Yeah I have thoughts. So many. This'll probably get long and repetitive.

I'm only on the ep with the beginning of Ace's arrival to Wano. I never realized he came to Wano before joining Whitebeard. I guess he got in a lot of shipwrecks.

I think this furthers my belief that when Ace said he died with no regrets, except for not seeing Luffy achieve his dream, it was a big fat lie. It was a lie meant to make it easier for Luffy to accept his death.

Ace made so many promises that he couldn't keep. It's so in their nature (ace and luffy and probably sabo too) to promise the world to anyone they find suffering. And so often, at least for Luffy because of that protagonist's halo, they are able to keep their promises.

But all 3 of them are so reckless with their lives – they don't fear death, but they also don't respect death, and they don't respect what death means for those they leave behind.

Each survived on luck and determination so many times, until for Ace, that wasn't enough. He left behind people he swore to be there for. Now, I don't think he actually stood there and weighed the consequences of turning around to fight Akainu, or that he connected that taking unnecessary risks could lead to him breaking promises.

But I do think it's fair to say that he never understood that his promises to just be there mattered to anyone. So of course can be reckless with his life and accept death with a smile, because death to him was just the ending of his own silly life. He never believed there'd be a little girl counting on his promise, using the weight of that to fill her stomach when there was no food. He never could have imagined himself being that important to anyone - not even Luffy.

It broke my heart to hear how casually and plainly Luffy told Otama of Ace's death.

"It's true. Ace is dead. It doesn't matter when or where she finds out. He's not coming back."

I know Luffy is the epitome of sunshine and looking forward, but it really felt like he said it in such an unemotional manner because that was the only way he could get the words out. If he'd allowed himself to break it to her slowly, or show an ounce of how much he missed Ace, he'd break down. He also hasn't told them yet that he's Ace's younger brother, maybe because that's also too hard to get out.

I love that Luffy is ultimately able to fulfill Ace's promises on Wano on his brother's behalf. And in a way Sabo is fulfilling Ace's broken promise to Luffy. And that's beautiful and tragic and underscores the importance of their brotherhood and the family they found.

But god is it hard to accept. I'm so used to One Piece showing me characters who do get their dreams fulfilled before death, who do manage to fulfill their own promises before death (or fulfill their promises at the cost of their lives), that a character leaving a trail of broken promises feels so false...

And I'm sorry, but to me "carrying the will of Ace" forward feels like a poor substitute for the character themselves. After all, Ace was his own person with his own dreams outside of either of his brothers. As much as they fight for what they know he cared about, neither can live his dream for him.

I'm really interested to see how Ace meets Yamato and also what causes him to leave Wano and promise to come back. Obviously he was not remotely strong enough to fight Kaido at that time. Did he plan to come back once he got stronger too? With Whitebeard's fleet backing him up?

Hey, trans Ace headcanons anon here.

I have a few more that I forgot to include that I wanted to share:

• Upon transitioning, Ace just took all of his old girly clothes and toys and instead of throwing them away he just kept them all stuffed in boxes in the attic. He gave them all to Otama when he met her, because he knew she didn't have many belongings.

• When it came to naming himself, Ace just asked Garp what name his mom woukd have given him if he had been born a boy. And thats how Portgas D. Ace was born.

• The only person who learned about Ace being trans a lot after than the others was Uta. She knew him during her childhood because Luffy was her friend, but they weren't partuculary close since their personalities clashed and they would fight at times, and before Ace could have said anything to her she had already been taken away by Shanks.

• He sometimes wonders how his mother would have reacted his she had still been alive. He is reminded how great of a person she was and how supportive she would have been everytime.

• If Sabo THINKS you are transphobic, then you are gonna be 6 feet under in less time than it takes Luffy to finish his meals. (The same goes for Doflamingo cause I headcanon Rosi as transmasc too. He may be a psicopath but he's not transphobic)

Also I wanted to add a few trans Robin and trans Franky headcanons because I also have a Frobin heart and to me they are the ultimate T4T and Bi4Bi:

• Robin came out in her mid teens. Her mother and professor Clover were very supportive but since they got killed by the goverment they died of old age when she was 19, she had no one to turn to for support.

• People already disliked her because of the rumors that her family was anti goverment and stuff, so her also being trans motivated other people into being against her.

• She met Crocodile and Bon Clay at a pride event. I think Baroque Works is just an undercover mafia like organization Crocodile used to run, and Robin had no other place to go to.

• This was until she met Franky, and he had way more confidence than her because he was lucky enough to have such a great family.

• He was still girl presenting when his bio parents abbandoned him. He came out after Tom had adopted him. And we all know he was the best trans ally in this world.

• Franky quite literally gave himself top surgery with Iceburg being the only person who was supervising him (but he wasn't allowed to do anything) and luckyli Franky only lost 1 nipple! He also mixes his T shots in his cola.

• "Your existence is not a sin" takes a whole new meaning.

• Spandam is a transphobe so he gets his face mauled, his spine broken, they fire him from his position and Brook writes a diss track about him.

