random question I thought of about the o!sky au- where is Wind at in terms of sex ed? In much to learn he tells Time about helping crew members with heats in a distinctly non-sexual fashion, and Time has to tell him that Wild’s heat is sort of a different situation, so it seems like he has maybe a limited understanding of the whole thing…? Also actually how old *is* he? Sorry if you’ve answered this already lol

To answer your second question: my hc is that presentation occurs later in puberty, between 16-19 depending on the individual and their life circumstances. I'm pegging Wind as a late bloomer around the late-18-year mark in this series.

To answer your first question requires some background on how heat/rut cycles and reproduction are affected by societal and economic pressures in each of the heroes' eras.

Holy shit that is NOT a sentence I ever thought I'd type out loud.

One of the things I find most fun to play with in this AU is the idea that each of the heroes come from eras of different but similar customs that are affected by unique societal pressures. There is a lot of potential for mixed messages and hurt feelings, especially in the beginning, as well as danger to some members of the party, such as in the Era of Legend or the Era of War.

Wind comes from a world not unlike Sky's where small islands of civilization are dotted across the Great Sea. These islands breed small but strong communities among which there are deep family ties. Land is somewhat scarce and the sea itself is pretty devoid of life which limits available resources, especially food.

Consequently, choosing a mate and choosing to reproduce has to be done carefully and deliberately among those in Wind's era. Monogamy is common and family units are typically small with only 1-2 children. Many but not all denizens of the Great Sea have to go far afield to find themselves a life partner to avoid family lines crossing too closely. Alphas tend to outnumber omegas in many but not all eras, and in Wind's time it's not uncommon for an alpha to choose the bachelor life rather than settling down with a family.

Wind would have been raised with a very traditional view of alpha, omega, and otherwise, with an understanding that heat and rut doesn't always equate to sex and reproduction but that it makes those instincts hard to resist. Like in Sky's era, omegas can help one another through 'innocent' heats because there's no risk of pregnancy, but a pirate crew is even smaller and closer to one another than an island community is. Tetra and the others would have no choice but to lean on Wind to take shifts to help though the illness of a heat cycle heat, but since he hadn't presented it would be perfectly platonic in nature. It also wouldn't start up the alpha-omega hormone cycle that dominates Wild's heat in Much to Learn.

In fact, across all eras, those that haven't presented can't really perform any sexual functions during another's heat or rut anyway. Most of the excitement and necessary physiologic changes are dependent upon hormone production that just doesn't happen prior to presentation. It's like being the sober friend babysitting all your weird drunk friends who are all touchy-feely and laughing about nonsense. You're happy they're having a good time but you're just not in the right headspace to get it, maybe, and honestly they're being a bit obnoxious...

In major contrast, heat cycles in the post-Calamity era are a bit of a free-for-all, as Wild's wildly promiscuous nature demonstrates. After the Calamity has settled down and life is beginning to return to Hyrule, little pockets of society are popping up across a vast, untamed countryside. It's been a minute since I've booted up BotW but I feel like in EVERY village and Stable Association outpost there are at LEAST two kids running around, often more.

Alphas in rut likely go and travel to sow their wild oats, as it were. Omega wanderers don't limit themselves to one partner, because why should they? Resources are abundant and civilization is coming alive again, so it's an era to rebuild and prosper. Although traditions and customs in the pre-Calamity era were quite different, Wild's free-and-loose living is a direct consequence of his version of the world.

I have been thinking and feeling (and hearing, har har) about Estinien a lot recently, especially his early life in Ferndale, and I have some headcanons to foist upon you all. I'm going to refer to his parents as Ma and Pa.

The Varlineaus were shepherds (canon), though Ma kept a garden (most homes in Ferndale did) with an apple tree. She taught Estinien and Hamignant a lot about caring for the plants she grew. (Estinien's forgotten some of it by now, though I'd like to think his memory could be refreshed.) Ma loved that apple tree and gave it a lot of special love and care. Otherwise she grew herbs, and food that was good for preserving and pickling because...

