Pre-lockdown: I think itd be unique that if Sebastian was used to give humans gills then Phanny can be used to find immortality cuz who doesnt love when a corrupt corporate entity tries to find the cure for death, happens all the time lol. I believe because shes also able bodied (mostly) she would be given similar jobs as Sebastian so shes not depressed, rotting, or lashing out. Not sure if they'd work together but she's observant and being a psychologist, she def psychoanalyzing the hell outta everybody in the facility out of boredom. She seems happy but ofc its a coping mech to make the best out of the absolute horrors around her, still emotional unstable and freaks tf out frequently. Post lockdown she scavenges for data and whatever here and there but shes mostly left alone or out of most of his operation, yk,,,working with Mr Lopee and all. She really tries to get close with Sebastian (despite emphasizing hes a married man, YEAH SURE BUDDY YOU'RE LIKE 32, WHATEVER MAKES U FEEL BETTER💀) and being the drama fiend i am, i think having a "moment of weakness" would lead to their complex semi romantic possibly toxic dynamic.

Fight: And as i did my research its highly debatable if Sebastian is telling pAInter the truth about getting them both out. Phanny would believe this without question cuz if he can make a plan and has all these skills and resources, he should be able to take everyone (this also includes other peoples inserts and ocs who are experiments because it makes the setting more lively and interesting). I even thought of a cool ass line my homie thought was cold asf for argument dialogue between Phanny and Seb about taking everyone back up to the surface.

Just to summarize: Phanny mentions how noble Seb is after making progress with his escape plan, assuming that he'll take at least as many people as possible including Phanny. Sebastian at this point is already trying to push her away post weakness moment and he know damn well he's just doing this for himself and never accounted to leave w/ a whole damn facility of sentient experiments. He just wanna see his mom again and hes already working in private with Mr Lopee i mean this is a one man escape plan. This ofc shatters Phanny cuz from what hes saying, nobody and he mean NOBODY is getting out of here with him. Hes not a savior and hes not responsible for people he dont even know or fuck with like tf?? And Phannys like OKAY? Nobody's asking you to be JESUS but can you at least be Moses?? Ofc it ends in a big brawl, think Mark getting his shit rocked by his own dad (Omniman from invincible) and they just have this heartbreaking dialogue and they split ways.

Post fight + breakdown: After this, Phanny is basically losing it. I even have a vision for this if it was actually in game and she was an actual character with weight to the gameplay. Like crying and wailing in the vents and pipes, shit breaking, Phanny not being seen for a majority of the game until shes physically stopping u from going through doors and rushing the player. Not to kill them, she loves the expendables and protects them but if she really has to if it means Sebastian can get out/she gets to see another day then...

Plus i drew what that would look like in my last post where shes just standing in the dark in the corner blocking the door. Even if shes not blocking the door she's obviously going through something and can't be interacted with, she just follows the player with her eyes and breathes heavily. If its not that then shes crying by the the water and interacting with her gets the player a DEVIOUS side eye or no response.

Pre-breakdown + if she were actually in the game: I can't really explain why she would help the expendables WITHOUT knowing removing the crystal will indirectly end their lives, i actually havent evaluated that yet but shes friendly to expendables, takes free trade in exchange for shiny objects, and can be seen hanging out with or talking to Sebastian, or passing by in the water/halls. She's capable of killing the player entirely by accident due to her tentacles hanging from the ceiling which she chills in and dying to her makes her scream or apologize (before Sebastian says something snarky) since shes strictly against killing and never willing.

Announcing ur presence helps her know shes in the way. Typical interactive npc shenanigans. Maybe even saving expendables from certain attacks but these are rare interactions in the game. She's overall friendly and if she were real, she'd prolly be a fandom fave (ofc not on Sebastian's level, LETS BE HUMBLE YALL😭) because shes so polite and her tragedy comes near the end where the player isnt even aware of how she became hostile in just a few hours of the run. Her story would hardly happen in game and itd be one of those things a creator would have to mention outside of their game for fans to know abt yk?

Its typical for creators to just drop the craziest lore ever about a character but they're purposefully vague or literally like oh yeah time constraints so we scrapped it lol.

"Yeah, thankyou for being here for me Drew. Even if we had just met for a few months before this shit happened. I love you." Just then my eyes widen after I had realised I said those 3 words that I couldn't tell Drew before.

The car stops in the parking lot of he school,a huge screech could be heard. Just then I head Drew say "YOU LOVE ME?" he asks me smiling widely, I nod my head "Yes I love you Drew.." When you entered the protocol, you were nice to everyone. You wanted to make a good impression.

The agents who were social were properly introduced to you, while the others  who weren’t present were just given your files. They adored you.

Not everyone fell for that act though.

“Try not to piss yourself and run with your tail tucked between your legs while you’re here.”

Those were the very first cluster of words you’ve heard this asshole say to you.

First of the many.

Clearly he wasn’t fond of you. Mainly because he thinks the Protocol is overcrowded. Sometimes he’d pray to God Breach would be sent to wherever crevice of Sweden he’s from.

Seeing as that loud mouth is still alive, even Satan didn’t want him around, he thought.

He also didn’t like the idea of constantly having new agents to “get along with”, stretching that definition as thin as you can imagine.

As thin as his patience with the newbies.

He took the “I fight anybody, I fight everybody” too literally.

And alas, the hostility extended to you.

