*NSYNC - Bye Bye Bye (Osmosis Jones Vs. The Future)
This is the official song they heard when they first screened Osmosis Jones Vs. The Future to celebrate Juneteenth. Actually, I was very shocked when I found out this song was from Deadpool and Wolverine. I meam, the movie is rated R, and I feel like this song definitely shouldn't be featured in an R-rated movie since it's more of a teen pop song.

Bionicle is good because instead of in, like, Osmosis Jones, or Cells at Work, which ask the question "what if there was a bunch of tiny people inside you," Christian Faber instead pondered "what if I was, like, REALLY big"

So hopefully some of you remember this post from a month ago?
Unfortunately, the business was recently attacked and had their windows smashed out, and are temporarily closed while they assess the full extent of damages
If you could please consider donating to them to help with the repair costs, it would be amazing. Some people have reported the Venmo account doesn't seem to work properly, but here is a direct link just in case

*SPOILER WARNING!*
*SPOILERS FOR KIRBY: THE FORGOTTEN LAND BELOW*
Detective Kirby: Nothing prepared me.
What even.???!
So here is ID-F86. No, we are not related. The other "half" was Elfilin the whole time! And that's who the main target was in all of this.
When I encountered Leongar, I really didn't know what to think. I was trying to remember if I'd seen any evidence that the inhabitants of this land HAD been human before I automatically assumed he was with the Beast Pack. Come to find out, this lion is the leader of the Beast Pack and is loyal to ID-F86 (or as he called it-- "The Great One.")

Detective Kirby: Okay, time to address something that's hard to ignore but never explained:
The mysterious vortices collectively known as treasure road all seem to show us going deeper and deeper into ID-F86... Osmosis Jones style.
NATURAL PLAINS to EVERBAY COAST
At first, the only biological hint seems to be the railing which resembles a molecular structure. There is also a similarity in the wavy lines of the background to the markings leading from the rim of ID-F86's ears to his brow.

*SPOILERS FOR KIRBY: THE FORGOTTEN LAND BELOW*
Detective Kirby: I am definitely in an "out of the frying pan into the oven" situation now.
So are the baddies below. I guess they didn't read the "Biological Hazard" sign behind them.
The all consuming ID-F86 wasted no time making itself a gelatinous lump and springing on the beast pack.

At the exit of the Alivel Mall I finally found a version of this desserts poster that was large enough and dark enough (SO BRIGHT and PASTEL OMG) that decoding it seemed a reasonable task.
I transferred the image to my phone to make it even darker. This poster frickin glows.