Ma and Pa's generation saw a really bad winter hit Ferndale. As a result, they were big on preserving and pickling to ensure their family would never face starvation like that. Although Estinien isn't a disaster in the kitchen, his skills are pretty simple. (Sandwiches, eggs, steaming/boiling veggies, etc.) However, he inexplicably retains all that Ma taught him about the pickling/preserving/jam-making process; probably in large part because he always helped her and it was one of his favourite things. This also goes with a oneshot wolstinien fic I wrote in which Estinien remembers that Hamignant's favourite food was pickles. (As in standard pickled cucumbers.)

Shifting to something else a little, Estinien won't kill bees. Wasps/hornets/etc. sure, if he must, but not proper bees. Ferndale respected bees, nigh on revered them even, for their vital role in pollination. One of the other families in Ferndale were beekeepers, and they adamantly adhered to telling the bees. (Basic version: telling the bees is an old beekeeping practice of informing a beehive of major local happenings, especially births, deaths, and marriages. Yes, as in the beekeeper talks to the bees. In the case of marriages, the bees need to be brought a piece of wedding cake. Failing to do this is said to result in misfortune befalling the hive, and by extension, the community. Practices vary by country/region.)

In a similar vein, the people of Ferndale were fairly superstitious. With the population likely being mostly, if not entirely Elezen, they leaned heavily into being "long of ear" as a sign of good fortune and general physical attractiveness. At least once a day, Ma or Pa used to pinch Estinien and Hamignant's ear tips and give them a little tug to "help them grow". It was, of course, uncomfortable and obnoxious, but there was no getting out of it. This was practised across Ferndale.

So TL;DR, Estinien can make preserves, pickles, jams, even pie fillings if he wants (though not the crust lol), he's probably sleeping on some old plant-care/botany knowledge, his parents used to pinch/tug his ears, and he respects he hell out of bees.

I absolutely adore this project and since I've been thinking about my own xenomoggy WIP a lot recently, I now have a bunch of very niche questions.

1) How similar to real-world felines are these guys? Like, what things can they eat? Are citrus-like fruits poisonous to them? Are things like mint poisonous?

2) Are they obligate carnivores or do they lean a bit more omnivorous, like canines?

3) Can they taste sweetness? If so, what kind of sweet food do they eat?

4) How technologically advanced are they? Do they cook their food? If they do, what foods are different in each pride? Do they use spices?

5) Can they make tea? Because the idea of someone's mother or friends making them tea when they're upset/sad is absolutely adorable.

Sorry for the obnoxious amount of questions, this project is giving me major brainworms 😅

I kinda just dumped these thoughts into point form in the notes app so I'm giving you these answers fresh and unadulterated

There's a solid mix of fantasy and realism. For instance, their colour vision is roughly equal to ours, but they still have good night vision (or maybe it's just that two moons means the night vision isn't actually as good). Overall anatomy and function is otherwise p similar (which some exceptions) and I do have thoughts on what they eat.

Their diet relies heavily on meat, but fruits and mushrooms frequently end up in the mix. Canines are a good comparison!

The acidic aspect of citrus-like fruits wouldn't appeal to them, and they still can't taste sweet, but other more mild fruits have high water content that make them an important addition to the diet even if the taste doesn't appeal.

Mushrooms are important because they are the only thing that really actively grows during the Sleeping Year, but they don't contain much water.  Still, nutrients is nutrients.

There's also a number of plants that can be safely ingested and which can provide medicinal value, but here's something most people don't realize: medicine is usually just poison, but in small enough amounts to help you instead of kill you.

Regardless, most of the plants are made-up (the ones that aren't, still have different names (what im saying is most ppl wouldn't realize they are real)) so the I Do What I Want rule applies to poison vs medicine vs edible uwu

Unsure of the specifics of cooking yet, though it's a tentative yes. Strongly considering giving Goldspring a sort of endless stew situation that they just keep adding to and maintain for the course of a year. Fire is risky business in this setting, but given the fact they live in a volcanic region, there are other ways to cook one's food. Hell, maybe that's what allowed these cat societies to exist in the first place

spices is an interesting question, like I'd guess they would mix foods for the sake of taste so it doesn't seem too much a stretch that they would add in normally non-edible plants to enhance flavour. So yeah, it prolly happens.