Ace giving his old clothes to Tama and naming himself after what his mom would've liked is just so so sweet. And yeah, I agree on Sabo murdering transphobes. If there's ANY possibility of somebody not accepting his brother he's gonna go insane. Good for him. And the whole Frobin T4T thing is SO real to me. Robin being called a monster for her identity but actually finding a place to belong in Baroque Works because they might be a mafia but they're all trans-- And then she meets Franky and he's so so sweet and accepting and so proud of his own identity too that she can't help but feel extremely free around him <3

Heart Fulfiller.

So, from the previous post I’ll express my excitement about chapter 996! I must state that I haven’t caught up with the manga (and idk still don’t want to) but this chapter is really exceptional.......... so okay, this post consist of chapter 996′s panels which make me so genuinely happy, of course through my personal preference and view, very subjective, I know. lol.

To be very honest, I don’t know the detail of conflict happening in Onigashima, but on my knowledge (just based on tumblr dashboard and twitter timeline lol) the condition is heating up and somehow it looked like a battlefield.

Is Luffy being immature in his actions against Kaido?

So over the weekend I received an ask in my inbox asking me if I believed Luffy was acting immature in how he’s dealing with Kaido. Originally I was going to address it in my chapter recap, but since there were a lot of manga caps to post in addition to my other thoughts, I decided it would be best to make a separate post. 

To summarize, no, I don’t think Luffy is acting immature, even though yes, he is acting emotionally. So let me break down the difference and explain as best I can why I believe Luffy was put into a situation where ultimately, he had no choice but to attack Kaido.

Kaido’s first appearance is over the village that Luffy just finished bringing food to and liberating. He asks for the children. As soon as Luffy sees where Kaido is, he takes off running. He isn’t going off to fight Kaido because “I see a strong guy therefore I must fight him!” Luffy isn’t Goku, lol. In this instance, Luffy understands that if Kaido shows up to this town, people will probably die. His primary concern is the safety and welfare of the townspeople.

Luffy’s actions in bringing food have caused the town to receive a lot of attention and it definitely jeopardizes “the plan”. If you really wanted to, I suppose you could argue that Luffy shouldn’t have brought food for people in the first place. The problem with that argument is, Oda showed us a woman who was just about to kill herself while holding her baby because they were so hungry.

Saving the town from starvation was the right thing to do. Oda makes it clear for us by showing just how desperate the town was. But just because it was the right thing to do, doesn’t mean it won’t have negative effects. That’s the way the real world works. Helping people is messy. It’s why a lot of people don’t offer help to others.

For Law, who is constantly trying to stop Luffy from doing something that could cause attention, the plan always comes first. Luffy is the hero, whereas Law is not. Law is a neutral party. It’s not that Law is averse to helping people, but only when the situation allows it and there’s minimal risk. It’s easy for him to think “logically”, because quite frankly, he doesn’t care all that much for people outside his small circle.

So in the middle of Luffy running to check on the townspeople Kaido blows up Oden castle in a completely unrelated incident. And from Luffy’s perspective, he doesn’t know if his crew and allies are unhurt. To stop Kaido, Luffy gets in a good punch and turns around to run the other way towards the castle. And here he finds Horselina who delivers some terrible news.

From our perspective we obviously know Otama isn’t dead. This is Oda we’re talking about. Out of the 950+ named characters in this manga, we can count the ones that have actually died on one hand. Oda doesn’t kill people. He’s certainly not going to kill a little girl. But from Luffy’s perspective, he thinks Otama is dead. Luffy knows the pain of failing to protect someone he loves. It’s a huge reason for his shift in character post time skip.

He’s pissed. Of course he’s pissed! So are his emotions dictating his actions here? Yeah, a bit. It doesn’t mean he’s being immature though. Luffy has two sound reasons as to why he should try and fight Kaido now. When I was reading the chapter, I thought of these reasons before Luffy even voiced them. But he does voice them which is important. It shows us that even while being upset, he’s thinking clearly. He’s not as brash as he used to be.

The first reason is, they have no idea if their friends are seriously injured or worse. The plan might be completely foiled anyway. There’s no way to verify until its too late because the window of opportunity here is so small. The second reason is, if Luffy wins now, it’s over. The country of Wano doesn’t have to suffer anymore.

Kaido is drunk. I think from Luffy’s perspective it means he has to at least try. No matter how “mature” he gets, Luffy will never let innocent people get hurt if he can help it. I certainly hope that’s a character trait he never grows out of. Remember that speech he makes to Doflamingo?

“If only you guys hadn’t come here, Dressrosa could’ve been peaceful!”

“Cut the crap! It was only on the surface! You made my friends cry and made my crew-mates mad! But you still haven’t fallen so I will take everything on myself! I won’t let anybody die!”

It’s the exact same situation. To walk away from Kaido at this point would be contrary to Luffy’s character. Stick any other shonen protagonist in this situation and they would all be going after Kaido. That’s what heroes do. They try to protect what’s important to them, even if they aren’t strong enough. 

Luffy is quite capable of following a plan. He did in WCI just fine. It’s just that for Luffy and his fellow shonen heroes, saving lives > the plan. That’s why we love them. And ultimately, that’s why everybody around them loves them too.