Winter 2021 Anime Worth Watching!
Since 2020 basically sacrificed itself to give us the most stacked anime season of all time, I’m currently buried under the weight of almost 20 shows airing per week. So for anyone who’s looking for some anime to watch this winter, here’s some first impressions! I’m speed running my list this time by only talking about the new shows...because otherwise this would be my great American novel.
If anyone’s interested, I have master lists for both 2020 anime and 2019 anime, because there’s no shortage of fun things to find.
New Shows!
And before anyone asks, So I’m A Spider, So What? isn’t on here, because CG spiders freak me out.
Cells At Work Code Black: This...less comedic spin off of Cells At Work (made by a different studio) takes the wholesome concept of Osmosis Jones meets cute anime girls and turns it on its head. In this much more depressing version, we follow a rookie red blood cell who works in the body of an overly stressed, alcoholic smoker who puts every strain on the body imaginable. I love Red Blood Cell AA2153 and his co-workers, but man am I glad we get the regular Cells At Work airing this season too, because I need something fun and uplifting after seeing my sweet son go through hell every episode.
*Heaven’s Design Team: Have you ever wondered how God came up with some of the weird ass animals that live on this planet? Like, what’s the deal with giraffes? And why can’t we have dragons and flying horses? Well this is a comedy about the engineers and designers in heaven creating the new animals that are going to inhabit the Earth. That’s it, that’s the show. It’s kind of in the same vein as Cells At Work, having comedy blend with a surprising amount of educational information. If you want something light and funny, this is the show for you (though I don’t think it needs to have full length episodes). I’m just hoping there’s an episode about how the hell the platypus was created. Also it’s the only new one available on Crunchyroll.
Horimiya: A romantic comedy about a girl named Hori who fits the image of a perfect queen bee and a quiet bespectacled boy named Miyamura who never makes an impression at school. When the two meet by chance outside of the classroom, we see that Hori is practically raising a younger brother by herself, and Miyamura is actually a sweet guy who happens to be covered in tattoos and piercings. This show is an exercise in breaking down the images people have of others in their minds, and it’s a concept that really hits home in a fun and meaningful way. Honestly, this has become one of my immediate favorites. The characters have great chemistry, and I can’t wait to see more of them!
Monster Incidents (Kemono Jihen): When big shot Tokyo detective Inugami is called to a rural town to investigate a series of strange animal deaths, he finds a mysterious boy with the nickname Dorotabo who has been shunned by the other children in town. As the detective gets closer to Dorotabo, he discovers that there may be more...inhuman secrets to the boy than he realizes...and Dorotabo discovers that Inugami has some secrets of his own. This is a hard show to sell without spoiling the first episode, but it had twists and turns that kept me engaged from start to finish. I’m really interested to see where the plot goes, because I thought this was going to be something totally different just from the PV and series summary. If it plays its cards right, this could be a great paranormal detective show!
Wonder Egg Priority: A psychological drama about a girl named Ai who starts having dreams about a mysterious egg that promises to give her what she wants most in the world...a true friend. Before long, she begins to see how the dream world and reality are tied together, and trippy antics ensue. It’s hard to say more without spoiling anything, but I had to go back and add this one in because I made the mistake of thinking it was an OVA when it’s actually a full series. And what a series it’s starting out to be. This anime has all the psychological discomfort of a Satoshi Kon product with the beauty and style of something from Kyoani (even though it’s made by Clover Works). It’s really one of those anime you just have to see to understand.
Sk8-∞ (Skate the infinity): An original skateboarding anime from Bones, featuring a typical sports anime protagonist who takes a new transfer student who has never skateboarded in his life under his wing. Together they compete in dangerous races and take the skating community by storm. The character designs rival Appare Ranman’s in outlandish creativity, and I can smell the main characters’ ship dynamic a mile away (considering they’re exactly the same as the protagonists from Robihachi). If you’re looking for some wild and crazy fun with top notch skateboarding animation, don’t skip this!
2.43: Seiin Koukou Danshi Volley-bu (Seiin High School Boys Volleyball Club): Yes, it’s another volleyball anime. And no, it’s not just a clone of Haikyu. This story follows Yuni Kuroba, a physically built but emotionally weak teenager who finds out his childhood friend Hajime is moving back to their hometown for high school. Yuni discovers Hajime has become an exceptional volleyball player and they join their school’s volleyball club hoping to turn the unknown team into a rising star. If anything, this anime is much more like Stars Align or Free, where the sport is a backdrop for letting the characters explore their personal problems. Or at least it seems that way after the first episode. I went into this show ready to throw it in the trash because how could anything compete against my beloved Haikyu, but I found myself really enjoying the dynamics of the main duo and I’m curious to see what the rest of the team is like.
And speaking of sports anime rip-offs…..I can’t believe I’m including this but…
Skate Leading Stars: The show where the animators clearly wanted to design another throw away idol anime but saw how popular Yuri On Ice was so they decided to make whatever the hell this show is instead. It revolves around a fictional team sport called skate leading, and we follow the world’s most insufferable main character, a former figure skater named Kensei who wants to return to the ice and join his school’s skate leading team after he finds out his childhood rival is going to compete in the sport. Look, this show is just trashy enough to get a certain type of audience hooked, and it mainly has to do with the best boy of the winter season, Hayato Sasugai, the aspiring team “coach” who pulled most of us into watching this show with his punk appearance, snide comments and smug personality. He’s basically the lovechild of Izaya Orihara and Shizuo Heiwajima in a high school sports anime setting. The show treats itself with the perfect amount of sincerity to get away with being absolutely ridiculous most of the time without making you feel like you’re watching it from a dumpster...like Try Knights. You will know after one episode whether this show is for you. All I can say is, Hayato is worth the watch, and I haven’t seen any 3D animation used for the skating scenes (yet) so that’s a win for me.
Honorable mention:
Jobless Reincarnation ( Mushoku Tensei): Yet another isekai where the main character is hit by a car (big surprise) and gets reincarnated into a fantasy world...but he happens to remember his previous life and narrates himself growing up as a jaded adult. I’m only including this because it looked amazing animation wise, and I love the opening where getting hit by a car and dying is actually traumatic. And I love the protagonist’s parents (who are retired adventurers who just want to bang all the time). But honestly...the main character is the fucking worst, and I don’t know if I want to keep watching it because of how creepy and weird he is. Like...he’s the hit on your fantasy mom as a baby kind of creepy and weird. But for anyone who wants a cool looking isekai that had an amazing PV, it’s worth checking out.
Continuing Series!
Because the real gold of the season is in all the established anime getting their next seasons, I’m just going to list some of the things that are also amazing and definitely worth checking out if you haven’t already (because I’ve already talked about most of them at some point and don’t know what else to say).
Attack On Titan season 4
The Promised Neverland season 2
Beastars season 2
Log Horizon season 3
That Time I Got Reincarnated as a Slime season 2
Re: Zero season 2 (second cour)
Dr. Stone season 2
Cells at Work season 2
Osomatsu-san season 3 (second cour)
Higurashi New (second cour)
Jujutsu Kaisen (second cour)
Not to mention all the shows I don’t watch that everyone else loves...like World Trigger (which I have seen quite a bit of, but long shounen shows are too much for me now) Quintessential Quintuplets, and Non Non Biyori.
So there’s just some of all the anime airing this season. Hopefully, someone can find something they like. Here’s to a great year...well, of anime at least...