Yoru, was his name. Or at least you’ve heard. You were warned beforehand about him.

He was aggressive, sharp tongued and prickly, as Sage would say.

“Ah. You must be that Yoru guy then.” You stand firm, speaking monotone.

“It’s no surprise you know. I have a bit of a reputation, good or bad, decide when you eat dust during missions.”

He came up to you suddenly while you were taking in boxes for your room. Somehow you’d caught his attention with all the noise you’ve made.

Your first interaction with him was brief as he scoffed on his way back to wherever he was going.

Your blood simmered. You didn’t like his cocky attitude. What does he know? He wasn’t even present when you were in the training facilities, showing your moves for the familiarity of others.

To say that you got off on the wrong foot was an understatement.

Him being mean to you started off to be his petty protest at Brimstone for “constantly dragging in every single radiant he can pick off the streets.”

“We’ve got so many people here already, a few more and we’ll look like a clown car” He complained to Phoenix once.

Anytime you’d be in the same room, Yoru would either pretend you weren’t there (includes not valuing your opinions during discussions) or he’d find any chance he gets to berate you and take it.

“Try not to come back as a corpse” “That gun? Hoping that recoil sends you to space” “Go home new kid. Unless you wanna see me wipe the floor with everyone’s asses” were some of his favorite insults.

You shut up and ignored him most of the time, talking shit back only sometimes.

“Hey, at least I’m not tearing literal dimensional fabrics just so I can hide from my enemies, coward.”

He did not like it when you talked back. He didn’t like you, period.

Even in HQ, he’s butted heads with you. He can’t seem to shut up. It was starting to get boring, so you end up just giving him an unamused look most of the time.

“Yeah yeah eat shit,” you’d reply.

During battle, you both had a spat because Yoru was willing to chase down the enemy Breach while wounded, potentially leaving you and bleeding Raze to fend for yourselves. You stop him, knowing that the Breach had the advantage, but predicted that he would run away to his teammates to regroup. He curses at the you in Japanese, then yells “I had him! I had him and you let him escape!”

“You’d rather run off wounded to fill your ego than stay here and keep Raze safe while I finish the mission so we can go home? Are you nuts?!” You throw the defuse kit to the ground, shattering it.

“My ego?! Baka janai! Gunning them down is my job. You think we’re safe here while he regroups with intel of our location!?”

Thankfully the rest came. You were all safe now. But your bickering did not cease as you board the aircraft.

“The chopper was down before that could even happen. You jump in headfirst to every risk, minus the brain. If I hadn’t stopped you, you would’ve been dead by now.”

Yoru grabs you by the collar and growls. “Listen here, new kid. Fuzakeru na! Stay out of my way if you know what’s good for you.”

“Yeah? And what if I don’t?” You challenged, but Brimstone splits you up before it escalated.

“Enough. Both of you made a mistake. Yoru, you’re too consumed by bloodlust, you don’t think about anything else but hunting enemies down. That makes you a liability rather than an asset. You make impulsive decisions that could endanger others.

“And you. The reason why you were so worried about being in a vulnerable was because you left yourself in a visible position while defusing. It was good that you pulled Raze to a safe place but it’s not an excuse not to be aware of your surroundings.”

“Look old man, I know what I’m doing. It’s them you shou—” Yoru interjects but he is stopped. “Both of you are in suspension. No missions, no deployment, no leaving the HQ, not until further notice.”

Both of your jaws drop, and this time, it was your turn to speak. “But Sir I promise this won—” “I know this won’t happen again, rookie. That is what the suspension is for.”

The whole trip back to HQ, Yoru kept glaring at you unashamedly. And if looks could kill, your head would’ve been cleaved clean off your shoulders and tossed into another dimension.

What angered him most was your nonchalance. You were upset, but it didn’t show in your face. You simply held your wounded arm and looked away from him during the trip. You thought he was being an immature imbecile when he purposely bumped your shoulder harshly, whispering doke with so much poison in his voice as you left the chopper.

The staredown continued in the infirmary where you both sat across each other with a distance, sitting on the beds as you patched yourselves up. One consequence of that event was that Sage couldn’t heal you. You smirked at him. He was more wounded than you. Thankfully Brim was kind enough to let Sage stitch him up at least.

“Oh what I’d do to wipe that smile you’ve got on your face.”

“Charming. Imagine being that salty over someone who’s just happy they’re alive.”

He was doing a poor job patching himself up.

MAJOR SPOILERS FOR LEGO MONKIE KID SEASON 5

so I’ve finally finished watching all of lmk season 5, and…

…I WAS NOT PREPARED FOR THAT SHIT… 😭😭😭

LIKE- (starting w/ ep. 7 here since ep. 6 doesn’t have much happen in it iirc) we FINALLY get to learn what MK is/how he was created, LBD sorta shows up and the eye demon guy reveals to mk what all those visions meant(yk, mk literally sacrificing himself for the world n all), the show references wukong and macaque’s fight thingymajigy in jttw, then in ep. 8 mk can control the jade emperor’s power(or was that ep. 7? idrk man), the fuckin uh snake demon guy reveals the first two things i said to everybody else, but he also reveals/mk figures out that [snake guy] actually FREED MK FROM THE STONE WAAAAY EARLIER THAN NEEDED(snake guy also has some lore which kinda makes him interesting but that isn’t the point here)…

and in ep. 9, well- there’s no big lore drop except at the end, but so i’ll kinda summarize it instead. macaque first tries to stop mk from doin the whole sacrifice but fails, and eventually the others have to stop/stall snake guy while wukong tries to stop mk instead. he fails and mk encounters nuwa, who reveals the whole… “pillars in peril? pillars saved by mk? oh, well, that means the whole world has to start over cuz there are no more beings strong enough to handle the stones now, so the world’s gotta make new ones.” thing to him(which is the lore drop basically).