Teas would mostly be medicinal, and probably frequently mixed with animal blood.  Everyone complains about it but at least it does what the healers say it does.  Plus, the inability to taste sweet I think would take most of the pleasure out of it??? Listen I don't drink tea but if someone who does has a better take, I'm all ears lol

As for their technological advancement, think of humans around mid ice age era. They have elegantly designed tools (ranging from knives to sewing needles to hammers), impressive leatherworking (tanning, cleaning, sewing), some textiles (associated dyes included), and limited infrastructure (consisting largely of living infrastructure woven from milksap aerial roots and occasional supports and modifications to existing natural shelters, also natural paths are maintained throughout the area)

But they lack weaponry (hard-baked into honour code systems that are enforced by the prides) and anything requiring multiple bodies to build/maintain (can't sustain population density). No farming (though I'm itching for some Weird Bird Domestication taking its first shaky steps in one of the prides, prolly Bogden)

Topper:

Cuteness: 7 (Topper has a round body, big eyes, little hands, and twitchy nose. So, pretty cute.)

Fashion sense: 5 (I like shininess as much as the next guy, but Topper's outfit is a bit too shiny. It looks cheap, as described in the game. Also, the pants look like some kind of watermelon. Also also, something about the colors just don't work for me. He gets some points for the bowtie, top hat, and the overall "clean" look.)

Personality: 7 (I remember that a lot of people complained that the Broodals had no personality, but you can actually see quite a few differences between the Broodals when it comes to how they spoke, acted in battle, and "greeted" Mario. Topper seems to be calm and overconfident. You never see him get angry, and he usually just wears a [smug] grin. It also seems like he takes his job seriously [more so than the other Broodals]. He might even have been a little intimidating if he weren't a goofy little rabbit.)

Ass-kicking ability: 8 (I'm really just ranking this off of how difficult their fights in the game were. If I'm being honest, all of the Broodal battles are easy. The only reason I ranked this so high is because Dark Side Topper would be the hardest Broodal fight in the game [if you didn't know you could just jump on his back while he is spinning].

Voice: 4 (It kind of hurts my ears when he yells, but otherwise it's fine.)

Hat: 9 (I'm ranking this based on how the hats themselves look, and how they are used in battle. Hats are the main gimmick in SMO, so I thought it would be a good idea to rank 'em. Topper's hat looks very nice I'd say. Green and red are complimentary, and I think the spikes look good on it. They also stack very well, apparently. The sheer amount of hats is why his fight is so difficult in the first place.)

Hariet:

Cuteness: 7 (She's got a poofy dress, a round bunny nose, and overall more petite features than the rest of the Broodals.)

Fashion sense: 9 (Purple looks good on her. It is a good compliment to her red eyes and yellowish hair. I also like the combination of the shiny dress and matte gloves. Everything fits together very nicely, in my opinion.)

Personality: 5 (I feel like Hariet's personality is the hardest to describe. This may be why everyone's interpretation of Hariet is so different. What I have gathered is that she is somewhat playful, and not very polite [she called Mario a chump lol]. She seems to also be kind of a maniac. Flinging bombs and cackling like a witch.)

Ass-kicking ability: 4 (Just run around in circles and you win. If you don't want to do that, then you can just smack the first bomb she throws right back at her. The hardest part about her fight is probably when you have to hit her when she's running around like a headless chicken.)

Voice: 5 (pretty good. Such a lovely laugh.)

Hat: 6 (Her little hat looks very cool. It's just a shame that she doesn't use it in her fight. Then again, It doesn't do much to protect her big melon head.)

Spewart:

Cuteness: 4 (Be honest, he's not that cute. He's a brute with crazy hair and hulk hands.)

