“I know, Parvis.” Strife spoke down to his companion who, despite the fact that he should have been holding the base of the stepladder, had his arms crossed over his chest, tapping one foot against the floor.

“It’s not a screw fitting.” He stated, raising one eyebrow as Strife seemed to continue his struggle with the object.

“I know, Parvis-” He felt a slight, unsteady shaking as he turned his head to look down on the other. “Damn it, hold the ladder!” Parv pouted, unfolding his arms to rest his hands on each side of the ladder.

“Why don’t you just let me do it?”

“Parv, I know what I’m doing.”

“Are you sure?” He grinned.

"Fine! If you think it’s so easy, you-” Strife yelped as he was pulled down and unceremoniously dropped on the floor, followed by Parv taking the bulb from his hand and climbing up onto the stepladder. “I told you, it’s actually a really finicky-”

“Got it!” Parv proclaimed as the bulb clicked into place and lit up. Strife glared up at him. “Hey, it’s not my fault you don’t know how a bayonet bulb works.” He hopped down off the ladder and quickly pressed a kiss to Strife’s nose, who grumbled in response.

"Hey, why don’t you teach me how another one of your weird machines works?” He asked, smiling expectantly.

“…Sure.”

lalna and rythian, prompt 1 ?

1: Person A attempts to poison Person B over dinner.

There’s something to be said for the classics. Of course, as a man of science, Lalna likes to experiment, but there’s just something so very satisfying about doing things the old-fashioned way. Which is why he invited Rythian to dinner, of course.

The ender mage was sceptical, to say the least. He peeked warily into the scientist’s kitchen as he served the appetiser - some sort of soup, the only identifiable component being what looked like carrots. Lalna paid little heed to Rythian’s (very much founded) paranoia, deciding to settle his nerves by letting him pick his own bowl to eat from.

The evening progressed without incident; the pair somehow managed to maintain amicable conversation, on topics they both held an interest in, such as the various schools of magic and how Nano was coping with her flux infection (Rythian gave a few very helpful pointers, which Lalna mentally filed away for later use).

By the time dessert rolled around, Rythian had relaxed completely and expressed eagerness to try the dessert after the success of the main course - beef steak and potatoes, with some sort of unusual seasoning and a bit of fresh salad from Lalna’s own garden.

Lalna looked very proud of himself as he presented the final course: laid out on each plate was a slice of cherry bakewell, garnished with a little chocolate decoration. Rythian inhaled deeply, taking in the fresh scent of cherry and almonds as Lalna sat back down.

“Baked them this morning.” Lalna stated before he took a mouthful of the treat, chewing thoughtfully and then swallowing before continuing. “The cherries were a bit of a hassle, but I managed.” Rythian hummed in acknowledgement, about to take his own first bite before stopping suddenly, dropping his fork. “Everything alright there?”

“Cyanide.” Lalna’s eyes widened slightly, then narrowed.

“What?”

“Potassium Cyanide.” Rythian stood up, slamming his hands down on the table. “Clever of you, putting it in an almond-based dish, but not quite clever enough, I’m afraid.”

“How did you-”

“I might not like science, but I’m not an idiot!” He swept the plate to one side and the dessert fell to the floor with a sad kind of ‘sput’ noise. He glared at Lalna, who seemed to shrink slightly.

“You can’t prove-”

“Eat it then.”

“It’s on the floor!” Rythian picked up the slice of bakewell with one hand, depositing it on the then-chipped plate before approaching Lalna, who stood and backed away as quickly as possible without panicking. “Now, Rythian, be reasonable about this.”

“Eat the damn cake!” Lalna paused, seeming to consider his options, before he turned and ran as fast as his legs would take him. Rythian sighed, exasperated, and followed.