finally, in ep. 10, well(i shall also summarize this one)…

everyone thinks mk died(but macaque mutters “wukong”… 👀👀), meanwhile mk goes “NAH, IMMA DO MY OWN THING, ANS YOU CANT STOP ME!!!!!!!!” to nuwa basically, and comes out of the pillar alive. wukong catches mk when the latter starts to fall, so (mostly) everybody goes in for a group hug- but considering the world’s basically ending… they hold hands for the last time- and wukong is LEGIT ABOUT TO GET MACAQUE TO HOLD HIS HAND, WHEN FUCKIN SNAKE GUY INTERRUPTS THE MOMENT SJ2JZIWISIAOLAKAKAJQJSI LET THEM HAVE THEIR MOMENT SMH- …….oh right anyways. they(the others, not snake guy) decide to share the power of the stones with everyone due to mk convincing them of it, but then snake guy drags mk into the pillar- and they have a weird conversation that’s basically snake guy goin “…this has only just begun. good luck, kid. you’ll need it.” to mk and then literally pushing him off and back outta the pillar.

the last few minutes of the episode is basically the aftermath of that. people now have cool magic powers(nobody is gonna use em for bad, definitelyyyyy /hj /lh), flyingbark reference through a flying dog, and some of the monkie kids(everybody but the monkeys themselves basically) are just chillin n talkin. meanwhile, mk n wukong talk bout what’s gonna happen next or sum(can’t exactly remember what specifically, I just remember mk startin the convo like that) but when mk starts to cry wukong hugs him.

then, we get an outro-monologue thingy from tang- and what we see durin it is basically this;

1; macaque is in court with the ten kings(?)- his powers have been affected by snake guy.

2; pigsy n mk are just havin a nice time addin a new photo to the photo album.

3; nezha and his dad are helpin handlin stuff in the celestial realm,

4; finally, the monkie kids/mk’s crew + redson + the two monkeys are havin a lil celebration somewhere… but in the very end, macaque sees how mk’s staff is also affected by snake guy’s powers(?).

so like- YEAH, I WAS NOT PREPARED FOR THAT CLIFFHANGER. ……OR LEGIT ANYTHING THAT HAPPENED IN THE LATER HALF OF SEASON 5.

but it’s preeeeetty late for me rn and I cannot stay up(gotta wake up early tmr) today, so if I have anything else I wanna say I’ll probs just will do that in another post.

welcome back to florian comic reviews i guess? today we will be discussing the authority: the lost year.

i wanna preface that this time around for the review i'm including images so you can see exactly what i'm talking about.

what was my final thoughts about it? i believe it was 'yuck yuck yuck, what the fuck'. let me explain below about it with the warning that there will obviously be spoilers.

the authority: the lost year takes place during the worldstorm arc for wildstorm aka after the events of captain atom: armageddon.

it has the authority traveling through the bleed desperately trying to get back to their earth, seeing many alternate universes on the journey. for some reason like midway through giffen just stopped including rose tattoo in it.

the first two issues were written by grant morrison, set in the alternate universe that is ours. they're in a 'low energy' world but as it turns out, a cthulu like entity attached parasitic worm style is connected to every person are the reason for this. not even kidding.

their baby universe is also somehow missing? which they never explain how in the whole series.

a random english dude named ken is for some reason elevated to super duper high importance for a random oc, and he sacrifices himself trying to save his world but they just kill everybody because the worm thing.

parts that bothered me in it was the weird fucking dream ken had that he had sex with shen (no not kidding here) and also the fact that midnighter was 'surrogate father' while apollo was 'uncle apollo'. this is just to name a few of the problems from this arc.

this panel however, was hilarious. when your 6'5" husband looks itty bitty next to you.

next arc i refer to as the 'bleed invaders attack the carrier' arc. that's essentially what happens. weird creatures from the bleed attacks the carrier, which said creatures apparently are the ones who who lead the carrier's alien shiftship species to near extinction.

they try to have apollo get rid of them from the outside in his very cute space look but they get in and are quickly outnumbered.

the characters aren't portrayed in the worst way but not the best either? that's all i got. i thought habib with the hammer saying star trek references was adorable though.

since they're outnumbered and can't currently save the carrier, they leave the carrier in hopes of finding a baby universe to get them out of there since that could help them fight back.

here's space look apollo for y'all before the next arc.

then we get to the next arc. when i tell you that this story somehow progressively gets worse, i mean it!

this is the first one that has alternate universe authority. except in this one, they're referred to as 'absolute authority'.

before i get into the bad shit, this page. hawksmoor running in the background for his life like 'HELP HELP HELP, I'M IN FUCKING KANSAS!' is really funny to me.

apologies if it feels like i'm rushing, i'm trying to summarize each arc as quick as i can since there's so many.

other authority became the absolute authority and rules over everybody. there's no other teams on this world but somehow the first ever doctor is alive as is jenny sparks.

