Koushiro...I will not go into detail but I will say it's cute that you have a sweater with a little K on it, it's also very cute that there is a splash of orange in your outfit, who's attention are you vying for it isn't subtle at all bby boy and I am grateful you matched your shoes to your sweater even if the socks are definitely a choice and that blue with orange is also definitely another choice. Good to see your are making choices. I like that him and Tentomon are sharing dango, it's always nice to see Koushiro's fondness towards Japanese traditional snacks hinted at in some way.

MIMI. QUEEN. SLAAAAAYYYYYYYYYY!!!! YOU NEVER EVER MISS MY SWEET BEAUTIFUL BABY GIRL. The pastel tones matched with the grey stockings for contrast, that beret and the fuzzy hem boots, you just know she shops at Takashimaya and Isetan and anything below it will just not do 👏🏻 Plus Sora and Mimi are wearing the same tones, which probably means that they pre-planned the outfits together, cuties!!! Also Crepe is such a Mimi™️ choice of dessert but I always get teary eyes when I see Palmon mimic Mimi's gestures, there is just so much love and admiration between them for each other, pure childish wonder 💚 And the crepe even has a cutesy character face on it, which kinda looks like Monzaemon, though I can't be sure but if it is then another win for a subtle reference. Not to mention both Yamato and Mimi look like they've dressed in a more cool and elegant style than the rest like they might be on their way to a date THE MIMAT MATH IS MATHING YALLL!!!

Hikari looks super cute, I think there isn't much official art of her in casual clothing for OG stuff so it's nice to see her in a more cutesy fit suited to her age. The hairband matching the cardigan is such a nice touch!! I can't recall any other casual outfit for OG design Hikari except the War Game and Memorial Party dress, so I think this would be the first time we see Hikari with a hairband and it just looks adorable. Of course she is sharing an ice cream with Tailmon, it's kinda their brand now but like Takeru she's making a surprised expression, perhaps she wasn't expecting Tailmon to offer her a bite of her ice cream?

To conclude, this is probably the best OG artwork we've gotten since Idk maybe the Rainy Day stationery series. This will be sold in advance at the Kamio Store booth at Anime Japan 2024. No other details were mentioned, but the event booth sale feels like a pre-sale before the goods become available more widely at other outlets, hopefully, at some stores that international fans have access too as well.

Oh god okay I struggled deciding on just 6 looks. I also have no perception of what ep they come from so sorry abt that 💔 but anyway here we go LMAO

First look we have this really nice blueish/grey button down. It's smart casual, his pants are low on his hips and honestly he fills out the shirt real good 🤤 like goddAMN

Second, we have the classic brown quarter zip. I absolutely fucking LOVE this look. I have my own brown quarter zip that I pretend is his lmaooooo. It's just a cosy look and I love it 💖

Next we got the full on suit and tie :3 my favourite is when he wears a dark tie cuz he really suits dark colours imo!! Delicious, neat, I'm at his command 🫣

Him with the suit but no jacket is so hot like are you KIDDING ME. And in later seasons?? He has such a sexy dadbod which is a bit more obvious in these shirts so it's an instant favourite for me.

And now we have the orange sweater!!! It's such an adorable look, and one of my favourite scenes from the whole show too!! He's a littol pumpkin man 🥰🥰

Here she is!!!

HIERODULE HAS ENTERED THE BATTLEFIELD

with both Scything Talons and twin Bio-Cannons to bring to bear, the Hierodule Bio-Titan is a walking nightmare, whether it's the Barbed or Scythed variant.

I used 12 paints to colour this model, starting with a spray primer similar to Vallejo Bloody Red.

I tried to basically liveblog the process of painting this model, but for anyone interested anyway, here's some

~Paint Recipes~

okay so those were a lot of fun to make but obviously i don't paint each separate part fully before i move on to the next, my process looks more something like this;

1- RED with a spray primer. i bought the "Bloody Red" bottle i have because it's close to the primer colour i have which i bought from michael's.

2- Mechanicus Standard Grey all the shell bits

3- Yriel Yellow all gun bits and mouth parts, often twice if it needs it since that's a Layer paint, not a Base paint, so it's less pigmented.

4- Two coats Fuegan Orange in the mouth area to really get it lookin squishy and gross

5- Corvus Black talons, teeth, hooves, spikes, etc.

6- Hexwraith Flame the gunparts, may need a drybrush of Yriel Yellow again after to keep it yellow enough, since green is a cold colour and doesn't compliment the reds and oranges in this colour scheme

7- NULN OIL EVERYTHING. THE WHOLE MODEL. ALL AT ONCE. not including the mouthparts, that's already sufficiently shaded by the Fuegan Orange and wouldn't benefit from a black shade.

8- Drybrush Warplock Bronze over all the red parts. I'm kinda on the fence on whether this step and colour are really a good addition, it adds some variation and shine/highlighting to the colours of the carapace that i think improves it?, while also darkening the overall colour in a way that I like.

