It was at this location, Eternal Sailor Moon, the enhanced form of Tsukino Usagi, did battle with Sailor Galaxia, an individual possessing a Chaos Seed so powerful, the being chosen demanded to be referred to as Chaos. The power of Chaos was immense and nearly defeated Eternal Sailor Moon, but instead she joined with Sailor Chibi Chibi Moon, the spirit of the Cauldron itself awoke to prevent Chaos from throwing off the equilibrium of the universe. Blessed by the power bestowed on her, Tsukino Usagi became Sailor Cosmos, a being who was able to match and conquer the darkness of Chaos.

The battle over, Sailor Cosmos was able to manipulate the power of the Galactic Cauldron and made two commands. First, she forgave Chaos and allowed the continued production of the Chaos Seeds ensuring the balance of power was maintained. The second, she breathed new life into the Star Seeds of those defeated by Sailor Galaxia, allowing them to regain their human forms.

With a wave of her hand, Sailor Cosmos made this decree, watching as the Star Seeds of those she called friends and family were ejected from the Cauldron. In a flash of light, the Star Seeds transported away from Sagittarius Zero, leaving the Sailor Senshi with the power of a goddess alone to converse with the spirit of the Cauldron which now lived inside of her.

Hikawa Shrine, the home of Hino Rei, Sailor Mars, and thought to be the unofficial base of the Sailor Senshi of the planet Earth. It was here the Star Seeds were delivered and as the energy which had brought them faded, the stasis surrounding them disappeared as well. As the energy bestowed on them from the Galactic Cauldron took effect, the bodies of each of the fallen Sailor Senshi formed into place. Mars, Venus, Jupiter, Mercury, Saturn, Pluto, Neptune, and Uranus all found themselves alive and well. Soon, those not native to the planet, Sailor Star Fighter, Sailor Star Healer, Sailor Star Maker, and the princess they protected Sailor Kakyuu were blessed with their human forms as well.

The last to form was the Sailor Senshi of the planet Earth. In his former life, he had been known as Endyminion but in this lifetime he was known as Chiba Mamoru. The warrior awoke to find himself in his sailor persona of Tuxedo Mask but also discovered himself full of energy. Digging through the pocket of his suit coat, he found three small shards of crystal and the four jeweled stones which held the souls of his the Shittennou, his four generals in a previous life. The last of the energy from the Cauldron had washed over the objects and caused the souls inside them to be reborn as well. In a flash of light, the four stones became Kunzite, Jadeite, Nephrite, and Zoisite and the three small shards became the guardian cats Luna, Diana, and Artemis, who had lost their lives in the battle against Chaos’ forces.

Alive and aware of their situations, the Sailor Senshi and their allies found themselves engaging in displays of affections and rejoicing. Group hugs were given, the Sailor Starlights bowed to their Princess, and the Shittennou swore their undying loyalty to Mamoru, insisting they would work to make up for the damage they had done while under the control of Queen Beryl. Though Sailor Mars was hesitant to trust the Shittennou as they made their pledge, she could not help but smile as she watched Sailor Venus lunge at Kunzite, and throw her arms around his neck and hold him tight in an effort to rekindle the love they once shared in their previous life.

As Mamoru smiled at the tender embrace of Venus and Kunzite, a shadow passed through his mind with a dark through which chilled him to the core. A simple notion of what could make this moment absolutely perfect and what was missing from this heartfelt reunion. His eyes darted through the gathering and his heart began to pound with fear as he opened his mouth and asked a terrifying question, “Everyone...where is Usagi?”

The area was immediately filled with silence as they realized she hadn’t returned. A shiver ran down as the fear they would never see Usagi again became a possibility in everyone’s mind and the very thought caused the feeling of warmth to leave their very being. The crowd’s eyes darted everywhere, hoping they would catch sight of her. Hoping she would appear from behind a tree, clumsy tripping as she rushed toward everyone to embrace and show everything was fine.

No one spoke. Everyone was too afraid to ask if she was coming back, as if even asking the question would risk challenging fate and preventing Usagi from returning home.

Time seemed to come to crawl for everyone as they stared at the starry sky. Seconds turned to minutes, turned into an hour. The crowd was afraid to move, scared to even suggest they should engage in a single action without Usagi present. Frightened over the thought one moment without her would lead to many and soon, Tsukino Usagi would be nothing but a memory.  

For Mamoru the waiting felt as torturous as being caught in the limbo of death he experienced while caged by Sailor Galaxia. Like all the Star Seeds which had been locked in her menagerie, his soul had been tied to the vessel, unable to experience heaven or hell, only an endless void of nothingness. Now, the very thought of the woman he loved not returning and having to face a future where Usagi was not by his side felt just as barren and empty. He would not sit ideally by and let such a possibility gain momentum.

“I’m going after her,” Mamoru stated firmly, knowing what needed to be done.“I’ll find her and bring her back to Earth.”

“The entrance to Sagittarius Zero appears and disappears throughout the Galaxy for seconds at best,” Princess Kakyou explained, her eyes unable to mask the pain from knowing such a mission was destined to fail. “It only stayed constant due to the involvement of Chaos. Without such dark power to keep the entrance in one place it will again become the most elusive and valued treasures in all of the universe. You could easily spend ten lifetimes living on rumors and leads and never find it.”