once they achieved this rule, tension began to rise. the doctor and angie fought over magic vs. science and everyone ends up taking sides. other doctor was also keeping it 1999 for 9 years which is why jenny sparks was still there. what really got the ball rolling was someone dying.

apollo died. not just died but he was assasinated supposedly by shen. midnighter shockingly never takes revenge over it, and it's really just thrown into people's faces, especially apollo.

apollo who was kidnapped at the start of this arc by the alternate universe's doctor, who is for some reason married to shen (who is heavily pregnant for literally no reason).

alternate doctor told that him that the version of him in this world was killed by shen. the doctor's plan was to keep him as a 'memento' for old times. not to worry though, midnighter and habib come to rescue him. which i'm quite frustrated by the damsel in distress scenario but at least our apollo wasn't killed.

i'm so sorry to shen for this arc and all the other arcs for how they treat you. alternate universe doctor kills alternate swift shortly before apollo got rescued because she was panicking over how seeing our apollo was for her since she killed that universe's apollo.

also, it's implied that that at least one or more alternate versions of the authority visited this alternate universe authority. this leads me to believe a high likelihood of death for these other versions of the authority (apollo and shen in particular).

after other doctor was sent to this universe's carrier when he fled during the rescue for apollo and was killed by other jack, the new year was finally rung in and jenny quantum urges an angry midnighter to 'find me, dad'.

habib disguises himself as alternate doctor to address the nation in hopes things will be better, but ends up triggering a bloodbath amongst the population.

it ends with our authority in an all out battle so they can storm the alternate universe carrier for their baby universe. possibly everybody on this earth dies but midnighter and baby jenny quantum, who he found.

also wanna state for the record that almost every panel apollo is on page is an ass shot of him. it at first thought reminded me of how huntress' first appearance in my tim reading list was treated, where any angle of helena was somehow an ass shot. or how modern dick grayson is treated. wildstorm apollo sexualization walked so dick grayson's sexualization could run i guess. ugh.

here's happy page before we move on because the jenny reunion with apollo made me so so happy.

also, i wanna state for the record that while the other midnighter never goes to avenge his apollo, our authority (especially midnighter and jenny) refused to give up looking for apollo when he was missing. even when other mid said not to, he refused to stop looking.

next one was actually not the worst one and was objectively funny. very sitcom esque and nobody dies in it. the giffen racism remains which i'll cast become trout on him later for it because fuck that guy.

with the baby universe in the carrier and the bleed invaders from one of the previous arcs all dead, they're cleaning up when they have jack check to see if it's their earth. it's not obviously.

the alternate authority shows up and after jack asks for help to get back home, they attack him due to distrust. distrust because they (alternate authority) dealt with past evil multiversal versions of themselves. the rest of our authority shows to help jack with fighting the other authority.

it vaguely reminded of how really old comic books were like since this alternate universe authority doesn't kill anybody and they schedule their fights with their villains on the calendar. i can't explain it any other way.

there's also midpollo. well, pre-midpollo. they're money scamming unreliable homophobic in the closet versions of apollo and midnighter but in the way that they're.. well, let me just show you.

they call eachother middy and polly and it's literally so cute how in denial they are. everyone on their team knows (except shen but it's really fucking racist the reason why).

when they reach a truce after fighting, the alternate universe authority's enemies show up, aka the league of nasty bastards. they team up to fight against these enemies and our authority is literally just using this to blow off steam due to the frustration of not finding home yet.

our authority eventually says fuck it and leaves without the help so they can look for a more competent version of themselves to help them get home. on the bright side, alternate universe apollo on last appearance sounded like he was gonna ask midnighter out so yippiee!

interestingly enough this arc told us that jenny quantum at this point is 10 years old (since it's 2010) and she states that 'i'm only 10 years old. i should be watching cartoons and having sleepovers' and 'okay, so i'm a lot more evolved than the average ten year old but i really wouldn't mind some downtime to just be.. well, as normal as an embodiment of the 21st century can be'.

she's expressing wanting to just be a kid here so it makes me even more excited for my future authority to dc transfer so these words of jenny quantum's can come true.

some bonus panels that i thought were silly and neat regarding how strong apollo is before we move on to the second to last arc.

this next arc our authority encounters a facist version of the authority in this alternate universe, who had rose tattoo's soldiers invaded and surrounded them on the carrier. they surrendered due to it being jenny's decision rather than fight and are imprisoned in an anarctic prison alongside all the other superpowered people who survived in this universe.

i wished to never see krigstein again but unfortunately, a flashback about him appears in this. when this world's authority took jenny quantum from krigstein, it upset things in the world since in this krigstein was considered a balance between all the governments and superhumans.

when alternate authority found out about this, they took out every government and became rulers of the world in only twenty four hours. engineer took technology, doctor aka jeroen took whatever, hawksmoor took cities, and the rest 'just took lives'.

all other superhumans went into hiding when they were taking over, but were either killed, dragged to the prison in antarctica, or the horrible third option with this alternate universe's doctor.

with other engineer's domain over technology, she put in nanite implant surveillance systems into every person. she had started this with the imprisoned superhumans.

guess what happens to this alternate apollo? he's the first to die again. jack is who killed him this time, after apollo was the first to question what they've done and their authority. that apollo was 'stepping out of line' and 'was taken down by the man apollo most trusted other than midnighter'.

