Hee joo's devotion and willingness to do anything for sa eon is giving me life she's one in a million and yes sa eon is as devoted as a human can be but that's almost every male lead ever but a female lead like her is practically extinct especially one that matches her otps romantic gestures and sacrifices to an exact degree (her getting down and proposing while remaking the contract? Iconic) do you have any suggestions for other dramas with women like her? The only one I can think of from this year is Dou zhao from blossom who floored me with how she used every tool at her disposal to cherish her husband in a way you only see MLs do.

I'm also totally in love with Hong Hee-joo from When the Phone Rings and Dou Zhao from Blossom! There are some other similar female leads. Spoilers ahead:

Han Ri-ta in Moon in the Day murders her husband's father, expecting to die for it, so she can free him. (And it's even more wild because her husband killed her entire family; best enemies to lovers ever.) In the present, her reincarnation decides to off herself to end a curse/save the people around her. She's also a competent firefighter.

Naksu/Cho Yeong/Mu-deok from Alchemy of Souls. She pursues goals to a suicidal level to help Jang Uk/herself gain her powers. She also gives up her power for love. I will never get over her insane plan to poison Jang Uk and get herself tortured in Ep 3, very unhinged.

Oh Han-byul from Sh**ting Stars. She is more like Dou Zhao from Blossom, very competent at her job and very protective of the male lead (despite finding him very annoying at first). She also does the male lead thing of helping him in secret: phones for help when she sees him being mobbed by fans, gets him his favourite foods but doesn't say it's from her, etc.

Despite starting off as a silly fangirl, Orchid from Love Between Fairy and Devil matures a lot and becomes an equal to her over-powered fiance. She proposes to him too! She drugs him in an attempt to save him, endures a torture cave so they can marry, and sacrifices herself to stop a war.

I'm on Ep 28/68, but A'wu from The Rebel Princess is pretty great. She starts as a idealistic teenager but grows up very fast. She has a great ride or die vibe with her husband, which includes her threatening suicide rather than being used as a captive to sway her husband's decisions.

This is getting long, so I'll add W: Two Worlds, Flower of Evil, Happiness, and Doom at Your Service as fitting this theme. The female lead in Happiness breaking out of a military base to save her infected husband and then telling him she loves him even at his worst? *chef's kiss*

When I started shipping it if I did: 2004? I think they were my first HP ship.

My thoughts: AAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAAA.

What makes me happy about them: THEY SAVE EACH OTHER'S LIVES ON THEIR FIRST AND LAST NIGHTS TOGETHER, RESPECTIVELY. TELL ME ANYTHING MORE ROMANTIC THAN THAT. Also, found family in a sense, but better yet, they were given to each other by James and Lily, and their chemistry from the very beginning is everything, they are so utterly devoted to each other, so thrilled to be in each other's lives, so love-starved and touch-starved, they are each other's links to their past as well as each other's hope for the future. All they want is to care for each other, it's so fucking beautiful it hurts, and the reason it's so fucking hot and just the right amount of sweetly toxic is because they have no fucking boundaries, Harry was raised in abject neglect (so was Sirius, in his own way) and Sirius spent those years in prison so they suffered on parallel timelines and now here they are, a collision of orbits, perfect complements, where Harry was forced to grow up too fast and Sirius' life stopped at 21 so the power imbalance is skewed and fucky and all the lines get blurred because they simply need so desperately, the hunger and yearning, but also the fact they just get each other. They tick each other's boxes, fill all the voids, the need to protect, to be protected, and it's no secret this man was Harry's sexual awakening, a not-father figure but the first man to step up and fill those role model shoes, with his tattoos and his recklessness and his general sexiness/coolness making him unlike any adult who's ever shown Harry affection, not to mention the yummy angst of Past Prongsfoot™, so extra guilt for Sirius there, but more significantly, he very quickly comes to see Harry as his own person. I think he's the first one to see that the similarities to James are less than the differences, and more beautiful for that, and I think it would be a bit terrifying for him to realize he's fallen for Harry as himself and not as a replacement, because now he has no excuse, he can't write it off as an inevitability of loving James. ...Anyway.

What makes me sad about them: HE FUCKING DIES.

Things done in fanfic that annoys me: I'd share in DMs, but as someone with the world's lowest self esteem, I never want to discourage anyone from writing what they love.