My top 5 ships + top 5 facts about them
1. Hollina (Holli Would from "Cool world" and Thumbelina from "Thumbelina")
- When I first started shipping them
September 2016
- What my first video was with them
Stealing kisses
- What the main reason I ship them is
Sweet, innocent and fluffy versus badass, cynical and sexy
- A fanfic idea I have with them
A Shrek-inspired fairytale with Holli being a witch and Lina being a princess
- My favorite video with them
I won't say I'm in love
2. Bakerhood (Robin Hood from "Robin Hood" and Basil Baker from "The great mouse detective")
- When I first started shipping them
Somewhere in 2015
- What my first video was with them
Chasing relentlessly
- What the main reason I ship them is
The dynamic of an energetic, idealistic outlaw and a cynical, calculating detective
- A fanfic idea I have with them
Robin seeks the help of Basil Baker, a famous detective, to help him find Lady Marion, his childhood sweetheart, who has disappeared out of nowhere. During the investigation, Robin and Basil fall for each other
- My favorite video with them
Chasing relentlessly
3. Thraxette (Odette from "The Swan Princess" and Thrax from "Osmosis Jones")
- When I first started shipping them
February 2021
- What my first video was with them
PAINKILLER
- What the main reason I ship them is
I've always been intrigued by stories where a person is heavily obsessed with someone else, it makes for an intriguing story, and having Thrax being utterly obsessed and devoted to Odette to the point of killing anyone who even thinks about hurting her is interesting to me
- A fanfic idea I have with them
Pretty much the plot for "Painkiller". But the title would be "Guardian demon" instead and probably get a lot of inspiration from Ichigo and Kisshu from Tokyo Mew Mew.
- My favorite video with them
(I've only made PAINKILLER so far... Dx)
4. Fresme (Frollo and Esmeralda from "The Hunchback of Notre Dame")
- When I first started shipping them
Somewhere during 2012
- What my first video was with them
Bad boy with a tainted heart
- What the main reason I ship them is
The "they shouldn't be in love" trope. I mostly ship them when I imagine Frollo being kind (or at least sympathetic like his original book character) but the toxic dynamic is intriguing as well. Their dynamic makes me curious about the many different type of stories you could make with them
- A fanfic idea I have with them
Esmeralda chooses Frollo to save her people, leading to her living with Frollo. As time goes by, she realizes there's more to him than meets the eye, discovering his past trauma, where his hatred for her people came from and a hidden kindness she would never have thought was there.
- My favorite video with them

5. Rolfmaine (John Rolfe from "Pocahontas 2" and Anastasia Tremaine from "Cinderella")
- When I first started shipping them
December 2017
- What my first video was with them
Happy golden days
- What the main reason I ship them is
Adorkable and clumsy princess with a stoic, well-mannered, but kind-hearted diplomat
- A fanfic idea I have with them
Due to Princess Anastasia's recent betrothal to a prince from the neighbor kingdom, her parents decide it's time to bring in an expert to turn their clumsy, foul-mannered daughter into a proper lady. John Rolfe becomes her teacher, but they start to fall in love, putting them both in a precarious situation with Anastasia being betrothed and John being a mere diplomat.