Fashion sense: 7 (He's lookin' good, I'd say. Blue and gold is a good combo, and the scarf is a nice touch. The only thing I don't really like about it is the blue seems a bit too saturated.)

Personality: 10 (Honestly, Spewart is brimming with personality in the game. He seems like the loud and obnoxious jerk that thinks he's so cool. Constantly bragging about the Broodals' "achievements" and pretty much saying that he would beat up Mario. He's also the least polite of the Broodals [heck, even the guidebook says so]. "Wedding chow"? Who says that? Also, I believe he is the only Broodal that has words that are in all-caps in his dialogue.)

Ass-kicking ability: 2 (The easiest Broodal fight in the game [when talking about the Dark Side fights]. You don't even have to do anything fancy to move things along. Just jump on him lol.)

Voice: 7 ("HEE")

Hat: 3 (The "band" around his hat is too bulky, and looks stranger the longer I look at it. He also doesn't even use it at all in battle [other than some kind of helmet].

Rango:

Cuteness: 3 (He's not cute. His face is terrifying. Probably part of the reason why I liked him so much when I first saw him.)

Fashion sense: 2 (What is he even wearing. The only things keeping this from being a 1 is his bowtie, shirt, and fancy hair.)

Personality: 5 (Like Hariet, Rango's personality is a bit difficult to track. He does seem to be the most mellow of the Broodals, though. He doesn't want to do anything fancy, he just wants to get the job done. When he talks to Mario during the game, he just seems to state the facts without much flair. I'd also like to mention that he seems to be the one that is affected the most negatively by Bowser's failed wedding. He even tells Mario that he ruined everything for the Broodals.)

Ass-kicking ability: 6 (A moderately-difficult fight, for Broodal standards. I don't know what else to say.)

Voice: 9 (I really like his deep voice. It came as a surprise to me too. It also sounds goofy, which is fitting. Also, it never hurt my ears, so that's neat.)

Hat: 8 (It looks dumb, but it has a freakin' saw inside of it, AND it has a trampoline in there too. Very cool.)

Minor gold-panning moment when I found an earring left by my roommate's ex-girlfriend inside this beast after wrangling it. I miss her (scroll down for pic, don't worry, she did not get ate or die). She is a genuinely good person, and I'm surprised it wasn't her dumping him.

This is his house. He does not clean (he does a little, but, not as much as he should, he will let everything fall into disarray if you let him/idle). I clean his floors more regularly than he does. This is what happens if I don't do that for a bit. That's just the stairs to the second floor and the living room and kitchen. There's so much more to be found. But, this is all I'm taking time to do for now...and it needs to be mopped.

He has a dog. Said dog lays on the vents (kin). Fur everywhere (I too am hairy, I spoke to him about our shared trait, he pat the couch with his tail as he layed curled up on it, I love him and I ensure he knows that). On top of that, homeboy smokes indoors without cracking a window, and when he does crack a window, he still doesn't blow the smoke outside. It settles everywhere...like in the ventilation, I'm sure. This does not bode well for his dog either. I'm more worried for him than myself.

Not to mention roommate's in a union for scaffolding over at the plants, and has tracked plenty of that in here over time as indicated by all the light switches being grimy and such (also due to another labourer who formerly lived here, who was pretty dirty too, smoked up in the basement where there were no windows and where the furnace is, ffs, I should clean all the switches next, then the walls). Also, roommate lived in this house for years before I moved in, and he only changed the furnace filter for the first time a few months ago. So, no doubt loads more debris to come out of the ventilation.

I am allergic to dust mites, lol.

Anyway, were someone else to move in here, I'd heavily take it upon myself to help them make it more livable (as long as they weren't arrogant, degrading, and disrespectful). It's just discouraging taking on the ever piling list of things to do, as you keep up with your own responsibilities, when you're not even the homeowner and said owner lives on site.

Otherwise, it's a decent space to carve out your own little slice of heaven (of which gets interrupted by obnoxious profanity from roommate coming through the floor/walls at times, and creepy people who lurk outside the building, what else is new in this city these days, I really say "heaven" loosely), and I have certainly done that! Still a work in progress, of course. Floor, walls, ceiling, light switch, etc. all cleaned before moving in, and doing my best to keep it that way (not without some things laying around).

