Smoker Relationship Headcanons
Tumblr media
Tags/Warnings: No Reader Pronouns
𓆃 For how tight-laced and no nonsense he can be, Smoker isn't a terrible partner in the slightest. While he brings some of his stern nature into a relationship, you'll find that he's extremely loyal and surprisingly soft and attentive.
𓆃 Putting it plainly, when it comes to relationships, Smoker has been there and done that. He knows the role he's meant to play in your chosen dynamic. And that being said, he knows exactly what he wants and doesn't waste any time playing games.
𓆃 While early inklings of catching feelings might throw him off a bit (especially if you've been close friends or colleagues), there's little else that keeps him from being direct and politely asking you out forthright.
𓆃 Smoker is rather untraditionally orthodox in the sense that he prefers the traditional song and dance of taking you to dinner, but bringing flowers didn't even cross his mind. He'll hold the door, but couldn't give a damn about which side of the road you walk on. And if you ask if he intends to split your bill he'll look at you like you're crazy.
𓆃 And there's almost no way to predict Smoker's picking and choosing in terms of his relationship expectations, which mostly comes from him thinking things and then not telling you because he thought them so you must automatically know.
𓆃 You'll find that you often have to roll with random things popping up in your mutual schedule at the last minute because how could Smoker not tell you he's been dispatched for the next two weeks?
𓆃 And his reaction is always the same. He'll crinkle his forehead and squint his eyes while the words "I thought I told you 'bout that" pass around his cigar.
𓆃 Smoker often sails for a period of time and then comes back home to where he's stationed. You can almost always count of this revolving schedule, although if yours is remotely similar, it's rare that your schedules line up.
𓆃 Whenever he travels, Smoker always brings back a little gift from whatever island he's just been to, and you've even found that you can request just about whatever your heart desires and Smoker will find a way to get it.
𓆃 Although, he doesn't understand a thing about trends, so requesting a popular item will be met with a grumpy, begrudging attitude.
𓆃 "Why do you want a stupid little trinket? You're not gonna ask for, ah, I dunno jewelry or somethin'?" "I'm not buyin' you a Soul King vinyl. You know that guy's a wanted criminal right?"
𓆃 For all his complaining, Smoker will come home with a necklace and the vinyl (he sent one of his men to buy one incognito).
𓆃 And he complains a lot and you'll find that he can have quite the attitude. After the third time you've mentioned how much you want take-away Smoker is going to put his jacket on and get it, but he's going to be mumbling and grumbling the whole time.
𓆃 That goes for just about anything you want on a whim. Whether you want something sweet in the middle of the night or you walked past something really nice at the market and now you're lamenting over whether you should have bought it.
𓆃 And every time Smoker is getting out of bed to get you ice cream or turning you both around so you— or more likely he— can buy you that item you were so infatuated with.
𓆃 But for every ounce of attitude he gives, it's within reason and expectation that you give it right back to him. Smoker will never say he likes when you're a bit sassy, but he's very clearly amused by banter.
𓆃 Landing a clever clap-back on him simply makes him smile. The smile is usually accompanied by an eyeroll and the shake of his head, but you can tell he loves when you get a little feisty.
𓆃 In the same vein, Smoker easily gets suckered by a bit of pouting here and there because for being rigid and grumpy, he would do anything short of breaking the law for you.
𓆃 If you're someone looking for something serious and long-term, look no further because Smoker is on board with settling down. Once you're in a relationship, there's very little that would keep him from being anything but dedicated to you.
𓆃 Oh, except piracy.
𓆃 Yeah, piracy would likely get in the way of that.
Thank you to all who liked, reblogged, followed, and supported. Your support means so much and is greatly appreciated.

um if this doesn't make you uncomfortable
i saw your hc lucifer as orthodox christian and i have an interest in orthodox so can i request some hcs of lucifer as an orthodox christian (like his daily activities as orthodox christian, etc.)
again, if you are feeling uncomfortable, feel free to ignore this, i know many dont feel comfortable with topic of religion
(if you want age confirmation, im an legal adult)
I'm not uncomfortable with talking about my religion, but there's this itty bitty problem that comes up when you discuss orthodox christian traditions. Every countries orthodox traditions are different because, unlike catholic christianity with the pope, there's no authorithy over the whole religion. (There's patriarchs, but they're authorothy over their respective region, not the whole of orthodoxy. It's complicated and I do not have the full understanding on how the orthodox hierarchy works either.)