I took a photo of this step while I was doing it because I had the thought of that nobody not actually holding the model would really be able to tell the difference

front half without bronzing, back half with.

9- model's done! basing time~ For this base, I started with a coating of Leather Brown, because that's what would be showing through the cracks of the Crackle Paint

10- I experimented with using both my technicals on this one, so I started with applying two Mud Puddles of the Stirland Battlemire

11- after the battlemire mud dried, the rest got covered in a very generous coating of Agrellan Earth, so it would crackle nicely.

12- Stirland Battlemire and Agrellan Earth are... very different shades of brown. to even them out, I painted over the mire with Leather Brown, and drybrushed the earth with the same.

13- the final step of any model that I paint, and what i use to signify to myself that the model is done, is the base band! i like to use Corvus Black because its nice and neutral, but for my models that I have multiple with different loadouts such as tyranid warriors, I've been considering adding coloured stripes to the base bands to help identify individuals more easily.

hi there!! i'd be happy to! i've never regretted saving a psd yet 😂 this is the post in question and honestly, for as... not great as the quality of my dl of the movie is, i'm still really happy with how it turned out! also i love women 😍

nothing too wild going on here, but even when i do "simple" coloring like this (gradient maps, my beloved), i still color the base gifs. once i have all the gifs made and plopped onto the canvas, this is what my coloring layers look like:

working from the bottom up, i almost always start with a brightness/contrast layer. i don't adjust either value, but instead set the layer's blending mode to screen. this movie is pretty dark, so i left the opacity at 100%, but sometimes, i'll drop the opacity as low as 20-30%.

i follow that up with a curves layer, where i utilize the black and white eyedroppers. click the black eyedropper and then click the blackest point on your gif. then do the same with the white eyedropper. it's a good idea to play around with different points, especially when you're working with super tinted scenes. curves layers can be a lifesaver!

on the levels layer, i did the same exact thing with the eyedroppers, but oftentimes, i end up increasing the black value, like you see here:

next, my FAVORITE adjustment layer: selective color! i like to color code my selective color layers, especially when i'm working on a super colorful set like my recent lisa frankenstein set. i always start with adjusting the blacks and usually the neutrals. you can right click on the eye/visibility icon to select a color. i use grey for these colors. here were my adjustments:

i'll occasionally adjust the white values when working with a really tinted scene, but these were fine, and it wouldn't make much difference anyway since we're putting a gradient map over top.

the next curves layer is just a slight adjustment for the top row of gifs to make the eventual gradient map layer more vibrant. i added this after the fact, but wanted it positioned here.

the subsequent brightness/contrast layer is the same thing. the top row just needed some more work. same as the original b/c layer, i didn't adjust the values and set the layer to screen. on this one, i dropped the opacity to 45%.

finally, the pièce de résistance, the gradient map layer! i just slapped on a gradient map adjustment layer. the color on the left should always be your darker color, and in this case, i want it true black. the color goes on the right, and bc this was a lesbian flag set, i just googled the specific hex codes for the lesbian pride flag and used those colors for each row! here's what that looks like for the orange portion of the set:

to change the colors, you just click on the lil square guys on the bottom of the gradient and you can choose a color from the color picker or just copy and paste a hex code.

and there you have it! i lovelovelove using gradient maps for big, vibrant pops of color, but also for gifs of scenes that are just. so hard to color lmao. call it a cop-out, but it makes my life a lot easier 😂

“Woah,” she says, letting the door swing shut behind her. (Loudly. The doors here are so heavy.) Her voice echoes off the stone walls. She feels like she’s stepped into some story, like an exaggerated version of what a mage’s college would be.

It’s not that she’s never heard of a library before or anything. She understands them, conceptually. But the most books she’s ever seen at once was the small set of shelves in Rorik’s manor, and even that blew her away the first time – all the pretty bindings and close-written words. This is –

The College library is something else. It’s a lot bigger than a set of shelves.

Winding, narrow hallways bend and squiggle around like a set of earthworms trying to squish together to make a solid shape with no gaps, and every single wall is lined with books. Each shelf is like a rainbow of covers and colours. Half the spines are thick as at least two fingers put together and written over with words she can’t read. Efri has to bring Sissel here. She’d lose her mind.

“Woah,” she says again, and steps further in to look at the books on the shelves. All the bindings in blacks and blues and browns. One has the title written down the spine in gold lettering that shines. She brings up a hand to touch it.

“What are you doing?” someone demands. Efri stops. She looks.

It’s a grumpy-looking orc man in a bright yellow tunic, glaring at her much fiercer than seems necessary for the crime of looking at books in a library. He looks like he might be old – his hair’s white enough that his beard’s the same colour as his sharp sticking-out teeth, and he’s wrinkly.  Efri wrinkles her nose and tells him, “I’m looking at the books.”

“Wash your hands first,” he barks, turning his much-too-angry glare on Efri’s hovering arms. “You look like the sort of person to have grubby fingers.”