it broke other jack so badly inside that he was the second or third to die, at his own hand. he never forgave himself for killing apollo. shen dying was second or third, by midnighter's hands. she just wanted out after seeing everything that was going on.

before i move on, i wanna state that it's said that two other versions of the authority encountered this facist alternate universe authority. one like ours possibly, and the other where they're essentially just like. earth-11 versions. it's implied none of these teams survived and i don't even wanna think about what jeroen was implied to do to some of the earth 11's other alternate universe authority team.

rose tattoo is present for this arc by the way as said further up, but only for the alternate universe version. when other midnighter permits our midnighter to begin a break out of the antarctic prison, he stands by and lets it happen. other rose tattoo kills the alternate midnighter version for this.

also, other midnighter for some horrible goddamn reason is a nazi so i'm not broken up too much about it. which is something in my personal opinion that midnighter would never do in any universe.

before i delve into even worse stuff, here's one of the panels in this arc that i found cute.

alternate universe jenny quantum is now officially an orphan and remarks as such which the angie says 'she has always been an orphan'. which is cold to say if you ask me.

after starting the massive break out of the superhuman prison, the authority meets up and discovers that habib was not held with them.

this is because jeroen is holding him captive and saying this other doctor is awful is putting it lightly. unfortunately, they demonize him for his drug addiction again but it's the whole making him a rapist that made me seriously go like 'what the fuck'. it's also stated that he killed anybody on this alternate earth that had the chance to become the doctor. which obviously includes this universe's habib.

the reason he grabbed our doctor to ask him to kill him. he knows that other authority will come to do it anyways and wants to die on his terms. however, habib refuses. it's during reminiscing that other doctor who tells us what happened to the rest of this alternate authority.

alternate engineer appears and kills jeroen, trying to kill habib. after apologizing, he asks the past iterations of doctors that he brought forth to hold her, other engineer either being killed or sent somewhere else. he's then sent to our carrier.

meanwhile, other rose tattoo is trying to get our authority's carrier under her thumb when shen and angie arrive to stop her. our engineer works on cleaning up the carrier while shen fights alternate rose tattoo, the end result being rose tattoo's death after angie sends her through door to the sun.

at roughly the same time, our jenny quantum, apollo, midnighter, and jack are helping the superhuman survivors fight rose tattoo's soldiers. during a break from the fighting, midnighter insists that they leave because it's not their fight and jenny argues with him that they can't. before anything else happens, swift drops the rest of the team in the carrier.

with enemy ships still around them, it's revealed that jenny already had a plan in motion to destroy said ships so they could leave. she merely wanted to argue so the superhumans they were helping would think they were heroes. apollo insists that 'we are heroes' to that, and i believe personally that he's insisting that jenny quantum as well as habib are heroes. however, less so for the rest of the team.

this arc ends with our authority teleporting away as the alternate universe jenny quantum cries on her carrier since she's the last one alive supposedly as the rest are dead and engineer is missing in action. she's looking at a picture of her apollo and midnighter's wedding and wearing apollo's shirt in her final appearance.

as for the very last arc, i'm showing the panel i like from it before i start talking. this arc had me very angry.

they've finally made it back to their earth, but not without wounds from seeing so many different versions of themselves end up as they did.

after it's assured it is their world, they all go different places to recuperate. shen and angie talk about everything they saw, where swift is worried about that what she saw she could become. engineer reassures her by bringing up her own alternate universe versions of herself and what they did.

doctor consults with the garden of ancestral memories and talks with jeroen, expressing a similar worry. that seeing the last universe's jeroen made him afraid he could go down a similar path. jeroen tells him it's based on the decisions he makes that will make him who he becomes. whether right of wrong decisions.

jack goes to new york city and talks to the city, reassuring that he'd never end up like the alternate versions of himself. that he'd never hurt any of them, that they weren't him.

it's the apollo and midnighter portion that pissed me off. apollo rightfully expresses concerns regarding that he is dead in every alternate universe while midnighter lives to become worse minus the 'horrible sitcom one'. for this, midnighter insults him over and over again saying he's stupid blond and even grabs him by the throat to choke him.

they have a somewhat better talk near the end and hug but it just didn't sit right with me after the previous panels. considering that it was an abusive response to conflict, which midnighter would never fucking do.

jenny quantum they for some reason let ruminate alone despite being literally ten years old, so she doesn't have anyone to talk to about it. not even her dads'. thanks, giffen.

it cuts to weeks later where they have their first conflict they're involved in. everyone is on the ground fighting minus jenny and doctor, who are still on the carrier.

seeing the screens and listening in to the fight, habib questions why they are still doing things how they do them after everything they saw, which jenny vehemently defends her actions. out of both wanting to help end the conflict the rest of the team is fighting and to avoid further arguing, jenny leaves the carrier.

she ends up confronting and killing the person that is the root cause of the conflict but not before a series of sexist things are said to her by a character written in a racist way. which again, fuck you giffen you fucking racist. i don't think turning you into a trout is good enough. you need to be turned into a sea snail.

by the way, this is the second time jenny quantum is shown killing someone in my authority reading list and it felt so wrong. it was extremely out of character for her, especially because she had no remorse over it.

and.. that's the end of the authority: the lost year. a shitshow snowball that kept rolling all the way to the end. i tried to summarize and explain as best as i can but there was so much so i apologize if it's a little messy.

guys..... I think it's time i start Michel posting... just a little. I want him to see the like, light of day now that i've finished part of his ref. he's literally my little guy he's been rotting my brain.