That's a long way of saying that I'll be writing Lucifer as specificly a romanian orthodox christian because that's the one I'm familiar with.
Lucifer being orthodox on main
There's a day every year when Lucifer will wash the feet of all his nobles. Since he's at the top of the food chain in his country (and in general), he's the one that has to wash the sins away from all his nobles. He used to do it to the patience as well, but they're too many since the war began.
Paradise Lost is the only country that celebrates Easter, but it's during the correct date and not the catholic date.
Easter Eve night is spent at the church where Lucifer sings a specific prayer before leading the atendees around the church three times. Every atendent has to hold a chicken or rooster as they circle the church and at the end they sacrifice the birds to the lord.
Not an orthodox thing exactly, but Lucifer loves decorating eggs with beads, kind of like this
Tumblr media
During Easter everyone in Paradise Lost has to smash an egg with everyone else. (I have no idea how to explain it, just have a video. That's basicly it)
youtube
After Easter he greats all his nobles with "Hristos a înviat" ("Christ has been revived" kinda, I'm not a professional translator) and his nobles have to answer "Adevărat a înviat" ("True, he's been revived."). This goes on for a month
Moving on from Christmas, whenever a patient dies, Lucifer rushes to their room and lights candle.
No noble in Paradise Lost ever dies (thank you, Gamigin) but Lucifer has a whole ass plan prepared for the possibility of them dying. I talking casket measurements, a list of their favorite foods so he may give it out as pomană, the prayer he'll honor them with, everything
Whenever something bizarre or unorthodox (haha) happens, Lucifer will let out a quiet "Doamne fereşte" ("God forbid") and look at an icon (he has those in every room).
He was given a cross necklace when he was younger by God and he never takes it off. Will hiss at anyone that even tries to touch it.
Lucifer only wears red underwear. It's to prevent people from putting envy curses on him. If he's praising someone a lot, at some point he'll do the "pu pu pu să nu te deochi" ("[spitting noise] may I not curse you")
He sometimes calls his brothers by their hebrew names, that's Gavril, Mihail and Rafail. Kind of preferes calling them by those names, but he can go with the latin version as well.
I'mma be honest, these were the hardest headcanons to write for. There's so many romanian words that have no direct translation and all of them are related to religion in some way 😭😭😭 I didn't even bring up the strigoi or jumping over fire. I've been told before that I kind of need to tone down the use of Romanian on my blog since not everyone is from here, so I tried my best with translations.

i am so, so bummed out right now.
for a bit of context, i had an atheist phase for a while but judaism snuck back up on me and hit me on the back of the head like a truck like two weeks ago and now i feel like if i don’t pray in a synagogue Literally Right Now i am going to implode.
i started searching for a reform synagogue in the city i moved to a few years ago while still in The Phase, and… there’s nothing. “but no worries, whatever, i’m sure there has to be at least some other kind of-“
nope. nothing. and that got me thinking— i’ve seen hundred of churches scattered around the region. dozens of mosques. thousands of people walking on the street wearing cross necklaces or hijabs.
and not a single magen david or kippah.
the ONLY synagogue in this entire region is an ancient orthodox synagogue that was abandoned when sephardi jews were kicked out of the iberian peninsula centuries ago. they don’t even do service. it’s just a tourist trap now.
i’m extremely upset, actually. it seems like to this city, the only good jew is a dead jew.

Coronation Dress
So, you may know that for a while now I've been designing the Kingdom of Anchorage and Kodiak, a kingdom in southwest Alaska run by a Native American Orthodox dynasty in a post-apocalyptic world. As part of that, I'm sharing the coronation dress* of its founder figure, Queen Abigail, and looking for opinions from my female followers and other women and girls here.