It's nice that my roommate lets me keep to myself too. Will even text me opposed to finding me in the house to talk - which would be fine if he did that. I figure he should do that a bit more as I'm typically the one seeking him out to initiate any sort of conversation. But, it's nice to just keep it simple via text and stay where I'm at in my cozy space. I appreciate that. He can be chaotic and stressful to be around at times anyway, so I prefer to avoid that. I'm gaslighting myself if I'm applying "heaven" to here. It's just my room that's really nice, and I've never had such a nice room, is what I mean.

So, things are coming along nicely for me in this room. I'm happy to have many things and also space to move around. Where as my room at my family home was tiiiinyyyy and keeping my life organized in such a small space while also having to get a goodnight's rest in it was a challenge. Not that new challenges haven't presented themselves here. But, at least there's more space for me, less people, and less dogs..unfortunately was not keen on living with two puppies right after my dad passed away and all. I certainly didn't sign up for it, and yet I was expected to have the energy for them, to watch over them all night almost every night since I was the one who had an irregular sleep schedule. So, also less unwanted expectations being imposed on me. I do love those dogs though. I'm just not a dog owner and I needed my peace.

Plenty other reasons to move out. But, that was one of them. I was not one to not support my family in abundance during the time we were grieving too, all the while working hard to stay focused on sorting out my own life too. I had to get out for myself, even though it wasn't desirable circumstances.

Some day, assuming I'm here long enough, this house will no longer be dilapidated...and maybe my roommate won't be so bad off too. Sucks seeing someone you grew up with since kindergarten turn out to be...like that (it's tough when I've developed actual hatred for him, but, also remember the parts of him that I appreciated before I discovered my hate for him). I hate to talk shit 'cause he means well for me, I figure, but, in meaning well you also gotta do more to back that up, not just the bare minimum.

MORE RANDOM THOUGHTS FROM FAUN because i was eating lunch and it hit me

so i'm watching this guy critique the fairly oddparents live action films. and i'm usually such a hater i love to complain about things, but movies are the one thing i rarely care about enough to critique. the ONLY movie i'll sit and happily critique is moana. (more on that another time, maybe.) otherwise, i watch movies, i like them well enough, and i move on with my life.

so this guy!!! is hardcore hating on the fairly oddparents live action movies. and i agree with a lot of his points, but still. i like the movies! they're silly! they don't take themselves seriously!! they're fun!!!

anyway this is absolutely why they cast the actors they did, but the main reason i liked the movies so much as a kid was because the main actors are very cute lol. i loved seeing drake bell and daniella monet in a movie together. daniella monet... is so pretty <33

that's the main reason i liked the movies growing up i think. they have this silly little romance going on. it's ridiculous. it's whimsical. and it's cute! the second movie starts with them in a flying van going around granting people's wishes. isn't that fun?!?! does that not sound like the dream??? and crocker is so silly and funny <3

i hate sitcoms yet i love!! stuff like this!! no obnoxious laugh track just everything being absolutely insane. similar vibes to big time rush which i also!! adore!! nothing makes sense but it doesn't have to make sense because it's so ridiculous and doesn't want you to take it seriously! there's no weird dissonance going on. it's all just fun!

also daniella monet is so pretty. again. that should be the main point of this post, i think. i realize now that i'm older how a lot of the kids movies i liked was because i just found one of the female characters very pretty khfkdhf sometimes one of the males, too. brown hair, my absolute beloved <333

but also now i'm realizing i love when media doesn't take itself seriously. so often, movies and tv try so hard to be serious that anything out of place is incredibly jarring. but these movies and big time rush were both things i loved!! because they didn't have any of those issues. even shows like icarly that were objectively silly felt like they were too grounded in reality where a lot of jokes felt too unbelievable. oh i just hate the sitcom style quips they drive me insane. so meanspirited and predictable and NOT funny. stop HAHAHAing at me! your jokes stink!!!!!