long story short about this guy, anyone remember Michel Verden, the "wolfman" character that went around the idv fandom a few years ago, rumored to be a scrapped character turned into norton but never really confirmed? this is him, but my take. at this point I have completely recrafted him, the only thing that remain in tact are his name and werewolf concept ^_^

i'm still working on his wolf form it's sketched out but i've been lazy and my ipad has been so buggy so it sits unlined, unloved, but trust me it's there!! just not ready for public yet!

he's a hunter. I decided against the whole identity switch concept because ultimately i think it would be way cooler if he had the two different forms as hunter, like say wu chang. my main concept is that in wolf form, he has WAY better chase and attcking game, but he can't chair survivors so he has to meticulously choose between which form to be in at any given time. he'd has some sort of bleeding out mechanic like percy, but not as fast as percy bc he still has the option to chair, but if you truly wanted, you could play completely chairless and it would be a valid strategy!

I wanna talk a little about him but uh im kinda shy idk >_< i'll just kinda summarize it no heavy detail!! basically he's from a rich family, his dad was an asshole who put the "family's good name" above all else while also being a shit person who fucks other's over for money. his family's estate was attacked, Michel was the one who took the fall. werewolf now. like i said really condescend and undetailed bc im sooo nervous about sharing and his overall detailef story has quite a many trigger warnings

Book club with Rogue, part 2

The book: The Pomegranate Gate by Ariel Kaplan

CW: the plot involves antisemitic persecution and violence, so I'm gonna be touching on that a bit in this post

I literally just finished this one last night and damn. damn. Okay. So, brief plot overview:

Our main characters are Toba Peres and Naftaly Cresques, two Jewish young adults living in the fictional city of Rimon. Toba was raised by her grandparents since her mother died giving birth to her and she's Weird. Naftaly is also Weird, and when his father dies shit gets even Weirder because Naftaly is entrusted with a book that's been in his family for generations but that they're never supposed to open. When the Jews are expelled from Rimon, Toba falls behind a group that's heading for the border and gets attacked by a man who believes she might be smuggling valuables with her. She escapes but gets lost in the woods and stumbles through a magical gate into another world. Toba's grandmother Elena realizes she's missing and doubles back to find her. She meets up with Naftaly and the nameless old woman he's traveling with and the three of them stick together for safety and begin their search for Toba. On the other side of the gate, Toba meets Barsilay, who doesn't particularly like her (don't worry, they become friends later), but offers her shelter with his uncle so she won't get killed for being a human who crossed the gate. Toba learns she's stuck there for a month because the gate only opens on the night of the full moon. While there, Toba learns that there's a reason for all her Weirdness: she's not actually completely human. Turns out her father was a Mazik (one of the magical beings who live on the other side of the gate) and she has supernatural abilities that her grandmother suppressed with an amulet that she told Toba never to take off.

I'm ending the plot overview there because I don't wanna give the whole thing away and also because so much happens in this book. It's nearly 600 pages long. There's a lot of plot. If I summarized it all, we'd be here all night.

Now, thoughts:

this book is so, so unapologetically, beautifully, proudly Jewish

like, I'm honestly having trouble putting into words just how Jewish this book is and how much it means to me, but I'm sure other Jews will get what I'm saying

like at the very beginning of the book there's a list of characters and just seeing so many extremely Jewish names in one book was like...relief

see also, in the first few pages of the book, when Toba is reflecting on how even when she was a small child her grandmother would play the 'where would you go if you had to flee?' game with her

Toba is extremely autistic coded and you may quote me on that

seriously, there's this one quote that's just very Autism Vibes: "It was one of the peculiar things about Toba, and there were several: Toba could walk, but she could not run; she could talk, but she could not shout; and she could write faster-with either hand-than she could speak."

see also: "She was too quiet, too peculiar" and "Food often tasted poorly to her, and she ate little as a consequence."

Like yes, all of this does end up being related to her magic and the suppression thereof, but it's also very Autism Vibes and even after the suppression of her magic stops there's a lot of Autism Vibes still.

like let's see (SPOILERS), his father dies, his entire community gets kicked out of the country, he almost gets eaten by wolves, he gets drugged and sealed in a coffin, almost gets thrown into the sea, gets kidnapped and tortured, and that's just the highlights of bad shit that happens to him (END SPOILERS)

they're only around for like a page and a half but heck yes Jewish pirates I am always here for Jewish pirates

I absolutely called the plot twist about (SPOILERS AGAIN) the Big Bad being Toba's father (END SPOILERS) which does not mean it was a bad twist, it was in fact a very good one and I'm always here for this specific type of twist

my one big complaint about this book is that after over 400 pages without a hint of romance, I got ambushed by some unnecessary romantic nonsense. luckily none of it took up too much focus in the story because more important stuff was happening.

this book was just so damn good, okay? I was hooked by page 4, that's how good it is, and in almost 600 pages it never got boring. it never felt like it was too long. that's skill, right there.

also I'm weak for good, complex fantasy worldbuilding and boy was there a lot of that.