Things I look for in fanfic: I love canon-compliant or canon-adjacent, desperation and codependency, Harry being first ashamed and afraid of rejection, then when he knows he's got him, shameless about what he wants. I love Sirius being tortured by his own guilt until the explosive breaking point where he loses all self control. OOTP era is my favorite because they're in close physical proximity and there are Opportunities, okay, OPPORTUNITIES. Late-night fireside chats (snogs), Harry slipping into Sirius' room under pretense of nightmares, come on, it fucking writes itself. I'll read the occasional Sirius Lives (just wrote one, in fact), but part of me kinda loves that he dies, because it enables all my OTPs to exist in tandem, case in point...

Who I’d be comfortable them ending up with, if not each other: Sirius? No one. He's gone for that boy and he dies loving him. But 20 years later, Harry falls for Teddy and is wracked with the most delicious guilt. Is he projecting the godfather-godson dynamic he so brutally lost with Sirius? (No, but the guilt is fun!) I also like the premise of Harry and Draco falling into each other post-divorce, better late than never, but after a lifetime of competing for Teddy's attention, godfather vs cousin, turns out the boy's kind of in love with them both, so H/D/T OT3 is my jam.

My happily ever after for them: Sirius lives, obviously. But I want to write a fic where, after the war, Harry obsessively dedicates himself to working out the mysteries of the veil and getting Sirius back. He succeeds some 20 years later, right after he finally decides to leave the past behind and embrace the present, where his own lovely godson has been madly in love with him for years. So basically he gets Sirius back right after he and Teddy begin a relationship, thus it ends up Sirry+Teddy OT3, but this is where multishipping hits a brick wall because what about Draco. OT4?

who is the big spoon/little spoon: I'm dully traditional and default to whoever's bigger (Sirius), but I think they wake up fairly often with Harry clinging to his back, all nestled in like a cute little parasite.

what is their favorite non-sexual activity: Motorbike rides, pickup Quidditch, Muggle video games, and I think they like to travel. Harry never did, growing up, and after all those years in Azkaban... yeah. Gay cross-gen wizards take on the world.

satoru gojo and suguru geto this would be a super chill, deep and fun relationship. i think you’d all be best friends. its the kind of relationship where youre all comfortable with and know each other so well that words arent really even needed. gojo loves you and geto, geto loves you and gojo, and you love them both. you would die for each other. people might not even be able to tell if you guys are together or just close friends, but the answer is: both! you have fun together, no matter where you are or what you do. i feel like you and geto have to take turns being the responsible one; if you and gojo are up to something he’ll gently persuade you not to do something that ends with jailtime, and when he and gojo plan an elaborate, sinister prank on nanami you have to tell them to please leave the poor dude alone. gojo is also the clingiest mf in the world, so youre gonna have to let him cling to you or geto like a koala sometimes. geto isnt as clingy, but will want to just rest with you while reading a book. both of them crave stability, but also fun. oh, and i just see them being protective as hell. theyre the strongest, so you never have to worry about anything happening to you. overall this relationship is just very stable and sweet, and you all love each other more than anything.

satoru gojo and kento nanami this would be a… kinda chaotic but sweet relationship. you are the middle ground that keeps nanami from killing gojo. they bicker pretty often, and disagree on a lot of things — i do think theyd love each other, though. its just in subtext. when nanami tells gojo to fuck off, its said with love. all jokes aside, i think this relationship would work out well, as long as you can balance them out. sometimes gojo needs someone to be a menace with him, sometimes nanami needs someone who ISNT a menace. gojo will steal both your and nanamis clothes, and also cling to you 24/7. nanami usually pushes him off, so youll have to oblige, otherwise he’ll sulk and ask you when the divorce is coming. he’ll buy both of you gifts all the time, and even if hes annoying sometimes, he loves you; and tries to show it, even when it ends up with him audibly saying ”cringe” afterwards. nanami is more lowkey with his affection, but shows it through acts of service and words of affirmation. he wants to make sure youre not feeling overwhelmed, especially considering youre the one who has to ”put up with gojo” most of the time. they argue and bicker, but the relationship is full of love from all sides.

I can see it but I also think I would be more stressed in this dynamic than I am in my roruru one.