zoey 101 also was a show i loved. it was more grounded in reality and had silly jokes but they weren't so over the top that you failed to suspend your sense of belief.

i might get hate for this but imo the gays who go out of their way to be as loud and obnoxious and shocking and confusing to the straight eye as they possibly can are just as cringe as the assimilationist gays who think they're too good for gay culture and try so hard to prove they're The Same as straight people and Not Like Other Gays. because both types of gay people care so much what straight people think of them to the point when it defines who they are and how they present themselves, they just have a completely different approach to it. and i hate the pressure that both types have put on me to be a certain way (i need to be "less obviously gay" cos i'm making us all look bad VS i'm an assimilationist and i need to make a political statement of sorts with my presentation otherwise i'm failing the cause) like why can't i just do whatever tf i want and simply be myself and not have my existence weaponized either way lol. i love "boring" gays granted that's who they truly are and they're not just trying to prove a point to the straights because of internalized homophobia. i love "flamboyant" gays granted they're, again, authentic and not just obviously trying too hard to be ~weird~ and contrarian. and the truth is humans are more complex than that and we can't just categorize each other as either Boring Thus Assimilationist or Flamboyant Thus Making Us All Look Bad. for some things i fit the gay man stereotype (im pan anyway but you get it) and for others i don't and i'd bet thats the case for the vast majority of people in the community

Honestly, I don't have much new to say except that it's actually such a bummer to see a book I love this much be turned into not only a bad adaptation, but a bad show. If it made a lot of changes but was well-written and created, I'd get over it. One example of an adaptation of a book I enjoyed that was a bad adaptation but a good movie is A Simple Favor--it's really not all that much like the book and has a totally different ending, but tbh? The stylistic choices made it better. This can be done. Interview with the Vampire (the show) changed a lot of things about the source material--the time period, Louis and Claudia's race and origins, a lot about Daniel, the explicit sexuality and romance of Louis and Lestat's relationship--but it honestly, for the most part, elevated the story.

But this is like... legitimately a super weak show. I've actually never experienced this before lol. Most of the books I truly love love love don't get turned into shows or movies, and those that have I'm usually pretty happy with. This is new for me!

(Also, wasn't Nicky an Italian prince in the book? This is such a non-issue, but I feel like random Italian royalty~ is way more believable than random Irish royalty. For fuck's sake, a Borghese "prince" was on THE BACHELOR. Beverly d'Angelo was married to an Italian prince. They're not that hard to find. WHERE ARE THESE IRISH PRINCES??)

Special callouts for the latest batch include:

--the "I don't regret that dress", an objectively cool, punchy line that absolutely sums up Daisy's character--a woman who's lived hard and wild and is aware that she's messy and feels bad about some things but also objectively enjoys certain aspects of living hard and perhaps misses them--getting flipped into "I don't regret that day". LOL. WHAT WAS THE REASON. That's what I don't get about so many adaptational choices. There's no fucking reason. No reason at all. It really feels, sometimes, that they want Daisy to be more approachable and everygirl when the point of her appeal is that she isn't approachable and everygirl. You aren't supposed to identify with Daisy; you're supposed to admire her, want to be her, and then realize that there is a catch to being as cool as Daisy. You also have to commit to being as fucked as she is.

--Simone's queer disco queen subplot was legitimately one of the most interesting things the show has given (the song was one of the better ones too, even if the lyrics were... still rough....) but ultimately, she still exists to go save Daisy and that sucks. Honestly surprised the show didn't replace Simone going there with more DaisyBilly fanservice. There's a lot the show sort of skirted around about Simone wanting to be successful as easily as Daisy, a privileged white woman, could be; how much she wanted to be open with her own truly committed lesbian relationship the way Daisy could be about her fly by night straight marriage. But rather than delving deep, we have Daisy literally going "IT'S LIKE YOU'RE IN LOVE WITH ME OR SOMETHING" a la Regina George.