The base layer is a chemise, and above that are tie-on pockets, a corset (not tightlaced) and the frame for a hoop skirt, covered with a petticoat and a sleeveless smock. All of these cloth layers are made of white silk. For footwear, there are a pair of cream buckskin moccasins covered with blue and turquoise beadwork and with white fur around the tops.
The skirt is layered; the bottom layer is light blue and fringed with beadwork in the shapes of forget-me-nots and northern bluebells, the middle layer is medium blue and fringed with beadwork in the same patterns, while the top layer is dark blue and fringed with beadwork in the shapes of ravens and orcas (respectively very important to the Koyukon people Abigail comes from and the national symbol of Alaska), and alternating raven, snow goose and golden eagle feathers projecting out from the waist, which also has a cloth-of-gold sash tied around it. This layer is also made of silk
The bodice (made of dark blue silk) is decorated with beadwork patterns in the shape of a raven on the right and an orca on the left. It is fastened with buttons at the front, with buttons made of mammoth ivory and carved in the shape of various animals; descending from the top, a raven with spread wings, a leaping orca, a reindeer seen from the side, a standing bear, a moose seen from the side, a leaping salmon and an eagle with spread wings. The shoulders are large and puffed and use sleeve supports, and the arms are wholly covered between them and a pair of bicep-length white gloves made of the leather of young Dall sheep, fastened with mammoth ivory buttons.
The hair is tied back into a bun with a hairnet, and covered with a veil of dark blue silk fringed with gold, worn in the style of a mantilla. A string of pearls are wrapped tightly around the neck, and there is a shell necklace spread over the chest of the same make as this one.
There is also a long dark blue cloak which drapes along the ground, with the monarch's seal sewn into it with gold thread, fastened with silver clasps in the shape of ravens.
Instead of a crown, there is a diadem made of navy fabric, fringed with gold thread; in the centre is the national coat of arms, with the monarch’s seal (both described below) on either side. The diadem is fastened at the back with gold clasps in the shape of bears, with dark blue silken tappets embroidered with the names of family saints in gold thread. From the back and side are strings of circular beads made out of amethyst (directly against the back of the neck), fluorite (on either side of the amethyst beads) and obsidian (against the side of the head).
The coat of arms contains an orca on a Norman-style shield with a dark blue field, with a gold band above and one beneath the orca, and gold around it. Crossed behind it is a harpoon leaning left and a Russian cross leaning right, topped by a raven with spread wings with the Orthodox Christogram above it. The supporters are bears, and the dark green ground beneath it contains forget-me-nots and crowberries.
The monarch's seal consists of a Greek cross, with the corners containing (clockwise from top left) MP ΘΟΥ (the standard Orthodox abbreviation of "Mother of God"), IC XC (the standard Orthodox abbreviation of "Jesus Christ"), a ligature of βδλ (the consonants of basileia, "kingdom") above AK (Anchorage and Kodiak) and AL LD (Abigail's initials; her surname is Littlefield).
Tagging @femme-et-traditionnelle, @miss-rogers-all-american, @melisssg99, @luvchristxx and @roses-red-and-pink for your opinions! Particularly if anyone has the time, skill and inclination to draw it, please do so!
*While made for the coronation, she still wears it at other extremely formal events, namely Pascha and the final dinner of potlaches.

la revacholiére I AM THE CITY
a fragment of the world spirit, the genius loci of revachol YOU ARE THE FUTURE
wanted to do a kim pinup and it became religious in nature as is natural to happen. something about revealing himself to harry and being comfortable with that and harry seeing him as what he is: revachol, the city that loves him. so i put the flag of revachol behind kim, with it's seal cut out bc that's the flag of revolution, and thru the hole, the bay of revachol and one of those revachol sunsets
Tumblr media Tumblr media
flag btw^ black for capitalism and new money, gold for kingdom and old money (it's actual metallic shiny / glittery / shimmery fabric), blue is the moralism / moralintern that binds them. lion symbol of suzerainty, skua original symbol of revachol that's been on the very very first flag before the kingdom (truly symbolizes the colonialism). the red arc is from the suzerainty's flag where it has the 6 suns, and then the islands are all the nations of the coaliton maybe? i don't remember actually. skua has the moralintern forget-me-not in it's beak. i think actually there would be the symbol of the coalition (5 black bars with a gold square between them) in the middle there instead of the islands but eh.