It’s true, but Efri is offended anyway. She wipes her palms hard against her orange wool skirt. (The skirt is grey at the hem from playing in dirty snow. It does not make her any cleaner.)

“Who’re you?” she asks the rude man. “I haven’t met you yet.”

He does not stop scowling. Maybe he’s perpetually angry. Maybe he just has an unfortunate face. But he says, “I’m the Arcaeneum archivist. Urag gro-Shub.”

The Arcaeneum, that’s what the library’s called. Very fancy name. (Sissel will love it. And has Kazari been here yet? They might like it too. She’s pretty sure they can read, though probably not these fiddly little paper books.) “What’s an archivist?”

“I maintain the library.” The archivist Urag gro-Shub might be grumpy and not very nice but at least he didn’t do the thing where he sighed all annoyed at Efri’s question. “I choose when and to whom the books are lent, and I ensure they are not damaged. Hundreds of years have gone into assembling this collection, and it’s going to stay pristine.”

“Is that book hundreds of years old?” Efri asks, pointing to the showy tome with the writing in gold.

Urag barely glances at it, dark eyes flashing in the vague direction of her pointing finger and flashing back again. “No. That’s historical fiction written in 185. That copy was made within these last ten years.”

“You didn’t even look at it,” Efri says.

“Bejewelled Tragedy. Four hundred pages. Horrendously inaccurate. Frankly, it wasn’t worth acquiring in the first place. Feel free to look for yourself.”

Efri will take his word for it.

“This section is for the books that are up for purchase,” he tells her, gesturing. “The worthwhile ones – and the old ones, if those are what you’re looking for – are further in.”

Efri squints down the passages again, their bright lights and cosy winding walls. She can’t tell where this section ends and the next one starts. She feels like if she went any further into the library she’d get lost. She says, “Thanks. I’m Efri, by the way.”

“I know. You’re that kid who showed up.”

“One of,” Efri corrects.

Urag keeps talking, rolling right past like he didn’t hear her. “Don’t know why in the name of all that’s been called holy they let you in. You’d think this would be a step too far, even –” he huffs and snaps his jaw shut, tusks digging into his moustache. He says, “At any rate. You’re here now, and you’re subject to the same rules as everyone else. You treat these books as careful as if they were your own firstborn children, understand? And if there’s something you want to find – or especially take out of the Arcaeneum – you come talk to me.”

Efri nods obediently. What time would it be right now? The lecture Sissel went to was almost two hours, and it’s definitely only been about one. She asks, “Are there any books with pictures?”

She’s not sure if it’s just the shape of his mouth or if he’s sneering. Urag says, “That depends. Are you going to respect the books enough to try to read the words too?”

“That depends,” Efri retorts, nettled. (She gets that he’s protective of the collection, but there’s no need to be rude about it.) “Are your books going to teach me how to read?”

Urag stares.

“You can’t read,” he replies, sounding vaguely offended, as though she, at six years of age, had refused to attend the village school for the express purpose of spiting him four years later.

Efri pulls a book out of the shelf without looking at it, ignoring the way he huffs. There’s nothing embossed on the spine or the cover, but there’s a title scribbled on the first page. “That’s a B,” she says, pointing to the first letter of the first word, and then stops, squinting. Switches her focus to a different word. “That one says off.”

“Of,” Urag corrects over her shoulder.

Efri shrugs. She snaps the book shut and slips it back into its place on the shelf. “I can read a bit,” she says. “I know my letters and that. The books here are just big.”

And given that she’d failed to correctly identify of, even small stories might be a bit beyond her skill level.

Urag is quiet. Efri looks back at him, mostly expecting him to still be looking affronted, as though she’d stolen food out of his mouth and thrown it at a wall – instead he looks oddly, blankly thoughtful.

“We don’t have anything suitable for early readers,” he says, tapping his fingers against his leg. “That might be an oversight.”

Efri really doesn’t think it is. “It’s a big fancy library, right? I think it’s normal to just collect the big fancy books.” All the ones that are hundreds of years old, or about magic or important things, or both.

Urag’s knuckles rap against a buckle on his belt. He says, “No! First misconception. A worthwhile collection archives all the work on its focus possible. The Arcaeneum is a collection of knowledge in every form. Therefore, we have as many books as we can access, on all sorts of topics. Half of them aren’t even good!”

“You sell the bad ones,” Efri says, trying to follow.

“Some of them. If they’re wholly without merit. Mostly I sell duplicates. Or works no-one has ever used. There’s things to be learned from everything – if not now, later. I’ll think on it.”

He looks back at Efri, looking a bit like he might have forgot she was there. “Regardless. Do you need anything, or can I get back to work?”

He’s still all rude and prickly. Efri bristles a bit. “I wasn’t keeping you,” she says, flicking her eyes again over the strange and wandering walls.

Urag sighs again like he’s got any right to be annoyed with her, but then he asks, “Would you like a tour of the Arcaeneum?”

“Do you want to give it?”