And if Daisy had been sympathetic versus obnoxious up until this moment, if we'd had real investment in that friendship, I think it could've read as a slap in the face. Like "oh wow, this woman who seems cool and chill and impossibly chic is actually a fucking messy drug addict who, like many addicts, says ridiculously gross, fucked up shit in a moment, she is cool and she is chic and she is talented but she has a serious ugly side", which is something I think... Let's give an example. A Star Is Born (2019)! Did well. Yeah, you could make jokes about Jackson Maine pissing his pants, but to ME, the moment that rang as "oh this is ugly, even though he's been so lovely otherwise" is when he, while shitfaced and jealous, calls his wife, who he knows is insecure about her looks, ugly to her face. While she's naked in front of him. That scene, after you watch how loving and tender he is, even while fucked up, reads as a harsh slap. It's very realistic, if you've been around people who are otherwise loving and amazing, who struggle with addiction. They do that shit. It hurts. It doesn't necessarily invalidate who they are when they're in better places; which makes it hurt more.

Daisy has been so fucking obnoxious when she's... Sober? High but reading sober because the show hasn't gone in on how much of an addict Daisy is and their version of "functional heavy drug user" is "basically sober, maybe a little stoned"? That this moment just read as more of Daisy being obnoxious. Plus, a lot of this agency is taken from Daisy's hands, and we're told that Nicky is manipulating her. The thing is that Nicky was a total symptom in the book--he was a symptom of Daisy's addiction issues, her mental health problems, and her damage with Billy. He was not a cause. He may not have encouraged her to get better, he may have sped up some escalation, but honestly? Daisy was already a pretty fucking messy person before marrying him. Daisy was already showing up high and drinking throughout the day. She handled it worse on the tour, but a lot of that was touring and having to be around Billy while being in love with him and rejected by him. The show, imo, has done such a poor job of portraying the extent of Daisy's issues that it feels like they suddenly RAMP UP in these episodes, when in fact Daisy had always been an addict with PROBLEMS PROBLEMS, which is! A huge reason! Why Billy can't be with her. The show boils a lot of that down to Camila v. Daisy, and while Billy's love for Camila (and his kids) was a major roadblock... It's possible that if Billy and Daisy had met while he was married to Camila but without the addiction issue in hand? Maybe things would've been different. I don't know. Maybe. But Billy also literally wanted to be alive and a present father, and he could've done that had he and Camila broken up, but he couldn't have done that had he relapsed.

--I found the "Daisy in the shower with Billy" scene so funny. It was just so... corny. Like, this literally reads as bad fanfic. Camila is shuttled off to the side, barely present and mostly dealing with a guy who she isn't into. Billy is holding Daisy and going "LOOK AT ME! LOOK AT ME! NOAH THIS ISN'T YOU". It's so unbelievably corny. Billy in the book would've been wrecked about Daisy almost dying and then sublimated that by keeping his distance and then showing up to be like ".... so was it worth it? Almost dying for a bump" and then they would've either been completely cold or had some massive blowup about a song.

Similarly, the way Billy and Daisy fight on this show is so contrived lmao. A lot of the way they fought in the book was similar to how they expressed their love; the love was conveyed in lyrics and performance. The anger was conveyed into conflict about the music, which the show sorta does but it also has them getting up in each other's face to scream about Nicky, and it seems like they are BEGGING you to believe in the chemistry and I.... don't.

--The downplaying of Camila is very sad, and I find it endlessly hilarious that the show is all "pat us on the back, we champion diversity by having Simone go from The Black Best Friend to The Black Best Friend with a Minor Subplot, also Billy's Latina wife is going to be more complacent and mostly just sad about his cheating and probably die sooner also".

Again I say, as Warren and Camila speak Spanish to each other and Eddie gives us his best Nice Guy... If we were going to give Camila full affair.............. why not have it be Warren......

--Karen just announcing her relationship with Graham, which was a full secret in the book even decades later, in order to prop up Graham's ego.................. truly wild. Lol so much of Karen on the show is about male ego, it's ridiculous.
