I'm sorry to inform the Tumblrverse that Boudicca as of yesterday has passed away. It was extremely unexpected, very shocking, and really hurts. My best present guess is either a heart attack or some kind of internal defect exacerbated by the metabolic pressure of the explosive molt she and her sisters are going through. She's buried far from the coop and the run in a part of the yard she used to only enjoy under supervision. Love you Boudicca. And I'm sorry.

The part where he compares himself to the butler imps Stolas mistreats was unexpected, but one of my favorite parts. Also, that ending...he was straight up prepared to fight this all powerful demon prince three times his height and I desperately wish it had ended another way because honestly, chills.

The chicks are growing! Putting my chicken ramblings under a read more.

So the gray one is Bunny, the red one is Tacy, the black one is Epsie, and the yellow one is Jemima.

I named them, but they are not my chicks. They belong to a family friend.

On Sunday they all snuggled in my hand. Now I'm just someone they met back when they were little. XD

Bunny does not like to be touched or held AT ALL. She doesn't even like my hand near, no matter how slow and gentle I try to be. The family friend said she can be a bit grumpy. When she grows up, she might lay green eggs.

Epsie seems relatively laid back. She also seems to try and play "big sister" to the other chicks. It's hard to see, but you can sort of see in the one picture of her that a little feather is growing out of her head.

Jemima didn't like the process of being picked up, but once she was in my hands, she seemed pretty happy. She even dozed off a couple of times. It seemed like she and Tacy stick together some, but I might be imagining that.

Now Tacy is a snuggle bug. I picked her up and she immediately closed her eyes, relaxed, and took a nap. Eventually my hands got tired, but as you can see in the picture, she didn't want to leave my hand! I'm trying really hard not to play favorites, but she's a real sweetie.

I don't know how often I'll be able to visit them. I hope I can learn more about their personalities. I was also promised an awkward teenage phase that I'm looking forward to!

No, this is true and accurate and i am on board. They'll have American chicken breeds in Medieval Europe or some fakey "Africa" or "Asia" set where they should have their own common breeds that do well in those climates or are in high demand in those cultures. On top of that layer hens in a cultural setting that eats chicken meat more than chicken eggs is silly. They would have meat chickens instead. Even the US predominantly bred hens for meat before the invention of refrigeration because preserving eggs was difficult. Eggs are only a breakfast food at all because you gotta eat them right away, so chickens that make tons of eggs would be inefficient and uncommon in, say, the Old West without a population to eat them and methods of preserving them. Movies will just rent some chickens to liven up a scene, but they frequently break it for me.

anyway yeah, op is right. i will add to this "movies portraying chickens out at night" as an additional peeve.

New array of chickens, thank you for all the suggestions!  Putting all the breeds so far in the tags, also some new requests came in recently, and a couple people have mentioned silkies?  I’m not sure if I’ll be able to get that adorable fluffy head, but will attempt at some point.

Working on some chicken variations. Might be a little while till I get them in the shop, but if you have chicken breeds you desire let me know. It’s hard with my color palette, but I’ll try my darndest.

A cute, silly AU where Y/N is a Momma Hen with little chicks and Eclipse, Sun, and Moon are various birds of prey who could effortlessly pick off the babies for a meal but instead take a shining to Y/N and adopt the babies as their own.

Y/N and babies are Lavender Orpingtons, soft and silvery and very fluffy.

Moon is a Peregrine Falcon with long, pointed wings and a long tail. He's blue-gray above with barred underparts and a half dark, half gray head with striking red eyes. He's quiet but terrifying when he appears behind Y/N without a word.

Sun is a Red-Tail Hawk with a bright red tail that he loves to show off. His back is a bright yellow and his belly is an off-white color. His eyes are a bright, sharp blue, and he always has an eye on Y/N and the chicks.

Eclipse is a Golden Eagle. Large and powerful, he has rich, dark brown feathers with a golden wash over his back and tail. He has a bit of a wash of red around his neck as well. His eyes are yellow and piercing. His presence scares Y/N the most.

Anyways, they each scare Y/N half to death when they drop in to say hello and also promise that they won't eat the chicks! They just want to take care of Y/N's family and also get to know the little hen better.
