It has 1 heavily reworked level from 32in24-10, two completely new levels, and a variety of modifications to the existing maps in the set, ranging from large additions to minor item tweaks. So it's not a huge update, but this is a nice definitive version of the mapset that feels more complete than the last one."

I did like 2 Boom format maps but i felt like doing a GZDoom map even with barely any UDMF knowledge.

Just to make something with MetaDoom, OTEX textures and (Not shown here) some fire traps from Realm667.

There's stuff i should know about UDMF but i felt like doing this still.

plot: the story starts in north caydor. kids from all different districts and ways of life are selected for a task force; to infiltrate a child-run crime syndicate and take it down. the task force is organised by the military, and is a top secret project.

these kids were selected due to being highly capable and having great skill sets. to find the kids, a competition began nationwide, inviting children (those under 24) to try for a place at 'highland excellence school'. the nation is facing a poverty and crime problem, and winning the competition guarantees a living place and future job prospects for family members.

the kids that win the competition are sent to do a year of formal training at a "world-class school". the school only has north caydor students (the civilisations prefer to keep to themselves).

the story starts at rika's first 'mission', where she is on an expedition with casimir, simon and posey to south caydor, representing the school at an aireverie-wide education meet. their goal is to keep up a cover, make friends with kids from the other nations and gather information.

So, more 2023 small releases, more excuses to keep playing Doom. How does this one fare? Really well, actually. I'm sure I would've loved it even more playing on say, Crispy Doom, but this map sufficed in GZDoom. It's non-linear, it's got pretty nifty usage of OTEX (a fan favorite), it's got difficulty settings, I mean - what else could you want?

All that aside, IRON does what it says on the tin. Good for a coffee break (or tea if that's your thing), took me about 12 minutes and that was with a bunch of hemming and hawing over which way to go. Secrets aren't that hard to find, layout is good, combat's good, I predict good things for jacnowak (the author of this WAD) in the future if they continue to keep making maps of this caliber.

Bio's verdict: 2023, the year of Scythe-likes and short maps in general. Appreciate it, at least it's not MyHouse.