Venom in the “Let There Be Carnage” trailer: *is being incredibly loud and aggressive towards Eddie*
Some people: Venom’s clearly abusive! Why do you people ship them?!
Symbrock shippers and Fans who know Carnage’s backstory: The Venom symbiote is being so aggressive because they’re literally PREGNANT.

Okay, so I was thinking about Venom: Let There Be Carnage again, and I’m sure the rest of y’all have probably pointed this out by now, but…
The phrase “Lethal Protector”.
This is absolutely what TV Tropes refers to as ‘Arc Words’ for Eddie and Venom.
The first time it’s brought up is during the bathroom scene, when Eddie has physically restrain Venom and hide as a means to protect Detective Mulligan. Venom rants, “We should be out there, protecting the city! Lethally!” This leads to their conversation in the bathroom and how much Eddie is trying to hide Venom.
It then pops up again at the beginning of the big argument scene, when Eddie is at the end of his rope after the fiasco at the prison and just snaps at Venom. “‘Lethal Protection’, my ass! You couldn’t protect anything!” And we all know what happens next…
Then there’s the final battle. Venom is just about ready to give up, and Eddie ain’t having it. He tells Venom that Cletus and Carnage aren’t a match like they are together. This is the moment that they call themselves “The Lethal Protector”… and it’s both Venom and Eddie’s voices together. We haven’t heard that since the “We are Venom” scene at the end of the first film.
And finally, the beach scene. Venom is curious on where they’ll go, to which Eddie responds “I don’t know. …Anywhere that needs a Lethal Protector, I suppose.” This of course leads directly to Venom’s adorable reaction of “You really meant it!” And the way Eddie so casually says “Yeah” as if it were OBVIOUS…
I just love these two. SO MUCH.

Okay, so much like @hyenasnake’s Gravepainters theory, I had a theory regarding Manolo and María explode in my brain, so I was off to Twitter to see what Jorge thought of it.

Red Dot Artist Spotlight--Daniel Killen
Today, we shine our spotlight on the immensely talented and very funny, Daniel Killen. Daniel has been creating artwork for the Red Dot Auction for six years and every year his creations astound and delight. This year is no different! To find his artwork—if you can guess which one it is—go to CharityAuction.bid/RedDot11. Register to bid and bid often and bid high. All proceeds go to fund the creativity programs of the Chuck Jones Center for Creativity, a 501(c)3 public charity. The Center focuses on providing programs for children whose schools no longer support the arts, teenagers and young adults on the spectrum, and seniors who see the value in keeping their brains healthy and resilient.
Daniel Killen was born in 1965 and raised along the coast of Southern California, where he still lives and calls home. The youngest of four, Daniel’s family originally immigrated to the United States from Scotland in 1963. Always feeling like an outsider, he began creating and using his imagination to cope with his own shyness. As a child, Daniel created creatures and worlds out of clay, cardboard, and any other items lying around the house. His love for creating grew to include illustrating and painting all of which set the course for his life’s goal of being an artist.
His artistic career began creating designs for a t-shirt business, but in his spare time he was working as a freelance artist designing theatrical backdrops and props used in CBS afterschool specials, produced by his Emmy-award winning brother, Michael. He was given the opportunity through a Disney artist to produce clean-up line work for Western Publishing on Walt Disney licensed creations. This included work on Little Golden Books, featuring Mickey Mouse and Goofy, the Pocahontas Giant Activity Book, and The Hunchback of Notre Dame coloring books. Daniel’s work has consistently been accepted into visual design competitions, including the Orange County Fair, where he has won numerous first place awards. Daniel’s latest book illustrations can be found in the 2013 children’s book Lessons from Sarah the Cat for a Southern California Charity, Pathways to Independence.
He studied animation at Roland Animation School in Hacienda, California. Learning the basics of 2D animation principles, Daniel was recruited in mid-1995 by Warner Bros. where he worked in their animation division on Space Jam starring Michael Jordan and Bugs Bunny. Trained primarily in visual effects, he fulfilled a lifelong dream on his first professional Hollywood project by getting to work with all of the classic Looney Tunes characters. Performing tasks as an animator’s assistant, he was given the responsibility of animating certain EFX scenes on his own. These experiences lead to work on eight additional animated feature films over the next eight years for Warner Bros. and DreamWorks SKG Animation Studio. Daniel also created concept and prop designs for Warner Bros. The Iron Giant, directed by Brad Bird, where he designed the giant’s visual readout, including the font design used in all scenes where the giant’s viewfinder was shown. He also was responsible for the creation of other items in the movie as well as the words ATOMIC HOLOCOST, which reads across the main character’s Duck and Cover school safety film.
His other movies for Warner Bros. were The Quest for Camelot and Osmosis Jones with Bill Murray. DreamWorks SKG projects included working in the EFX department, on Prince of Egypt, The Road to El Dorado, Spirit: Stallion of the Cimarron, and Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas. He also did freelance work for Rich Animation’s The King and I. Daniel continued to hone his drawing and painting skills in classes provide by the major studios, as well as the Animators Union.
Daniel now works with the Chuck Jones Gallery bringing to canvas such inspired Warner Bros. properties as The Wizard of Oz, A Christmas Story, The Iron Giant, and the classic Looney Tunes characters Bugs Bunny, Wile E. Coyote, Daffy Duck, and the Road Runner. Greatly influenced by such artistic giants as Norman Rockwell, Edward Hopper, Frank Frazetta, and Chuck Jones, Daniel incorporates sly wit, poetic beauty, and adventurous themes into his work. He brings his whimsical sense of humor, pleasing colors, and clever layout to all his creative endeavors. In 2018, Daniel was chosen by the Albuquerque International Balloon Fiesta to create the poster for the 2018 Fiesta and to conceptualize and execute the designs for future posters leading up to the 50th Anniversary of the Fiesta in 2021.
Daniel lives by two inspirational quotes from French Director Robert Bresson: “Make visible what, without you, might perhaps never have been seen. “, and “Bring together things that have not yet been brought together and did not seem predisposed to be so.”

