Yuuri On Ice (Mostly Viktuuri) Fic Recs

A historical au set in the Edo period of Japan. Yuuri is a high-ranking courtesan (basically a prostitute) that Viktor meets while on a political trip to Japan. Very well-written and beautifully traumatic. I am a massive sucker for well-written historical aus, and from what I can tell, it's pretty accurate, and even if it wasn't, it still makes you feel the absolute horror of Yuuri's situation. This fic will put you through the emotional fucking wringer, but the ending is well-worth it.

Take Strength by stammiviktor

A post-canon fic about Yuuri and Viktor adopting a son. Tooth-rottingly sweet and domestic. We desperately need more kidfics in this fandom.

Polyglot Variations by spoken

A sort of character-study of Viktor and his life examined through the lens of his multilingualism. This is legit one of my favorite fanfics ever. This is literally so good and realistic that it feels like canon. It should be. Just. Fucking read it.

hood & glove by Fahye and hawberries

Otayuri fantasy au, where Yuri is a fairy and needs Otabek's help with the plot. I love Otayuri, but most of the fics I find of them aren't really up to my tastes, but this is really good, even if it is short. Fantasy aus don't tend to be my cup of tea, but if you like fantasy aus, you'll like this one.

Some of the best fics in the yoi fandom are the ones that are both extremely fluffy and extremely smutty. This is one of them. Just a cute domestic fic about Viktor and Yuuri moving to Russia with a LOT of smut. Like, it's basically just 30k of well-written smut and couple bonding, and it's amazing.

Heavenly Pearl's Fic Review 2022 - Never Too Old

"Never Too Old" was the only fic I wrote for this year's Otayuri Week.

Summary: Yuri is thrown for a loop when his seventy-year-old grandfather unexpectedly announces he's dating someone new, but he's in for an even bigger shock when Grandpa's partner turns out to be someone he never expected.

Thoughts: This is the pseudo-sequel to "Welcome To The Family" that I mentioned earlier. I call it a pseudo-sequel because there's not a strong connection between the two stories, but I did include some subtle hints, like the coffee mugs, that were meant to imply that they took place in the same universe. I'm not sure how many people would pick up on that without me telling them, though! Anyway, while WTTF was about Otabek meeting Yuri's grandfather for the first time, NTO turns things around and has Nikolai introducing his new partner to Yuri and Otabek, who are now married with an adopted son. I regret a little glossing over the part where they actually get to know Vasya and mostly just summarizing, but the real heart of the story was Yuri's relationshiip with his grandfather (even though I wrote it for Otayuri Week… Oops? But Yuri and Otabek do get a fun scene to themselves which is probably my favorite part of the fic, so it still counts). I just love writing scenes involving the two of them! And I'm glad Nikolai finally felt safe enough to come out as bi after feeling the need to hide it for so many years.

(Y'all, I loved Vasya so much that I even decided to add him to my YOI Sims game! Look at these two cuties!)

HeavenlyPearl's Fic Review 2023 - #LionCub

And my last posted fic of the year was #LionCub, written for Otayuri Week.

Summary: After he and his husband, Otabek, secretly adopt a baby, Yuri wants to pick the perfect outfit for Lev’s official Instagram debut, introducing their new lion cub to the world.

Thoughts: Considering that I wasn't originally planning to write anything for the event this year and thus wrote this fic kinda last minute, I think it turned out okay. It's cute, and it was fun to write a little more about Lev, Yuri's and Otabek's adopted son originally introduced in Never Too Old. Yeah…that's pretty much all I have to say about it!