anyway, it was good. go read it. highly recommend for people who like long, dense fantasy novels, and portal fantasy in particular (though I will say I normally don't even like portal fantasy but I loved this one)

hi again tumblr, please dont expect a whole lot from this blog, once again, but, i wanted to post like a little basic thing about this au i've had since 2021 now that i'm back into puyo again,

this is an au that Heavily relies on bits of fanon and headcanon to make it work cuz canon is puyo puyo is very fucking wishy washy but essentially, what if sig had checked out the tome of sealing from the library before klug was able to? (sorry if this is a bit scatterbrained, im not good at organizing my thoughts much,,)

so like, as the absolute fucking nerd i am, i made like an initial google doc on this thing outlining most of the shit im about to summarize here (that i might link if someone asks at some point i guess idk) as well as a fanfic, didnt finish that though, i got like through barely a chapter before i stopped and then i got into sam and max but that's unrelated to now

ANYWAYS, the au is as it sounds, sig goes to precise museum and, guided by the voice of the crimson soul, finds the tome of sealing and checks it out (much to akuma's chargin,,) and then he checks out the book again,,, and again,,,, and a gain,,,, (you see where this is going)

but uh, why is it called tomo au? see im being a little shitter here and i thought maybe the crimson soul's memory would be a little shot after spending ages in a book so they might not remember their name and sig is like "you're my friend now so i'm gonna call you friend/tomodachi" but then he's like "that's too long i'm gonna call you tomo instead" so they just go along with it, for future reference, anytime i mention the crimson soul i'm gonna be calling it Tomo

wow that's really fucking big sorry,

sig has an immense attachment to tomo from the get go btw, he's like, i wanna say like 8 or so when he first gets to the book, so besides the obvious literal halvsies soul connection there's that childhood connection as well,

side note: they can speak to each other cuz of that soul connection btw, it's my personal headcanon that after slug (canon strange klug/the crimson soul) can speak to anybody who they've possessed before as well as their other half, so in canon klug and sig can hear the book talk but in this au only sig can hear them

also, the reason why tomo doesn't attempt to take over sig right from the outset is A) they dunno where the unsealing objects are and B) sig is a child and uh, another part that i'm still trying to work the kinks through of is whether tomo decides to hold off on doing the fusion dance of their own volition or if because the cyan soul (which can speak to tomo, but only when sig is asleep cuz when sig is awake the cyan soul IS sig, nother headcanon sorry) decides it's too soon, they probably have memories of previous incarnations stored in there and know that eventually sig will start showing more demonic traits but not when he's baby

wow this is getting to be a lot but we're not even done cuz now i gotta talk about what this means about shit like fever 2 and such (y'know canon things and all)

so when sig starts showing signs of his heritage (i.e., a bit before fever 2 happens) tomo and sig start to hatch a plan to get tomo a body back! of course, tomo is omitting some things about how they're actually going to go into sig's body cuz at this point they've been together for a few years now and sig trusts tomo as like, a best friend i guess? something like that,

so sig is under the impression tomo is gonna be released and get their old body back and tomo is under the impression that as soon as the seal releases they'll enter sig's body, join back up with the cyan soul, and return to their original form,

so sig transfers over to amitie and klug's class, (tomo) overhears that lemres is coming into town with the items they need, and they steal the shit and head to the ruins to perform the unsealing

SPOILERS! shit goes wrong

ignore how shitty the ms paint art from a couple of years ago is, might change the hair to be more red in future art

for reasons (that i also need to workshop because to be honest originally it was a "whoever unseals it gets their soul swapped with whoever is trapped in the book" but like??? idk if that's how it should work when it comes to these two specifically), sig and tomo swap places instead of a fusion happening,

sucks balls for both of them cuz this is like the Last thing either of them wanted out of this tbh, sig obviously because well, trust got broken and ended up trapped til the artifacts are stolen (klug either swaps roles with amitie or sig, haven't figured that one out yet either) and tomo most certainly doesn't want sig trapped, as they wouldn't want anyone to experience the loneliness of being sealed away like they were (except klug, fuck klug specifically) (also the chronicles drama cd mentions that part of tomo's character in it so it works for my purposes)

this image wasn't necessarily specific to tomo au but i thought it would fit anyways, sorry it's a bit blurry my phone wouldnt focus on the damn thing properly

and after fever 2,,, i kind of dont have as clear of a story? or a plan? there's some tension between sig and tomo for at least a little while but sig eventually forgives them, as well i don't know how i would tackle something like sig's secret if at all?? but yeah that's the main shit to this au, sorry it's all so very long! this has been on my mind for a few weeks now and it was on my mind for months back in 2021, so i just have a lot i'm throwing out here into the wind, if you got this far: thanks so much for reading!

here's some bonus shit for getting to the end of the main shit:

tomo calls sig "little blue" sometimes, since he's yknow, younger than them and blue but calls the cyan soul their "other half"

if you couldn't tell from the first image, since sig has his bookbag, he carries tomo around in that, but if he's stopped somewhere he'll leave the book open next to him so tomo can see around (hard to see with the covers in the way)

sig was already probably ostricized for yknow, his autistic tendencies, the book did not help with that, but it gave him a trusted confidant :)

sig actually starts developing his demonic traits earlier than in canon due to his proximity to tomo, but not by much

klug has stolen the book before, both demon halves were not pleased with this and klug has not attempted to steal the book again

sig can supplement his own magic power with tomo's for an incredibly large boost, and tomo doesn't mind doing so, this gives sig almost the exact same amount of power as the full demon used to have and also changes his right eye to red

OH, both relevant to this au and my own interpretation: the full demon's name was wisteria, but neither sig nor tomo remember it until either are reminded of that

I am a broken creature & my heart has been thoroughly stomped into the ground.