also my kim becomes leader of the revolution agenda. and it's like yeah. you're fucking the guy who keeps up such a strong, closed-off front, who is basically revachol's last hope (well, the leader of the people who are the last hope because he doesn't do it alone), but because you are his partner in everything, you are the one privileged to see his real self, mask off entirely
and why not harry well because harry's arc is to choose himself. to stop trying to sacrifice himself for everything. to let go of trying to be the savior, to choose to work on himself instead of the city. whereas kim's arc is choosing to pursue his dreams, choosing to make a difference, choosing to lead instead of choosing himself and choosing a comfortable, safe life as he's been choosing for the past twenty years
harry has spent his whole life chasing dragons, choosing to save everyone but himself. now it's time to save himself
kim has spent his whole life hiding away, choosing only to save himself. now it's time for him to slay dragons. you know????
also i love drawing pinups so much bc i love just. adding so much man details. i really want to draw some nudes and do scar mapping bc i wish i was more consistent with the scars bw the men drawings. incredibly important to me that kim is wrinkly btw. imagine also he smells of pine sap and all of that. also a nitpick but he wouldn't touch himself with his gloves on coz well he doesn't want to get them dirty, but it's just required to draw him with them. also also his necklace is too long and i wish his hand weren't covering it but it's the orthodox cross. he never takes it off. and yes idgaf i like kim with diamond glasses, idc what the art says, i like it when he has some little spark of something very very slightly personality. like yes he goes to work and goes into work mode and all of that, but like. he's just a little bit budging and choosing things for himself. idc. OH re scars i read some fic somewhere that kim's scars are different from the other officers bc he's got a lot of shit from knife fights bc he worked juvie, so less gunshots and other shit and more getting shanked and stabbed
anyways, if you got thru this, thanks for reading the secret lore!!!

only 1.3% of america is muslim?? thats insane. i learn so much about religion in america from your blog (i had assumed it was around 5%, same as canada... way off)
Tumblr media
I'm assuming this other ask is also from you!
Yeah, this surprised me too. I do remember reading a study once that Americans tend to way overestimate the percentage of several minorities that are "controversial" and/or get talked about in the news a lot. (I believe the study specifically mentioned Muslims, black people, and trans people.) So that definitely might be at play here, combined with people's estimates being influenced by knowledge of other countries. For instance, I'm assuming you are from Canada and you are applying knowledge of your home country, while I may have been influenced by knowing that Islam is a very large religion worldwide, even if comparatively few of its adherents are living in the US.
Another thing that this is making me think of, especially comparing Islam to Mormonism, is that many Muslims, specifically Muslim women, wear distinctive religious clothing. This is, of course, true of many other people from other religious traditions, but a smaller percentage of them. Like some Jewish people especially Orthodox wear a kippah or other distinctive clothing on an everyday basis but most Conservative or Reform Jews don't. Amish and (some) Mennonites dress very distinctively but are a small minority of Christians overall, and obviously a cross necklace or "Jesus Is King" tshirt telegraphs Christianity as well but might not be everyday attire (and also isn't seen as a religious commandment in the way that wearing a kippah or hijab is). I do know Muslim women who don't cover their hair but most do, and personally I live in an area that has a high enough Muslim population that I pretty regularly see women wearing hijab out and about. Which visually telegraphs to me that there are Muslim members of my community in a way that might not be the case for religious groups who do not dress in a way that is visually distinctive.
