1. Your character is now the leader of their species, whatever that looks like for them (Arcane Councilmember, Imperator, Royalty, etc). How do they govern and what sorts of changes would they make if any?

Doss: Government subsided corpse donations (Government gives your next of kin money if they get to have your corpse) and complementary requisition system for necromancers and people who keep pet grubs.

Other Aki: He would find the quickest way to have someone replace him. That really isn't his thing. Not that he could ruin much, the way I think Norn run their society would simply mean people won't listen to him if he makes stupid decisions.

Aerana: Oh boy. Her dream come true. The entire asura society has now become her lab assistants. She has the wealth of rata sum to build, requisition and fabricate everything she ever needs in her studies. For the rest of Tyria she basically becomes Inquest 2 Quest Harder.

7. Do they have any skills or abilities that their class wouldn't normally have/just go about their class differently in some kind of way?

Doss (Harbinger Necro): The Flesh Wurm is now an animated arm. The Bone Fiends is tutle body, walking on skritt tails with two small arms holding guns sticking out the back. The Flesh Golem is a crocodile with Norn legs and arms. He can hold six weapons at once.

Other Aki (Elementalist): He can't actively do anything. He's just always warm when it's cold, and always cool when it's warm. Perfect cuddle temperature in any circumstance. He can walk on water if he doesn't think about it, but the moment he does it consciously he falls in. He can jump really far with wind assist.

Aerana (Tempest Elementalist): Aerana has a very low power past which she loses control and just blasts everything around her with lightning until she collapses from exhaustion and or knocks herself unconscious. And with low level of power I mean like, she can give you static shocks over a few meters, or heat a teapot. With the right focus a little more. But everything we see in the game as combat skills would be an instant air overcharge.

11. How accurate is their reputation/image compared to how they really are?

Doss is known as a good but not exceptional alchemist, whose work is interesting but nothing to write home about. He could be voted average citizen of the month if it weren't for the fact that the average citizen has at least four limbs less than him. This is entirely accurate. He is just some guy.

Other Aki: Known for being the best (or second best, depending on the week) friend one could have. Great hugger, great to hug, always down for adventure, but also always down to just sit down and hang out. This is accurate. He and his brother are indeed theatrically competing over who can be the bestest friend.

Aerana: Stylish, dangerously intelligent, easily distracted, slightly mad, ruthless, cold, and vengeful. The first three definitely, the latter three only to outsiders. The madness? Nobody knows, not even her.

2. How do they feel about norn society's expectations and traditions? Are they comfortable in norn society? Is there anything they wish was different?

They're ambitious and competitive party animals, so they fit in perfectly. They share a homestead somewhere north of Hoelbrak where they often host their friends and neighbors. Regular Aki is learning to be a Raven Shaman and Other Aki is working on adding a second house to their homestead.

10. Did anyone mentor them or did they learn things by themselves? Would they have wanted a teacher or a different one? Was there something they wished someone had taught them before they had to learn by themselves?

For all his faults (like giving them both the same) their dad Arkandrazkal Gnollson did teach them a bunch of important things. Hunting, Foraging, basic carpentry and he even made sure the boys had someone to teach them magic. In that regard they couldn't have asked for more, but the violent outbursts and being frequently left alone as kids hardly made that worth it.

14. Do they have any heirlooms? Are there legends behind them or do they only have sentimental value? Or did they earn/find someone else's?

Other Aki got his dad's bows, although he rarely uses them.

Regular Aki got their grandfather Gnoll the Mad's collection of Dwarven relics. According to legend Gnoll had one day while hunting encountered a particularly massive river drake. He chased after it, already dreaming of its head mounted above the hearth at his home. As he followed it up a creek he broke through the ground and fell into a dark dusty cavern. The creek had weathered away the rock ceiling of a Dwarven burial chamber and Gnoll's weight had been the final push needed to reveal it. He stayed trapped in that chamber for a week until rain started to fall and slowly filled the chamber. When he returned home starved and exhausted he carried with him the Dwarven treasure, but he was also a different man.