“You’ve already distracted me,” he says. Adds less irritably, “And I enjoy a chance to show off the collection. Long as you don’t interrupt me.”

“I’m going to interrupt you,” Efri informs him. She doesn’t like to be told what to do.

She lets him show her the library.

today is yesterday was the international mother language day, so i thought i could make a post about the languages spoken in spain!

all of this data will come out of wikipedia, so i'm sorry if there's something wrong. i now realise i could've planned this way more, it's my bad honestly, i'm sorry.

anyways, let's start with the mother tongue map of spain; each color represents one language:

light green: spanish, galician: blue, catalan: orange, euskera: grey, aranese: red, asturleonese: green, aragonese: yellow.

the blue dots in extremadura are fala (then northernmost one), and most likely portuguese like the one spoken in olivença (thanks @satyrwaluigi).

by comparision, here's a map with the recognized co-oficial languages (spanish is the national language, and in various regions some languages have a co-oficial status)

the lighter colours refer to different categories depending of the language:

lighter blue refers to areas where galician is recognized as a minoritized language but isn't co-oficial

lighter green refers to areas where euskera is recognized as a minoritized language but isn't co-oficial

lighter red refers to areas where catalan is spoken but isn't co-oficial

lighter orange refers to areas where valencian is the official language but isn't spoken.

the reasoning behind the separating catalan and valencian into two distinct languages is a complex one, if you want more info @useless-catalanfacts made a great post about it (and here is even more info about the topic they very nicely provided me with). in a nutshell, valencian is not a distinct language from catalan and the reason why it's listed as such is political.

as you can see, there are some languages, mainly aragonese and asturleonese, that aren't recognized as co-oficial languages in their respective regions despite the large number of speakers. this makes them especially vulnerable to linguistic colonialism, and is why thousands of peoples from those areas are fighting in order to make their languages official in the state's eyes. if someone knows of organizations or groups that are involved in this movement, please let me know and i'll add them to the post.

apart from the aforementioned catalan blog, here in tumblr there's really great blogs about iberian minoritized languages; i personally recommend @beautiful-basque-country and @minglana for euskera and aragonese respectively, but i am sure there's more.

also, there are some languages that are not even mentioned in the maps despite its critical situation that i thought i should remark here:

fala, as stated before, is spoken in the borders between portugal and extremadura and it heavily borrows from portuguese. it has an estimated 11k native speakers.

caló is the language of the iberian roma people. it has an estimated 60k native speakers between spain and portugal.

darija, the arabic variant native to morocco, is also spoken in ceuta, a city of 80k inhabitants.

tarifit / riffian, a tamazight variant spoken in the rif area of northern africa, including the city of melilla, with 86k inhabitants.

finally, apart from the autochtonous languages, there are also several languages brought by the migrant population, who should also be counted in this post. here are all the languages spoken in spain; the first number is of native speakers, the second one of non-native speakers, and the third one is the total:

Rules: Find the main rainbow colours in your WIP!

I feel like I don't use colours as much as I should, unless I'm directly describing something like someone's hair or eyes of course. I know for a fact I won't have indigo, and I'm very hesitant on violet. But the others I know are there somewhere, so I'm going to try and see how many different stories I can pull from.

Red: "Looking around, the red pattern seemed to cover a large part of the floor, and even some of the lower parts of the walls." (Frequency: Shattered Gods)

Orange: "Even if he were to wash himself, get some nice clothes, and proper food and rest, he would still be unable to hide himself and not draw attention. Since his deep orange, almost red hair, and pale, porcelain like skin would make him almost unnoticeable." (Frequency: Hellfire) (Also I know red is also in there, but I didn't want to use the same one twice.)

Yellow: "Lukas dashed towards the alley’s entrance to reposition himself. He pulled his kusarigama back to him, now drenched in the familiar off-yellow shade of blood to his colour-blind eyes." (Frequency: Wounded Reflection)

Green: "Finally, he had dark-tinted glasses resting atop his dark brown hair, revealing his stunning green eyes, with one-quarter of his left eye a sharp grey, like the colour of steel." (Frequency: Kindred Spirits)

Blue: "The man's eyes flashed a menacing electric blue. Then sparks of lightning crackled between his fingers." (Frequency: Forsaken)

Indigo: Double checked all of WIPs, no sign of this elusive "indigo", must be some kind of alien colour.

I also don't have "violet" anywhere, but I do have "purple" so by the rules, I don't have one, but I'll throw this one in anyway for fun :)

Violet Purple: "The stranger grew closer and Dusk carefully watched him. His eyes were open but seemed to not be looking at anything in particular. They were also... purple? Is that even possible?" (Frequency: Forsaken)

At last, we come to the tags. It's kind of hard to tag this one, since I want to tag people who might not have been tagged but also probably have most of the colours on the list.

The 100% Official Transformers / Evangelion Crossover That Everyone Forgot About 

So, in 2014, Takara Tomy released a crossover called Transformers Mode “Eva”, which was a four part webcomic including the above four illustrations. 