Osmosis Jones (2001)
⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️
November 27, 2021
The characters are so GOOEY. One of the most beautiful kinds of animation to gaze at. Everything is an absolute feast, especially Osmosis's insane rictus grin. I love the disgusting bodily worldbuilding and gags. The gratuitous grossness hits the perfect note for me in the cartoon style.
The animated story is an excellent roller-coaster, all full of punch and creativity. The villain is so sexy. The final fight outside the body is so cool. Genre-typical sexism is unpleasant but unobtrusive.
Meanwhile, much of the live-action part is viscerally offputting to me. It's not only the unkempt man himself but the slightly grainy camera and the cluttered, muddy sets. There's a particular scene that makes me physically ill.
I feel like our reactions to grossness are quite affected by the surrounding narrative context, and the male-entitlement discomfort-humor vibe in the live-action isn't conducive to putting my nausea at ease. I can feel my own little Ozzy edging toward the barf button.
Still, I find the live-action part decently funny and charming overall. I thought it was remarkable that apparently the wife was just as gross as the husband. I think it would have done a lot if she was the main character instead of him.

HBO Max New Releases: August 2021
https://ift.tt/3A1bKHN
Back when WarnerMedia (which technically no longer exists in the same form) announced that it would be premiering its entire slate of 2021 films on HBO Max, this is the kind of month they likely had in mind. For HBO Max’s list of new releases in August 2021 is highlighted by an honest-to-goodness blockbuster.
The Suicide Squad is set to premiere Aug. 5 on HBO Max. This film featuring some of DC Comics’ most curious villains borrows its name, format, and many of its characters from the David Ayers-directed 2016 film Suicide Squad. This time around, the rogues gallery is directing by James Gunn (Guardians of the Galaxy) and his colorful disposition. In addition to The Suicide Squad, August sees the arrival of the Hugh Jackman-starring Reminiscence on Aug. 20.

How The Suicide Squad is Different from Guardians of the Galaxy
By Mike Cecchini
It’s a good month for movies overall on HBO Max. Many intriguing library titles arrive on Aug. 1, including Collateral, The Fugitive (1993), The Shawshank Redemption, and Spawn. The Jurassic Park trilogy (Aug. 14), and Godzilla v. Kong (Aug. 17) make their return to the Warner streaming service a little later on.
HBO Max’s original TV offerings can’t compete with The Suicide Squad in August 2021, but there is still plenty to enjoy. The third season of erstwhile DC Universe series Titans premieres on Aug. 12. That will be followed by the second season of former Comedy Central delight The Other Two.