I'm watching monarch industry on your rec and 42 eps in I really like it but I'm sorry so far I'm not seeing the most ride or die otp he's crazy about her and has done everything in his power and 100 times more to take care of her and her awful family including giving up the token kneeling all night giving her another wedding after finding out she can't have children and 60 other things of immense magnitude that show he loves more than anything and she's just idk what she's doing but it's certainly nothing or even close to what he is like is she's even being vicious in some moments like telling him he doesn't know what family means like is the ride or die coming in the last 20 eps ? Cause I know we get her being badass and protecting the city etc but that was like 20 eps ago and when I see "one of the most ride or die otps of all time" I expect equal devotion in their actions or idk what ride or die means

That's so interesting to hear your perspective. I can see where it seems that he's doing more for her than she is for him, but I disagree with you that it's not equal devotion.

Xiao Qi obviously has many scenes that showcase how devoted to Awu he is but there are so, so many that show how much she loves him and works to protect him as well. Her method is more quiet and done with intent but it's still her devotion to him that shines through.

I probably can't go through the entire show to pull examples but I'll link to some gifsets that demonstrate how she shows her love and devotion to him:

The scene where she punishes the women for trying to set Xiao Qi up by poisoning him

When they're out in the native lands and she uses the local custom of the woman dancing with the man they want to marry to stake her claim on him. The happiness she shows when she's with him shines through this entire sequence

She embroiders him a full on cloak to wear into battle

She flat out tells him "We live and die together" when they're facing a horde at the gates

Again, she tells him he's the most important to her and she will always be by his side.

When he's leaving under the guise of them being 'estranged' and they just look at each other to acknowledge they are with one another to the end.

This small moment where she makes him pinky promise that they will always be honest with each other.

I mean, I could say more. And I'm sure @dangermousie can come up with a ton more examples. But Awu is 100% devoted to her man and backs it up with words and action.

No, she doesn't drive off a cliff to protect her man like our girl Hee Joo in Phone Rings - but her quiet strength and loyalty along with her outward badassery (protecting the town and riding out to confront the invaders alone) is incredibly evident all throughout the drama. You can search my blog for lots of evidence of her love and devotion to her husband.

So I stand by the two of them as equally ride or die, in my humble opinion.

Thank youuuu I would love to talk about the wondrous and incandescent Sam Butler:

I feel like Sam is getting her flowers in Season 2 and flew under the radar a bit in Season 1, but Season 1 established that Sam's strength lies in seeing the emotional connections between people and that she has a very strong emotional intelligence. She sees how people matter to each other, but her insecurities break my heart as they don't let her internalize how those connections often spread from HER. S2 shows us that she has spent so much time convinced that people don't actually like her but are liking a spell she is casting on them, even though the reality is that people genuinely like her. She is charming, but she isn't just charming; she has a strong desire to know things about others.

I've only ever shipped Sam with Evan, I'll be honest-- in season 1, she was the first person to say hi to him and attempt to include him the moment she met him. Sam literally talked demons out of possessing him. It blindsided me when Evan and K were the pairing in S1 (though by the time S2 began, they'd broken up) because I saw Sam's genuine care and affection for the person Evan was and I saw K's more surface-level fascination with Evan's situation and sad-boy deal over his person-ness. No K hate, it's literally their arc. And in season 2, that care and affection has continued to grow between Sam and Evan from the start, as early as episode 2 when Sam sees Evan giving into a violent urge and stops him bc she's worried about him, when she notices Evan is being really violent with his shadow, and when Evan carries Sam across a sea of lava and they have an emotional talk about wanting to be in each other's lives. And the whole time K and Sam are talking about what Sam wants in a partner it keeps cutting to Evan doing something off to the side... and then epsidoe 3 happens where Evan fucking dies and Sam is the only person who can look at the shadow version of him? And how she's the one to ask all the right questions to determine how to get Evan back to life? And from that point onward, we see them both prioritizing each other first in everything: in combat, in emotional scenes; they gravitate towards each other before others. I could talk about this part forever but won't bc this is about SAM and not the two of them as a couple. She is so attentive, caring, and loving; it shows in the way she sees Evan as a normal person, and he validates that for her by showing that he consistently sees to the core of her.

Non-romantic OTP, K Tanaka and Sam are Pink Pals forever, childhood friends that were super close, grew apart in adolescence, and then re-connected as 17 year-olds. They care for each other a lot and are able to have tough conversations together even if it means getting a little tense because it matters to them.

I know this doesn't count as an unpopular opinion about Sam the character, but seeing as how I don't have any, I would love to see more art of Sam with her natural hair or, at the very least, with some of the protective styles she would wear under her wigs! I'll contribue myself sometime soon, but I'd love to see it from other people, too!