Boss fight for either or both : Voorp Jr (challenge mode!) or Aki Arkandrazkalkson ☺️

Vorpp is indeed a tough one. I feel like he would at most be an optional side fight in a dungeon/fractal setting. He'd be in a room drawing circles on the floor and there'd be some environmental storytelling things around. You'd get an achievement for it, like "Don't disturb my circles - Disrupt Vorpp Jr's summoning ritual" and that's the only reason anyone ever bothers to fight him. He'd fight with scourge skills but the sandshades are brand crystal purple and crackle with lightning. He isn't tough.

The Akis are a whole different calibre. They'd appear in the same wing as Captain Kryta (I've decided the Adventure group is a raid wing now) as the third of four encounters. They're your classic supporter and damage dealer dual boss. Regular Aki will freeze parts of the arena, summon waves that knock players around as well as provide buffs and healing to his brother. Other Aki radiates heat that deals more damage the closer players are to him and pulses burns. He deals more damage the lower his brothers hitpoints sink. If Other Aki's HP drops below certain threshholds Regular Aki will (if still alive) turn both of them to stone, which stuns both of them but significally boosts the strength of Other Aki's radiation AoE. Breaking their cc bar will revert them back to flesh.

So when Icebrood Saga started I wanted to write along with a few of my characters. It never really worked out, mostly because I chose a norn group and then IBS was less norn centered than it initially seemed. I have WIPs for the first three episodes + prolog, one of which I might actually post still. Anyways I have a lot of stored up thoughts that still want out so here is an incredibly random list of how my characters brood the ice.

Spoilers from here on obviously

The Adventuring Group (Aki, Aki, Era, Cap and guest adventurer Lorna) visit the legion rally at the blood citadel for a variety of reasons. (Party, expecting to meet Faladlain there, party, acquiring exclusive metal legion merch and also their uncle offered to take them there it's on his way)

Other Aki plans to get blackout drunk with his crush Braham, proceeds to get outperformed by Ryland. Next day learns of Brahams stolen bow and comes up with a new plan: Impress Braham by returning the bow!

They follow the trails of Bangar and Ryland into the mountains where a horrible blizzard prevents the group from trekking on. (except Other Aki who is angrily radiating heat, but he isn't angry enough to leave his friends behind)

Meanwhile mother of "a dragon that turned out quite well" Valoop is alternating between cursing Rytlock and Crecia until a strange message makes her take a chopper to bjora march

due to lacking a chopper, our adventurer have to find another way across the mountains. Thankfully there are quite a lot of caves and they find the way easily, though no one knows exactly how they knew where to look. It's almost as if someone whispered them the directions.

Valoop, while surveying the carnage at Jora's Keep, hears the first whispers of Jormag. She wishes she could bite thoughts. She whishes they would at least flat out lie. Valoop knows she and the others need rest, but she doesn't want to agree with Jormag.

the adventurers arrive in bjora march completely unaware of the vigil presence. Lorna spots svarnir and becomes angry. Other Aki thinks that Ryland wants to steal Brahams prophesied triumph over Jormag for the charr and gets even angrier, conveniently guarding the others against the regularly occuring snow storms. Regular Aki spots a raven shrine and is intrigued.

Reevus gets ordered back to the Ash Citadel and realises for the first time that, actually, he quite likes Divininity's Reach. He will spend the coming months mesmering his way through the ash legion barracks to find out possible spies. He absolutely hates the task, but appreciates the challenge.

Valoop finds Almorra. The fire in her eyes scares everyone in Jora's keep shitless for a few days. She enters the Raven Sanctum, recieves the Blessing of Daybreak and slays the Fraenir.

The adventurers visit the now Fraenir free Raven Sanctum, get separated for some one on one spirit guidance. Lorna learns how to accept help. Era learns about parenting. Other Aki learns that impressing your crush isn't the best motivation for and epic quest and changes from "Fuck that guy" (horny, Braham) to "Fuck that guy" (derogatory, Ryland). Cap learns nothing, he knows already possesses all knowledge necessary for heroism. Regular Aki gets the fast pass past the pitch black murder maze by being an almost Raven Shaman.

With hightened spirits and new knowledge they press onwards. They find still water speaking, and from there venture on to hunt the drakkar. Some of their ancestors knew Jora and Svarnir personally. It feels like avenging family. The Drakkar WIP I might actually finish and post so no detail here :P

Valoop and Braham cleanse the shrines, then arrive at the Drakkars lair to find the beast slain already. The whisper of Jormag reveals itself instead. Not posessing any kneecaps Valoop instead obliterates it with her spear. Skewered on her spear she contemplates how it might taste roasted over a fire. It would probably just melt she decides and gets rudely interrupted by and arrow in her side.