Takara Tomy released a special edition Optimus Prime, MP-10 Convoy Mode "Eva", which featured a NERV trailer design and colour scheme. 

Convoy EVA: FUCK YEAH

I mean, look at him. Look at how much it rules. 

Oh my God, YES. 

I love the EVA-style Optimus Prime helm design here; The paint job does a lot to make this feel just right.

It’s subtle in terms of difference from his usual face paint, but the very plain, bold white-on-black eye paint detail does a hell of a lot to give Optimus the correct stylistic vibe.  

If you look real close, the eye shape is just sliiiiiightly different, almost negligibly so. The eyes are also very slightly wider across than usual, too. Not by much at all, but it matters! 

The stark black and white is classic, and does a lot to “flatten” the way he looks in conjunction with the rest of the repaint, without losing the physical sense of big blocky dimensions which we expect from an Optimus Prime figure-- Thus making it seem like he’s been cel animated, almost. 

Including this particular gun is also a great touch; It’s a more robot-retro design that we typically see with Transformers and has a more plausibly realistic army grey-green paint colour with that nice orange pop colour to match the glass tone, which really sells the Evangelion vibe of this Prime without removing it too far from what makes him recognisable as a Transformer! 

It’s extremely cool, and it’s a nice effect that has been accomplished with relatively little adjustment to the base figure model! 

I can see how some people might consider the colour scheme here to be a bit too close to the purples/greens used for Shattered Glass Optimus, but I do like the brighter pop colours of primary yellow and lime green, along with a slightly brighter purple which makes the orange tint glass/panels pop that much more. 

The vibe is pretty solid, all around. Personally, I like it! :) 

BUT ANYWAY. 

The Plot of the Crossover: 

Get ready for this shit. It’s awesome. 

(If you aren’t familiar with Evangelion, I’m linking to the relevant info so you can check it out if you want!)

So, Starscream is killed, but his ghost screws around and possesses an Angel. 

Holy shit. 

The Autobots find out that some nonsense is happening on Earth, so they show up, and find EVA-01. Optimus scans it, and adjusts his size to EVA scale, adopting the new paint job in the process. 

This (rightfully) FREAKS EVERYONE THE FUCK OUT. 

Optimus says he’s feeling okay, but admits that he actually does sense something different in EVA Mode-- As though he’s “carrying another lifeforce within his body”. HMMMMMMM. 

But before this can be investigated further, Angel-scream and Optimus EVA Mode engage in battle, which is picked up by NERV, who then intervene. 

Angel-scream doesn’t care and goes straight for Prime again, at which point Wheeljack gets in contact with Misato at NERV. 

It turns out they have no other EVAs available, so everything rides on Optimus kicking Angel-scream’s ass. 

Unfortunately, nobody is able to assist Optimus, as Angel-scream has a hell of an AT Field, and it’s acting as a defensive barrier. 

Misato, realising shit is fucked, directs the battle field (Tokyo-3)’s geometry to shift-- something that Optimus says reminds him of Metroplex. Holy fuck, YES. 

This allows for a few other bots, namely Bumblebee, to join the fight and start messing with Angel-scream, who has a hard time trying to target the smaller bots owing to his newly massive size. 

As Angel-scream stumbles on the changing terrain, EVA Mode Optimus takes the chance to use his red core energy to charge his Battle Axe and cleave it through Angel-scream’s AT Field until it reaches his core, dispersing him into red liquid. 

Yiiiiikes. 

After the battle field is cleared, Optimus reverts to his root mode, and NERV starts working on a new trailer for him which can serve as a mobile maintenance/operations centre for his EVA Mode. 

Realising that both more Decepticons and more Angels are likely to appear soon, NERV and the Autobots team up and create a joint force on Earth. 

Optimus reassures Misato that their goals are the same and that he and the other Autobots are happy to defend Earth against both threats.

However, Misato agrees, but looks at Optimus with anticipation... and fear. 

TL;DR: Transformers Evangelion Fucking Rules 

Important / interesting things to note: 

1) Technically this is region-specific canon, as it is an official crossover as part of the Japanese Transformers lore via Takara Tomy. This story takes place in a universe designated “Primax 514.23 Iota”. 

2) Optimus in EVA Mode “senses within himself another lifeform” UHHH THAT’S PRETTY SERIOUS LMAO ????? oh shit!!! 

But seriously, since EVAs are essentially techno-organic lifeforms, does this imply that when Optimus engages his EVA Mode, he becomes techno-organic in the same way? 

This is so fucking interesting to think about LMAO oh my goddd

3) Similarly, EVAs seem to put Cybertronians on edge in general for reasons none of them can exactly identify or articulate, and clearly if a bot is to take an EVA form as an alt-mode, some suspicious shit starts happening to them. 

4) Evidently it is possible for Cybertronian sparks to transfer life energy to an Angel in the event of serious damage or death -- “Possession” is possible across different species-- Since the exact nature of Angels is unknown!!!