This is....this is the best episode so far....but it's achieved the status of best by absolutely tearing me apart in every way & leaving my emotions as a pile of tear soaked dust.

Okay before we get to that: I have one thing to say....

GARNET HAS MASSIVE AND PLENTIFUL BALLS. Look this post ended up being a lot more personal & emotional than this blog usually has been so I'm giving you a balls joke to balance it out. I have a feeling that there will be more emotional venting if this episode is an indicator of what the rest of the show is like: we're gonna need all the dick & ball jokes we can muster up.

First off: easily the best musical number in the show so far. Yes even better than Pearl's solo number. And I do not say that lightly. That is a tough level to beat. And they did it. Steven & Amethyst take the gold medal for best song so far. 👌

ALSO OH MY GOD THESEE SHOTS THESE COLOURS THIS DJFJFNDIFJW ITS SO FUCKING GOOD????????

So getting a bit personal here: I have said many times throughout my life that 'I never asked to be born'. I still think it now.

Ive been depressed & passively suicidal for most of my life. I honestly cannot really recall a time where I didn't feel this way. I'm just kinda used to it by now I guess.

So to hear Amethyst say the exact same thing that I have said so many times before: That broke me. That just fucking broke me. And like it's not the first time I cried at this show so far: BUT this IS the first time the show genuinely struck an such an extremely difficult & personal chord with me, not just like being sometihng I relate to, but the chord it struck was deep & painful enough that I had to actually pause the episode because of how much I needed to process it. Like I could not pay attention with how bad it made me break. So yeah it's now score 1 for the amount of times this show has fucking utterly destroyed me. Not every show is able to get me to react like THAT. The only other show in recent memory that got that reaction out of me that I can remember at the time of typing this is well, The Owl House. To be fair I haven't watched too too many new shows but yeah. This got me crying badly enough that I had to take a moment to calm down. Wasn't expecting to have that nerve struck like that.

That just hit on a personal chord for me & just....fuck man. I know that feeling. And they nailed how it feels. Amethysts reaction was exactly how it feels for me, just outwardly anger & tears. It hurts. Obviously anger & crying is simplifying it a lot, it's a lot more than just baseline that but you get what I mean. You could tell that she was feeling that exact way. & holy shit the fact that she's been the "comedic relief" of the gems so far & yet she's had easily the most fucked up & sad backstory of the show so far. Yeah if catching me off guard & completely blindsiding me with this was the goal: Goal fucking achieved because that was like a whack to my fucking face with a frying pan.

So....like, is this gonna be a reoccuring thing? I just.....get the feeling that this is a sign that the show absolutely fucking me up emotionally may become a more frequent thing going forward. So like, if that is the case......fuck. I'm so fucked. I am going to be a fucking wreck by the end of this show. This is gonna fucking leave me a sobbing mess, isn't it? What the fuck have I gotten myself into-

I am afraid. Also I am going to need to buy more tissues.

And the scene where Pearl & Amethyst speak in the hole is some of the best writing in any CN show. Ever.

haven't had much to say about rubyfruit jungle so far, not because i haven't had any thoughts, but because i don't know how to put them down in any way that would make sense

i understand why it gained notoriety and why so many lesbians have loved it. the main character is completely unashamed, the book is unashamed about it's unashamed main character. life isn't great but she takes no shit, she accepts her losses and moves on. she's angry but that doesn't stop her. she fucks girls and boys and she hides it only because she knows she has to, and when it comes out she owns it completely. she is herself and refuses all labels and boxes anyone tries to shove her in

it took me a bit to get into still, which, to be fair, is true for most books i read. rarely do i truly like a book from the very beginning. but with this book it's a lot to do with the fact that those kinds of, i guess, "raw" honest depictions of life, as much as they may be true to many people's experiences, i just don't really like. sue me, i don't care for kids running around demanding a cent to see some kid's dick. kids will be kids, but i was never that kinda kid and i'd rather spend my time reading about other things

it picked up as she entered high school and made friends and then lost them and went to college. her drive has more punch behind it, probably because she's more grown up. the friends and lovers she makes are more interesting (sorry to leroy, you are a victim of society, but you were not the most compelling character), her ability to pick herself up after setbacks and preserve her pride more engaging

no doubt though, it is a very flawed book. i've seen some criticism of the main character being constantly portrayed as so much smarter, so much cleverer, so much more quick witted than the slow, dumb people around her. she can outplay and show up anyone. other than her dad, who encourages her to pursue the life she wants, she never learns anything from another person. she's always right, always smart, always ruthless and ambitious

there's also how characters talk about lesbians. lesbians are all ugly and wanna look like men, but our dear molly isn't like that. while she never accepts any label like dyke or queer or lesbian for her own, she doesn't shy away from the fact that she will be called does things. still, i don't like the book having this constant through line of how people view lesbians(read butches) but then just brushes it aside with, well, molly isn't like that. while i'm only around halfway through so i can't judge it fully by now, i don't expect that view of butches to be challenged. based on the criticism i rather expect it to be reinforced

still don't think i'm summarizing my thoughts properly here, but tldr: book not my thing to begin with but getting better

I'd like to see that it's insane I mean neurodivergent how they know each other better than anyone and are still stuck in the past. They're back at square 1 with never moving forward. (What's he gonna do when revenge goes through? Look at himself? no.)