That's how far I've gotten so until I decide otherwise Valoops story progresses like in the game, with slightly more punching imperators and that she doesn't take Rytlock with her anywhere. She is thorouggly done with him. The world has progressed beyond the need of Rytlock.

9: their theme

Valoop: Race whose main point is being adorable stipped of all the adorableness. Resulting void filled with anger and sadness.

Regular Aki: What if me, but bigger and better at being a good friend

Other Aki: The typical norn takes sees everything as a challenge. So what if the challenge was to be a good friend. Also really big guy that runs shirtless through the snow.

15: how they react to a brainfreeze

Valoop: Used to swimming in cold water, slightly uncomfortable but gets over it quickly.

Regular Aki: Absolutely hates it. Refuses to continue eating whatever caused it.

Other Aki: Never had it, probably never will. He can't eat icecream or anything cold fast enough for it not to melt.

18: how they sleep

Valoop: More soundly than you'd expect. For how much her past haunts her thoughts every waking our she is strangly spared by nightmares. Absolutely heavently sleep if she can just hop in some water and drift around for a few hours.

Regular Aki: Cannot stand any source of light at all. Blinds have to be drawn shut, doors closed. He'd bury his face in a pillow too but he can't fall asleep if he's not on his back.

Other Aki: Always stays up longer than he intends and then half the time forgets to undress before hopping in bed. Moves a lot during sleep.

Faladlain for sure, he loves learning about the animals he walks past on his travels. Frigg would probably enjoy it too but he's a little too busy.

Other Aki belongs to the kind of people who remember their strength just moments before crushing your ribs. He's very easy with physical contact in general.

Regular Aki is a lot more varied on how he communicates affection. Though he is very comfortable with showing physical affection what he does even more are acts of service. He loves cooking for people for example.

Other Aki is an amazing storyteller, but he refuses to tell stories not from the perspective of a self insert. It's not even an idealised self, it has all the flaws that Other Aki is aware of he has. Every story he tells just happened to a fictional Other Aki.

Hmm, I don't think any of my characters are. They're all pretty happy and eager to talk to people. Vorpp or Elirea might make social interactions awkward for the other participants but they themselves are blissfully unaware of the discomfort they are causing.

21. Super shy

Valoop used to be very shy, but commandering beats that out of you very quickly. Other Aki is shy only around people he thinks are pretty (which are a plenty)

What are some of your characters favorite things to do to relax/spend their downtime on, maybe when they’re having a bad day or upset from something?

The Akis play tabletop rpgs if they have guests over for a longer period. Or they tell stories to each other, competing to create the best foreshadowed twist, punniest title or most gut-wrenching plot.

Elirea would climb some high place, usually somewhere in the lost precipice, and then sit up there, close her eyes and feel the wind in her hair. Maybe draw something. Or just let the time flow around her.

Lugard reads books when he has time off work. Mostly novels. His comfort story is tyrias version of pride and prejudice.

11: Is there anything about themself they are completely oblivious about but everyone else knows?

Regular Aki: Always downplays how strong he is because his closest references are Other Aki and Lorna, who are both exceptionally buff.

Other Aki: Not entirely oblivious, but he sometimes forgets how wide he is build. He’ll see two people standing a little bit apart and thinks that he can fit inbetween them but then just runs over both of them.

12: Do they befriend the ghosts wherever they go?

Regular Aki: Is careful around ghosts, only tries to start a conversation if he wants to know something from that specific ghost and only does so if other ways of research have given no result.

Other Aki: Is careful around ghosts, always tries to start conversations to hear their stories even if it is often fruitless and (in regular aki’s eyes unnecessarily) dangerous. Always ready to dispel ghosts if they turn violent.

15: If I gave them pen and paper and prompted them to write a poem, what would they write about (feel free to actually write that poem)?

Regular Aki: Loves forms of poems with strict rules like limmericks and bredliks. Tries to be smart and funny about his improv poem.