5) The story doesn’t specify if EVA-01 was being operated by a pilot directly, or if it was being operated remotely in this story. Optimus scanned EVA-01 on scene in order to generate an EVA alt-mode, and then states he “felt another life inside of him”, but anyone familiar with Evangelion is probably aware that this could have several implications (most of which are potentially horrifying) so hey, that’s a thing!!!! 

6) Optimus in EVA Mode is apparently fucking terrifying to all of the other bots, as well as all of the humans. Understandable! Because HOLY FUCK. Especially since being in EVA Mode seems to have some kind of weird effect...!

This story fucking rules and somehow I never see anyone talk about it, possibly because I’m not sure how popular Evangelion is with TF fans in general and of course it was a Japan-only regional thing for the most part, but I figured I’d bring it to attention because it’s a great concept and super interesting to think about!

Deliberately waited until we'd had dinner so I could devote the appropriate amount of time to this (yelling about liveries my beloved!!)

Under a read more bc I'm about to get so chatty (please note: we are not including the rather hideous car noses we were cursed to endure in 2014, just the paint!)

Caterham

Fun fact about British Racing Green: there isn't an exact hue for it, which is why the green Caterham used is much more brighter and more yellow leaning than the emerald green Aston Martin currently use.

Anyway, this is so pretty. It's glossy, the green looks utterly stunning and the splashes of white are really sleek and give it a slightly more modern feel than if it was all over green.

Ferrari

Ferrari's just look better in glossy paint. Please end the deluge of matte liveries I beg.

The shade of red is literally perfect and I don't really mind the black section at the back, the thin white lines bordering it definitely help make it look less jarring.

Force India

Pre-BWT sponsorship, Force India liveries always leaned heavily into the colours of the Indian flag, though 2014 was the first year they incorporated a lot of black into the livery.

Which honestly? It slaps. The orange being on the sidepods still keeps the livery looking really bright despite all the black on the engine cover. I am torn on the block of white on the nose cone, but I think without it the car would feel a bit too dark, so for that it's fine.

Lotus

Oh, if this didn't have the splashes of red and used a proper metallic gold instead of the flat beige colour, it would be the best livery on the grid. Alas, it loses points for those two reasons. BUT the glossy finish is still stunning to thank goodness we have that.

Marussia

Much like the 2023 and 2024 Haas liveries, the red, white and black combination does look really good. Maybe not ground breaking, but it's far from being offensive on the eyes. I like the use of the warmer orangey red just to add a bit of brightness (and to make it look different from the Ferrari). It's a very solid effort.

McLaren

Every day I thank the racing gods that McLaren went back to their roots with the papaya orange livery bc their one for 2014 was very meh.

This year was McLaren's last year with Mercedes engines, hence why they kept the silver chrome, but their sponsorship deal with Vodafone had ended at the end of the 2013 season, which is why it doesn't look as iconic. The black sidepods are quite jarring and make the car look really dark and dull.

Definitely not their best, 4/10

Mercedes

As a friend said to me some time ago, Mercedes are all the better for making the switch to having mostly black on their car. The metallic finish Mercedes used on their cars from 2010-2019 and 2022 was really odd in that it didn't look properly metallic despite very obviously looking silver (contrary to my above spiel on McLaren, all over chrome silver with the Petronas teal accents would look so, so good.)

And speaking of the Petronas teal, there's not enough of it here even though I love how the shading on the sidepods was done (as much as I think the accents on the wheel rims are incredibly fun). The blob of black on the engine cover also feels like an after thought, especially with the gradient at the front and sharp line at the back.

Red Bull

Now this is the superior RBR livery. It's glossy, we have the really nice dark metallic blue instead of the navy créme, and the purple Infiniti accents are so very pretty (I'm not so sure on the stripes on the side however).

I deliberately chose a night race picture to show off the metallic sheen and glossy finish. I am on my knees begging RBR to go back to using this livery.

Sauber

This is... sadly very corporate. Like Mercedes, the metallic finish on the Sauber just looks off (though, it's better than if it were a flat grey) and I wish there was more white on this to brighten it up. The shade of grey used almost blends into the tarmac, which isn't great.

Toro Rosso

As much as I hold a special place in my heart for the Toro Rosso drinks can livery circa 2017-2019, I still have such vivid memories of the gorgeously detailed Red Bull on the engine cover. Even though the Toro Rosso liveries were just a darker version of the main RBR livery (navy, dark red and gold in place of the more primary blue, red and yellow) I actually prefer the STR version.

Unlike the Lotus livery, the gold is metallic instead of créme, and the navy is also a gorgeous metallic (which ensures that it doesn't look flat, which is my main beef with the post-2016 RBR livery).

I just want to make sure that everyone looks at the bull on the engine cover again, IT'S SO DETAILLED!!!