I would have loved to see Sam get to have more time with Fergus Pontz, a character who she dated in S1 and then saw very briefly in episode 3 after Evan got killed-- we find out he followed the Pilot Program's pathing from island to island and then ended up somewhere with bomb in his chest?? and he died??? so she never got to meet back up with him and find out how he survived things; clearly something in their old dynamic was haunting her and it would have been nice for her to get that closure with him.

Worst Fandom Takes I've Seen:

Damn this is difficult. there are so many shit takes floating around hmmmm let's start with the easy ones.

Twinkification of sirius black. ranted about this on my blog already so i'll keep it short. it sucks. also fun fact, i used to be a total marauders fanon fan until the butchering of sirius' character (+ the rise of jegulus). So really, it was just sirius’ character assassination that made question fanon marauders. Remus fanonization hasn’t bothered me till quite recently lol.

I read your tw list for icos and oh gosh. That's one heavy book. I'm not even sure it's for me. Is there, like SOMETHING that is not terrible in these books? A good msg or a happy ending? Anything that would make me want to live and not put me in a depression?

I think the best thing I can do is tell you that I don't do tragic endings. I'll swim in whump superhell and like it, but the end has to be pointing up. 99.99% of the stories I rec end pointing up, with the OTP still together. Sometimes I just enjoy seeing them hurt a bit or a lot before they get to that point lol

ICoS is a very long (especially if you go for the original version) story, and it gets so dark in such vivid and extensive details that it can be very uncomfortable, but all the characters are incredible survivors. Even the ones that are straight up antagonists. It ends up being a story of resilience, survivors, hope, finding meaning and connections even when every single odd is stacked against them, choosing to put one foot in front of the other again and again. You have a hopeless post-WWIII nuclear dystopia, and still characters fall in love, despair, try to protect one another, laugh, mourn, get hurt, hurt others, hurt themselves, live.

I didn't have the word for it back when I read it the first time, but ICoS shares quite a few traits with the grimdark genre, only to thread it together with the slowburn + angst-with-happy-for-now-ending* tags. And it works. It worked so well ICoS still comes to mind whenever I think about masterclass examples of dystopian worldbuilding.

*Happy-for-now because it's still a dystopia at the end of the day

Hibari's age was never really revealed in any official source, but a good hint to it was when Tsuna&co moved up a year, they thought he already graduated. So he's a third year while they were first years. He should at least be a year older than Ryohei, so I estimate around 16-17 would be a reasonable guess. Also forgot to put their TYL ages, just imagine their +10 ages there lol

I'm gonna be honest, I had a bit of a hard time on this one since I know the chart is leaning more towards a more definite romance. But, they're freaks, your honor! (affectionate) 😭

How It Happens? - Does it even happen? What exactly will happen? In terms of fighting, it's at first sight for Hibari. Or rather, it's ON sight, his tonfa is always ready. In terms of the more complicated feelings, they both take a lot of time for it as expected with their personalities. Kana is the one who takes the most psychic damage from this.

Confession & Proposal - Such formalities are never really needed between them, they both know that and find comfort in that. They won't even bother with labels. Please refer to the "Relationship Attitude" box 🥴✨

Handling Conflict | Apology after a fight - This is certainly talking about the non-physical fights...I don't know, I'm scared 😰 /hj They'll fight out the apology phase physically. They implicitly reconcile after they're both lying on the ground all injured & beat up.

Cooking | Housework - I don't see them moving in together permanently in one house, there's no reason to. For now, they'll both just stay peacefully in their own residences. The respective housework are handled by Kusakabe (more on management/delegation of it not the actual housework itself) and by Rosa (can be management too, but she happily does it for Kana).

Overprotective - The thing is that, they have this unyielding mutual trust in each other's strength, skills & abilities and that the other would survive no matter what battles they encounter on their own. Anyone who somehow wants to trigger some sort overprotective instinct from one of them must really want that any% death speedrun achievement so very very bad.

Designated Driver - Kana can drive too, but she lets him drive if they're in a car together.

Penmanship - Hibari wins by default. The bar is in hell with Kana's shit handwriting.

Dies Protecting the Other - They are both willing to die to protect the other. But I chose Kana on the basis that she has suicidal tendencies = higher chances, you know?