💐 Does your OC like flowers? What are their favourites? Do they keep a garden of some sort? What flowers would they use in a flower crown? (and if you like, research the meanings behind those flowers!)

Dak: He isn’t a very flowery person. I think he’d like poppies, because they are red (his favourite color) and not roses who have too much of a romantic connotation for him. He doesn’t keep a garden, would be hard for him anyways as he lives on a ship. For a flower crown he’d use daisies, simply because they are everywhere and have the best build for that sort of thing.

Regular Aki: He likes flowers, his favourite is Wolf’s Bane because it is pretty and also poisonous. He isn’t interested in poisoning anyone or anything, he just likes the concept of poisonous flowers. Pretty plant that will kill you, just like a nightmare courtier! He’d put a variety of flowers into a crown to have a pattern of colors.

💎 Does your OC collect anything? Is there a reason? When did they start and is it beginning to turn into a little bit of a hoarding issue? What do they do with their collection?

Dak: He doesn’t have a collection of a specific type of thing, but he does keep a lot of little things that have some story behind them. Feather of birds he kept, a tankard that won him a drinking match, a tooth he pounched out of a friends mouth. Just a few random bits. Sometimes he gives or throws them away so there is never a lot.

Other Aki: Other Aki just has to buy any and all bear figurines he comes across. A particularly problematic desire when I visits hoelbrak. His room at the Akis’ homestead has plenty of shelf space dedicated to bears. The reason isn’t a particularly strong devotion to bear, he just simply things small round things are cute.

Dak: Ohh a hard question. He’d like to forget the existance of his grandfather. Would make his life a lot simpler if he just would not remember that mans existance

Thank you for the question!

They’ve been pretty chill with each other all life long. There have been times where they didn’t really do anything together, but there was never a time where they were disliked each other enough to start a big fight. Of course there have been little things when one of them had a bad day, but they are both rather good at reading when someone else needs space.

I don’t really know it different from me and my sister. We are so tame my parents get asked how they managed to get us that way :D

And in general their childhood was pretty basic. Their dad is a bit of a weirdo, as evidenced by the fact he gave both his sons the same name, but it didn’t affect them much, as they got to hang out with the extended family a lot. Plenty of time with the more normal aunts and uncles and cousins. They still spend a lot of time with their cousin Lorna for instance. Favorite passtimes include playing fantasy games in the woods (regular aki was really good at making up new stories to play through), snowball fights (though other aki couldn’t make snowballs due to a severe case of magically warm hands, so he would change tactics to tackling people into snow banks) and roleplaying games at the hearth in the winter.

Lugard's favorite word is Mizzenmast. He doesn't know why. He isn't even big into ships. Maybe he just thinks it sounds funny.

Other Aki's favorite word is discombobulated. It's a word nobody expects to hear, it sounds like something an asura would say when they try to sound extra smart and it discombobulates everyone he says it to.

Pirate Dak has heard the story with the two philosophers and the plucked chicken and ever since "Featherless Biped" has been his go to insult to spur on his crew. It is completely irrelevant wether said crew is indeed featherless and/or bipedal.

I'll answer this for a few characters.

Valoop: There is not much positive motivation for Valoop. It mostly boils down to what causes the least amount of death. Her life is far from the happiest imaginable. The one thing that reliably gets her exited is learning new poems or songs from other quaggans. But then again it happens rarely, as most quaggans opinion of her is more in the range between suspicion and disgust.

Aki: Aki enjoys being around his friends. Seeing them smile is about the best thing that can happen in his day. He wants to be wise so he can help people and that desire is what motivates him most. It's why he is becoming a raven shaman.

Other Aki: Other Aki enjoys being around his friends. Seeing them smile is about the best thing that can happen in his day. He wants to be the best space heater and also strong so he can help people and that desire is what motivates him most. It's why he is running laps through snow covered woods in nothing but his pants. He also prides himself in being hotter* than his brother and making better puns.

Valyrion: Short answer is everything. Long answer is everything unnatural. He has spent hours in DR's sewers. He can talk four hours about bricks. Just regular ass clay bricks. Show him a pretty flower and he will recognize it as such, but show him a drawing of a pretty flower and he will not stop talking about ghe beauty of it until you make him. And there is something new and exciting behind every corner!