Williams

No notes. One of the F1 liveries of all time. I genuinely almost bought a Williams shirt that year bc the team kit looked stunning too with the Martini stripes (and honestly I have been debating whether or not I should try to find one on ebay). The Williams Martini livery is proof that it is possible to make a predominantly white car sexy as hell (and it's also glossy!!!)

If James Vowles ever manages to bring this livery back he can have my hand in marriage no questions asked.

I recently got some of the paw imprints of the two kittens my family recently adopted, one kitten is more grey-coloured and one has more black fur. I thought I could also show the paw imprint and a few other memorial items from my old cat, Chief. 

Even as an adult cat, he had such small, dainty paws, his paw print isn’t much bigger than how the kittens’ are paws now (TvT) I painted his paw print in grey at the time I took the imprint, even though he was an orange cat. I also attached a weaved bracelet that I had made previously, since I thought woud be a proper special use for it. 

Chief passed away on Christmas Eve last year, I had been working on some salt dough ornaments around that time, so I decided to dedicate them to him. They have coffee mixed in for colour, some cinnamon and cloves too, so they smell really nice. I used pine needles and pine cones to decorate them. I made a couple snowflakes, a tree, some plants, a couple houses and of course, a kitty =/ᐠ•x•ᐟ\=

I also made a miniature picture frame out of cardboard and twigs to hold a photo of him. I have quite a few other memorial trinkets, but in these photos, there’s also a bottle of his whiskers (plus one shed claw I managed to find), some pieces of yellow jasper (which remind me of his fur colour) and a brown stone which I once dropped on the floor in my room and he seemed especially interested in for some reason. 

Anyway, this is sort of a long post now, but I felt like explaining a bit of the story these special items was necessary. And with Samhain coming up soon, it’s a perfect time to remember and honour passed loved ones.

you initially found buying extra colour ways of joycons very stupid because you too could not justify spending 80 quid or more on joycons that would eventually go faulty anyways. However the minute these dropped you threw all your morals out of the window, and for this one I fully respect it because honestly I am so fucking jealous. If i had the money I would.

Vice Versa ep 8

Sorry folks, it’s a long one today...but mainly because I wanted to include so many screenshots.

I was happy to see that the ep’s colour this week was Cloudy Grey, since I’d been saying for a couple of weeks that I felt like a black-charcoal-grey scale was due...(so I was almost right) and I just love the way thai nicknames can be anything and everything, giving Talay a potential love interest called ‘Cloud’ - Mek in Thai.

As usual, in this ep blue/red, black/white, and yellow/green were all used in various ways...and following a stretch without much red/pink whilst Talay had been pushing Puen away in ep 7, ep 8 starts straight off with Talay in red trousers now that him and Puen have reunited. Note his grey sweater also has a blue and red trim. It was nice to see Tess’ brother again...even if he looks more like he could be Talay’s brother than Tess’...

I loved the little details in the board room scene - Tess’ father has a blue suit with some orange on his tie (the colour of last week’s ep) and when the other board members leave, they take various things but not the red notebook or the file with the yellow stripe along the edge, leaving us with the main three pairings. Of course brown also featured, with Puen’s trousers, due to the serious nature of the conversation.

Brown is also present in the following scene when the Friend Credits group are talking about how to finance the film. This scene also has all three pairings (the blue being on Up’s top), which is very common with the Friend Credits group, and I love this shot in particular because it shows clearly how it’s Up’s thing to wear colourful socks...and of course they would be yellow on a green wall.

In Tun’s room, all three pairings are present again in various amounts, and Talay has what looks like a brown striped top, reflecting the seriousness of when Puen directs him to think about the person he likes. And Up brings in the playfulness with his orange hat (and fantastic rainbow socks!)

The locations in general during the series have been great...and not just because they’re not the usual ones we’ve seen a million times. But this café below...was it not used in Y-Destiny with the actors Perth (the other one), Talay, and Yoon? I haven’t seen it myself but I’ve seen clips and it looks like the same place. I wonder if they did this on purpose as a little easter egg with the names... Anyway, I love the red and blue details, and I was absolutely delighted to see Perth appear. I also love Talay’s sweater and I’ll come back to it later...

I thought this shot was particularly great - subtle but fantastic... A white car with black (and blue trim). The yellow lines on the floor and the green of a building and of some trees behind, and the pastel red of a roof above against the baby blue sky. It’s honestly incredible how they have framed some of these shots to include all these colours.

Of course, there is plenty of grey this ep too...as well as a few purple and green complementary pairings, like the below (which also has Mek’s blue jeans against the red-y brown sofa)...

And I doubly adore Fuse’s “Just Quit” t-shirt here because not only does it add commentary on the scene - both to Talay and Fuse himself - but the green print complements Talay’s purple top - maybe this is more indication that Aou and Fuse will get together (which is who they end up talking about).

I’ve written another post specifically about Fuse’s shirts, but when I first saw his “Ordinary” t-shirt in ep 2, I thought it was black. I like that it’s actually green...and here it’s paired with the yellow of Aou’s top...with Aou’s blue vest having a small red insignia on the left side (hidden by the laptop screen). It’s interesting that the sofa looks more brown than red, perhaps showing how Fuse is trying to be serious with Aou...