“Then tell me...can Usagi ever be freed from the power we felt her obtain or is her soul forever now bound with the cauldron unable to even achieve reincarnation,” Mamoru asked, wanting a straight answer. Princess Kakyuu cast her eyes to the ground, knowing the answer and not wanting to expressly say such a fate had befallen her comrade. A fire burned in Mamoru as he obtained his answer. “Well...then I will spend TWENTY liftimes if I have to and find the entrance to Sagitarious Zero. I will crawl through Hell itself on my hands and knees if it means I can look into her blue eyes for another moment. I would rather live on waning hope and fading dreams than imagine an existence that Tsukino Usagi isn’t able to inject the world with the energy she radiates. Now...I am going...you will not stop me, you will only delay me, even if it means you kill me. I will go and find her!”

The crowd stood in awe at the young man’s declaration of love and devotion. The Sailor Senshi smiled with the familiar love they shared, as the man they loved as a brother made his intentions clear. The Shittessou beamed with pride at how strong their prince had grown. Even one who had never interacted with him before, Sailor Star Fighter, stood in amazement at Mamoru’s statement.

“Wait,” Sailor Pluto objected as she noticed something out of the ordinary. “Diana is still there. If she is, then the timeline with the future of Crystal Tokyo must be in alignment. Usagi will return.”

A brief calm, washed over the crowd, but left just as briefly as another hour passed as they stood around hoping any second Usagi would appear and reward them all with a smile.

“Well, I don’t plan on waiting around,” Mamoru insisted, looking towards the Shittessou. “I will make arrangements for you all to stay at my place while you reclaim your lives.”

“You are delusional to think for a moment we are going to let you go off alone without at least someone coming with you,” Kunzite interjected, shooting a brief glance to Sailor Venus as if to say “ I may have to go with him but I swear I will return to you. ”

“Let’s get a plan together!” Sailor Mercury declared, hoping to bring calm thinking back to the situation. “ We will find a way to bring her back.

“Yes but…,” Mamoru’s attention was distracted as he noticed an object in the sky. A ball of light was approaching where they stood. In a flash of light the bubble collapsed and Sailor Cosmos was standing in front of the group. A burst of energy blinded the group and when it faded, Usagi was standing looking up at the winged form of Sailor Chibi Chibi.

“Thank you for your assistance,” The tiny cherub complimented Usagi for her help. “Chaos would not have been stopped without your help. The universe owes you a great debt Sailor Moon.”

After the tiny winged finger thanked Usagi, it flew around the group twice before jetting into the sky and out of sight. Shocked by what had just happened, everyone looked from the sky to the returned form of their friend.  

“Sorry I am late,” Usagi chuckled nervously. She could tell immediately her friends had started to worry when she had not returned right away. “I used the power of the cauldron to send Chibi-Usa and the Sailor Quartet back to the future. Did I miss…”

Usagi was cut off as Mamoru pulled her into his arms and held her close. A moment later, both Inner and Outer Senshi surrounded the couple and a large group hug took place. The princess has returned to her friends, her lover, and her family. It was a time to celebrate.

Hours past until it was long past midnight. Farewells were said as the Sailor Starlights and their princess left the planet so they could return to their home in hopes of rebuilding. Sailor Pluto promised she would personally make sure Diana would be able to return to the future safely. The Sailor Senshi and Shittessou insisted they would meet up tomorrow and have a discussion about how to help the men reclaim the lives the Dark Kingdom had stolen from them. Mamoru voluntarily gave his resurrected friends his keys, insisting they could stay at his place for the evening while he took the time to escort Usagi home. After many emotional moments, the couple found themselves alone on the streets of Tokyo, walking hand and hand.

Neither of them spoke, one would think they were drained from the experience they had just endured but this was far from the truth. Instead, having experienced the agony of losing the other, each secretary was fighting a desire to succumb to physical passion.

“You…,” Mamoru began as he knew they were only a few blocks from Usagi’s home. His body screamed at him, insisting he wrap his arms around her and never let her go. His logic filled brain did not listen. “You must be tired. You had an incredible experience.”

“Yeah,”  Usagi agreed as she stopped walking. Her heart ached for his touch and her body felt the same torment. “I guess I am but I don’t know how I feel. A lot has happened. It’s all a bit overwhelming.”

"I can’t even imagine. You truly are the strongest of us all,” Mamoru complimented, his very being tense with desire. He wanted nothing more than to taste her sweet kiss again.

“I was so scared the entire time,” Usagi admitted, remembering the torment of seeing Galaxia manipulate Mamoru’s body into acts of humiliation and submission. “All I wanted was to give up...all I wanted was to know peace.

“Then, you need a night to just relax. We should probably just take things slow," He whispered, licking his dry lips. He was thirsty for salvation only she could offer. "We went through a lot."

"Y-your right," She lied, denying her own sense of longing. "I guess you can just walk me home and we'll say...goodbye."

My OTP are a perfect astrological match
