Disco Elysium is soooo good y'all; I feel like I'll never give it the credit it deserves.

I'm not even sure it's finished, but I'm just going to set this down now, though.

my hot take about disco elysium that i will die on the hill defending is that if you decide to turn klaasje in you entirely missed the point of what the game’s trying to teach you.

she did do genuinely horrible things at the behest of capital, but that’s not really the point. the point is that you, harry du bois, a police officer under the moralintern, can never bring any actual sort of justice to anything. if you turn her in sure, she might go to prison or worse because of what she did, but what the hell does that fix. klaasje was a pawn in the violence of international imperialist capital, and if you decide to take her in you are operating as an arm of capital moving that piece around.

the only way forward (both in the game and in real life) is the abolition of prisons and policing. if harry du bois is going to change anything the first step has to be not doing his job

I love Klaasje when she's sassy.

I love Klaasje when she's sad.

I love Klaasje when she's childish.

I love Klaasje when she's bad.

I love Klaasje. That's why I find it so hard to ever try to arrest her.

Inland Empire says it himself: "She's already in prison here."

You know what happens if you arrest her? You know what you hear if you have high Shivers?

Some people say that doesn't necessarily mean she gets killed, but I can't help but read it that way.

So regardless of who she is—Klaasje, Katarzine Alasije, Annouk Meijer-Smit, Miss Teen Oranje—I choose to let her go.

Who knows? Maybe it's not too late to turn things around. Because sure, she's not perfect. But God. Neither are we.

So let's hope for a miracle. Because let's not forget...