And so we get towards the end and for the first time Talay and Puen are dressed alike, more than likely indicating the inevitability of them getting together. (And because the show can’t go for long without having the ‘base colours’ of course Tong’s bike is red against the blue wall behind, wearing a brown uniform with yellow sunflowers and stood next to a green gate. Tick tick tick.)

Puen and Talay even comment on their similarities themselves.

And since it was foreshadowed, I guess the show needed to include a little uncertainty with two potential love interests for Talay...and in order to show this Mek and Puen are dressed in opposites at the ‘Greyllery’. Both have a white t-shirt but Mek has white shoes, blue jeans, and a black jacket...and Puen has...wait for it...vice versa...black shoes, black trousers, and a blue denim shirt.

Having already pointed out the above in a separate post, I then re-watched the show to gather screenshots for this one. In the process, it hit me that during the matching outfits scene, Pang is dressed in the opposite to them...but the same that Puen is dressed later at the gallery. Again another little subtle hint showing that the potential love interest for Puen wasn’t actually a threat to Puen and Talay’s relationship anyway.

And finally, we got the long awaited confession and kiss...and if it couldn’t be in an archway I guess in front of a painting which has black, white, blue, and pink will do...and with Talay bringing the brown for the seriousness of the moment. Despite the absence of red or pink for a while, I love that it’s been included here and in the form of a painting in which the colours look like they’re blending together.

And so for next week. It’s difficult to make a prediction this time...I feel like we’re due for a proper red episode (but I’m wondering if they’ll leave that to one of the last ones) and with Puen’s birthday in ep 9 and Talay trying to find out more about Puen maybe the ep colour will be a red palette...but a tealy/minty green has appeared this ep (Talay’s sweater in the plane cafe...and maybe the wall can be included in this) and also in the preview of the next ep, so it might also be something like that. Who knows!

first impressions of the PJSK character designs (i know nothing about their personalities or anything yet)

Ichika Hoshino: it's alright, just not the most interesting? her eye colour is nice

Saki Tenma: i love her hairstyle and hair colour!! and the bright pink eyes! not the biggest fan of the yellow cardigan though

Honami Mochizuki: so pretty!! her light brown hair goes super well with her blue yes, and both contrast beautifully with her dark red outfit! the black bows on the sleeves are a nice touch too! lovely hair tie too

Shiho Hinomori: though her hair is grey, her design doesn't look dull, cause her eyes and outfit are that bright, light green, i think it's pretty! her hairstyle is simple, but i really like it

Minori: she looks very nice! i don't like orange, but it works on her, especially with the green. her eyes stand out a lot too, since they're a cool-ish grey and all the other colours are warm

Haruka Kiritani: her hair and eye colour, that like ink blue, is one of my favourite colours!! and my hairstyle's kinda like hers rn. i like the black and white stripy bow in her hair, and the colours of her oufit

Airi Momoi: i love her bows!! i wish the pink on them stood out a little more from her hair more though

Shizuku Hinomori: i love her design so much, it's so pretty. the colours all go so well together. i love the mint green rose especially. her hair colour is really nice

Kohane Azusawa: she's okay, the pigtails are cute. i just don't really like the outfit that much? idk why though

An Shiraishi: my favourite design, i already love her so much. everything is perfect. the cute hairclips? her amber eyes which look GREAT with her dark hair? the blue ombre at the bottom of her hair? her asymmetrical hoodie with the beautiful teal colour? everything is amazing!

Akito Shinonome: he's kinda ehhhhh. like i said, i don't like orange, so i'm not the biggest fan of his colour palette. his design doesn't really stand out to me

Toya Aoyagi: love his hair!! i really like those colours, especially the periwinkle blue. the rest of his design is just okay

Tsukasa Tenma: he has that hair colour that Saki Tenma also has which i like! oh wait, they're both Tenma? are they siblings? anyway, i also love the ruffled collar! fancy!

Emu Otori: she loves sweets probably? respect that! her outfit's cute... but the sleeves... they don't match with anything else... at all

Nene Kusanagi: i like her outfit and butterfly hairband!! she gives me cottagecore vibes sorta? it's nice

Rui Kamishiro: THIS IS THE GUY THAT'S EVERYWHERE um i really really like his hair, those are two very pretty colours and they work together! the purple also compliments his yellow eyes. his outfit would probably look horrendous irl but it works on him!

Kanade: her eyes are a very pretty blue, and her hair's a nice colour too! her hair looks kinda flat though. i like that her hoodie drawstrings are different colours

Mafuyu Asahina: i love her hair and eye colours!! and how wavy her hair is

Ena Shinonome: i. have literally nothing to say. she... exists ig? her design's boring i'm sorry

Mizuki Akiyama: i love how pastel their hair is!! and their eyes too, they're so pretty. look so so nice with their dark red hair ribbon
