Came across these old plein air watercolors of some of the faces on planting urns at Villa Lante outside Viterbo, Italy from a lifetime ago. The variety of expression created in these ornamental details by artisans with the same constraints - size, tools, materials, and presumably time - is a testament to the creative forces available to humans as creators.