Mormonism is also interesting in this line of analysis because it does have religiously commanded clothing that adherents are required to wear, but it's not a head covering or external garment, it's an undergarment. In my experience, you can sometimes tell if someone is wearing temple garments because their shape is visible under tighter or sheerer clothing, but 1) a lot of clothing wouldn't show visible garment lines 2) you kind of have to know to look for them. I know a lot of people who live in Utah will look out for Visible Garment Lines TM to ascertain whether someone is a member of the church or not (whether they are a member looking for other members or a non-member looking for non-members). I have also been in academic contexts where there was a large percentage of LDS people in attendance and have both done some garment-line-clocking and had people clock me for not wearing garments. So garment-checking is definitely A Whole Thing but again you have to be in the know. So your average American may well meet LDS people in their everyday life and not know their religious affiliation unless the person tells them.

People’s Flag Wars: Round 1, Bracket 11
See the symbolism below.
Coptic Egypt is a flag by @arthurdrakoni.
Symbolism: “This is the flag of Coptic Egypt.  It comes from a world where Islam was never founded.  One of the many consequences of this was that the Byzantine Empire continued to prosper for a number of years.  Eventually, however, tensions began to grow within the empire.  Egypt began to feel that Constantinople was giving them the short end of the stick a bit too often.  Egypt's main grievances were increased taxes and increased tensions between the Coptic and Orthodox churches. After a brief war, Egypt was granted its independence.  Despite this, Egypt retains good relations with Byzantium.  It also maintains good relations with fellow Oriental Orthodox nations Ethiopia and Armenia.  Egypt has traditionally been a hub of trade, and following its independence work began on a canal in the Sinai Peninsula.  Egypt established traditions ports in India and China.  It also established colonies in Australia, which is known as New Egypt, as well as a few minor colonies in South America.
The wealth from its trade and colonies has made Egypt a very rich nation.  People and goods from throughout the world can be found across Egypt's cities.  Currently there is something of an architectural fad based around reinterpretations of Ancient Egyptian architecture.  Egypt also has a reputation for having some of the best universities and centers of learning in the world.  It is a nation which honors its past while keeping an eye towards the future.
The flag contains a Coptic Cross to represent Egypt's Coptic faith.  The background represents the sands of Egypt, while the blue bands stands for the waters of the Nile River.  The writing is in the Coptic Script and reads "Jesus Christ, Son of God".”
Forest City Flag is a flag by @forestcityflag.
Symbolism: “The Forest City is a new flag for Cleveland, highlighting both our history and environment. The blue top half represents Lake Erie, our very own inland sea. The green bottom half represents the Forest City nickname and the Emerald Necklace of our Metroparks. The wavy chevron in the center represents the Cuyahoga River winding its way through downtown. The pattern is inspired by a design from Moses Cleaveland's coat of arms (he's the guy who invented Cleveland). At the same time, the upward facing arrow is reminiscent of the city's motto "Progress and Prosperity," pointing up towards the future.”
New Jersey Autonomous Zone is a flag by @lil-tachyon.
Symbolism: “The design is based on the original New Jersey flag but re-imagined in the context of some kind of anarcho-communist future. The buff field of the NJ flag is replaced by the bisected black/red used by anarcho-communists and syndicalists. The coat of arms has the godesses Liberty and Ceres replaced by workers wielding a sickle and hammer, the horse head replaced by the head of the Jersey Devil, a yellow Star backed by a slice of pork roll replacing the helmet, and tomatoes and cranberries flanking the star. The motto is changed from "Liberty and Prosperity" to "Trenton Makes, The World Takes," the words infamously featured on the Lower Trenton Bridge.”

One thing to know about Russia is that it's a deeply atheist country, since agressive atheism was embraced by USSR as a part of the state ideology. As a result, almost noone was raised as Christian in the childhood - they are late converts, or are "exploring their heritage". Church attendance among people younger than 50 years old is almost non-existent, and Russian Orthodox church has no position on any social issue that is distinct or different from the position of the state.
So when you see Russians dangling their large golden cross necklaces around, understand that it's almost entirely performative and they don't care about religion on any significant level. They are conservative, but not because God mandates so (re: Provorov). Russians are also incredibly racist, and common public sentiment about the Russian players in the NHL is that the players should return home so as not to "bow to the n**gers"
Oh wow I didn’t know that and that last part nearly took me out. I knew they were racist but goodness (are you part of the melatonin community just curious).
